K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureswhat if NOA2 got lost
Sorry...I meant to type "NVC letter"....if I understand the process right, after approval, one will get NOA2, then a letter from NVC with a case number saying that the case is forwarded to beneficiary's consulate. Is that right?

What if I didn't receive the NVC letter...? Who can I call to ask about the number?

I tried to find the answer in the search engine...unsuccessfully.

What if the NVC letter stating my case number got lost and I couldn't remember it. Which number can I call to ask for my case number?

Thank you.

You've got friends, Andy. I've been waiting for approval for over 5 months now from VSC too!!! It's been 65 days after VSC received my RFE. I always get frustrated when I see VSC people get approved in less than a month.  I'm fully aware that my situation's unusual, but I can't do anything. Be patient (I've been trying to tell myself that too.....be patient...be patient). I hope you'll get an approval soon!!!

Thanks Luis&Laura, AndyMisiu, TomYu and aj1.

It might be like what you said, Tom. This would probably explain why VSC operators always avoided telling us what was going on with our case when my fiance tried to call... :P

Hi all,

Finally my case has been approved on Sep 26.....168 days since I filed the petition with VSC. I have no idea if VSC approved my case by itself or VA's congresswoman made an inquiry into my case. A congressional letter was sent to Congresswoman Drake's office on Sep 21. 5 days later, the case is approved. I'm so happy now.... :luv: :luv: :luv:

For you who are still waiting for approval, I wish you all luck and speedy approval. Just be patient and your day will come. Good luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhy does NOA1 have the A#???
I just want to know why some have an A# on their NOA1. So I can answer my friend and myself. Mine didn't.

What visa forms do you mean?
jamie_nainaFemaleThailand2007-03-12 18:09:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhy does NOA1 have the A#???

Had you friend ever applied for any other visa before? Tourist? Work? Anything?

We barely realized my fiance even had one - from when he had applied for/been granted a tourist visa.

Could be that it came up in the system whether you included it or not and gets added onto the NOA1.

I wouldn't sweat it either way - not much you can do about it.

My friend never applied for any visa to the US. before.

If one applies for a tourist visa, he/she will automatically be assigned for an A#???

I myself applied for US visa 4 times (2 J-1s and 2 B-2s), but I was never assigned any A#. I just got my A# from the approval notice for K-1 visa.

So why do some have an A# in their NOA1 and some in their NOA2??? :o

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhy does NOA1 have the A#???
My friend received her NOA1 a few weeks ago, but surprisingly, there's an A# in her NOA1!!!!
I thought that the A# should be in NOA2, shouldn't it?
I've never heard of anyone have the A# in their NOA1.
Why?

Thanks in advance.

Not too sure what you mean by appointment but, we went through TSC, on the 24th they told us it was being transferred and to call back on the 26th. We're not in the computer. We paid by Money order, and we can't track that. Hope that helps.

I guess I'm in the same situation as you are, TheGame32.

I mailed the application on Apr 11 to VSC, but until today Apr 27, I haven't received NOA1 yet. I called the National Customer Service Center, but she said that there was nothing she could do. I have to wait for 30+ days and call her again.

Where did you guys call and have the appointment?
Where do you check if your check has been cleared?

Thanks.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAge difference a problem?

In my opinion though.. she's too young right now to be married and make the decision... (I'm Thai.. so dont get me wrong) I think the mature level of Thai and American are very different in such young age..But I dont know her so.... I wish you the best though.. (F)

I completely agree with anya-D. I don't mean to offend you or criticize your decision. As I'm Thai too, I think getting married at the age of 17 is a little bit too young, since 17 year-old Thai and 17 year-old American are totally different in the degree of maturity. But, again, she may be more mature than her age.

One more option: it might be better if she applies for a tourist visa. Since she's 17-18 years old, this means that she's still either in high school or university, it's easy to apply for B1/B2 visa as being a student is a very strong evidence of ties that she'll definitely return to Thailand. Then she goes to visit you, so she'll get the picture of life in America. While she's in America, if she's positive with marriage, you can file the petition, then she'll return to Thailand which would be the same time of an interview with the embassy.

Good luck

Hey guys,

I've finished all of the paperwork for our interview on 30 January. I just have one question about the 'order of documents' that is listed in Packet 4. On that document, it requests copies + originals of the all the documents (birth cert/divorce/marriage/death/adoption/etc...) to be taken to the interview.

Up til now, I've only been sending them copies of these documents. Are they actually going to request to see the originals as well at the time of the interview?

Its not a problem either way...I'm just curious.

