Just received my mail 5 minutes ago and I got a letter from USCIS for Biometrics!!!!! My guess is that somebody new sent the wrong email format. It freaked me out the whole weekend!!! crying.gif
Appointment is on the 09/17/2009 at USCIS St. Albans, VT


Mine came today and is the biometrics appoinment as well. (09/22/09)

can't imagine what for... they got everything on earth... 3 years of tax transcripts, house lease, car papers, TWO kids birth certif., marriage certif., hubby's naturalization certif., joint bank statements, copies of my GC... everything is labeled and my A# is on everything.
so disappointed... was hoping this would be a fast and easy process. now everything is pushed back almost 2 weeks (while my case was just sitting and no one was working on it) and then however long it takes me to get them what they are asking for.
praying that whatever it is is something simple to get and send, and they get cracking on the case again asap. its been so many years of paperwork and money and time and energy spent, i am just ready to finish and never think of uscis ever again.


I had a similar e-mail to on Sept 3. I triple checked everything was in the packet I sent and know it was all there and apart from the three years tax transcripts was copies of the same documents we used for my visa application.

Makes the biometrics letter seem a hopeful outcome.

Yes if they ask for 2 they want just 2.

So for the question name 3 of the original 13 colonies I have memorized North & South Carolina and New York that is all they require. If the question asks for more than one answer pick those which are easy to remember. In the example North and South or two States with almost the same name and New York begins with an N so it ties it to North as well as being somewhere well know to help me remember.

Don't get too intense about this remember there is plenty of leeway if you get an answer or two wrong.

I urge you to let this go. I would really advise you not to dig into this at al. Tell any Senator or official what you did and you may get exactly what you are trying to avoid. If -- from any side -- USCIS gets word that you voted in a Presidential Election (sorry or not), your Green Card will be revoked. I am 100% sure of that.

The assumption is it does, but in fact there is no way of knowing as it is impossible to know what difference going on the assigned dated would have made. If you walk in 2 weeks before your appointment does it speed the process up by 2 weeks, no-way to know for sure.

If it is convenient to do an early walk in, there is nothing to lose.

On her GC is a date which says "Resident Since" she may apply 3 years minus 90 days from that date providing on the day she applies you have been married for 3 years. If you haven't been married 3 years on that date you have to wait until you have.

The residence in State is 3 months before applying but if she is back home on vacation her US residence in State still continues.

I see they have started the patrols again just your side of the State border to catch Washington residents registering their cars to addresses in Oregon. Two last week got tickets for minor infringements, the tickets were $1100 each.

There is nothing to stop you traveling except the need to attend the appointment for your biometrics and the interview. Once you have the letter for the biometrics appointment most places will let you do a walk-in early.If they send you an appointment for your interview and you do not attend you run the risk of them canceling your citizenship application and having to apply again and pay another fee.

Why not wait until you are back in the US to apply or post the application just as you go on the trip. Nothing will happen in the first 10 days so it would be being processed while you are away.

All I could find was Twin City newspaper articles on how slow the oath ceremony was, as long as nine months! Some reasons is they wanted to have a big party with at least 3,500 applicants, others, couldn't find a free judge or a place to hold it in. That is when I decided to contact my senator, not even sure why we have to go to Bloomington when Milwaukee is closer, but even people only living 65 miles north of Milwaukee were forced to go to Bloomington. Bloomington is a small town about 13 miles south of St. Paul and the people that live in Bloomington vehemently object to the USCIS office calling it St. Paul as do the people living in Minneapolis.

But only about 8 blocks from the Mall of America where I can buy a cinnamon roll and a cup of coffee for only nine dollars, other bargains there as well

I found out everything about my local office by searching online and not at VJ. Quite often a local immigration lawyer will have a discussion board or information on their web site and you can glean a lot of information from that.

No you don't have too, if your office did that it is an exception. In fact that is the first time I've ever heard anyone say that. The oath you normally take at the interview concerns answering questions at the interview truthfully.

No way in a month of Sundays is that going to fly, otherwise we would all be knocking out oath letters on our computers.

Hello VJ friends........ i know this may be asked a lot of times before..but i am trying to fill my N-400....i am filing after marriage to us citizen and 3 yrs being LPR On question 7 a , How many days you spend outside the USA in last 5 years ?. { i came to usa 3 and 1/2 years ago....) it says last five years...and not after becoming LPR like in question 7c i searched the net and ....some are saying scratch 5 in the form and write 3 yrs.......and answer Q for the 3 yrs..... Can you all help me please Kindly reply only if you already became a citizen or passed the interview...what have you done on your application.


I changed all questions with the 5 years to 3 as I was applying on a 3 year basis and answered that way. Had no problems at all not even mentioned in the interview.

It seems to me the the bold type "ever" on the "have you commited a crime" questions would mean to include your whole life...but I just want to make sure. I mean...we went through the whole waiver process because of the car accident (no alcohol, unsafe pedestrien crossing, but bad lawyer, bad system = manslaughter conviction) and it would be great if we could consider that a closed chapter. It was more than 10 years ago now... And the thing is, they ask for court certified copies, which we have, but we only have ONE copy and it's all in Spanish. Would we have to get a certified translation?

How can they take your citizenship away before you have even got it. It's like saying someone stole my new car which I was going to buy from the dealer next month. I don't know how anyone can lose something they haven't got and never had. You do not become a citizen until you take the oath, up until that point you are a PR. The may be able to strip, there is no may be able about it they can do so. The only time they can take your citizenship away is after you have become one. Up until then they just do not let you even become one.

Then your understanding is wrong. If you perjure yourself when making the application your citizenship can be taken away. If you commit serious crimes against the United States it can be taken away.

One very notable case just recently was the 90ish year old man who had been a US citizen by naturalization for many years. He failed to disclose he had been a member of the Nazi party in Germany, where he was wanted for war crimes. He was stripped of his US citizenship and deported to Germany. He died this year before standing trail.

He hasn't obtained his citizenship yet because he hasn't been sworn in as a citizen. There are circumstances in which citizenship can be taken away once granted. It doesn't matter if what he did was a felony or a misdemeanor, the question he has to answer is did he commit a crime between the interview and day of the oath ceremony. Once he says yes, which he must, his application becomes pending while the circumstances are reviewed.

The advice about how to sign isn't consistent between USCIS offices. While some offices require it to be signed as stated on that web site, just as many if not more, tell you the signature on the certificate must match the signature on the photographs you signed at the interview, one of which is stuck onto the certificate. The signature on my certificate only has my middle initial and it is totally acceptable to do it that way.
