K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNOA2 arrived yesterday! I need help on next steps

Okay, I've been looking over forms, studying, reading the message forums for about hours today and last night. I feel like I'm getting a better grasp of some things...but i'm getting more and more confused on others.

According to the VJ K-1 Flow Chart, about 1 week after the Bogota Consulate receives the K-1 packet they will send my fiance a packet that has a "checklist of items and paperwork". Then it says because the mail in Bogota is inefficient so they will send a link to all of these forms and information. I assume they will send this link to me? I don't recall if we ever gave them my fiancee's email address. It says this will be all the information in the packet:

Open appointment letter
DS-156
DS-156K (if for fiancé(e))
Information about photos (need for interview and medical exam)
LIST OF DOCUMENTS to be taken to interview
VISA FEE INFORMATION
INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS

So do we just sit back and wait for this info before she can actually start doing anything? I assume she can start preliminarily gathering some things...like Birth Certificate, taking more passport fotos, etc. What else could she be doing right now?

I think I'm fairly well prepared for the things I need to send her. I have my past tax forms and I have old check stubs. Aside from getting a letter from my work, I should be able to put the I-134 together right now. My fiancee already has the complete copy of the original I-129F packet with photos, evidence, etc. It looks like I just need to gather some more evidence to prove we are still in a relationship. After that I should be good to send her everything. I noticed it says to send "all originals"...is this really necessary? They need my actual plane boarding passes, etc. not photocopies?

Is there anything else I/we should be doing right now? Should I have my fiancee talk to her doctors to see what vaccinations she's had, etc. or should we just wait for the packet?

Sorry for the long message....doing this stuff just turns my head into a big ball of stress.

http://bogota.usemba...pt-package.html

Need to read the instructions for the I-134. Under Supporting Evidence: You need letter or letters from bank or banks, to state date account opened, total amount deposited for the past year, and present balance. I had to pay for my Bank of America's letter.

Also, letter from employer to state date and nature of employment, salary paid, and whether the position is temporary or permanent.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsI-129F WAITING GAME
Patience... Did you call them? Either way, I called at the 5 month and was told to wait another 2 weeks. This was Thursday. The following Monday morning, I had my NOA2. Everything depends on how backed up they are. Remember, there are folks out there waiting longer than you for an answer. When you read their timelines, I think you can relax, because they are in worst shape than you. Once you get your NOA2, is all downhill from there. Recommend you send an email to NVC once you get your NOA2 and request to be informed when the Bogota Case Number is assigned. Next you will get the email from the embassy saying they have your package. When you do get the Bogota case number, you can go online and schedule your appointment, pay VISA fee, setup VISA package delivery option, schedule your doctor appointment, schedule your airline, reserve your room, then start the waiting game again. That's how it goes.... That's how it is.... They are not going to loose your package. Use this waiting time to organize what you need for the interview. Good Luck... and Patience.... lots of patience....

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical Exam Interview - Bogota
Looking for help on this. Just wondering what vaccines or immunizations are they looking at.
What shots are they looking at that an adult must have before they travel to the US.
Do you recommend to begin shots before the interview?
If someone could help me get better prepared for the medical interview in Bogota, Colombia.
Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 Visa June 9, 2010 Interview Review in Bogotá Colombia

OZ62, the information here is a bit old. The Embassy changed the rules sometime back in October 2011, so I would only suggest that anyone going through this process pull the instructions from the Embassy WEB site, not from Visa Journey posts, but, ask specific questions based on the info from the Embassy Web site here at Visa Journey. Also, the beneficiary DOES NOT have to create the on-line account. I had asked this question because I was not sure if I could fill out the account data with my personal info such as eMail an phone # or that of my fiance, but you( the petitioner) can create the account with her personal info entered into the page. I did it this way because I paid the visa fee with my credit card.

I could say more, but again, refer to the embassy Web site for the latest documents that are required for the interview.

Jon & Clau

I created her account using her information. This is what I understood. Once all is a go... I will go online, do the DS-156, print two copies, then log onto https://usvisa-info.com/ using her account, pay for the VISA with my credit card and schedule the appointment. I will then fly out to Bogota with the paperwork (DS-156, DS156K, I-134. She will fly out from Barranquilla with her paperwork (Birth Certificate, Passport, Pictures of us, some copies of e-mails, shot records-She has an old DAS certificate-Doesn't look like it's needed anymore?). I'm thinking of renting an apartment if we can't get a room at Hotel Doña Flor, Carrera 44C #22A-16. If possible, would like to stay a week with her. Last time I we were together was a short weekend last year end of August until the 5th of September. But if we can get all done in 3 days, would be great. Next is wait for the package to arrive at her place in Barranquilla (DHL Counter Prado - CALLE 74 NUMERO 52 -16). I plan to fly out and sweep her off her feet and come back together to Miami.

Just sitting here.. hoping that I get my NOA2 this coming week or next week the latest. I got my NOA1 in October 31st.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 Visa June 9, 2010 Interview Review in Bogotá Colombia
I found this today and would like to share.... There may be changes since 2010. There were many after September 2011. Also all payments for VISA can be done via the internet (https://usvisa-info.com/). The account must be created by the Beneficiary. To pay for VISA online and to schedule an appointment, for K1, you must first complete the online DS-156 (print two copies for interview) - will need the Barcode number from this form. Fill out the DS-156K to bring to the interview. DO NOT SIGN any 156 forms. Get the CASE Number from NVC (603) 334-0700 - Can call NVC about 7 days after your approval date (NOA2). Have your NOA2 receipt number ready. Press 1 for English, the 5 to talk to an operator. Ask them if they received your case, and if yes, ask for your case number. Once you have all - you are ready to pay for the VISA and schedule the embassy appointment.

