Hi, I have a question about the interview. I was watching the youtube video of the embassy and it says that you cannot take in mobile phones. It tells you not to bring them but doesn't show what happens if you do. I've been to the embassy before a few years ago and can't remember what I did with mine when I went in. So can you or can't you take your phone in with you???

No phone allowed, full stop. Either don't take it or leave it at the chemist round the corner who has a nice sideline in left property.

They state it must be supplied within 40 days. In practice it is about a month but at least something to consider if it will help solve a potential problem.

still stewing about his "NO LIVE TRACE" on his UK police certificate thingie and he doesnt know when he let the air out of his neighbors tires when he was a teenager

If he can he should try and track down the paperwork for this before the interview. They do usually ask to see something official detailing how the case was disposed off. Either a copy of the court record or caution details or however else it got dealt with.

As you have time now better to see what can be done before an interview than delay things afterward.

Good starting point if there was a no live trace on the PNC there is a spent record on there. Go to web site of your local police force and get a data access request form (PNC check) and send it off. It will come back from Scotland Yard and should show the spent conviction on it. In fact when you fill the form out ask for all spent and live traces to be shown. It is the way police certificates for US immigration used to be done before ACPO got involved and only do half the job. Then he will at least know when it happened and the Embassy can see how it was dealt with if/when they ask. Do not send the Embassy this form only the ACPO police certificate, this one is for you to use when asked for details about the event.

Can't think what the actual words are but it points you to a web page which is:-

Worth looking to see what you will need and start to get it all together if you haven't done so.

It seems like this thread is so less busier than it used to be... where are all the Brits???

macd, get your fiance to call DOS from USA (which is much cheaper than calling London embassy). They should be able to tell you if there's anymore info on your file. They will also be able to tell you if an interview has been scheduled.

MARM...urgh...I can't believe you are still in this mess! I think back to when I was going through my interview process & you were giving advice! you must feel like you are in limbo! You are to me like Sara (Estadia), totally helpful to everyone else but going through so much stress & heartache yourself & still helping others. Good for you! People like you always get rewarded in the end! good.gif I hope your fiance gets out of AP soon.

Thanks MonkeyJuice! I will ask him to make the call. Good question too = where is everyone?! blink.gif a bit quiet around here

I know someone else who has been waiting just a bit longer than you. Don't forget most of the consular staff are American and a lot come home in August for a vacation. Slows things way down, happens every year.

Packet 4s have started being sent out again. The person I know who was waiting theirs was sent out Tuesday just gone with an interview date later this month.

August time each year things slow up as quite a few consular section staff take a vaction back home.

Things usually get back to normal fairly quickly afterwards. Been like that for a few years now.

The fact that the US and England are in the same bracket doesn't help the US' chances in my opinion.

It's a group not a bracket :innocent: and the top two in the group qualify for the next round. If the US can't finish above Turkey and Slovenia it will be a pretty piss poor show indeed.

Lansbury, when I was growing up in Connecticut our number was one away from a doctor who specialized in gerontology. We would frequently get calls from old dears who wanted to make an appointment. One time, one of them got snippy with my older brother who had told her that this was not a doctor's office and that she had misdialled. She accused him of lying to her. My brother hung up on her, and she called right back. This time, he took her appointment. What a surprise it must have been when she showed up at Dr Fasano's office two weeks later to find there was no appointment!

I'm just sayin', you might start taking details...

Now that's an idea, could be very helpful and tell them we've just had a cancellation and can they come right away.

you need to get him answering the phone at home to the annoying sales people, convince them that they have called England, it's evil but hilarious to hear them go oh ####### I've called the UK! - I find them highly annoying so when it's not some silly recording I like to have fun :P

I never thought about that, I foresee some fun on the horizon.

The opposite is also quite funny. I have a London phone number which rings my home phone in the US. Keep it so my sons can call me on their inclusive mobile minutes without it costing them. It must be quite close to the number for a doctors surgery because we get the odd call for appointments etc. Trying to convince people they have called Oregon and it is the middle of the night is sometimes quite worth the inconvenience of being woken up.