Peace to all,
MK

Yes, the originals and the copies are needed to be presented to the consular at Window 5. I recommend you to place the original on top of the copy....you know...like... BC, then the copy of BC...Thai ID, then the copy of it.....

I was told from the other visa webboard (in Thai) to have all documents in order like this....

set 1 (beneficiary’s doc)
1. DS-156
2. DS-156K (unsigned)
3. DS-157
4. Passport + a copy
5. Thai ID + a copy
6. census registration + a copy
7. birth certificate + a copy
8. name change certificate + a copy (if applicable)
9. divorce decree + a copy (if applicable)
10. medical examination
11. receipt of visa fee from post office

set 2 (petition’s doc)
1. I-134
2. the letter of employment
3. bank statement
4. most recent year tax return + W2
5. divorce decree + a copy (if applicable)

set 3 (proof of relationship)
- E- mail , E-Card
- photos
- a copy of plane tickets
- phone bills
- etc.

Good luck on your interview on 30th!!!!!

did anyone have their fiance sign any of the forms from packet 3 beside the checklist? Looks to me that all the forms will have to be sign infront of the cosular officer. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I signed DS-230 part I and returned it with the checklist. On the interview date, I signed DS-156 at home (I didn't see in the checklist that it's said "do not sign this form"). But I didn't sign DS-156k. I'm sure that it doesn't matter if you sign it or not before you hand the documents to the consulate. If not, the consulate will let you sign at the window anyway.

Also, one more quick question. Does the K1 require the DS-157? We are filling out the DS-156 and DS-156K, but not sure if the DS-157 is necessary. Again, confusion in the packet 4 "Order of Documents". It is not a K1 specific packet and the is an "or" in the list of documents. The DS-157 is posted on the Embassy site under K1 so I think so. Anyone know?

Yes, K-1 does require DS-157, apart from DS-156 with barcode and DS-156k.

Is anyone else having problems with the new online DS-156? When Pao goes to enter her address, part of it is "49/76" but the field wont accept slashes, so she had to write "49 slash 76", also in the business phone number field all she is entering is numbers, and it rejects the numbers and says "invalid entry- the business phone number field can only contain the following characters : A-Z, 0-9 $, ?, period, apostrophe, hyphen, and space" and numbers are all she is putting. It won't let her advance to the next page until she compltes the current page - what a nightmare!

I did as what Yodrak said. I typed in "123-4". I used hyphen instead of slash. As for the phone number, I put down "02-123-4567", no +66. I went for the interview today and all the documents went fine.

Bill,

I think it can happen like that. Maybe there are tons of cases at the IV Unit now. As of my case, I returned packet 3 on Oct 19. A security guard signed and received it on Oct 20, but the IV Unit received my packet 3 on Oct 25. I believe that by the end of this week, the IV Unit will definitely have your case in the system. It just takes some time. Don't worry.

The interview schedule has been updated today. Check it out at click here

Does anyone know how often they update the interview schedule? It's still showing dates as of Nov 21...

I think it's every other week of Tuesday. As I noticed, the Embassy updated it on Oct 24, Nov 7, and Nov 21. The next time would be Dec 5.

BTW, you should email the Embassy to find out the interview appointment. I always sent an email to them in the morning (Thai time)...around 8-10am. Half an hour later, I received an answer.

Your interview is also coming up soon and you got it a month after packet 3 came. I hope I can get things turned around as quickly as you have. Did you pick your interview date or do they simply assign it?

I wrote a cover letter and sent it along with other packet 3 documents. In the letter, I mentioned that I'd appreciate if I could be scheduled for an interview before Dec 5, since Dec 11 is my fiance's birthday. I'd like to be with him on his BD.

I also signed on DS-230 part 1 and the Embassy didn't say anything (yet). So I think it's fine if you sign it. Or if you don't, then the Consulate will let you sign at the interview.

Bill - The visa fee must be paid in prior to the interview appointment. And about the interview date, you can check here interview schedule The schedule has gone up to the middle of January already.

Hey matt,
Two quick questions about your timeline. I see that you sent the packet 3 in a day before you received it. Did you find that downloading all the materials from the embassy site was safe and accurate? Is this OK to do? I think I had read before that if you send stuff in too early, they will dispose of it. But I do know that BKK does have our case. We are just waiting for the packet to arrive in the mail.

You also got a real quick interview after you sent it in. The appointment list shows the latest interviews in January '07 right now. Did you get a chance to select an early interview or were you just lucky in getting something so quick?

I'm not Matt, but I did sent in the packet 3 which I downloaded from the embassy site. I kept the packet 3 from the embassy in my file. Didn't want to use it  So I think it is ok to download all the materials from the site. The reason they dispose it, I believe, is that the embassy doesn't have your case/data in the system yet, since it is too early to send, so they think your docs are not relevant to their unit.

