K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresphone call and touched

I called USCIS and then checked the status on-line and it shows the case has been touched. Does it mean someone worked on my case or because of the phone call to USCIS? Any ideas? Thanks!

Did you call and talk to someone only at at the USCIS number? Or did you use the RFE trick to contact the CSC directly? If you called only the USCIS that should not result in a touch. But if you contacted the CSC by route of the RFE options then that will normally result in a phone call based touch. Otherwise if you only called and talked to just a USCIS agent then it is most likely a legitimate touch.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAfter the NOA2 question.

What to send to your fiance(e) once the I-129F is approved (Receive NOA2):

1. A copy of the entire I-129f package (that you made when you sent the petition in) and a copy of information that you sent back due to an RFE (if you received one).

This was taken from the K-1 guides.

Do I really need to send her this? Isn't the petition I sent transfered to the consulate for the interview?

I never received an RFE so I know that doesn't apply.

Thanks so much for your help in advance.

Wioombeen

Don't need to, but helpful for reference for your fiancee. The embassy will have the original petition forwarded to them.

Thank you kindly :):):):)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRFE "Trick" -- Does it help?
Yeah People don't use the RFE trick to get touches. They use to to actually get in contact with their service center. In hopes to find out something new such as, has their case been assigned, approved, given an RFE, or used as a puck for some CSC floor hockey. hehe

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedurestouched???
average wait time right now for CSC is over 100 days. So sit tight you still have at least another month to wait. Also some people get approved without ever seeing any touches so try to not fret about touches to much..

I see on other people's timelines that their I-129f applications have "touches". My application has had no activity since :help: they received it on June 5th. Should I be calling somebody? :help:

Some people get touches some don't. You can get an approval without ever receiving a touch. Now your petition was received on June 7th so It will be well into September most likely before you ever hear anything concerning your case. So no worries for you yet.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresone last christmas - well for a few years anyway
My So will have her interview on OCt 5th this Friday. Where she is from it normally takes about a month for the visa to be delivered, so she should most likely have it by November 5th.

However she would like to stay in the Philippines until December 28th so she can have one more Christmas with her family before the move here. We will of course visit them a lot after all the conditions and that hoopla is over with. But I can totally understand her wishes.

I am pretty sure this wont cause any problems with the time frame of the visa process waiting almost two months after receiving the visa. 3 months since the interview. But I don't like to leave anything unchecked in this shady process hehe.

So my question is. will staying 2-3 months in the Philippines beyond the issuing of your K-1 visa before entering the US cause any problems with the process?

It's my understanding that the visa has a 6 month validity and thats just for you to use it right? then once she enters the US the 3 months cycle to be married then starts? Or am I wrong and will her sticking around to be with family not be advised?

thanks for any info.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresApplication Receipt Number?
Hahaha, yeah, I'm one of those people too; trust me, I spent my entire lunch hour entering all those numbers and letters in every combination I could think of.

I'm super tempted to call USCIS and see if they can find my real number based on any of these numbers, or my name/ssn, but I'm not going to. I work for the government myself and I can definitely say most of us don't like the 'how much longer?' type calls (which I wouldn't be able to resist asking if I got through to someone who could find my case ;) ).

All good things to those who wait, I suppose. But man, what a hard wait!
Michele and AdamFemaleEngland2007-05-07 13:22:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresApplication Receipt Number?
Hmm, yeah, the number under the California Service Center line does start with the letters "ALC", not WAC and then there's a space and the # sign and then 8 numbers, and then the line under that has 10 numbers, space, and "CA".

Yep, appears my number is not on there. Okay. Well, they did just cash the check this past Friday, I shall give them some more time to get the paperwork before I call to see what's up. Haha, just my luck! Let's hope this isn't a sign of the way the process is going to go for me! Watch, they erroneously have me set up as petitioning to move an African hockey team to Michigan or something...hee hee.

And yeah, I know there's hardly any info, but I'm just one of those people that feels like I'm "doing" sometime if I check every day. Silly, I know.

Thank you so much, everyone. Really.
Michele and AdamFemaleEngland2007-05-07 12:10:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresApplication Receipt Number?
I see. Well, I kept the amount of numbers and spaces, etc. the same (i.e., it says ALC(space)#(eight numbers)), I only changed the actual numbers, but it appears to be moot. Hmm, wonder if that's just a rumor then, about being able to register based on the cashed check info.

Darn it! I just want something check! It's driving me nuts! I want to start incessently checking my case status online! Oh well, I assume the paperwork shouldn't be far behind then, now that the check has been cashed, although it appears from other timelines here I should have gotten it two weeks ago...

Thanks so much for the info.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresApplication Receipt Number?
I'm sorry if this has been answered a million times, I did try to search the forums but didn't see my question.

I sent my K-1 package on April 12, 2007 and still haven't received anything at all from USCIS. However, I checked my online bank today, and they cashed my check May 4, 2007!

