I tried looking for my NOA and can't seem to find it. I got my paperwork sent back because I forgot to sign, sent it back and the next thing I got was my biometrics appointment.

It's form I-797C, Notice of Action, ASC Appointment notice, dated 7/15.

Cheers!

Anything over 5 months you should submit a request to USCIS and see what's going on with the delay or contact your congressman. You shouldn't have to be waiting 7 or 8 months.

Woah, it's been way too long since I've checked this thread... when it was around page 10 or so...

Anyway, how is everyone out there! I'm still flipping through the pages to see what everyone is chatting about. I'm going to see my love next month, end of July and the timeline date keeps getting sooner and sooner. Igor's list I'm dropping too... I'm at 148 as we speak.

Just wanted to let everyone know that not only am I thinking about the well-being of myself, but to everyone else out there that filed in May. I hope everyone's NOA2 comes soon so there's no more of this distance! Granted NOA2 isn't the ticket over here, but after it things move FAST!

Tonight I am going to pray for ALL OF YOU! I am not a very religious person, but I believe that even good thoughts there will be positive results in whatever form they come in. Even if these prayers come unanswered, we all need to stick together and keep our heads up.

Good luck everyone!

NOA1 came in the mail today. What an awesome feeling knowing this is starting! I know it's a long way to go... but to think that one day we'll be together keeps me going.

What's going on through your head? Excited? Nervous? Wonder where you're going to live? How to move him/her here?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMoving fiance's parents to the US

you cannot petition for any family member of hers. only when she becomes a USC in the future she can petition for her parents. She will be the sponsor, and you can be the co-sponsor as her husband, if needed. Parents are filed separatly, so when she becomes as USC she will file one petition for her mother and another petition for her father.

In the mean time, they can get a tourist visa to visit.

B-)

Thank you for your upfront reply.

So in order for them to eventually come, it would take years and years...

I wonder, from the time we got married and she had an AOS, then lifting of conditions... how long will it take? It seems like it would be years upon years to get them over here.

Any clue?

Thanks.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMoving fiance's parents to the US
VJ,

This is my second post on VJ and thanks to everyone on these forums and wonderful guides, I submitted my I-129F to get my fiance to move to the US with me.

While talking about our future, I mentioned to her that a lot people have been asking about her parents... and if they are going to move to the US at some point of time.

I've searched here, Google, etc. and haven't came up with a solid answer.

What's the best process to have her mom and dad move to the US? What forms should I start with? Is it all possible?

I make enough money where (I assume) I could take care of the whole family. Any advice would be so, so much appreciated. Like I said, I looked far and wide and am trying to figure out where to start.

So VJ, can my fiance's parents in Ukraine eventually make it to the USA if we decide to down the road?

Thanks!

G & I

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAffidavit of Support... how much money to have in your account?
To clarify my question... what I meant to ask is how much money needs to be reflected on my statement when I send them my info?

I make plenty more than the poverty line but was just wondering if I need 3, 4, 10,000 dollars in my bank account to show that I can support her.

I'm in the process of saving money right now... just wondering how much, if any (if it even matters to USCIS) money I would need to show she won't become a public charge.

Thanks for all your comments so far. Anything else would be appreciated.

VJ,

Thanks for taking the time to read this post. So far, you guys have been a wonderful help and I just received my NOA1 in the mail a couple days ago.

I had a friend who did the whole K1 process and who is helping me with my current situation. I asked him how much money he had in his account when he sent in his I-134 after he got his NOA2.

I've done a little research and I know you have to make a certain amount of money, above the poverty line... but my question is...

How much money do people usually have in their account when they send in their bank statement? My friend said he had somewhere around $2,000.

I'm just trying to save up some money and want to know where I should be at.

Thank you guys!

Africa: Sub-SaharanNairobi Embassy Thread!
Looks like I'm a little late to the party but its good to know that somebody on VJ is recognizing Nairobi's Embassy. I have mine set to Armenia? We should all set our timelines to the same thing, so at least we could search by something!

If anyone has any questions, about any part of the process, you can ask me. We are just a few short months (hopefully) away from citizenship. But honestly, that's what a lot of patience, a whole lot of paperwork, expensive form fees, and following the rules will get you.

Congratulations to Everyone, no matter what stage you're at. good.gif

Hopefully my husband will become a US Citizen sometime before Christmas and I am hoping to throw him a surprise party after his oath ceremony. I want to celebrate not only the end to a very long journey but also thank him for going through all of it so that we could be together.

I was thinking a cake and inviting friends and family....Does anyone have any ideas about things we could do? Maybe some of you have already been to a celebration like this.

Thanks!

US Citizenship General DiscussionWhat to do after the Oath Ceremony?
What needs to be taken care of after the Oath Ceremony?

