So... does anyone know of the most painless way to transfer his savings from pounds to dollars?

I use Moneycorp to transfer my funds www.moneycorp.com. Not as expensive as my bank and a much better exchange rate.

United KingdomI-130 Processing at London Embassy

Somebody told me (nice credible reference there, huh?) that in August a great number of the staff goes on holiday, so things tend to get backed up. I haven't been checking yet because we're nowhere near that far along, but your question seems to support that possibility.

Alice

I hoped that was the case. Anyway the post just come and the NOA2 approved on 7th September was in it. The Embassy web site still says processing 13th June I-130s.

United KingdomI-130 Processing at London Embassy
Following the processing dates on the Embassy web site for I-130 filed with them, it appears they haven't processed any for at least five weeks. They have been stalled processing those filed on the 13th June since beginning of August. It is just our luck ours was filed on 14th June.

Is this normal for this time of year or does anyone know of a reason why this has happened. Just trying to get some idea of when things might start moving again.

According to the checklist its 3, one for the medical and 2 for the visa. You usually get 4 anyway when you have it done so just take the spare with you to both in case!

OK got myself a little confused.

How many photographs do I need in total for the packet three and the medical exam. The check list says 3 photographs but is that enough for the medical. I need to get these done so might as well make sure I get enough, and is it OK if they all comply with the instructions on the check list.

Lansbury, I read that as if "each family member" were immigrating with you.
Your spouse just happens to be your sponsor.. er, or the other way 'round. :)

I believe those are instructions for the immigrant(s).

Right OK, I've have real problems with this checklist. For some reason I've understood most of it a different way from which it is intended to be read.

Sorry to be a pest with another question.

We are doing a DCF via the London Embassy.

Does my wife, the US citizen, need her birth certificate. The only one she has is the credit card size plastic one which does not have her parents names on it. We are about to order a full copy from Oregon but that could take ages to arrive.

Sorry didn't make the question clear.

Is her birth certificate needed at the visa interview

http://www.visajourn...h...om&page=dcf

:guides:

I had read that before, but thanks for pointing me to it again.

Unless I keep missing something it doesn't answer the question. The check list says

Birth Certificate* - the original or certified copy of the birth record of each family member (yourself, your spouse and all unmarried children under the age of 21). The certificate must contain the person's date and place of birth and names of both parents.

My wife the USC only has a certified copy of hers which doesn't have the names of her parents on it, and didn't even know there was another certificate that did. Reading other posts and information on this forum, I was under the impression that for the interview the personal documents required would be mine. All other documents required are referred to as the "applicants" which I have taken to be just myself.

What I was hoping is that someone on this forum who has obtained a spouse visa via DFC at London could confirm if they had to produce the USC birth certificate.

Lansbury,
While I did have a certified copy of my BC with me, I'm trying to remember why it would be needed at visa interview stage. Normally, the beneficiary would go to this interview alone.
The I-864 requires proof of citizenship, which could be a US passport.

However, is that YOUR checklist you're quoting above? The 'ready for interview' one?
I just reveiwed several places and can't find a requirement for the USC's birth certificate for the visa interview....

I am begining to suspect I have been sent the wrong checklist

United KingdomLondon Medical

My case has recently been sent from the NVC to the Embassy in London, I remember reading here somewhere I can book my medical already but I have no idea how to do this! I don't wanna wait for the Embassy to send me the stuff to do it, I'm really impatient and want to get it over with. Can anyone give me a link or a explanation how to do this? Thanks a lot guys,

Pete

Oh BTW we've filed for CR-1.

I called to book my medical today and there were appointments on Wednesday and Thursday next week. So when you get packet 3 there is not going to be a long delay for a medical appointment.

United Kingdommoving costs

We were quoted over 2,000 pounds to pack, remove, and ship our books, CDs, DVDs, clothing, and kitchen things. We're not bringing any furniture or electronics with us aside from computers (which are being shipped by air minus their hard drives, which are traveling with us on the plane).

