K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLeaving the US after marriage
Hey can anyone explain whether id be able to leave the US once we are married for 2 weeks or so with my (then-to-be!) husband for a blessing in the UK? My fiancee seems to think that I cant leave the states for like 4 months or something otherwise it will be voided? I assumed I could just leave whenever once we are married and reenter on the VWP and apply for AoS? Though whether id be allowed to enter with my husband and no ties of coming back on the VWP is questionable. Any ideas?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThose who are still waiting... When was the last time you saw your fiancé (e)?
Wow I thought my relationship was bed when we only see eachother every 6 weeks. I dont know how you guys do it!. Luckily I work for an airline and get 6 free flights a year, so we dont have to worry too much about money. Though we have to fly stand by which means if the flights too busy we cant travel. I feel for you guys tho

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTimelines from NOA2 and Interview, K1

Hi All,

Recent I-129F filer here.

I've been looking over user timelines to try and gauge our wait times. I've noticed that with UK filers, the biggest difference between the quick turnarounds and the longer ones seem to be between receiving and sending packet #3. Some do it in a day, others 3-4 months.

This is the medical/police/financials/etc packet right? Is it safe to say that the best way to get through this stage quickly is to have all of our documents and vaccinations at the ready ahead of time, or do we have to wait and get the medical/police/etc after receiving the NOA2 so that they're more current?

Is there some other delay that I'm missing/ misunderstanding with the timelines? I want to make sure the only waiting taking place is us on the government, not the other way around :)

Thanks all for your sharing wisdom on this topic, this website is amazing.

ignore above post lol

This is what im thinking! Im going to apply for my CRB police cert thingy in the next couple of weeks and get all my vaccinations and certs done in advance! I think its best to have these all ready by the time your NOA2 comes as if its within 12 months im pretty sure all ur details are still good and valid.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 Sent!

Best of luck fellow January filer. We got our first response (NOA1) by text within the week. So now it's hunker down for the big wait

During which period you will probably like me realise how much you have to prepare for the both the arrival of NOA2 and the actual move.....

A week, thats cool that means the text should come any day now! I have kind of prepared for the big move myself by moving out of my flat in with a friend, so seriously having to downsize everything i.e throwing things away and shipping stuff off to the parents! Now I best prepare for the arrival of the NOA2. Looks like thats going to be a ton of effort! What kind of stuff have you done to prepare for the NOA2?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMinor Information! Stressseeeedddd

Do you have ANY idea what you are getting yourself into? Casablanca is by FAR one of the most, if not THE most difficult consulates to get a visa from, let alone for a college girl who wants to bring her "fiance". You need to wait until you are 18 and do some SERIOUS research. You are setting yourself up for a denial. BIG TIME.

What a rude and obnoxious poster

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSomething positive to foucs on and a compliment to VSC

Okay so those who are still waiting on approval for a k-1 fiance visa. I just had a thought cross my mind as I will trying to get an update on the current processing times and seeing that they havent updated... Then looking at igors list and seeing all those update in the last 12 months
http://www.visajourn...tion=3&sortby=2

The VSC is actually moving faster then it appears. I have only been here since Dec 13th. But I CLEARLY remember looking in Dec and the processing times for those getting approved were in MAY 2012.... so in just 7 weeks ( the time I have been waiting) they are now approvig AUGUST... So In 7 weeks they have been touching and approving the months of May,June,July & August.... NOT a bad average if you think about it...

SO keep up the great work VSC.... and PLEASE get to DEC Filers soon LOL!!!!

Keepig the Faith...

TOGETHER IN THE JOURNEY

Angelina

There is a small ray of hope for us after all then! And I second that VSC get to Dec filers soon because Jan will be soon after

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPre-NOA2 prep? (for my GH folks, esp)
Well what im doing (the non us citizen) is getting my police certificate requested, making copies of it, getting my vaccination records, getting vaccinations I need, and trying to build an exact replica of the package my fiancee sent! This way we are prepared and it also keeps us a little busy so we arent watching the calender every day

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresestimating time of K1 process to set wedding date

Your families want a fancier wedding? I always had the most fun at the least fancy weddings. I think it should be up to the couple, unless someone wants to make a major donation to the cause.

