you know I read some place that if you filled in the area on the DS 230 where they asked u would like them to generate a social security card u don't have to go to the social security office. Has anyone heard of this ? or am I just totally making this up :)

thanks guys

I've heard of it and I know a few people have posted this question on VJ. From what I have seen, there are those who do receive the SSN in the mail without going to the Social Security office, but there have been a greater amount that have had to go and apply because they didn't get it.
Hopefully some of our more seasoned Yardies can let you know more.

I have been. Florida is always on alert for hurricanes; I guess there's a possibility we'll be in the cone early next week. It was on my mind to ask if anyone had interviews scheduled next week.
Maybe God is trying to calm things before elections

Marlita, Have a safe trip and don't worry about the hurricane. Jamaica has a way of being in the path and at the last minute it turns. I have seen it happen many times before Ivan finally hit. Enjoy your honeymoon.

No not at all..he has nothing against her...he's just upset that she acting like this for no reason..and talking to him like he's a child..he's in shock of her behavior..he's very protective of me and she direspected me and his family so he's upset..he'll get over it and call but he gotta do that on his time

At this point, all you can do is stand back and let him deal with it. Is fi him mother after all and he needs to put her in her place before she start saying more things bout yu.

Yes, we are through also. Marlon is a nice guy. I'm glad Donna and I were able to meet him. We were interviewed at the same time and ended up at Air-Pak at the same time. The whole process once inside the Embassy took less than an hour! We were out of the embassy about 8:50am. We arrived and stood in line at 6:30. We were doing good until they found Donna's cell phone. She had to go back outside and rejoin the line while I went down to the interview area to wait. It wasn't long and we were back together and finished. There were only a few questions that Donna and myself were asked at Window 3. They asked us for our own personal information. Donna was asked for her phone number and I was asked for mine.

We have just had a portrait made and using the computer at an internet cafe here in Kingston. Thank you everyone for your help these past months and for everyone's prayers this past few days. VJ helps but it is God who saw us through so easily.

Congratulations Jay

OMG! :crying: I am soooo relieved!
Marlon said that he got the "serious" lady and he wasn't asked any questions, she told him to verbalize the WHOLE story! But he did it! I am soooo proud of him! Next step visa and get him here! They didn't even ask him for the non-impediment form!

Thanks everyone for your support and well wishes! I hope Kim and Jay will tell us they have been approved as well!

Unfortunately (or should I say fortunately) I can't relate to the snow, being in sunny South Florida. He will just have to get use to the days when it is 40 degrees in the winter (which are few and far between). Since Florida is getting so expensive, both of us will have to get use to the cold weather elsewhere when we move out of state. ;)

That is what I am saying. Everywhere you look says 12 months for another country. That is what USCIS says as well as other gov sites but when we got to the actual interview part they informed Andre what they want a police certificate for anywhere over 6 months. Do you send the police report to NVC when you are doing a CR1 visa or do you take it to your interview at the embassy?

Kingston has and always will be backwards and difficult

My dear, Kingston is a trip. Since the recent changes, they want you to send the original police certificate, marriage and birth certificates to NVC for the CR1. They send the package to Kingston when the interview date is scheduled. We have copies for the embassy just in case anything is lost.

yEAH It is 3 days for expedite and cost about $2000 JA...and we REAllY got it in 3 days :)

So did we. At least on that front, you got it on the promised date...Can't say that for the other agencies sometimes.

One question about the police record does he need anything from the embassy at all to state why he wants the police record? Or does he just pop up there and ask for one.

I don't know how far back you have to go with the police records, but if he was living in another country.....I believe that he'll need one from each. Anyone else that had to do that.....help her out with this question?

You're right, if he lived in another country for more than 12 months or was arrested regardless of how long he lived there, he will need to get a police certificate from those countries as well.

He was in England and Scotland we sent off that when i was last in jamaica on the 20th i do believe those take 40 days. Anyone know exactly how much the jamaican police reports are i hear it takes 20 days for normal and 3 for expedited???

Yeah, 21 days for regular and 3 days for expedited. The fee for expedited is J$2000.
JA TamFemaleJamaica2007-08-13 11:40:00
Mexico, Latin & South AmericaYardies, at home and a farrin' (Part 4)

Be careful with this one...Some places say 6 months others say 12 months. I thought it was 12 months as well but Andre was in the Bahamas for 10 months and even our lawyer told us we would NOT need a police certificate. Lo and behold we got a 221g and our visa was delayed for 2 months because the embassy said they need one for any place of residence for more than 6 months. Don't know if we got someone in a bad mood or if that is policy. If it says it right on a JA embassy document then I would believe it otherwise I wouldn't risk it and would get the report for any country you lived in for more than 6 months.

