IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresmy mail sent to supervisor???
I am not an expert on this, but my case was sent for supervisor review. It took 2 weeks.
Also, when we had and RFE, I called 3 times that day to finally sort out what document I needed to send. Don't hesitate to call and ask about your case!
If you want more info, join us on the May NVC thread (sorry, I don't know how to attach it).

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCR1 after failed K1
Thanks for the replies!
We will be ready for whatever they throw at us and I plan to take a mountain of evidence.
Frome the last 2 trips (one was almost 2 months lomg), we have almost 3000 pics. I put some of our faves into a small scrapbook and I am taking the index prints from all the CDs. I also have all our phone bills, chat logs, cards, letters, and records of all the texts we send (some days we send 100 back and forth!).

I don't care what they ask because this is a real relationship (we talk at least 2 hours EVERY day) and we will answer anything. I just wondered how this situation with the withdrawn K1 is usually handled.

Thanks again!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCR1 after failed K1
We applied for the K1 first. After a terrible interview experience, our case was sent back to USCIS.

I withdrew that petition and we married in October. Now we are almost finished at NVC (expect CC any day this week) and are preparing for the interview.

This time, I will be with my husband.

Just wondering... will the CO bring up anything about the old K1?
The big thing they used against us was our age difference (I am 14 years older than he is). I had also only met him once. Now I have made 2 long visits and will be at the interview.

Trying to get everything in order and wanted to know what others had experienced in this situation.
THANKS!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresYay SIF..

Yay we finally got a SIF..

I was just wondering when do we get a CASE COMPLETE? Do i call the NVC or does the AVR change to case complete?

When do i know my stuff is on the way to the consulate in Frankfurt?

Where can i find the medical requirements and everything again? I have found the list for the docs but i was going to get blood test and make sure my vaccinations are up to date at my Dr. here as i can get it all done for free before i go pay for my medical and find out my vaccinations arent up to date or something.

Maybe I can help some.
I called NVC right after I got SIF because I wanted to hear a human say "case complete".
It took a few days for the AVR to update.

And from what I have read here, your packet doesn't go to the embassy until the interview date is given.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresdid anyone get the e-mail for an interview for july??
The advantages to August are airfare drops some and it may be easier to get time off work. But I didn't want to be in Jordan during Ramadan (long story). And I didn't want to wait so long to see my husband again.
I am making myself sick worrying and stressing over this. I can't eat or sleep or concentrate on anything right now. I may be in the hospital by the time they schedule interviews in July.

I am so sick of waiting the stress is making me sick. I can't eat or sleep. If we don't get a date this week, I will probably be in the hospital before the 2nd week of July.
When I called last night, she told me I could call back today if I wanted to. But I don't know if I can handle hearing those words again.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresEmbassy question

I just discovered this sight and it has already been extremely helpful understanding the Visa process! Here is my question...I am a US citizen and recently married my husband while I was visiting him in Cyprus. We got married in a Mosque in Lemosos, Cyprus. Because we got married in Cyprus does my husband have to do the interview, etc at the Consulant in Cyprus? He is Jordanian and we would like to submit paperwork through the Consulant in Jordan as he and I will be meeting there to meet his family and travel, etc...any information would be very much appreciated!

Are you talking about DCF?
You have to live in Jordan at least 6 months (once I even read maybe a year) to file thru the embassy. Otherwise you go thru USCIS to file CR1.
And be prepared to wait as Jordan is backed up and busy. We have been waiting since May 11 for an interview date!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresYM archive and audio/video calls ?

Thanks for your reply anthonyddiggs1 ! Please let me know if it worked for you and how you did it.Good luck.

I couldn't find any way to show call length on YM or on MSN messenger. Fortunately, we talk every day and I saved them all and printed the opening page of each one. (of course, we had a bad K1 experience last year, so we are taking much more proof than we really need, just to be safe!)
I have chat logs from almost 2 years along with phone bills, cards, letters, receipts from gifts, logs of about 1500 texts a month (since he got a job with free texting LOL), 3000 pictures from 3 trips there and anything else I can find!