hahah donations would certainly be more than welcome. Well they would prefer something more like a religious ceremony in a church and i think my fiance feels the same. I just like stress- free im definitely low maintenance!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresestimating time of K1 process to set wedding date

We live in Missouri but we got married in Wisconsin. It was beautiful and private and so stress-free. We had so much fun - we have great pictures of us in the stream and on a little bridge in the woods - There was nothing to go wrong or be disappointed about because I had planned so little.
Kind of a long story made short - I choose Wisconsin because my sister lived there and she could be there with us.
It was so easy to plan - i called the shawano county courthouse, they gave me a phone number to a judge, we agreed on a location ( i had made a trip up to see my sister a few months prior and found what I thought was the perfect park) and about a week before the wedding I called a florist in shawano and asked them to make me a wedding bouquet I told them i didn't care about the colors just make it pretty - and also ordered a cake from a bakery - with the same instructions.
Total wedding cost:
dress - 170.00
suite - 300.00
judge - 100.00
flowers - 15.00
cake - 20.00
champagne -30.00

I wasn't trying to go for a budget wedding - I honestly thought we would do this and then have the real ceremony that we would plan later - NOt going to do that anymore - nothing could be better than it was - the day was perfect - I would rather use the money we saved to go back to Romania and celebrate with his family

See if it was just me and my fiancee that is exactly what we would do but this wedding is as much for our families too and they want something fancier. I am so envious of you guys though there is definitely a lot about your special day that appeals to me

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresestimating time of K1 process to set wedding date

You can have it how ever you want. When my fiance ( now hubby) had his visa in hand, and was on his way here, I called the county courthouse who put me in touch with a justice of the peace and we made arrangements to have a small ceremony in a park. We got married on a rock under the trees overlooking a beautiful stream. He asked me if I wanted to use my own vows, any music, etc and gave me lots of choices for the ceremony. It turned out to be the best day ever - with so little planning and no stress over it. WE have the best outdoor pictures. Most of all we had a blessed stress free wedding. you can have a "courthouse" wedding without it being in the courthouse.

Wow that sounds so beautiful! I would definitely not be adverse to the idea as I think the stress of planning it may well ruin the experience for me on the day, plus im a private kind of person and dont like the thought of there being hundreds of people there. What state did you get married in?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresestimating time of K1 process to set wedding date

we havent planned anything yet,our petition went to vermont august 24th,its still being processed but we are expecting and hoping we will hear something this month ? i havent sold my house yet,i may have to rent it,we have looked at places to marry but havent booked anything, its safer to wait till the visa is issued we think ! its tough for the family because friends and family who want to come to the wedding work, and they are all wanting to know when to book time off work,i tell them we are in limbo and its safer not to book anything till the visa is issued ! as some here have advised you and i echo it, DONT book anything that you will lose money on if there is a setback ! a nice wedding is good but a good start to marriage is better !

yeah we are having the same issue with the bloody wedding date people want to know asap when to book it off and when to buy flights. Im so tempted by a court wedding but my mum would be devestated. With the ceremony etc. do you still have the vows and everything as u would of anyway?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresJust want to be married and be together

We filed for the K1 petition in early August 2012 ... 220 days ago today. There is no guarantee that we will get a response, possibly for months still... we can hope for 'any day' but realistically we have been saying that since January.

My question is... can we legitimately and legally move from a K1 to K3 process? We simply want to get on with our lives... and be married. Can I in any way travel to the States and marry.. stay and leave for any visa processes required in my off shore country? At least waiting for the petition process being together seems more manageable... We want it to be legal and up front though. If it's not legal.. we would not consider doing it.

A complication is that my boss at work is going for a long holiday in a few months.. and I don't want to resign while he's away and leave work in the lurch so to speak. It would be so much more convenient to have a replacement on board before he goes away. I am feeling torn.

Any input appreciated...