I got that information on the NVC site (http://travel.state....195.html#police). Found it in the section that states what you should expect with the NVC processing. Maybe it's different if you're going straight to embassy.

Jay have a safe flight and good luck on the interview, if you see Marlon say hello!!!!!

Kimmy I am so glad he made it safe!!!!!

Thanks to everyone for the prayers, we need them!!!!

I spoke to JG last night and she said the same thing Rhonda did, to have Marlon go to the interview even if he doesn't have the form!

ARGGGGHHHHHH! Are ALL Jamaican men so dang stubborn?!?! :help:
So I told Marlon this and he's like well I want to follow the rules and the paperwork blah blah blah.... I so wanna strangle him! He did speak to a supervisor at the RGO's office and the guy was like man it shouldn't take that long! He gave Marlon a phone number and extension to call him directly tomorrow so we'll see. I explained to Marlon that he should go to the interview because it will be faster and better for him to be issued a 221G rather than waiting around for another interview! I was almost yelling at him to get through his stubbornness! I told him point blank that I want and NEED him here and I refuse to wait another couple of months. I then asked him if he would just go for us. He said he would. *sigh* Here's hoping for the NIM form tomorrow!

Yeah, they all are STUBBORN! I have gotten to the point that I just pray and ask God for Aaron to see the light and what I am trying to say to him; it then becomes his idea and it makes it easier. Good luck to you both. I have had my share of issues with the RGD. Took us almost 4 months to get our marriage certificate from them.

Hey everyone!! It certainly has been a while since I have been up here so it seems like I have ALOT of catching up 2 do...Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know that my time in Jamaica was WONDERFUL (except for the heat rash that I managed to get during my stay down there! ) As most of you know I was down there for a little over a month...I just want to tell you that my fiance and I really needed that time...it really reinforced our belief that this marriage and relationship was truly what we both wanted...and that we would work hard despite the obstacles that have been beset before us, to encourage one another through the next couple of years until we r able to file again...I'm happy to report that we only had 1 major fight that occured right at the end of my stay which resulted in me locking him out of his house for 10 minutes, and then him pouting on the floor (he refused to get in the bed right off) for about 20 minutes later! :innocent: We got the tuxedos picked out for the wedding and pretty much have everything else in order...When I got back I literally moved the next day from Maryland back down to NC...I originally thought I had a job lined up, but when I got here and tried contacting the director that I spoke to, I couldn't get in contact with him...so for the last 2 weeks I have been sending out resumes and out on interviews...also when I got back to NC I found out that my mother has breast cancer. She had a lumpectomy?, and right now we're just waiting on what they're going to do next...so needless to say, the last couple of weeks have been really hectic...but I must say that I am glad to be back up here...I haven't really read up much on what's been going on here, but I will...Until then, good luck for everyone trying, and I'm sorry for those of you that have run into issues...Talk to you later.

So sorry to hear about your mom. When my stepmom was diagnosed with breast cancer all the information that we found on treatment and the support group that we joined helped us to handle her illness. We were all very active in her treatment and I think it helped us a lot. You will be in my prayers and know that it's important that not only your mom has the support, but your entire family as it affects you all.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news....

Hello everyone, i need your help and suggestions-

I never thought this could be happening to me, I filed for my husband and our relationship was declining but we continued to "work on it" now when it was time to go about everything, my husband became hesitant to come to america. I couldn't understand why, he didn't have any money or job and his living wasn't so great so i thought it would be a good idea for him to come and atleast visit for a few months.

That was 2.5 months ago, my husband during his visit was lazy, quiet and mean. He was nice at times but our relationship was mostly strained by his constant complaints. He didn't really like it here.. He used my phone to call his girlfriend down in jamaica constantly, i could tell it was a woman by the way he reacted to my questions and the way the person responded when i called the numbers. He has ran up all my bills to the point where i cannot pay them. Anyway, it was a nightmare, i talked to his family and they told me to leave him. So anyway, he has left and gone back a yard, leaving me with no money or anything, he told me he was coming back. He called me once to tell me he landed and never after that. I called him and I told him i felt that he didn't care about me and that i didn't want him to return after leaving me this way and he was so detached and he said "didn't i try to make u see that?" so he asked me what did i want to do because he didn't feel the same way about me anymore and i said nothing and then he said "move on, cam" and he said he would call me back later (i guess he was so happy to be back with his girlfriend) i said "why bother" and hung up.