Oh, and we'd have to come to Houston to pick our ###### up. They won't deliver it to Dallas.

I think that's a ripoff quote.

That isn't that bad a price. We have been quoted for a 20ft container London - Portland (OR), with all packing and unpacking £5200. All the quotes we got were around the same price.

United KingdomMEDICAL APPOINTMENT

After filling in all the additional forms and starting the process, the nurse conducting the physical noticed that my fiancee did not have her shot record available and that her daughter was missing one shot from her record. Now this is the interesting part. The woman (knowing it was a K-1 visa) informed my fiancee that if she didnt get the shots right away it would delay her visa process until she did. She started to say something else and my fiancee interrupted her informing her that under the K-1 visa she wasnt required to get the shots until applying for AOS. The nurse immediately stopped talking about it and wrote in the report that my fiancee wished to defer the shots.

Bottom line there is like we have heard from others, the medical facility doing the physical will try to get you to pay for the shots at their clinic!!!!! Dont let them con you into that!!! There is no sense in paying 30 pounds per shot when they can be done free, and there is no requirement to have them done prior to interview.

I had my medical that day, and needed one shot. The nurse went out of her way to explain I could get it done at my GP, and when I said no do it now, she tried to persuade me to wait to avoid paying for it.

So I find you inference that the medical centre try and con people out of money way off the mark.

anyway, to anyone waiting for interviews from london, i hope you get them soon!!

Who did you call. We are about 10 days behind you, packet 3 sent back 23/09 and would like to be away from the UK by early November.

We have a VoIP phone in our house in London from a US provider with an Oregon number on it. If we haven't heard anything by end of next week I can get my wife to call and they will see a call coming in from the States, might help us out.

United KingdomConcerns about contents of Police Certificate

We have three questions:

1. Will a restraining order without a formal charge/arrest or conviction show up on a UK police certificate?

2. If it does show up, will the letter help at all?

3. If the letter will help, would it have the secondary effect of getting her in trouble for filing a false order?

Thanks for your advice.

JenM

A restraining order is issued by what is called a County Court in the UK and is a court which deals with civil matters only, and not police matters.

If that is all it is it will not be recorded on the police national computer.

Hopefully as I've been an authorised user of the police national computer since 1981 this will put your mind at rest.

Just a qualifier that holds good if what you say is correct and the terminology hasn't got confused.

United KingdomAutosource
I found the details for this company on the Allied-Pickfords website and phoned them for details.

They claim to be able to source certain makes of US cars at prices based on the factory invoice price. You order in the UK and the car is delivered via a franchised dealer in the USA.

They also claim to be able to get you finance based on the lowest available to a US resident taking your UK credit history into account, and motor insurance at low rates based again on your UK history.

There is a UK office but the deal is done via the sales office in New York.

Tomorrow the New York office will call to discuss exactly what is on offer and the cost. Before I explore this further I was wondering if anyone on VJ had heard of Autosource or had used them and could say if they are genuine or not.

United KingdomPolice Certificate???

I have an Enhanced Disclosure issued by the Criminal Records Bureau dated in March,
which was required for my job.
Is this the same as the Police Certificate required by the embassy?

I've never see an Enhanced Disclosure form so don't know if it is the same or not. As far as I am aware the Enhanced Disclosure is done by a different organisation than the one that does the Police Certificate. My guess, and it is only that, is they are not the same. For the sake of £10 I'd request a certificate to be on the safe side. That will avoid any misunderstanding at the Embassy on the day of interview.

United KingdomObtaining a conviction/court record

Hi.

My husband (UK) and I (US) have filed for the K3 visa and we are starting to gather things for the interview/packet 3.

I was wondering if anyone has obtained a 'court record.' (http://london.usemba...iv/docs169.html).

Basically my husband was taken to the police station a few years back for drunken/disorderly conduct and at some point he paid a fine for the arrest. He's obtained his police certificate already.

If anyone could share their experience on how to obtain the court record or if it is needed for an arrest where a fine was paid we would really appreciate the informatin/help.

Thanks so much!!!