Good luck, ultimoxo

I have had the nicest twist of fate. :)

About a week ago my boss asked if I could do some work for China for the remainder of the 2006 year, and that it would require travel to Shanghai. I told him that I already had vacations (to Thailand) scheduled for 17-30 November, and for the last two weeks of December also.

So, he asked if I wouldn't mind doing the China work on-line from Thailand (I'm a programmer), and then jump over to China between my two Thailand trips. I said 'OK'. So, I'll be with my beloved in Thailand for the last two weeks of November, then she is accompanying me to China for about 2-3 weeks, and then we're returning back to Thailand together for the last couple weeks of December. The additional good news is that since I'll be 'working' from Thailand, I don't have to count that time as vacation...so I rolled that vacation time to the first week+ of January.

So, I'll be with my sweetheart from tomorrow - early January...all of the holidays! What a tremendous and unexpected blessing.

Our Package 3 was mailed from the Embassy a couple days ago. We'll fill it out together as soon as I'm in Thailand this weekend. So, after our jumping from Thailand ->China->Thailand, it could be very close to her interview time (should be end of Januaryish <I'm guessing>).

Due to this nice twist of fate with my job, the time that AAm and I have to be apart is drawing near an end...

Its a HOLIDAY PRAYER COME TRUE!

Peace and Love to all,
Mark-N-Aam

Wow.....this is terrific, Mark. I feel a little bit envious  I haven't seen my fiance for about 6 months now. It's all IMBRA fault. Anyway, I'll be leaving Thailand on Dec 4......I wish it was tomorrow

Regarding the police cert. issue, I believe that your fiancee has to go there in person, because an officer has to take a photo of her and she has to give her fingerprints on a unique paper. I don't think Thai local stations have that.

1. A previous post referenced the online forms being incorrect. Assuming the doctor doesn't have the correct ones, Is the only way to get the correct forms by receiving packet 3?
--- There are 4 forms needed for the medical examination. In the K-1 packet 3 website of the Embassy, there are only 3 forms on the web, which are DS-3024, DS-3025 and DS-3026. The missing one is DS-2053 which can be found in K-3 packet 3 website 0f the Embassy. I think you can just download and print out the forms and take them to the hospital with you.

2. Would it be correct to say that the only thing she needs to have for the medical is the new case number from the NVC? Will the doctor require anything else from her? Anything in packet 3 needed?
--- She doesn't need a case number from NVC. Also, the case number is not printed on the forms. She need only the forms, her passport and one any-size photo. As well as money for the fee, as you said.

3. When the medical is finished, Do I pick up paperwork from the hospital and take it to the interview?
--- Correct!!
Do they send anything directly to the embassy or do I have to bring everything?
--- No...
Does she see all the results?
--- I think it's like what Anya said.

I second that you should wait until the packet 3 arrives. Everything will be told in the packet 3.

Yes, it's Thai regular postal service. Packet 3 reached me in 2 days (I'm in the outskirts of Bangkok).

If there is a delay, and AAm doesn't receive her Packet 3 while I'm in Thailand (17-30 Nov), then I plan on just downloading the forms and submitting them. Sounds like many people in this thread have had perfect success by doing that. I believe I know which forms to send etc...just have one question (for now):

Is this the right address to send the forms to? Is there anything 'extra' that you might be able to tell me from your experiences?

It is ok to return the checklist and DS 230, plus other stuff to the Embassy before getting the medical exam and police cert. done. I did this too. I received Packet 3 on Dec 18 and I sent it back on 19. I waited until I was informed the interview date which is on Nov 30. I had the police cert. done on Dec 24 and I planned to get the medical exams done on Nov 15. No problem.

To EVOLUTION`,
Luckily, my friend scanned that paper of requirements to me. Here it is...

Below are included in packet 3 I have sent to consulate
1. Checklist
2. DS230 part I
3. Photo (2) (is it required?)
4. copy passport (is it required?)
5. NVC letter (addition)(is it required?)

3. 2 Passport style Photo?

I thought that the only thing you need to sent back is the Checklist and the DS-230 part I, that's the first time I heard anything about the Photo (2) and copy of passport + the NVC letter. I also thought that you only need to bring the above listed #3,4,5 to the interview.

You need to send 2 passport style photos and a copy of passport along with a signed checklist and DS-230 part 1 back to the Embassy. This is written in 2 seperated papers in packet 3. It's not directly included in the instruction. (I wish I had a scanner) :hehe:

NVC letter is not necessary. It's only optional just to prove that your case has really been approved.
