In the meantime, are you doing general CG duties such as "anything petty officer Snuffy tells me?"

well pretty much he said that it would be a good way to "sample" the jobs. that way you know what you like... honestly i don't care, i just wann get in and then work from the "inside out" so to speak.

Whatever you do.... don't let her join just to join. Make sure she gets a guaranteed job in a field she wants to be in BEFORE she ships out. Recruiters are awesome at getting to you to sign up so you can "go in as quickly as possible" and "you'll pick your job when you get there." Sounds great until you're humping 100lbs of gear through the sand. "So, what did you do in the military?"

pick a job after you join is kind of what the Coast Guard does. you get stationed with a unit and then wait years on end to go to A-school. sometimes ppl don't even get to go throughout their whole 4 year contract.

So my girl and I were talking about job options today and things she wants to do. She brought up, and in the past she has too, joining our military. I've told her if she wanted to look into it that I would support her in it. I've been realistic about the whole thing with her, about training and what goes on, and how the military works. My father was a 25yr vet in the navy, and I went though the enlisting process myself. The thing that would kill it for her is if she had to give up her Russian Citizenship in order to do it, and I believe that is the case. After all I can't see a foreign country liking its citizen to enlist in another's country military. Especially when she wants to go into linguists. I'm looking for something that says that is so or not, and was wondering if anyone knew what Russian, or even American law said about this. Links would be appreciated as then I can show her.

Thanks everyone, and hope you all are having a great Sunday.

im in the enlistment process for Coast Guard myself right now and here's what i know. we don't have to renounce russian citizenship in order to become a linguist, we just have to be american citizens (same goes for any job that requires secret clearance).. also, we can't be officers, for the same reason. If she has a conditional card, she can't go into the Air Force.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusWhere is everyone from in Russia?

Silver Bear is some of my favorite ammo. I love that stuff!

If she's there again, have her swipe some for me. In all seriousness, if I could find someone to import it for me, I'd be all over that.

i wish you had told me before..

If you guys find yourself with nothing to do in Barnaul, go get me some ammo! HUGE factory there and a lot of the ammo I shoot comes from Barnaul.

My wife is from the Far East - went between Vlad/Khab for most of her life.

hey! i noticed that it's all from barnaul.. you know that blue box with a bear on it?

my mom was literally there 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Maria is from Barnaul in Siberia.   I am going to visit after she goes for her Moscow interview.   Not much to do there, but we're going to go snowboard in the Altai Mountains, so I'm totally stoked.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusRussian international passport

Hmm... Apparently, there are 2 web sites and 2 companies, both are based in Chicago:

The first one (.com) allegedly charges $145, while the other one (.org) - $525 (claiming it to be "all inclusive" price). Not sure what's included and what's not in the $145 price charged by ISCtravel. Otherwise both web sites are 99% identical (same pages, same wording, same almost everything). Kind of suspicious  ...

If you use their services, please report your results here.

Yeah I saw that and thought the same. They look identical and that's why I mistakenly thought that they charged more when in reality they r two different sites. That's why I wanted to know from someone who actually had experience renewing their passports.

Which agency is that? Link? We were going to do that instead of making 2 trips to DC, but we have a problem with the name change which is a freaking nightmare. When she had her passport renewed last time it was great and they put the stamp in that showed her married name in the US. Great, but now because of that stamp they say she must actually change her name, and they require so much crazy documentation with translations and appostile.

What's that..?

If it's a Russian province of some sort, the Russian embassy would be the only ones I could think of asking. The US doesn't recognize any country named Zagra..

"zagran passport" is an international passport.. russian-speaking people would have understood, sorry, didn't mean to be rude.

i want to hear from someone who had experience renewing their "zagran passport" while in the US. i found one agency in chicago and they seem legit, but charge 400$ for a renewal.. if anybody knows of a better way, can they please share.
thank you!

Africa: Sub-Saharansomeone is listening in, or recording our cell phone convo.

It could possibly be the government tapping in.... I've read other posts about people hearing clicking noises and strange sounds when talking to their loves....so maybe, although it is creepy I wouldn't be worried too much they just may hear some risqué convos Hahahaha :D or it could just be a technology mishap....?!

that happened to me once when i was on the phone with my mom bout 4 or 5 years ago.. one minute we were talking normal, the next it sounded like someone was rewinding tape while we were talking or something.. i freaked out and hung up, haven't heard anything like that since.

CanadaChanging my name?
you are applying for a CR1, meaning that you will get a green card upon arrival to the US.. whatever name you put on your application, that name will be on your green card because you won't have a chance at another set of paperwork when you get here. you would have to pay 500$ to have your green card redone with a new name - which is a waste of money.
so i would convince your husband that you need to take his name now.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionIt's that time again!
Hey y'all,
It's been awhile since I've been on here, but I couldn't think of a better place to turn to when I'm preparing for filing the papers with USCIS.
End of March is my the beginning of my 90 day window and I'm not feeling as nervous and unprepared as I did the first time around. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this time all we need is the filled out form, proof of cohabitation and finance mingling? Oh, and taxes, right? And what about pictures, are those still needed?
I hope my fellow filers have a smooth journey and we get to our next pit stop quick.

Yes! You will continue to be a legal permanent resident. Your NOA1 will also act as a 1 year extension to your Green Card.

shew that's what I thought.. I was just making sure. should I just carry the NOA with me to validate the expired GC?

Well, to be fair, I am a know-it-all too.

haha harpa, as much as i have seen you giving advice on this forum, you have a right to call yourself that. if i'm not mistaken, you were one of the first ppl who gave me advice at the very beginning of my journey.

I have experience filing DCF. It is a good and economical option for the OP. You don't seem to have much knowledge in this area, but instead of listening to people who do, you're being rude and antagonistic.

why file DCF when there is clearly a different option.. talking about complicating things.