Do you think about the date of the interview? Date depends on what the crowd at your embassy where you will have an interview.
They usually say for a month will be an interview when the case is CC! Or you can call the embassy and moved earlier date if they have free term . I will do it :)

If they won't answer my congressman's office requesting our date, I KNOW they won't answer me if I ask for earlier!

Waiting is the worst and it NEVER ends!
We spent 5 months at USCIS when most went thru in 3.
Then it took them 2 weeks to open my DS230 packet at NVC after it arrived. Then an RFE for something that it wasn't even clear they needed to begin with.
And now, CC since May 11.
My congressman's office is involved now and NVC and the embassy won't even respond to THEIR email requesting our date!

I need to update my affidavit of support at the interview. But WalMart has a new policy that they will only write a verification of employment if I take them something in writing that I need it.
I am working more hours now than I was in March when we filed AOS, and I have check stubs, but I think this letter will help.

Is there any place I can print something to show I need this letter? Thanks!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHow much is your phone bill?

Any body know any decent ways to call cuba? My bills go as high as 800 dollars a month. It's rough when they charge you a dollar a minute no matter what. And phone cards are the worst. :(

I just looked at the one I use (pingo.com). It's .75 or .85 a min.
They don't charge any connection fees but you will pay $1.00 a month to use it It's not bad compared to some I looked at when I started buying them.
ally and mohFemaleJordan2010-08-03 22:45:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHow much is your phone bill?

I have been paying about $420.00 a month in phone card bills since June 2008 (and that's with a 16% discount from the online calling card provider!)
I use Zaptel.com and it costs me about 11.5 cents a minute to call a Lagos mobile phone (which is what my husband has).
We talk an average of 2 hours a day during the week and about 2.5 to 3 hours a day on weekends (we have a lot to talk about! lol)

I've made 5 trips to Nigeria so far since November 2008 (I plan to fly there again for the interview). Averaged out airfare cost per trip is about $1200.00 for a round trip ticket. Hotel stays and food - an additional 1200.00 for each trip (I paid). And also I am financing his flight here when he gets his visa (God willing).

Not to mention the money I've spent on fees and applications for 2 petitions (we had previously applied for and were denied the K1 visa) and also money for a crooked lawyer the first time around (16,000 dollars!).

I try not to think about it too much and look at it as an investment that will hopefully pay off in the long run.

So now you can all feel a bit better about what ya'll are spending....just think of me when you're feeling stretched!

I can really relate to what you are saying!
We filed a K1 first too with a really bad attorney. I paid him over $3000 before I found VJ and fired him. I only made one trip during the K1 process, but the trip for the interview this month will be my 3rd since we changed to CR1 in Oct 2009. My flights are about $1200 each, too. And this is the 4th trip total! And praying we FIANLLY get to buy his ticket this time ( which I have priced already and its almost as much as my round trip!).
We rent an apartment when I am there that runs about $100-$150 a week (depending on season). I have stayed a total of 11 weeks so far and the interview trip will add 4 more to that.

WOW! We have spent a lot!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHow much is your phone bill?
OK this seems like a thread for me.
At first, 2 years ago, we online typed and used cams online. I called him ALOT and my landline and cell bills were totaling about $1000 a month.
Then we started using voice chats on yahoo and msn messengers... totally free!
Of course we still use the phone some and I buy cards online at pingo.com. Jordan is 12 cents a min (compared to 70 on my home or cell phone). I can use the cards with the access number on my home or cell phone now. I spend less than $50 a month now because we stay online so much. We even leave the messenger calls open all night and sleep together almost every night! We chat online at least 2 hours every morning and about an hour every night before we sleep.
During the day, we text. His is free from his employer. I use an AT&T gophone for pay as you go service and buy 1000 texts at time for $9.99. Sometimes I buy 3000 a month, but cheaper than .20 a text!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWAITING FOR NOA2!!!

When I spoke w/USCIS they were telling me that it's the "received date" that's important - as soon as it becomes 5 months - in your case 03/12, if your timeline is accurate, then you can start inquiring & getting your calls escalated.

