Thanks so much. Jittery bout the interview and not to mention the latest topic on here, the adjustment factor. I am sure we'll have some rough spots, but we are a praying couple, so I am going to lean on God with that. But I can't help having constant thoughts about that. It's going to be somewhat of an adjustment of him not working for a little time, since he has had a job ever since leaving high school and he is leaving a company he has been with for almost 14 years.

Kimmy - I don't know what you're going to do with you MIL. Sometimes parents can act like such children! I have to draw up my own mother sometimes mad.gif

Hello everyone! I'm a new poster to the VJ board. I have been lurking for a few weeks, mostly reading this thread. wacko.gif Before, I jump in with both feet, I figured I would give you a little info on me blush.gif

I live in Atlanta, and I am in the process of a divorce (long awaited)....but a story for a different time. I went through the K1 journey back in 2001. During my timeline, USCIS was simply INS. Atlanta had to deal with the horrific waiting times for the Texas Service Center (sometimes two months before check cashed...even longer for a NOA). The group of us going through this process were not able to use a bullentin board like VJ...but we used newsgroups to keep each other abreast of the Service Center "real" processing times. Those processing times on the different sites, were laughable.

I went the ordeal of having people approved before me that submitted apps waaaaaaaaaay after me. My co-workers and I would literally sit on hold with the TSC for hours trying to get a rep...just to be hung up on. I finally contacted two of my local congressmen, to be told that they lost my entire file. Thankfully, I was one of the pioneers of the visa file with tabs, ziploc baggies, etc. LOL so I was able to duplicate the entire file in a matter of an hour using a fax number.

Well...I never thought I would subject myself to the torture again...but here I sit. Confused tuh rass. wacko.gif helpsmilie.gif I don't know what all the acronyms mean...I confused about which forms should be mailed to start the K1 petition...which ones should be sent later. Who in the heck is the NVC? When and why did the I-129f go from $95 to $400+????? Whaa de efff???

BTW...I am very very very good friends with Jonesie. I tried to give her hints on the process when she started...but all my tricks and hints were woefully outdated...LOL *I know that I can start from the beginning and read all the helpful linked posts on this process, but I wanted to get to know all of you before you disappear from the site* biggrin.gif

Welcome and I am sure you will find some great help on VJ - lots of experience. Finding this site has helped me through the anxiety of this process as we enter the finishing stretch good.gif

Thank you, this is very helpful information. I downloaded the SS-5 application from the SS web site. Page 2, number 3 states, "If you check "Legal Alien Not Allowed to Work," you must provide a document from the U.S. Federal, State or local government agency that explains why you need a Social Security number adn that you meet all of the requirements for the U.S. government benefit. NOTE: Not all U.S. State or local are acceptable for non-work SSN purposes." Donna is here on a K-1 visa. After reading this I wonder why does she need a SS number at this time. She will not be able to work for a while and after we marry, her name will have changed. So, is it really necessary or important that she have a SS number at this time?

You may want to research this Jay, but I think she needs the SSN so that you can apply for the marriage license. I know that it is needed in Florida.

Any time I send an e-mail, I keep receiving the same lame response that a date has not been sent. What is the delay? I want to send another e-mail, but I am not going to right now because I am angry.

I am so sorry that you are experiencing this. The only thing I can suggest is contacting your congressman. That's the only thing that seemed to work for Empress when her case was sitting at the embassy for over 6 months.

Hi Tricia

I am sure what your SO is going through is not an easy process. I have lived in the US on and off for 12 years (been back permanently for 5) and there are many times that I wished I could just go back home. It's not an easy transition, but I hope that he sticks it out. It's only been a few months and I know that it is probably the hardest because he may not yet be working and as you stated there is not a strong JA contingent in your area. Last week, I began thinking a lot about how my SO would adjust to life here and I began worrying about how our relationship may be affected. I talked it over with him and my sister and by the grace of God, I found this post on VJ http://www.visajourn...showtopic=83280. I totally appreciated what she had to say, and how they have learned to cope with the changes.
I know that my SO's transition may be a little easier as there is a strong Jamaican presence in South Florida; with the restaurants, many events, such as the Jerk Festival (which is the weekend of our interview) and such. I will be praying for you both smile.gif .

Tamieka

Check this out:---

I know a guy who went for his AOS interview and they aked him what type of protection he uses when he has intercourse with his wife and he told them that they did not use anything. He was thinking of him using a condom. She was previously interviewed separately and told them that she uses an IUD. Take it that this guy did not even know that she uses this thing or what an IUD was. This was a genuine marriage and they were denied. A lawyer told him that they are not supposed to ask such personal questions, but they (USCIS) can do whatever they want. If a lawyer was present he would not have had to answer that question. He has hired a lawyer to file an appeal and work on his case. mad.gif mad.gif

Naah I'm flying US Airways out of Philly. I have never used Air JA. I don't know why but I just haven't.