So far I have gathered that the Social Security needs to be updated, a passport can be
received, but what else needs to be done?

With Social Security, are there certain forms that need to be filled first?

New Driver's License, Tax Information?

Thanks!

Can someone please update the list for me? I really messed it up last time.
The new date to add is the oath, 09/28/2009.

THANKS!

Interview Breakdown:
We were there about 15 minutes before the interview and he went in about 15 minutes
past the scheduled time. Although his citizenship is based on our marriage, they never asked
to see me (I was thankful :-)

Otherwise, it was all a very quick process. He passed everything and was done with the interview in
approx. 15 to 20 minutes. He was asked a lot of questions from our paperwork over the years. I think
that's a good way to test if people are honest. Then they asked him to wait in the waiting room for a few minutes.

Then we waited another 30 minutes and they gave him the oath form right
there at the interview. He will be a citizen on Sept. 28th! Very fast.

Good luck to all. I still can't believe that our immigration journey will be over a week from today.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionChange of Address - Time Limit
My husband is a permanent resident. We are still about 9 months away from filing to lift his conditions (I-751). My question is this, we moved about 3 months ago to a new home. Do I need to file a change of address right away or can I just wait until we file the I-751 to report the address change? I still receive mail from the old home because it was with family. Should I be concerned that I didn't state the change of address within 10 days of moving?

Thanks! Let me know.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresan unusual dilemma
I don't know what state you live in, but here in Minnesota if you don't have a driver's license, you can get a state-issued photo ID card. You can get them from the Department of Motor Vehicles and some county offices. I'd check into that if I were you.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAlternatives to K1 and K3?
My aunt's nephew and his Bulgarian girlfriend did the same--she came over on a tourist visa, they got married, she stayed and got a greencard. The difference may be he is a bank president--and I'm not. I don't have untold thousands of dollars to hire an attorney should the USCIS decide to pick on us and neither does my fiance. So, I will go the K-1 route and hope for the best. It is still the safer route. If we had lots of money, maybe we'd try to challenge the system, too, but we don't. So much for "liberty and justice for ALL."

Just out of curiosity...
I keep hearing about the "Come over to the states on a tourist visa (or in this particular case an H2 visa), get married and just get to stay here and apply for green card" cases. My mother has a client who is attempting to do something like that, and that's literally the advise that their lawyer gave them. The guy is an H2 holder (diplomatic visa) and the lawyer told him that after the wedding here in the States he can just apply for green card.
Does that even work? If so...why the hell do K1/K3 visas even exist?

Or does the process go something like:
Wedding in the US
Apply for K3/CR1
Stay in the US until current visa runs out.
Leave country for interview (or when visa runs out)
Get back after visa is granted.

It's too late for us, but if this works it beats the "wait indefinitely while we process all the other visas" approach at VSC, so that other people could use it.

Happy 4th, have BBQ and drown your sorrows.
Andrei.

CanadaComin Back from Canada
Hey folks

Ive been tryin to help my sister with this immigration stuff, and we have been readin the forums tryin to find an answer but decided to post our question here

My sister (an American) is engaged to a Canadian guy. He has been in the states for the past 4 months living with her. They got engaged a few months ago. The last time he was back in Canada was only for a few weeks, and before that he was livin with her for about 6 months. (So over the past year he's only been in Canada about 2 weeks)

In September they're goin back to Canada to be at his cousin's wedding in Ontario. They're going to be in Canada about 2 weeks.

His flight doesn't have him goin back to Canada...just from US to there, and back into the US. Looks like from these forums that isn't a good sign to the border guards? Also, he ain't got no job in Canada or house or nothin...only tie to Canada he's got is a student ID from college that I think he's still enrolled in up there.

And another thing----- he is flyin in to a small airport, that help at all??? Last time (after bein here bout 6 months and goin to Canada) he flew into a small airport in Minnesota (canadians are only foreign planes there), and they didn't ask hardly any questions or nothin.

Well thanks for your time

Just wonderin' if you think he'll be coming back into the US without hassle, or might get some hassle, or what ya thinkin

Thanks much

Phil

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEngaged and looking for some advice....
I’ve been looking at this site for quite some time and am very impressed how resourceful and educated a lot of these posts are so I am hoping I can get some feedback.

My fiancé is from Mexico and is currently here in US on a tourist visa and was granted 6 months until July. We just got engaged and are now wondering what would be the best route to take, in hopes that we can get married in Cancun at the end of this year and also avoid being apart for too long.

Is there some form that we can apply for if we get married here, let’s say by April and have some kind of change of status after we are married so that he can stay? I am really just not sure. The other option is to apply for k-1 and have him go back to Mexico in June and come back once its approved. I am just not sure with all the processing time if we would both be able to travel back to Cancun to have our dream wedding? :/

Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!