It's my understanding the number I can use to set up my account to check my case status is on the back of the check? But nothing I am putting in the website is working.

The info on the back of the check is:

PAY TO THE ORDER OF
BANK OF AMERICA
123456789
FOR DEPOSIT ONLY
US TREASURY TGANET WEST
CITIZENSHIP & IMMIGRATION SVCS
CALIFORNIA SERVICE CENTER
ALC #12345678
1234567890 CA

Are any of these my numbers I can use to set up my account? Or is it perhaps just too early, I don't have a number yet, or it's not in their system since they just cashed the check last Friday?

It's been almost a month I've been waiting for some sort of acknowlegment, so I want to get it set up NOW! I'm sure you all know how that is. I just can't wait any more, and have this possiblity dangled in front of me but it's not working!

I followed the links on the USCIS website to get to the part to register my account, and it's asking for my application receipt number.

Any help/ideas would be appreciated.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat's an NOA1? Please help!!
OOPS! Accidently posted before I was done! Disregard above post (won't let me edit for some reason...). Here's what I mean to say:

Yep, there is definitely a slow down. I've posted this in a few topics so sorry to the people who are reading it again, but my timeline has been: I mailed my petition on April 12th and it wasn't "received" (check cashed, number assigned, NOA1 sent) until May 1, 2007.

The USCIS site says my NOA1 was mailed May 1, I still have yet to receive it.

Also, my cancelled check happened to NOT have my receipt number on it, I had to call and get it and then register. It should be on the check, but mine wasn't for some reason.

I think a good rule of thumb is if you are around two weeks to a month behind where you think you should be, call USCIS. You can always call before then, but you don't want to bombard them.

Just keep comparing your timeline to similar ones to yours and if you seem way out of range, give a call. But of course, don't assume because one person got a NOA2 60 days after filing or whatever, you will too. Use the timelines as general guidelines.

My one experience calling was good, I talked to two people who both gave me the same answer and they were both nice. Call was quick. Just don't abuse it. You don't want to be "that" case that customer service dreads dealing with!

Don't panic! We're all in this together. You'll be fine.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhy do I need to mail a copy of I-129F package?

I took mine to Andre. He was speechless when he saw how much time and effort I put into filing the visa. He did not realize it was more then just a few pieces of paper.

Hahahaha, exact same boat here! I put our package together while Adam was still visiting and he thought it was all done when we filled out those 8 million copies of the application and biographical info. He didn't know how much other stuff I was stockpiling. I didn't include our primary evidence of having met (just sent a photo and a letter from a friend, d'oh!) so in anticipation of the RFE that's coming, I've been copying EVERYTHING that has anything to do with our visits, and made a huge, very organized package, with perfect copies for both of us. Adam was astounded when I gave him his copy of both of the 129F and the stuff for our RFE when he left to go back to England! I probably added 10 pounds to his suitcase weight!

I would also like to comment, I thought I had read somewhere in another forum that your fiance will need the originals of the copies you sent for your 129F? Like, he'll need a certified copy of my birth certificate, real photos and the like? That the consulate wants the originals? Or am I mixing that up with the consulate wanting originals of the police certificate/medical interview, etc. Or, did I just dream the whole thing? ;)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWorked illegally
Hmm, well, I think that is, unfortunately, going to work against you. All the information is pretty explicit about not working while on a tourist visa, so you did violate the terms of the visa.

You're definitely going to have to fess up if you're asked about it, or if it's on any forms or whatever. Hopefully they will just consider it a minor offense and you'll still get approved. But absolutely be honest about it. If you lie at any time, you could be denied for ten years! USCIS really doesn't like being lied to, they seem to almost count that as a bigger infraction than whatever it is you're trying to cover up!

Don't know how much info USCIS already has in their vast databases, but I would just assume they have it all on you. However, I don't know from experience, so hopefully someone else who was in your shoes will post too, with their experience.

All you can really do is apply and hope for the best. If you don't apply, you obviously won't get in. If you apply, you've got that chance to get in.

Good luck

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUK cit in USA, Canada day trip?
Not sure this is in right forum, first off. Sorry.

Adam is here in US (yay) from Aug 23 to Oct 1. Michigan. I'd like to take him to this wonderful park by Lake Huron where the waves are huge! Problem: it's in Canada (by about a 45 minute drive...).

Adam is here on visa waiver. He did not say he planned on any trips like this when he first checked in. I don't want him to be stranded in Canada!!!

Any thoughts? Can we do this? Just for a day, a beach day. Any trouble we could get in? I know it's always up to border patrol in the end, but does anyone know of any specific rule that says we should or shouldn't go?

Thanks so much!

Please forgive typing, I have cast on right hand!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHelp with border control?
This is the way Adam and I prepare for trips to see each other. Think of all the things you'll have to cancel or change when you move the US after getting VISA (rent, utilities, bank, work, even magazine subscriptions have your name and address on them!) Those are all your proof of ties. Make copies.

