Ur absoultely right Kelly ..it is not just a black person's music..that's why I said "their". those maybe because that genre of music was all black people had that the white man couldn't take away although they try. i as a black woman hate rap music, some just too degrading of women ALL women black,white,latina,asian..whatever For what ever reason we are in 2007 and it's time these INJUSTICES to stop. I was just trying to think of why ones who stare or make comments feel they have to stare and give dirty looks..and it's on both side black people stare and white people stare.

I have never dated outside my race. When I was in JA mi did have a likkle boyfriend, when I came here white guys were attracted to me, I just thought some were cute. Why I reached the point in my life where I was ready to settle down another man from another race wasn't in the right place at the right time, that's all. I still find myself looking at how cute some these white men are..by the way I love Asian men smile.gif smile.gif don't tell my husband.

No I didn't get a chance b/c I had to work last night. I do have it on my DVR to I will watch it later this week along w/ Prison Break.

I'll be watching it online later this week or on SciFi network (I think they replay it on Friday and the following Monday afternoon). If I didn't feel compelled to get caught up on VJ, I would be watching it right now laughing.gif laughing.gif

Rhonda,

You seem to be pretty cool in my short period of time here. I do not wish to sound like I am jumping on your case for your opinion, but I feel in this case, we will have to continue to beat a dead horse because I'm coming in late.

With that said, you no longer have the luxury to say you are tired of everyone making things a race issue, or to bury your head in the sand like the racial struggle is of a bygone era buried with our forefathers. You are happily married to a BLACK man, albeit of Jamaican heritage. His skin color AND his nationality will often make him GUILTY before any crime is committed. When you get tired of hearing the racial play on certain situations, try placing your husband in that same situation. This should give you idea of the outrage we feel when these acts of hatred slap us in our BLACK faces. This could have easily happened to your husband just because of the color of skin, before he had a chance to utter a word.

I know that you wish for racial equality and for everyone to just get along (I am assuming because you are in an interracial marriage). However, you have to make yourself aware of the ONGOING struggle your husband will deal with when he leaves the comfort of your home.

I do not think any of the children involved should go without punishment for their deeds and actions. However, the punishment by all means should fit the crime...not the skin. In most states, the mere fact that the White young man pulled a gun, would merit that he be charged with the crime of attempted murder, aggravated assault or the appropriate punishment based on the fact that he initiated a crime and threatened another human being's life...whether he or his friends got hurt as result or not. The Black young men acted in self defense for all intensive purposes.

Moreover, the nooses hanging from a tree were not a childish prank, it was a hate crime through and through. I cannot believe that this fact is not obvious to some. I guess it would not truly be a hate crime unless there was a Black neck in the noose and a body hanging from it...often charred beyond recognition. Again, this was an obvious and omnious threat against another human being's life.

We cannot give it a rest and pretend it doesn't exsist because the struggle and journey is not over simply because our freedom marchers are not marching everyday on Selma or boycotting. We are hit every year with some type of hate crime news...such as the Black man being dragged to his death in Texas..simply for being a BLACK man at the wrong place and time. Or the young BLACK man that was hung from a tree outside his home...that was conveniently explained away as a suicide...although the mystery of how he got himself in the noose on the tree by himself was never explained.

Rhonda, sweetie, your struggle with race relations is FAAAARRR from over...it is actually just beginning. I hope that you love your BLACK Jamaican man for eternity...until death you do part...but growing weary of his JOURNEY is not a option in the equation.

Jawi, very nicely put. Me being the worry-wart that I am, I am already concerned about the racism that my hubby MAY face (which has a very high probability). Though as black women, we face discrimination, I think our black men have a great probability of facing it than women do. sad.gif

You have to look at things like these from an historical perspective. We have to protect black boys from unjust prosecution, you don't want a better demonstration of the unfairness of the system when it comes to black boys than the SERIES OF EVENTS in Jenna. I wish I was there to show my displeasure.

If justice is not done, it must at least appear to be done, I don't support voilence but whoever shout racial slurs at another is on his own.

The school could have stopped all this long ago. What about the undercover segregation that was going on at the school.

It's not a small matter down there in Jena, we are just trying to protect our kids from prosecuters who threaten to end thier lives with the stroke of a pen.

Do pre-existing medical conditions follow from Jamaica to the US? A's daughter is currently hospitalized and may have a heart condition. We want to bring her here...but I'm afraid that she will not be able to be covered under my medical coverage if they find out she already had the heart condition. Do you have any idea on whether the medical exam in Kingston for the visa will include this info?

Don't know if this will help, but I heard the CO ask the children if they were sick. Don't know if this is noted anywhere and could cause a problem. I'll be praying Jawi heart.gif

Hey Ladies,
I have been away for forever it seems. So much good news!! woo hoo!!
I have some news of my own.
Well, I just got married in June this past summer and I stayed in Jamaica all of June and all of July (I am a teacher..summers off). I have been twice since then. We have attempted to file VISA papers several times (long story) and ultimately we have prayed about it and decided at the end of this school year I AM MOVING TO JAMAICA! Its a big decision but one that will be awesome for us I think. Now..what about jobs?
egh..
We are going to open a restuarant but maybe I should still take a job to begin with? I am torn b/c that means I am taking a job from a Jamaican, but that also means I will be spending that same money in Jamaica..so doesnt that balance out? (trying to make myself feel less guilty...haha)
ANY ADVICE?!?!?!?!
THANKS!!!!

