Middle East and North AfricaPicking up the Visa Tomorrow!
We booked ours on Royal Air Maroc because they have a non stop from Casa to JFK. We then booked a separate ticket from JFK to HHH. If you were fine spending the night in NYC you could book SUPER cheap from LGA to HHH.

Middle East and North AfricaMonday 1st of February!!

I noticed VJ changed last night. The options on the left of our posts with our information is organized differently and we can select things under these options which takes us to an area with many others with the same options selected. Was it always like that?

(L) Happy February (L)

LOL I didn't realize it until you said it but yes it did change! I am definitely not observant this morning!

Middle East and North AfricaMy Fiance Denied Visa Today in Casa

I am sorry but I take exception to your post, it may not be a social norm in Morroccan society but, Morocco isn't making the determination on if he recieves a GC or not, US law determinens this and in my opinion if he was denied simply because of a social norm in the country he comes from then he was discriminated against and that is against the law in the US

That's the idea yes, but that's not the practice. The CO's do look at social norms when interviewing people, hence the red flag when there is an age gap.

Middle East and North AfricaA friend of mine (husband denied visa)
first step would be to try to keep the petition at the consulate. Have your friend contact her local congressman and see if they can contact the embassy.

There's a pinned thread at the top of the forum that you should have your friend read. There's a lot of good information.

Good Morning MENA!

So I had to look at the calander on my computer about 80 times to see if it really was Wednesday.... I hope the rest of the week goes quickly!

Middle East and North AfricaOk I read to much here!!!OK
Yes, you read about denials here. But you also should be reading about the approvals!

All you can do is prepare yourselves the best you can and provide as much evidence as possible to show the depth of your relationship. Just keep thinking positive, know the process, understand what you need to do no matter what the outcome, but do your best not to let something that hasn't happened yet eat you alive!

Happy Valentines day everyone!

This is our first V-day together in person so I'm just waiting for my husband to show signs of life this morning so we can go get breakfast. He has to work today but that gives me time to get a nice dinner together :)

Middle East and North Africacasablanca consulate is LOONEYTUNES
Casa doesn't allow you to go in with the person being interviewed. I've heard a few times where they will ask the person to go get the USC outside, but it's rare

Middle East and North Africacourt and prison record and police certificare in Morocco
Your court record is your fiche anthropometrique which can be obtained from your family court system in Morocco, you police record needs to be obtained from the cities you have lived in. You just need to go to the police station for that.

Middle East and North AfricaHello. new member and need help!

Hi,
Congrats first of all.
I am saying this with all friendliness, but if you are planning on applying for your soon-to-be-husband for residency in the US, the fees you need to pay over there for translations, certifications, etc... are nothing compared to the fees you need to pay in the US for the USCIS process.

I hope I don't sound rude but there is a much greater journey ahead...

I don't think the OP was questioning the fees for the visa process. They were simply asking about the fees to get married which is a valid question. One step at a time!

Middle East and North AfricaHello. new member and need help!
I actually did a full work up here in the USA and took the results to Morocco with me. The doctor reviewed them and gave me the medical certificate for like 200dh.

The translations can vary... I think we spent maybe like 500dh for them.

Certifying doesn't cost very much, just like 10-15 dh each. You will need to have the statement of nationality and eligibility to marry certified at the embassy and that's like $35
New BeginningsFemaleMorocco2010-02-16 11:35:00
Middle East and North AfricaWedding...
Everything will work out and you'll end up laughing about this later on. And believe me, it won't matter where you get married on your wedding day, all you'll care about is the man you're marrying. :)

Middle East and North AfricaHelp quickly !!!! RFE at interview!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, send some emails if possible or even if you have or have the ability to get the phone records from that time.

Also, you should definitely send them an email or call them directly. Ask to confirm what is needed and if there is anything else they need you to provide them.

Middle East and North AfricaTravel
Ok, I know this is completely ridiculous but I feel like I need to ask the question anyway. My husband and I are travelling back to Morocco in May and we have a quick layover (4 hours on the way there and 2 hours on the way back) in Madrid. Do we need to do anything special for him? He has had his greencard since like July and he has a Moroccan passport.

Thanks everyone!
New BeginningsFemaleMorocco2010-02-25 11:11:00
Middle East and North Africakept his passport...
It can be a good sign but don't buy the tickets or anything yet.

