Mexico, Latin & South AmericaFinancial documents--PLEASE HELP
Hi All,
Thanks again for all the information folks have shared on this site...it's been invaluable.

I'm finalizing the paperwork for my fiance to take to his interview in Rio. On the official guidelines it seems that the only necessary fiancial paperwork is the I-134 (affidavit of support) and the two supporting documents (letter from employer and letter from bank--i'm not self-imployed and dont have any bonds, so those dont apply to me). However, in the list people are given at the consulate, it appears that last year's tax forms are also requested.

My question is whether these tax forms are suggested or required. I ask because I've got a well-paying job and have sufficient money in the bank, but my tax forms from last year show me making significantly below the poverty line (I was in Brazil for half the year, and then spent several months looking for a job upon returning to the states). If it's not absolutely required, I'd rather not submit the tax forms.

Does anybody have insight about this???

I really appreciate your help.
Take good care,
M

Cute picture Ashley :)

Benita...I would say "you're welcome" for the recipe but any recipe you would get from me would probably make you sick...which leads me to believe you were writing to another "stephanie" :P LOL. Glad all is o.k. with the babe. This kid is a fighter since it defied most medical rationale of fertilization. Your true lil' miracle. Hope the move into the new apt went well.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Glad everything went a.o.k. at the doctor. A clean bill of health is what we want to hear. The bangs are currently in bootcamp. I’ll let you know if they pass.

ICK. I understand Charity. Not a fun thing to do. Hope everything goes o.k. and if you can stop in later, do!

I had the haircutter do a few bangs and yesterday they looked o.k. (cuz I didn’t wash the hair after she styled it) but today is a whole other story. My bangs need to go to “bang bootcamp”.

Benita, how are you feeling today? Still sick? Hope not. I know what you mean about not being able to stop in much at work. I can’t really either. I always type my stuff in word (looks like I am working) and then cut and paste it into the reply. Hard living on the edge. Ha, ha.

See ya’ll later!

p.s. Elvia, hola chica! Ya sabes si todavía vas pa’ Mexico?

Hey all.

Kind of busy today. Went to the dentist, which I absolutely hate. But my mom has guilted me for life into taking care of my teeth (which I DO want to do) since my grandma paid for my braces. So even though the smell of dentists office makes my stomach turn, I am diligently there every year. How mom’s have such power over us….and she lives fricken 1500+ miles away!

Wow, that is great!! I know about the dressing up thing. It sucks. We can only wear blue jeans and tennies to work on Fridays. Rest of the week I got to wear uncomfortable clothes and shoes. I don’t understand why, I sit in an office all day. At least nylons aren’t required in summer and open toed shoes and sandals (flip flops on Fridays) are o.k. I work for pretty cool people too.

Tell her much luck. When does she start?

Don’t hate me!

That pic is way old; about 2 ½ years old. Miguel looks the same and I look older. Why is that?! NOT FAIR!

I have an after photo on my comp too. I’ll attach that if I can figure out how.

See it adds both. I’ve had it. I just don’t get it.

I did do the attachment thing and then it attached it to every post and while I may think the photo is nice, it would be a little excessive if it was on EVERY one of my posts. I will try it again.

I second what you say Charity. I wonder how they would feel if we said "when are you going to get a decent haircut?" or "when are you going to dump your loser boyfriend". See how they like it.

I didn’t know such programs exist!! WOW, that sounds cool.

I wonder if Marta edited her post. She posted one that said we are home and then her next post explained a bit about the visa experience and then it was in the last line that said something about ophelia. I am going to try to post a photo now. If it works it is like 2.5 yrs old but that is all I got on this comp.

WOW! I totally want a gold star for being able to add that in. You all don’t even know how computer illiterate I am. Benita would be especially embarrassed since comps are her field.

Marta posted under I-601 Ciudad Juarez Club.

I am not sure about the bang thing either. My hair is super thick so I was thinking it might help out. If I put it up for the day it is still wet when I go to bed. When I had it real long I used to clip it up somehow but always had a headache from pulling it too tight and then would dig the clip into my head because I have too much hair it would never hold. And then one day I was like screw this, put it in braids and went to the gal who cuts my hair. When she cut off the first braid I felt time stop and then everyone started staring. After I cut them off I kinda wanted to keep the braids but, really, what would I have done with them? I had it like chin length for the past few years and then took the plunge again. I don’t think I’ll grow it as long this time.

Someday if I figure out how to post photos I’ll post one of us.

It isn’t super long, a little past my shoulders. I used to have it really long and cut it off for Wigs for Kids. I am thinking more of getting bangs. Those skinny girls in Hollywood always have such cute bangs. Though I am sure a lot has to do with their personal hairstyler, something I do not have.

Are you able to get into I2US? Everytime I try it says “critical error”.

I too have memorized Miguel’s new #. It is easy too. Lots of repetition, which I need for my feeble brain.

Benita...sorry about the morning ickys….that must suck. I don’t get what you mean about the late ovulator. Are you saying you got pregnant only days before your period was due? Holy cow. That is crazy.