I feel relieved that he is gone from my life, i should have gotten rid of him a long time ago but i was trying to honor the sanctity of marriage. I tried to do anything to keep my husband but he wasn't giving anything in return. Now he has recieved his conditional green card, but he's not in the country and i dont want him to be able to come back, naturally. I know this time next year i will be alright but right now i feel bad.. I'm 23 years old, divorced used and abandoned. I was just acting on my my youth and now i'm thrown away.

I would like to have his visa revoked so that he cannot come back, but i was told this was not possible until 2 years from now. I know that he will regret what he has done because it's not really in his nature to be so cold (or so it seems), I know he doesnt like atlanta but i believe he will try to come back later. He has a job in jamaica and he worke a small job here off the books, I know he can lose his gc if he does not pay taxes, so maybe that's one way.

I need your help.
thanks
cam.....johnson

((((Hugs))))
So sorry to hear about that. You are in my thoughts and prayers!

I am sure the school fees vary by thousands in regards to what school you attend and where it is located. I found this little bit of info from a website.

Education is expensive in Jamaica. For instance, to have their child attend a Jamaican high school, the family must pay tuition (“school fees”); plus, the family must bear the full cost of transportation, books, uniforms, and school supplies. Depending upon which high school a student attends (determined by the results of the GSAT—Sixth Grade Achievement Test), the cost for one year of high school (including school lunches) ranges from about $1,250 to $2,750 (U.S.).

Link

Wow...that's kinda expensive. Thanks for all your responses.

My "adopted" daughter in JA wants to finish high school. She's 17 with an one year-old daughter. I was wondering if we could help her financially. I spoke with her briefly last night and she said it will cost around $900 (US) and one math book cost $5800  We got disconnected so I'll more info this weekend. Thanks again.

The cost for one year of high school is no where near $1250(US) THe average school fee cost about $10000(JA) Parents don't give kids more than $500 per day and that is if you travel from, lets say ST Thomas to Kingston for schol. They should be home by 4pm anyways. some schools have a book rental system because books change with the grade. However CXC syudents will have to buy their books, but each book cost less than $2500(JA) $5800 for a math book is ridiculous. That can buy 3 CXC books 1 Math, 1 physics and 1 social Studies. If one Year of High School really cost $80something (JA) ( school fee, books lunch and bus fare) what would happen to the parent who works minimum wage and has two kids in high school???? That's totally unbelievable.

I agree. It is not that expensive to go to school in JA, especially depending on where you live.

I went to one of the prominent high schools in JA and as a part of the Old Students Association, I know the school fees are no way close to USD 1250. I also went to college in Ja and none of my text books were J$5800 - I would spend that on a few that I used throughout the semester. Probably only the books for medical students would be that much and that would be because it will be a reference book throughout their career.

I can't believe you don't talk for weeks. Whoa! I don't know if there was ever a day we didn't talk and sometimes we talked all day. There was once a glitch with the phone card and it didn't cost us any minutes so we stayed on the phone for 8+ hours. Who wouldn't take advantage of free minutes?

  That is too funny. My best friend also got lucky with the phone card going beyond the allotted minutes. They did not get off the phone until the next morning when they had to go to work and school. They went to sleep and woke up to start their day off right. (L)

So funny, i was just there a couple months ago and I can't remember showing my ticket...I just showed my passport I think I maybe losing my mind :)

When I left in January Donna was not allowed to walk in with me even to the ticket counter which is just inside the door. I'll ask next week when I arrive. My concern with printing an itinerary out is getting it to Donna. I don't want to spend $30 to FedEx it to her.

They won't let you in without your passport and an itinerary showing that you are the one traveling. I certainly wouldn't send it Fedex to her. Does she have access to the internet? I have bought tickets for my father to visit me and emailed the itinerary to him; as long as he has his itinerary, he is good to go. I am not sure if she can have the itinerary printed for her at a travel agency.

Good luck ladies you're all in my thoughts

Ladies? Am I the only guy on the Yardie post at this time? Just kidding. I do have a question. How do you plan on getting an airline ticket to your Jamaican SO? I know at the Kingston airport a person can't enter the building without a ticket or boarding pass. Donna is not that proficient on the computer. Should she go to a travel agent there in Kingston to purchase her ticket?

Jay, I am not the travel expert, but she doesn't need the paper ticket to fly. If she has a printed copy of the itinerary it will get her into the airport and to the check in counter. They will check her in based on the confirmation code for the reservation.