Our I-130 became 5 months old on 3/2, I called that day & the call was escalated. I don't know if it was the call asking to be expedited, the call from my Congressional Rep or the Infopass, but we were approved by 3/5.

Thanks for the information! My received date is Oct 14. I will be on the phone Monday as well as keeping my Infopass appt on Tuesday!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 and IR-1

I got this from an international matchmaker.

"Some applicants mistakenly have the belief that by getting married, that they automatically prove their relationship is bone fide. This is not the case. An UNmarried couple hoping to bring a fiancee to the USA, and promising to marry after arrival in the USA, is viewed the same way as a Married couple who has just recently married and applied for a spousal visa.

You will be speaking with the same consular officers when you attend your interview for the CR-1 visa."

That is interesting. I had never heard that. As you have probably seen on here, most people advise you to marry if a K1 fails and apply for the CR1.
Maybe the matchmaker meant if you are going to file for one or the other soon after meeting and on VJ if the couples marry after a bad K1 experience, they already have a long history together.

But I will keep it in mind! :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 and IR-1

Our situation is a bit different. I didn't cancell my K-1. It became invalid when we got married. I hope we don't have to go through what you went through.

Did they ask you why you cancelled your K-1? What kind of questions did they asked you?

Sounds like they're jerking you around. I hear that AP is not good. They're digging for a reason to deny because they're suspicious.

I know that they view a couple that's recently married filing for IR-1/CR-1 the same as an unmarried couple filing for a K-1. I know that's not very encouraging, but maybe it'll help you prepare.

As for the cancel of the K1, I sent a letter and called to do it, but when I got back from marrying him, I found out they never processed it. So they put it thru again and told me the marriage made it null and void any way.
It was never mentioned at this interview and the questions from the CO were the basic ones... how we met, what he would work when here, nothing unusual.

MOST (not all) AP is just deeper background checks and they go thru but sometimes it takes a year or more. I think any questions they had about the relationship were answered when they had us alone.

Honestly I have been on VJ for almost 2 years and I have never read they view newly married couples the same as K1s. Can I ask where you found that?
Any way if they ever ask for more evidence I have it. Not many pics from my very 1st visit because I went not knowing if I was going to stay there with him or come back here. We had no idea we would file fro his visa to come here and need all this "proof". In the last year with my 3 trips (one was 7 weeks and the other 2 were 3 weeks each), I have about 5000 pics. We send 100 texts or more every day. We even keep our calls open online and sleep together every night. We truly love each other and I will prove it if I have to!
And luckily we BOTH saved every online chat for more than 2 years now, so I can print all those if they really want them... LOL!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 and IR-1
In Sept 2009, My husband interviewed for a K1. He was told it would go back to USCIS for further review because they thought he was marrying me for a visa.
I cancelled the K1 and flew to Jordan Oct 1 and we married Oct 6, 2009. We immediately filed the CR1.
It took us 5 months to get thru USCIS when most couples went thru in 3. At NVC we got an RFE (my mistake on a paper) but it was easy to fix. We got CC on May 11, but didn't get an interview date for weeks!
When we went for the interview on Aug 24, it was not a good experience. Seems they still had some doubts about us. We interviewed with the CO and were told we were getting AP and to wait in the lobby. Then a DOS guy and Homeland Security criminal investigator interviewed me alone and then my husband alone. Those 2 guys were NOT nice!

We left with mandatory AP and a 2nd CO told us the file was going to Washington DC. We think it's in further background checks, but I can't get a straight answer on that.
Although they had doubts about us, the 2nd CO told us our paperwork was perfect. I flew to Jordan with about 35 pounds of additional evidence... which they never asked for a piece of! I had all our chats, phone logs, text records and tons of pics from the 3 trips I had made before along with new ones from that visit.