Charity…way to go on the two hearts and on the SSN card for Javier. Miguel still has his “old one” memorized and doesn’t for the life of him know this one. I told him he might want to work on that. Say hi to Melissa for us and tell her not to give up.

I am not sure what Elvia meant either. I saw that post of hers on I2US but I can’t log back into that site so you all will have to keep me updated. Hopefully it was a joke or something?

I am getting my haircut today and am quite exicted. I plan to cut all the moodiness and depressed stuff OFF. Ha,ha.

Morning all!

Cars are not cheap!! That is cool you did it yourself Elvia. Working on cars is pretty liberating. I am so ready for spring to completely be here. Saturday was crappy weather and got me depressed. I told Miguel we needed to move somewhere warm and sunny year round. It is very tempting about this time of year.

Did you all check out the march in LA?! Wasn’t that fricken awesome. I am crossing my fingers that a good humane law comes out. Some of the proposals are so damn draconian. I just can’t believe it.

The plan is at end of November. That is when his seasonal job ends. He thinks he will drive a truck down for his father (which is a whole OTHER topic for another day…because that sounds like such a bad idea to me…especially since he started nodding off when we drove to Chicago for his passport after 20 minutes. We are NOT a roadtrippen’ couple) and then fly back. I plan to just fly. I hate roadtrips. My butt always hurts from sitting too long. I need to put charmin in there like the commercials of the little kids putting toilet paper padding in their pants.

Also point out that in a few years when he has citizenship he can file for his family too. Miguel got pretty close with his brothers again when he was in Mexico and we just try to point out that thanks to his status now, we’ll be able to go and visit whenever we can (well, depending on $$ of course) but that things are in such a better state because of all we have sacrificed. I imagine no one in Javier’s family (mom, sister, etc) would want him to jeopardize that and not have him return home for years at a time.

It isn’t too much to ask and seriously I would put my foot down and say “no”, he can’t live here. Totally understandable and FAR from childish. He is your husband, you have just been through a huge stressful process and have been separated for 6 months. Javier got married to YOU and you are now his immediate family. He needs to think how things affect you and your marriage before making rash decisions. However I bet he’ll be understanding once you are able to speak with him. Seems from what you are saying, it is his father that wants to push this arrangement the most. Well, Jaime isn’t your son so if Javier’s father needs to make living arrangements for his son and the place he thought would work won’t (your place) then he needs to keep searching…or have Jaime do it on his own. 19 is plenty old…shoot most kids are on their own at 18, I know I was. And Miguel, like Javier, was on his own at 15.

It is a hard thing because living with family is looked at so differently culture to culture. Miguel has a young brother whom he has talked about living with us sometime in the future (not near) and the only way I would do it is if we had a house (and he could be in the basement) and he had his own car. My step-dad’s brother moved in next door to my mom & step-dad and my step-dad was always over there and finally my mom said, are you married to me or to him?? I think of this too, while an extra person around is nice for company at times, I think it would be easy for Javier to hang out with Jaime all the time and you guys might miss out on the important regular conversation you have now. I believe you two may (maybe because we somewhat still are) still be in the re-adjusting phase and throwing a third body (not made from you two) in there might add more confusion than help.

I would also say no, at least not now. BTW, how old is Jaime? Isn’t it time he venture out on his own?

Ohhh Benita...all too familiar. One night Miguel and I were sound asleep when at 3am a phone call comes in saying his uncle is in the ER via ambulance with stomach pains. Nobody at his house took him in their car so he had to go via ambulance $$$ (wonder if they didn't take him cuz he's a faker??) So we go to the ER and wait around and finally go in and see him. I think he had indigestion or something ridiculous like that. But OH NO it is a big deal to him. I work next to the hosp so the next morning I took off a few hours, went and picked him up and drove him home. Do I get a thank you? Nope. It seems expected. Luckily my husband was understanding and understands how his uncle is. So they give him these meds or whatever to take and he never does. That is what pisses me off the most...they give you a treatment plan and he totally blew it off. No wonder nobody paid attention to him. Some people are such babies that will go to any lengths for attention.

Elvia...so are you going to live in MX? If you can, I would too. What I would have given to be able to go. Just too many things that prevented me.

The way the doctors count is screwy to me too! I guess they do it that way since a period is a solid marker whereas actual conception can be up in the air as to the actual date it happened. Maybe that reasoning will help Alex get it. I am sure when our time comes I'll have to get out the chalk and chalkboard...........

Hope you let us get a glimpse of the lil' baby chagala when you get the US. ;) Good luck telling the fam...I am sure they'll be excited. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise since some folks (and possibley your overstayers in your house) don't like the newborn cry at all hours. Maybe when the lil' one is around you'll have to go out to the living room to rock it.

I think the 8 weeks is what you should go with. I’ve heard the same thing as Charity…that they start counting from the first day of your last period. Maybe your doctor didn’t hear you right when you told him the date you got your last period?