All of this time I was reading reviews from interviews at the London Embassy and people were saying they pay at the window the day of, now I'm hearing you have to pre-pay or they won't schedule an interview? Which is correct?

You prepay it has been changed.

K Visa Applicants pay the fee to the Operator Assisted Information Service prior to attending the visa interview. Instructions concerning payment will be sent to you with the appointment letter.

The UK isn't a country it is a collection of countries. So to say you come from the UK is a bit like saying you come from the EU if you live in France. Not quite the same but I think it gives the gist of why I prefer to say I come from England rather than the UK.

Just a thought, if you know the name of the ship do a google search on it.

I did when our stuff was shipped over. The ships name threw up a tracking site and I could see where it was each day as it crossed the Atlantic, sailed down the east coast and threw the Panama Canal. (Not much to do each day when you don't have a job)

How long did it take everyone to get their items in the States. We are going a bit crazy waiting. Its been six weeks and when I called last week, the company that handles things on this end hadn't even received our paperwork yet.

It depends if it was in a shared container or sole use. We had sole use it took 6 weeks, one week of which was over Christmas and the ship docked in LAX on the 24th.

Shared containers take longer as you have to wait for somebody else to make up the remaining part of the load and how long or short that is, is down to luck.

They required all their usual forms and things and on top of that they wanted a copy of the photo page of my passport and a copy of my visa. I am sure that there were other ways to do things but as it takes three months or so to ship (sometimes less) I figured I was going to be here before it all arrived anyway smile.gif They also want a copy of my SS card when I get it too smile.gif

You might want to keep those documents handy when you get here. We shipped with Pickfords via LAX and agent this end was in Canada. When Pickfords faxed the documents to him some were unreadable and we had to send copies from here. If it is the same people looking after you this end they will call in plenty of time before the ship docks and we found them very good and helpful

On one of the bits of paper I got from the Embassy they said it could be put into the checked baggage, it just had to be available if requested at POE.

It's on the white form headed Important Information which came with your visa. :D

My white form had nothing on it about x-rays being available at POE. All it told me was that I had 6 months to enter the USA....

That doesn't come as a surprise. It does seem that there are various versions of most of the forms and it is pot luck which one we get. The I-864 we got was the one requiring it to be signed in front of a notary and produce 3 years tax returns, even though that had changed a short time before.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionOLD ARREST - PROBLEM?

I all ready have a subject access report showing there is nothing on me on the national police database. BUT, I obtained this report through Surrey police (where I now live). I spoke to someone at Hampshire police (where the arrest occured) and he said that if I asked for subject access form to Hampshire specifying the details they may be able to provide more in the way of detail.

What is on the Police National Computer about you is nothing, as you already know from your subject access report. Hampshire will not obtain any different information from the PNC if you apply to them. What they have or may not have is a record of your caution in their force records. The US Embassy is only interested in the PNC report.

You correctly answered you had been arrested and can produce the PNC report to show you didn't receive a conviction. Once you explain the circumstance there shouldn't be a problem.

As to the VWP, you had been arrested so shouldn't have used it. I once had a British citizen refused entry at Chicago and put on the next plane back to the UK because he had once been arrested for Breach of the Peace, something which isn't a criminal offence. All it took was a phone call to immigration at O'Hare airport, to tell them he was in breach of the VWP. He was trying to remove his daughter from the UK without the mothers consent and I circumvented a long extradition hearing to get him and the child back. But in your case it was a genuine error and I very much doubt the Embassy will even know that you had done so. They are just ordinary people at the Embassy who know people misunderstand things, especially the VWP, and your reasonable explanation should resolved that problem fairly easily.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWhen to post the Packet 3 Documents?
At the London Embassy the interview date is around 4 - 6 weeks after you return packet 3 checklist. The police certificate normally comes between the 30th and 40th day after you applied for it, the certificate is valid for one year so apply as soon as possible.

If you are ready to send back the checklist I personally wouldn't do that until at least 3 weeks after you have applied for the police certificate, if you want to take it to the interview.

Having said that if you attend the interview without the certificate they just will not issue the visa until you have obtained it and sent it to them.