Good luck shrewdgal. I'll be praying for your success. good.gif

My sister scared me and told me that medical records follow you no matter what, and that she would not be able to be covered under my insurance because it would be a pre-existing condition.

Also, her mother doesn't want to let her or her older sis come...I told him to try and presuade her with 6 months here and 6 months there. HELP ME!!!!! \o/ /o\ /o\

Don't worry, don't fret. I am not totally sure all the types of visas that were interviewed on Friday. There were 2 ladies whose husbands were not with them. They were asked to bring more proof of their relationships and the CO's strongly encouraged that their SO's accompany them to the next interview. The CO asked one of them if she had children (NO), does her husband have any children (Not that he ever told me). Ask your huband who is (name).
Gill, I wouldn't be concerned. WE get such really good info on here that I know you will be prepared when your time comes. yes.gif yes.gif

I went to visit my husband last week and got his police certificate. There is a line under his name for his signature but it's not signed. Should this be signed before sending to NVC?

I believe it should be signed. Hubby signed his before we sent it to NVC.

Hey Marlita,

They typically have it in West Indian Grocery markets. I'm not to sure what the Jamaican community is like in Cali. But wherever you find a large amount of J'cans or West Indians...you will probably find a grocery market and Ackee within it!

Or you can order it online at:
You may want to try: http://www.wifglobal.com/Ackee.htm ($11 per can) or http://www.jamaicastores.com/cart.php?
act=cart (10.00 per can).

Good Luck,

Gill

Back in the day, you could only find Ackee in the Jamaican stores under the shelf or there were people who had ackee trees in their back yard here in South Florida. Now that the FDA gave the okay, it is sold in the major supermarkets in South Florida (Publix and Winn Dixie). Of course the price is between $12 - 15 depending on the brand you're buying.

Thanks for the advice and support ladies! This is such a difficult predicament I am in. I went to sleep with it on my mind, I woke with it on my mind, and I just dont know what our best option is. I prayed about it asking God to show give me the understanding for this situation so that I may know what it is He wants us to do.

The DCF thing would be great if I could jut stay in the States and file it, with an intent to move to JA. I just feel lost about all the plans that we made now. We wanted to file CR1 and have him come here first and within 2 years or so move back to Jamaica with a better financial plan. We're not really rushed for him to get here cause he has a good job in Jamaica that will benefit him greatly if he stays on it and transfers here in a year. My concern is that I dont know if I want to continue in my career field anymore, with all these changes in my job, my resume is beginning to look choppy and I dont look dependable.

I think of just renting my house and moving to JA, doing what I do here out there....I'm in architecture and design. I could look into contracting with one of the developers for the hotel and condo industry in Jamaica, but I dont know. Augh!!!

It makes me so sad to know that i could've just stayed in JA a bit longer this last trip, and been able to figure stuff out there with Evan beside me. Now I am stuck in a budget crisis and not knowing when I can afford to go back, or file my paperwork. His pay can support him, there but adding me to it, will be a daily struggle, adding the cost of visa fees, police cert, medical reports, etc in the US dollar will definitely be above his budget so even though Evan is great at supporting me when I am there, he cannot support our visa endeavor.

Nannygirl and AlienUKgirl, you are both right....I need to sit back and access the pros and cons of the situation. I think I have been thinking conventionally of our situation when it is all but conventional. I thought I would just have my great job working for a company and file my visa and sit and wait for his arrival. But maybe I need to give myself a kick start and do what really makes me happy....which isnt working for someone else. Evan I am are both focused on living a life pleasing to God and flexible and happy. Jamaica has our heart and would be our ideal place to live and there are so many people who live there in great conditions, even better than I live in California, you just have to be smart about how you do it. So I guess its back to the drawing board for us in figuring out what to do next. star_smile.gif

Hey Marlita, sorry to hear all that you are going through, but as Romans 8:28 says "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." I will be praying for you and with you during this time that He will make the way clear for you.

My case was completed at NVC 10/11/07!!!!! kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif Any ideas on how long it takes for them to schedule the interview at this point? unsure.gif ClockWatch2.gif

not really sure on anytime frame...but it goes from nvc to kingston then they enter it into the system that sometimes can take a liikle bit....then he has to make a appt. and drop of the ds230 then after that is when they schedule a interview

congratz another step closer

Well with the new process, the NVC wants all the paperwork up front. I had to send both DS230 part 1 & 2 to them along with all original documents and police certificate. They set the interview and forward the information to the embassy.

For the CR-1 folks, the NVC is still scheduling November interviews. On Tuesday, October 16th, call 202-663-1225 to see if you have been scheduled an interview. If one has not been arranged, try to call back on Thursday, October 18th. Since your case was just completed on Thursday, you may be looking at a December interview. Keep your fingers crossed. I along with the other VJ members will do the same.

FYI - If you call the Department of State, they will not have it in their system until it is entered at the Embassy; that could be a few weeks, when the paperwork is finally in Jamaica. The most that the Department of State will be able to tell you is that the paperwork was sent electronically to the Embassy in Kingston. NVC will give you your date, but I realized that it takes a little time for it to catch up in other systems.

Congratulations CaribQueen. You are on your way. It seems like you are going the CR1/IR1 route - you should be getting an interview date for December (keeping fingers crossed). They are currently scheduling November interviews, so by mid- November start calling the NVC to see if they have scheduled your interview. You're on your way good.gif