You just never know what they are going to do!
We are now trying to survive this AP HELL!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAGE DIFFERENCE

Thank you SO much for your words of encouragement. I cannot believe you allowed them to scream at you this way.
I would have gone straight through the ceiling. I'm a very very nice woman, but if someone pulls this nonsense on
me, I am a tiger. In fact, my husband calls me a tiger!!! The judge in Morocco refused to approve a marriage for us,
and I confronted him in the court house. My husband said he was shocked when I got up and told the judge I wanted
to talk to him. When I was through, obviously he gave us permission. I called the USCIS today and complained and
had a very rude guy at first and then asked for his supervisor who was lovely and then went on to tell me her own mom
married a man 20 years her junior. I am kicking up a lot of dust here. How did they ever have the nerve to talk to you,
a citizen of the USA, in such a manner? That is so horrible. I'm sitting here stunned. You look like a very happy
couple and I wish you every happiness. Best to you!

Those guys did make me very angry! So angry I left the room in tears when they were done and told my husband not to talk to them that we would just live in Jordan. Of course they told him if he didn't go with them, our petition would be void.
I finally looked at one of them when he said "you are not Muslim" and said "I may not be today but tomorrow I may be!"
As for kids, my husband never wanted kids and even refers to most of them as monkeys.... LOL! (And yes I told them that he had said that, too... LOL)
They told both of us they would be here to arrest us in 2 years when he had his permanent green card and filed for divorce. I told them to come on and try... we are happy together and still will be in 2 years.
It was an experience to say the least and one I hope we never have to go through again.
I think what angered me most was that they had so much doubt about our relationship, but still did not ask for a single phone log, picture, chat log or anything.

But in the end, we are together. And I think this journey and all the struggles we went through to be together have only made us stronger and closer as a couple.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAGE DIFFERENCE
When my husband and I first applied for a K1 in 2009, we were returned to USCIS because of the age difference and the CO did not look at ONE piece of proof of the relationship.
A month later, I was in Jordan and we married and filed a CR1.
When we interviewed almost a year later, they still didn't look at anything we took as proof (and I had about 35 pounds of papers and pictures).
We were interviewed together and then separately by a criminal investigator from homeland security and a man for DOS. They treated us like criminals! They were basically screaming at me "you are not Muslim" and "you can't give him sons".
It was awful! We got AP for over 3 months and he finally got his visa and got here on Dec 15, 2010.

Yes an age difference is a big RED FLAG! But hang in there and hope for the best but expect the worst. You CAN win this battle!

Hello all, i am new to this site and trying to find out as much information as possible before my fiance and i start the K1 visa process in June. Now, did you all go with a lawyer or have you done this process on your own? Looking over it i think i could do it alone but just wanted to get views on what to do, id really rather save the money and spend it on the visa than pay a lawyer.

After I found this site, I decided to fire my attorney!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAge Difference Red Flags?

I've wondered this question myself; not to mention my fiance in India questioning it also. He is in India and in his 20s and I am American and age 40. I can still bear children and plan to with him.

I am 40. My husband is 26.

We first applied for the K1. At his interview, the CO told him I was too old for him and sent our case back to uscis in Sept 09. I came to Jordan less than a month later and we got married and started the CR1 process. I lived here about 2 months... returned to the US, and I am now visiting again for 3 weeks.

It's crazy ... all this waiting. And I may end up having to move here permanently to be with him. But, we truly love each other, and we want to try to be together in the US first because I have children there.
Only time will tell...........

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAGE DIFFERENCE
I am 14 years older than my hubby.
We applied for a K1 and it was returned to USCIS after a horrible interview.
I now know I should have gone with him, but it was hard because of work and other things here. We married in October in Jordan about a month after the bad experience. I KNOW age is what the CO held against us, although the 221g doesn't say that. It was in the things she said to him.

Now, I have made 2 more trips there (one 45 days, one 16 days) and I will be at the interview. I have printed the first page of EVERY conversation we've had online since the day we met (and we talk every day). I also have all my phone bills and evidence of the numerous text messages we send every day (averages about 60 a day, sometimes more). We also have about 3000 pictures now from my time in Jordan with him. I will take every piece of paper I have to take to prove we are real. But what I really hope is that the CO can LOOK at us and see how we feel. Our friends and family say it's clear in our pics and when we are together... so I hope the CO sees it too.