Kristina and Phillip

Did he actually appear in a Court or was it paid by way of a fixed penalty notice. If he appeared in a Court he needs to contact that Court and ask them how he obtains a copy of the record from them.

If it was a fixed penalty he would need to apply to the place he sent the payment to. If he doesn't know he should contact the police station that dealt with his arrest and ask them for the address where the fixed penalty fines are administered, and apply there for a copy of the record.

United KingdomI-864 and Interview

There was an old version of the I-864 which needed to be notorized. And there's a new version, which is easier, and you don't need it notorized, you just to sign it. The newer version also only requires the tax return from the most recent year, wheras the old one requires tax returns from the last three years.

Unfortunately the Embassy sent the old form which needs to be notarized. As my wife is in the UK, we both live here, I assumed she would sign it at the Embassy on the day as there is a notary there. But I wondered if this assumption is correct.

United KingdomCheap fare London/St.Louis

Hi,

I thought I'd post here to find some cheap flights from London ( preferably LGW )
to St. Louis,( or anywhere in the US with connecting flight ).
My fiance would be coming from Sierra Leone W. Africa to London and then US, direct flights
from Sierra Leone would be too expensive from what I can see.
I would really appreciate if someone knows a cheap flight for December or Januay,
maybe that you have traveled yourself with to St. Louis.

Thanks !

Some places to start

www.airlinenetwork.co.uk

www.opodo.com

www.thinkflights.com

www.dialaflight.com

www.travelocity.co.uk

Personally I prefer airline network, the retail arm of the UK biggest ticket consolidator and opodo which is owned by several major airlines.

Also look on the airlines own web sites. They quite often keep the special deals to sell there these days.

One thing to bear in mind. Airlines quite often require the card holder to be one of the passengers, and/or for the card used to purchase the ticket to be presented at check in. Look closely to see if this condition is there when booking online, or ask if book personally. At Heathrow I have seen people refused travel because the card cannot be produced.

United KingdomWedding Dresses On Planes

OK, i have to take my amazing wedding dress with me when i fly next week. Virgin helpfully tell me it is up to the disgresion of the people on the desk on the day as to whether i will be able to carry it on board in its cover to hang up for the journey or if i will have to scrunch it into my suitcase NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WAY!!!!

I was wondering if anyone has tried this or has any thoughts on if they will let me? I am hoping for a simpathetic person. My back up plan is to take minimal carryon and a box the exact largest size that hand luggage can be and if they say no, to roll it carefully inside, carry it on and try not to cry.

Any thoughts?

I wonder if you have considered the current security restrictions concerning carry on items. It might be worth checking with the airport you are flying from to see if they will allow it through security even if the airline do not insist on it being checked in.

United KingdomName change and UK passport

Actually, it is the same. We'll be married in Iowa and both the man and the woman are allowed to legally change their name at the marriage ceremony. There's a place on the marriage license application for just this, one for the bride and one for the groom.

It might not be the same in the UK. It can be what it is in Iowa but a British passport is a British government document and issued under UK law. Likewise the UK Embassy is bound by UK law, it would be best to call the passport section at the Embassy in Washington and ask them.

Unless someone posts on here who has done exactly what you propose any answer is just a guess. The official answer is all that counts

I dont know about that.

there is a thread that went into deatail a while back. You might want to "search" for it.

They said 6 weeks for somthing to the west coast and it took 10-12. So, if your sure it is nothing you are going to miss, plan early.

Why would it be a bad idea to ship before hand?

My husband is moving this weekend from his apartment and staying with friends for a bit. Rather than putting things in storage, I thought it best to just ship it to me as we will be living at my place.

Will search for the thread, thanks!

I spoke to my shippers today. They require a copy of the visa to go with the US Customs paperwork.

United KingdomStill no word from the embassy

Our package 3 was signed for at the London Embasssy on October 23rd, over three weeks ago. We still haven't received our package 4 with an interview date. Should we be worried?

We've seen some other K3 applicant couples on here who say they sent the package 3 in around the same time as us or even later and they've already had their interview!

