US Citizenship General DiscussionGoverment shutdown = All inmigration services in stand by?!

Hi there,

I have been reading many articles about the impact of a Government Shutdown and how it can affect USCIS and looks like it will have little impact if any, according to the following statement:

If the Goverment shuts down good they are spending way to much ......, but it is good to hear it won't affect Visas ;-)
" USCIS has announced that, because it is funded by filing fees, it should remain open during a government shutdown. The operations of the four Service Centers should remain largely unaffected. Local USCIS District Offices should also remain open".

Thank you so much
Will I have to send off my current passport, as this is registered in my original name in U.K.
Thanks

You can also keep both names . It's only a matter of adding one and deciding which will be the surname.. Which helps in the future on documents

I would wait until you are sure they have the package from NVC. A few weeks after our NVC approval, Rin had not received packet 3. So, I e-mailed the embassy regarding packet 3, they replied it had been mailed, so I returned the one we had completed using the downloaded files (I was in BKK at the time). The packet 3 they mailed to Rin's address never arrived!

John

Thanks, that's good to know! I don't have much faith in it getting to her since I had to change it by letter on the I-129F

Hi all, I sent my fience all of the documents she would need for her packet 3. I mailed them to her with her christmas present to save a little cash. I guess I didnt explain to her that she should wait to mail them in because she filled out what she needed to copyed her birth certificate and passport and mailed them to the embassy in Bangkok. She was worryed because the Thai post office will be closed the rest of the week for New years so she didnt want to have to wait. Now the problem is I just called the NVC yesterday and they have not yet mailed my I-129f to the embassy so what will happen if they get the documents from us before NVC? I would hope they would just keep them if not maaybe they will send them back to us but I hope they dont trash them. What should I do now? Should I get new copys ready to send out? I was thinking of emailing the embassy but someone said they never reply. should I not worry about this. thanks for all the help

It could be a problem if she didn't have the NVC case number on it, I'm not sure what they do in that case. I'd send an email to the embassy (and the consulate as well) and let them know. I would get new copies just in case to cover your bases.

From the embassy info:

Note: Just to prevent any confusion, "Optional Form 171" in this packet talks about having DS-230 PART 2 completed. If you are applying for a K1 Fiance visa you do not need this and it should not have been included in your packet if it was. If you fill in forms and print online, discard PART 2 of DS-230.

Thanks, but what does EMS stand for? Why not FedEx or DSL?

Does FedEx do domestic deliveries within Thailand? I guess I don't know. EMS stand for "Express Mail Service" It's run separately from standard thai post delivery. Sort of like a Premium delivery service. I think they can get most anywhere in the country within a day, or at the most two.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMy fiancee's Passport

She should tell them exactly what she said about Thais going across the Lao border
in bold above. That should not merit an alarm or a challenge. My wife has been
to Laos once or twice, but I haven't looked at the stamps in her passport.
They didn't comment on anything in her passport. She also went to China & Hong Kong.

This I believe will be a very marginal issue, one not eve touched in the interview.
The US consulate is only interested in attempts to get US visas and the history
& consequences of having traveled to the US on previous occasions.

If she had hundreds of stamps for Laos in her passport that might merit a question,
but not what you've described.

Yeah I'm not sure what the problem would be, that she visited Lao? I think Thai's can cross the boarder with just the national Id card anyway. If she had stamps from say, Yemen, that might raise some eyebrows. They don't stamp your passport on arrival back in the US unless you stay somewhere an extended period of time, i'm not sure why it would be any different there.

An additional note to Thailand VJers, the medical personnel at BNH utilize the 2007 forms and procedures. The fiance brought copies of the forms for them and was told that they don't use those. Also insisted on Varicella vaccination when those appear to no longer be required.

Ok, so this is a bit of a bump, but she got MMR, dTP, and varicella for about 3000 baht today around 2000 for examination. I think these were the "required" ones for the embassy.

QUOTE (ThaitoUSA @ Oct 13 2009, 07:22 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Though generally not required for K1, vaccination is mandatory for Bangkok consulate. My fiancée had to bring her medical exam results including vaccination record to her interview. It is fine to get them done early. For those that come in a series over several months it is only necessary to begin them for the visa. The remainder can be completed in USA. She can get a blood test to determine which she already has. Some, such as HPV, are age specific.