You are sooooo close! Dont give up! My fiancee and I are thinking about abandoning the K1 and getting married but we are only (less than) 2 months into the process, I think you would highly regret this 7 month wait for nothing

We figured the sooner we sent the application the better. And like the above poster said as far as the person adjudicating your account is concerned you are engaged if you both sign the intent to marry form. For all they know you may not be able to afford a ring.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresGoing to visit my fiancee

I remember that I spent 2011 Christmas holidays with my then fiance and when He returned to the States on early- mid January our NoA 2 was wating for him on the mail :). The largest period we couldn't see each other was 3 month (twice september - december/ january -march) and we were already loosing our minds! But you know what? Even when is really hard being away from your better half, it only make your future marry life even better! I think everything that we'd been through was totally worth it! This whole k1 visa drama made our relation stronger and made us 1000% more committed to our love. I see other couples (who had the chance to had a regular relationship) and we are wayyy different. Being apart and struggle to be together since the very beginning taugh us to enjoy every single moment together, not to give up easily, to work for our relationship and build a strong-happy-healthy marriage. I think that we give more value to all the things we struggle and battle to get. Now that it's been almost a year since I finally moved to the US (on april 20) we look back and we could not believe not only, how fast time went by but also how much we'd accomplish together and how much we grew up as couple, but always thanking God for all the things He put us through. What it kepts us going, was the thinking of: instead of thinking how much time we had ahead with rather to think that every day that went by was a day closer to be together. Enjoy your time together and think, embrace and believe that soon you will be together

Oh my goodness what a lovely story, feel so hopeful now! :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVSC processing times

Hello y'all.

I just noticed Vermont Service Center processing times for K1 Visa went from 6.1 months to 5 months. Yes, I'm one of those waiting for the NOA2, and before starting to higher my expectations and daydreaming, I have a few questions :

- is that information correct? I mean how much credit shall we give to that update?
- 5 months starting when? The last update was 31 January. Having filed for K1 in February, should I expect my average processing times to be 5 months?
- could this have something to do with this : http://www.visajourn...service-center/ ?

I have answers for these questions, but just to make sure (since I'm new to all this), some approval or not will be nice.
Thx

Hello :)

Yes I absolutely do think it may have something to do with http://www.visajourn...service-center/

Whether or not this 5 months figure is accurate is another thing though. Igors list shows they are still working on September which makes 6 months. So unless they are being ultra-optimistic and expecting to whizz through Ocotbers I would expect 6 months to be more of an accurate timeline. I am a January filer and am **expecting** my NOA2 July time. But after recent goings on with CSC I feel like who knows what could happen

Best if you can provide boarding passes (you dont need them for each visit, even one boarding pass from the past 2 years will suffice)and also scan your passport page with the stamps and print that out and include it! Good Luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAdvise on When to Plan the Wedding or Religious Ceremony

First of all, thank you. These forums are an awesome resource and I have been a lurker for a long time. I hope to now finally contribute with questions and the eventual story of my experiences.

So, I filed the k1 for my Canadian fiancee in mid February when we decided job wise and financially we would be better off living in the United States. Prior to that, I the American citizen, was going to university in Canada and have been with her for five years there. I have a work visa and study permit.

Prior to deciding to move to the United States we had a wedding date planned for July of this year. Catering is set, photographer, tent, etc. Money has definitely been spent. However, I think I may have underestimated the time it would take for us to get the K-1 to all come in.

There are two problems here:

  • First, we have a wedding planned and know that we now have to marry in the United States. We have decided we will just make it a religious ceremony, unrecognized by the U.S. Government (as their website states) but, are torn with how to do it. We have all of these services rented, a dress bought, a pastor coming, etc. However some of the advice I have been reading here suggests it cannot resemble any form of wedding, ie - dress, honeymoon, rings, etc. Should we make it a really little celebration or suck up the costs and redo it after we eventually marry in the US?

I'm not looking for legal advice, just practical advice. It is to be a small gathering of family, mostly those in Canada. However, discovering this it hurts me to admit we may have to reschedule and I know her parents have been planning and spending to get ready. Thankfully, invitations have yet to go out.
  • We may have that celebration and then have to worry about the prospect of doing it and me moving back without her as we continue to wait for the visa to come through. I have a pretty good job so I cannot afford to just stay with her and wait. How do you guys manage that kind of seperation? We have done summers apart (3-4 months at a time) for four years now and it really sucks. Since leaving Canada in December, this is becoming our longest distance apartment. Skype is only so good...

Any theories or ideas we should think about for the wedding? Something I may have missed?

Can u fill in ur timeline?