Is it worth ringing the Visa Helpline (09042-450-100), or is that a waste of time and money? We've tried calling the NVC, but they told us that we needed to speak to the embassy itself.

Any help/advice/encouragement gratefully received....

PS - The one thing that may be delaying us is that we previously lived in the Netherlands, which for some reason is one of the countries that the Embassy has to apply directly for my police record. Has anyone any experience of this and would it delay our application this much?

I would think police record is the hold up. They are not going to schedule the interview until it is received, in much the same way an interview isn't scheduled until you indicate on the check list you have the UK one.

Perhaps it is worth asking in the group that cover Holland if people there can give an idea as to how long it normally takes for the police certificate.

United KingdomApplicant's Own Funds

Ok I've come to the UK forum because I've heard a lot of UK applicants do this.

For the sake of expediancy I would like to show financial support using my own funds rather than getting my fiance's I-134.

Is there a form / template to use for this?

I will have about US$180K to take with me when the house is sold but I do not intend to work when I arrive. Will that get me over the line?

I would really like to book my interview appointment ASAP so any comments / advice appreciated :)

When we filled out the financial support form, there was an instruction on it just to submit any assets of the non US citizen in the same format as laid out on the form. I did just that on a blank sheet of paper and took the documents to prove those assets with me. There was no problems with that at all, in fact in the time between submitting the forms and being called back to be told I had the visa they barley had time to look at the prove I provided just the amounts.

The immigration officer at POE did go through the bundle of papers to make sure they were all there but he didn't look at the details either.

So judging on my experience you will have no problems.

United KingdomAnother "is this police report ok" question

Ok, our interview on on the 14th of December. I ticked the thing saying we had the police report, because we had one from Central Scotland police (he's lived in Scotland all his life). But then on here some people have been saying we'd need one from New Scotland Yard too.

So we went ahead and ordered one to be on the safe side. And thankfully it came through today. (they received our application on Nov 8th, so that was less than 40 days)

It has come from New Scotland Yard in London. In the subject acess form we filled out, there were two boxes to tick, one for Scotland and one for England and wales. First time we ticked the one for Scotland, and got a response within a week from the Scottish headquarters saying there's nothing on the Scottish computers about him. Second time we only ticked the england and wales one and it was sent to New Scotland Yard....and we got this one back.

Only thing I'm worried about is it says "In reply to your request for information held about you by the central scotland police" bla bla bla

Now later on it does say "there is no information help about you in the personal record category of the police national computer. That surely means they looked at the national computers and not just Scotland right?

What do you think?

The information comes from the Police National Computer. The same information is available to ALL police forces in England, Scotland and Wales and whichever one you apply to for the police certificate it will contain identical information when it is received.

The only difference is if someone has lived in Northern Ireland you need to apply to the PSNI as there criminal records are separate to the mainland UK.

So...my hubby still hasn't received his SSN. We are going this week to apply for it at the office. We were waiting to close his NatWest account until I can add him to my accounts. The problem is, even though he changed his address with them, they keep cutting off his bank card. When he calls customer service, they tell him that they keep receiving the statements back. They also tell him that he needs to provide them with the change of address in writing....ARRRGG! He has! They do reactivate it, but it happens again around statement time. In any event, we are sending it again. I don't really know what my point is, but I'm curious if this has happened to anyone else?

Also, what documentation do we neeed to take to the Social Security office?

This will be tempting fate I know, but I have not had any trouble at all with my NatWest account. I am keeping it open becaue my police pension will be paid into it each month.

I had my K3 interview today and it went very smoothly. I took a tip from someone on the forum and got there for 8.30am, even though my interview time was 10am. I got in straightaway and was out the building by 9.40am. This was much better than hanging around in the morning getting even more worked up. I was organised with my paperwork which helped, so I just handed it all over in one go. Then when I went to have the interview, it was over in 2 minutes. The lady asked me how long I had been married and had I ever lived in the US. That was it.

Thanks for all the forum help