I've never used them either - they don't even fly out of Detroit. I usually fly Northwest which is my favorite. I've also flown U.S. Air and American to Jamaica. Although after my flight home the other day, I will NEVER fly American again mad.gif

US Airways flies from Detroit to Mobay....not to Kingston. Can't remember which airport you guys fly into. Out of Baltimore I use whoever is the least expensive and that flips between Air Jamaica and US Airways, 9x out of 10, it's US Airways. I flew US Airways and built up frequent flyer miles so much that we (me & my son) got 2 free tickets (well, you pay for the taxes), but frequent flyer miles are nearly impossible to use....

Northwest....ugh, working with them and their group department for the past year ....SUCKED bigtime!!! I wish I did not have to use them, but the soccer team I arrange the travel for had no choice to fly with them because they had flights that fit their travel schedule.

I have clients that will never fly American and a couple that will *only* fly American. One bad experience traveling shouldn't make your choice not to fly them again. I had an absolutely horrible experience flying on US Airways....lost my sons luggage for over 24 hours while in Jamaica, but ....if the price is right yes.gif

That's why I keep flying with Air Ja. The customer service sucks, but the price fits my budget.

offtopic45vn.gif No matter how many times I get this joke, I still love it. Lawd, it true!:

A man dies and goes to hell. He discovers that there are different Hells for each country.

First he goes to the German Hell and asks what they do there. "First, they put you in an electric chair for an hour. Then they lay you on a bed of nails for an hour. Then the German Devil comes in and whips you for the rest of the day." He doesn't like this so he moves on.

He goes to the U.S. Hell, the Canadian Hell, and the U.K. Hell, and discovers that they are all the same.

Finally, he comes across a very long line of people waiting to get in and asks,
"Which Hell is this?" Someone tells him, "Oh,This is the Jamaican Hell"
"What do they do in here?" He asks.
"Well, first they put you in an electric chair for an hour, then they lay you on a bed of nails for an hour, then the Jamaican Devil comes in and whips you for the rest of the day!"

"But that is just like all the other Hells". The man said, " Why is the line so long?"

"Cause inna de Jamaican Hell, the electricity always lock off, the electric chair always naah work, sumbady tief di nail dem, and di Jamaican Devil a public servant, so he cum in an' punch him time card den go a Rum Bar fi play domino fi di rest a di day!"

Right! Javon is telling me to drop it but I'm still upset. How are you going to charge me for something that is out of my control??? I went off on him this morning b/c of his "dunca" attitude but I quickly cld and him back to apologize. I know he means no harm but it's the freaking principal man!!! I also didn't want to stress him too much b/c today is his birthday.

Since it's his birthday, cut him some slack, but don't let Air J get away with that. I have told them in the past, that they don't know how to treat those who fly on the airline due to national pride; the ones who keep them afloat. They need to give better customer service. Even their attitude at the ticket counter is much to be desired most times. The last time I flew home, on my return flight, it was delayed by almost 3 hours. I asked the young lady at the counter why they didn't contact passengers and she had a complete don't care attitude! mad.gif

Hi Ladies, I'm soooo upset right now. mad.gif My daughter was suppose to come yesterday but the stupid ppl at KIN airport closed the flight so now she's coming home on Tuesday. Ordinally this wouldn't be a problem but now there charging me $75 for the change in flight. I cld Air JA reservation line and the lady told me there shouldn't be any other fees but of course it's out of jurisdiction. So I asked isn't this Air JA and she said yes but they don't cover the airports. So I asked her who does, the US blink.gif Her dumb a** couldn't say nothing but pause. She evenutally gave me the # to the Airport and gave me 3 ext's for the supervisor but of course they were all invalid. I finally got thru the the rattid man asked me what I he to do....I swear I wanted to ugh.....so I asked for the supervisor and then was transferred back to a v/m. I "0" out and someone picked up but didn't say anything. You could hear the freaking ppl in the back ground!!!!!!!!!!! I cld back to back and all morning BUT still no answer. Me and Javon even got into b/c he don't seem to understand why I'm so mad. First off she' coming back late as h*ll on Tuesday and w/Air JA reputation most likely they won't get here until midnight AND she starts school on Wed. Not only that another $75 for sh*t. Man, don't get me started!!!!!!!!!

I am so sorry that you are going through this Anna. Air JA has a tendency to close the flight and not say a word to you. They did that to me when I was getting married. Had the first flight out 2 days before my wedding. They closed the flight and didn't say a thing to anybody; I was at the airport til the next day. Someone gave up their seat for me on the last flight out the night after and my luggage didn't come for 2 days. My maid of honor never made it until after I was married. I was so mad and swore never to fly them again...
There is no customer service, so my dear, it may be futile. It seems pretty crazy that a supervisor at the call center is unable to override the charges. They should have the same authority as the supervisors at Norman Manley.