But it really shouldn't even come up for someone coming from the UK. This is Adams 3rd visit this year, fourth total, and for 146 days total this year, and he has yet to be asked for a single piece of paper. He went to secondary again this last time August 23rd, but it took all of 45 seconds. Just questioned about visa status and told if we marry now, it would really screw things up. Yep, thanks for the tip. Okay, have a nice visit! Easy easy.

I wouldn't recommend tabing.

The petition is sent!! I used First-class with a receipt notice.

Well, I ended up tabbing. It doesn't look so bad now, but I'm sure once USCIS goes through it it will look a lot different. I'm glad I abandoned the binder and plastic sheets though... using 2 (whatever they're called) paper clamps, I secured everything together and in the same order as listed on the cover letter. It will definitely be easier and quicker to go through.

Honestly, I'd remove the binder. You're creating extra work for the processor to take it all out of the binder and arrange it the way they're going to.

Even if they can easily remove the sheets out of the plastic inserts? The pages (forms, documents, etc.) are not 3 hole punched. They are inside transparent proctetors that are punched.

They will arrange your file according to their procedure, so the easier to access documents, the better. Going through each plastic to retrieve documents is an added work for them. I remember, we punched holes on all our papers, bound them with 2-prong ACCO fastener, put tabs at the bottom. It is a lot presentable and accessible.

The evidences of meeting and on-going relationship look good to me. good.gif BTW, don't forget to include a copy of your fiancee's birth certificate. If in foreign language, make sure to include a translated copy.

Good luck!

If you do a search on a certain member...####### I can't remember his name...oh I'm sure someone here will remember it..Anyways, he worked for one of the service centers and he explained the process of how the approval on this end works. Apparantly, iirc, they are judged by how fast they can process a petition...and it's something like 15 minutes a piece, providing all the docs are correct and complete.

I think it provides extra work with no benefit. I fastened my petition with clips and a big rubber band. One doc under another....no fuss no muss. What actual benefit are you gaining by seperating it and bogging it down with a binder?

Thanks. I actually removed everything and assembled it in a similar fashion (but using tabs to separate documents). I like this a lot more... I don't know what I was thinking. Great advice, though. Thanks a lot! good.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-129F Original Submission: assembly and evidence
Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum. I have been referring to this site for guidance in assembling the I-129F petition and I must say... THANK YOU to everyone and this site. This is a great resource.

Now- down to business. I have all of the contents assembled. As of now, each document has its own plastic document protector that fits into a 3-ring binder. For example, the I-129F form, each g325a, and all evidence has its own protector, divided with binder tab inserts. I now realize that the ACCO fasteners are preferred, but since I already have it assembled I am apprehensive to change it. Should I worry about the method in which the petition is assembled? Personally, I don't think it will be difficult for a USCIS official to take it apart. Each document is separated and can be easily removed from the plastic protectors. I did not use staples- only paper clips. Based some other posts, I shouldn't worry about this... but seeing as how this process is so detail-oriented I thought that I would seek a little guidance.

Lastly, I would like to list my evidence and see if anyone thinks I am missing something or should add more.

A little background: My fiancee, Agustina, and I met during a study abroad program in Argentina (May-June 2006). I stayed an extra week with her in which our relationship developed. About 6 months later, she came to Michigan to visit me for a month. Just this last summer, I returned to Argentina to visit her and propose. We have been together 3 times total and have racked up tons of e-mails and chats. Here is a list of our evidience for having met in the last 2 years and having an on-going relationship.

1) Copies (for both of us) of certificates from Michigan State University certifying our participation in the study abroad program.
2) Copies of both of our passports with the stamps to prove entry and exit from the country when we visited.
3) Printed itineraries of flights to see each other.
4) Pictures from study abroad, her time in Michigan visiting me, and my second trip to Argentina (including pictures with my family and hers)
5) Lift tickets from the ski resort we went to in Michigan
6) Selected e-mails and chats from when we first met to present (in chronological order)
7) Engagement Announcement
8) Hand-written letter from Agustina to me discussing my visit to Argentina and some details of the day I proposed to her
9) International phone cards

What do you think? I don't think I'm going overboard and I don't see how this evidence would not suffice. But, as I'm sure many of you can imagine, I'm nervous and getting a little crazy with this whole process! blink.gif

Thanks! Wish us luck... and good luck to all of you in this crazy bureaucratic process.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresBeen 2 weeks... check not cashed

There were 12 VJ K1/3 petitions sent to CSC between 9/21 & 9/27 inclusive. Only two of them report receiving their NOA1's.

You need to be patient. Welcome to the wonderful world of USCIS. unsure.gif

Yeah, my patience is beginning to grow thanks to this forum... it's kind of like my support group when I get nervous about this whole process. good.gif

I wouldn't worry. It is well-publicized on USCIS that they are having extremely long receipting delays - as much as 4 weeks to process intake of petitions. And, even if you call, they can't tell you anything! Hang in there, it will happen.

Great. Thanks!

I suppose I just needed a little assurance. good.gif