They require the entire series to be completed before the interview? That seems a bit extreme. If so thanks for the heads up, i'll have her go and speak to the hospital asap.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPacket 3

I just have a couple concerns about doing a Change of Address. I admit I should read up more on what exactly a Change of Address truly means. One of my assumptions is that they use the address during the background check. So my concern is that doing a Change of Address will cause a delay in the background checks longer than 3 days. My other concern is that her official address has not changed. My concern is that because her name is on a title of a house and all of her official documents give the address of her house, that it will cause issues at the embassy because there was a Change of Address that says she lives somewhere else.

Yeah, I agree with rsn ( I'm assuming your changing the address of the beneficiary?) You can't do this with AR-11 unless it's a stateside address, you have to write a letter to have them change it on the hard copy. It didn't effect my time for background check, but it's much easier just to change it with the embassy. I changed mine with USCIS with a letter because i was paranoid they would send it to Australia.

But it doesn't matter, because you won't get Packet 3 in the mail anyway (at least we didn't, or many others on here) , just download it from the website after ensuring that they have received your file from NVC.

First don't wait for Packet 3 to come in the mail, go ahead and print it off the website and send it in when you have the required documents. Many people, me included never even received it.

Send in copies of everything requested on the checklist and bring originals. I think I sent in the original receipt for the payment with the copies of the documents. It should say in the instructions to only send in copies and bring the originals of everything copied you send in.

I second RSN, don't wait. Ours never came, until we already had the visa and were stateside, they had sent it to my address in the US!

I just contacted the embassy (make sure you put the NVC # in the email, you can call NVC to get this number) I double checked that they had received the application and then sent in the Packet three filled out from forms available on the website. You can then make payment at the post office, and as ning said, purchase a pin if you have questions to contact someone directly at the embassy. They then email her with "Packet Four" which is a list of things to bring to the interview and an appointment date and time.

I know my wife got the checklist in Thai from some other source? perhaps a thai language message board. I would double check this stuff, hers was outdated and some of the instructions were a bit off from the translation.

You're going to have to give the board more information. Is there a specific question? Try the regional forum if it is something specific to Indonesia or Singapore. Also, I found emailing the embassy to work quite well, just include your case # in the subject and body of the email for them to help you.

There is no US embassy in the US. There's Department of State missions to the UN and I believe, the Organization of American States.

However, the purpose an embassy serves is to be a diplomatic mission in a foreign state. Therefore, embassies only exist abroad.

Yes, follow the newer one. Make sure you send only copies when they request copies. Bring the originals to the interview. Make copies of everything just in case.

As ning said they go over all this before your interview and get a really good idea of any issues your case might have. If this is not all there they will not schedule it.

"Can not call the immigration unit at the embassy because their listed number is a general embassy number and they will not transfer us to the IU. The only way to contact them is via email."

This is not at all true. Have her purchase a PIN at the post office. She can then call them and speak with an actual person to get it straightened out. You may also be able to check on the website for the interview schedule if it has been updated since they posted it.

Did they not email either of you the interview details after the phone call? We never received anything via snail mail, I think it goes into a memory hole as soon as the mail leaves the embassy. I'd double check in your email and spam to make sure they didn't email you a copy you can print and bring with.

Assalaamu Alaikum,

My wife recently had her interview.... they handed her a pink paper (it doesnt say anything about AP) and took fingerprints. They said they will mail the passport after some processing... does this mean we are on AP?

Jazkallah Khair

Did they give her a white paper with the pink slip as well? Either they give you a paper with the information on where to contact AMEX or they give you a letter stating that your case requires further administrative processing.
If they took her fingerprints and said that they will mail the passport after some processing that leads me to believe she is on AP.

Hi all,

Does anyone in this forum know how long it takes to be issued a pakistani visa. Im going to pakistan in Sept to meet my fiancee. Still waiting on my passport. Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated

It took one of friends 6 weeks to get his visa and he did not have any Pakistani Origin.

Khurram

They gave My wife a list of locations where the passport can be picked up, and also they gave her a pink paper. I was told that the interview said they will be sending her the passport, but they didnt give a time frame.

If the pink paper is just a token and/or amex locations and no other paper was given to her stating anything to the effect that your case requires further processing, then your wifes visa has been approved and she should get her passport soon (1-2 weeks?). CONGRATS.

Out of curiousity does everyone get fingerprinted at the interview?

Jazakallah Khair!

I beleive from reading the pasts posts that if all fingers prints (10) are taken then you will get AP, but 2 or 4 (not sure) print is part of the process. Can somebody with past experience please answer this.