Call or email the consulate 1-2 times a week for status updates. That's what we did and make sure you're very nice to the people.
New BeginningsFemaleMorocco2010-02-25 09:33:00
Middle East and North AfricaWhere / how did you buy your recent tickets for travel to Morocco?
Iberia has some good prices too. I have flown with them every time I've been to Morocco

What about letters, affidavits, pics of her with your family?
New BeginningsFemaleMorocco2010-03-08 12:26:00
Middle East and North Africahave visa now what??
You'll need to do an address change at the POE for your husband and you will also need to do an address change for your I864. I know you're father was the co-sponsor but I believe you'll still need to do one as well.
New BeginningsFemaleMorocco2010-03-18 14:14:00
Middle East and North AfricaTranslations for interview?

I emailed the consulate in Casablanca and this is what they replied:

Dear Madam,

All official Moroccan documents need to be translated by a sworn translator.
Regards,
IV Unit

On our paperwork from the NVC about what to bring to the interview it stated that all documents need to either be in english or the native language of the country.
New BeginningsFemaleMorocco2010-03-25 12:48:00
Middle East and North AfricaTranslations for interview?
That's not the correct answer. The information needs to be either in english or the native language of the country. So if it's in arabic it's ok.

Middle East and North AfricaOrphanages in Morocco..Double standards and hypocrisy

no, the people that were taking care of these children behaved irresponsibly, thought they could flout the law just because they wanted to, and now these children get to suffer FURTHER because of their own bloody arrogance. it seems extremely hypocritical to come into someone else's country and thumb your nose at their laws, regardless of whether you think those laws are just or not when said actions cause the very people they are purporting to want to help further upheaval in their already miserable lives. typically in the past, it's taken a lot of effort to get yr ####### thrown out of the country for this offense.

and don't let it go unsaid just how much those thrown out stand to benefit from this incident. notoriously, incidents like this generate sizable upticks in donations. it can be a big moneymaker. some of these groups really thrive on this kind of thing, getting everyone back home in their churches frothing at the mouth over perceived persecutions under every rock.

I agree. These people were aware of the laws and decided not to follow them. If people did that in America we would throw them out too.

Middle East and North Africamarriage in casa

Arrive in Casa and go directly to the embassy to get the documents you need there to get married in Morocco. Have your husband get his police record and all of his necessary doc. BEFORE you get there. Also have him meet with the person that will marry you to get everything straight. It is possible but you will be constantly on the go, it helps if you know people if ya know what i mean lol. Good luck! I am proof that it can be done. Arrived in Morocco Dec. 17th and got married Dec. 27th 2008 :)

http://casablanca.us...quirements.html

It took us about 15 days in Tetouan.

What Kenza said is great advice. Also scan all of the documents you're bringing and have him start getting them translated. This will save you at least a few days if you don't have to wait for translations!

Middle East and North AfricaPalestinian Refugees from Iraq Arriving in U.S.

120 of these families have arrived in the U.S. so far - the latest 3 just this week. They are being resettled in a number of locations around the country, including California, Texas, Arizona, New York, Georgia, and Alaska.

Most of these refugees are families with young children, and they arrive here with very little besides their clothing. If anyone would like to help them in their resettlement here in the U.S., it's easy to do. Al-Awda's Refugee Support Committee has set up a "wish list" on amazon.com with basic household items that are urgently needed:

WISH LIST

I never knew this was out there and I really wish I had known before. I looked through the wish list and I see mostly 1 of 10 being donated or sometimes 6 or 20. What they are asking for are simply basic necessities and for God's sake they deserve them.

I think it would be great for all VJ members to step up here and contribute, not just MENA members. We're all dealing in some way with immigration here and the ####### it puts us through. Now imagine you're a refugee with young kids in a foreign land you have no control over. The majority of us rely on computers to get us through immigration. I know I would not have made it through this if I couldn't at least see my husband while we were waiting. These people don't even have that and are probably scared out of their minds. They've left the refugee camp for a better life, we have to help give that to them. It's only the right thing to do, no matter what side of the aisle you vote on.

Middle East and North AfricaBusiness in Morocco
My understanding is that it can be a bit complicated for foreigners to start businesses there but if you have your husband who is still a citizen lead the campaign it might go a little easier for you. There is a lot to take into consideration so I would suggest first looking into what the US requirements will be such as the tax implications.

I've seen a few books at the library on starting a business in a foreign country so you might want to do a quick search for some of those.