K1 Visa Interview Review in Bogotá Colombia

http://fianceek1visa.blogspot.com/
Interview Date: June 9, 2010
Result: APPROVED

We started the day by calling a taxi at 6:00 am. Our apartment (www.welovebogota.com) was close however were a bit worried because we didn't have much luck with calling taxis. To be sure we called two different services with the intent of taking the first taxi that showed up. The taxi arrived at 6:10 am and got to the US Embassy at about 6:20 am. We waited in line 3 which is right outside of the Embassy walls and the ladies in the hot pink vests verified our appointments and let us in the Embassy. We did not get the appointment letter so they had to call and verify our appointment before letting us in.
We then processed through security which is very similar to a security checkpoint at an airport. I’d also like to say that they don’t allow cell phones with cameras, cameras, mp3 players and a lot of other electronic devices in the Embassy. You will need to check them in with security if you have them before entering.

We then went to line 40 or immigrant visas and were given a folder to organize our documents. The items in this folder included:

* Passport
* 2 copies of DS-156 & DS 156k forms
* Birth Certificate
* Baptismal Certificate
* DAS Judicial Records
* DAS Immigration Records
* I-134 & Supporting documents (Employment verification letter, W2 & Tax return from previous years, letter from bank stating balances on account)
* Medical exam results in sealed envelope
* Two passport style pictures

We waited in this line for about 40 minutes, got the folder, organized our documents and signed the DS-156 and DS156k forms, had them reviewed and were told to move to the waiting area near the Domesa line.

About 30 minutes later we were called to window 32 to submit the documents in the folder. The lady reviewed the document, asked my fiancée a few questions.. Where did I live? Where did I work, was I married? The then told us to go wait by windows 2 – 6 for the immigrant visa interviews.

We waited here for about 2.5 hours before being called for our interview and it was a bit depressing because most people we saw were not approved. You are able to tell if someone is not approved because the officer will return their passport. If the visa is approved the officer will keep the passport for processing. Most non-approvals were because o problems with documents and were told to set up another appointment.

We were eventually called to window 4 for out interview an it was a man of what appeared to be Indian decent.

He asked my fiancée two questions:

* How long did she know me?
* Where did I live?
* The he asked to speak to me.

He asked me the following questions:

* How did we meet?
* Where do you work?
* When did you propose and did she accept?
* Did you give her a ring?
* When do you plan on getting married?
* What type of wedding will you have?
* What was her religion?

He then asked to see pictures and e-mails and I passed them through the window. I explained they were from my last visit in March.

He then told me that the application looked good but that he was uncomfortable with my nervous body language. I explained that I indeed was nervous because we have invested a lot of time, money and emotions in this process and our future depends on this interview.

He then requested to speak with my fiancée again and asked here the same questions. About 2 minutes later he requested to speak with me again and told ME and not my fiancée that the visa was approved.

He told us to pay the Domesa fee so we did and walked out the door at about 12:18pm. The interview lasted about a total of 10 minutes.

Also to my surprise the consular asked me about 70% o the questions in the interview.

Interview Tips

REVIEW YOUR DOCUMENTS!!!
They are very picky about the documents so make sure they are all the correct documents they requested an that everything is filled out properly. I cant stress this enough because most of the non-approvals were because of people missing documents like the DAS forms, W2 forms, employment verification letter etc…
Again.. Read the instructions in packet 4 and become familiar with the requirements. Again they will not approve your visa if you don’t submit all the requirements. This is the most important thing you can do before the interview.

Make every effort to attend the interview with your fiancé(e). I'm 100% sure that she wouldn’t have been approved I I wasn’t there because our relatively short time knowing each other. It also shows the officers that you are serious about your relationship. Of the few approvals I witnessed, the petitioner was there with the beneficiary. I can only remember one woman who was approved who was there by herself.

I hope this helps you prepare for the interview!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNeed help with document translation for interview

Jacob,I think you mis-understood what I said, I never said NOT to submit it, I said submit the Spanish version of the Birth Certificate, and IF, they want an English version, then you have it as you need to at some point anyway. The bad info has been coming from the embassy staff as I have experienced first had!!!

Jon & Clau

http://antecedentes....ial/index.xhtml

For POLICE report use the above link, all you need is the CEDULA number. If you use Google Chrome web browser, it will ask if you want to translate the page to English. I first did a screen capture of the spanish and then the english. I then cropped both pictures and printed both English and Spanish copies.

I played with her Spanish birth certificate, translating it into English, looks good, used Google translate among other things. Did some Googling and looks like I have a nice finish product. The only thing, I cannot tell by signature who signed it at the bottom. Says First Notario, but cannot tell who? I am going to have my future esposa go and find out who this person is. She already has the long form birth certificate. She had the short form, it did not say who the parents were, witness, etc... Had her go and get the long form and it has everything. Mother, Father, Grand Parents, Great Grand Parents, and Witnesses.

Well the info packet the embassy sent me says clearly what we need to bring to the interview and it says we HAVE to bring translations of any documents that are in spanish ( it says if i have already given them the translations i dont have to again but i didnt ), since the birth certificate and police report are in spanish im going to trust that the Colombian Embassy is correct, we have to bring these things along with the aos ( i-134), among other things... Thanks everyone for your help

Any way you can scan and attach a copy of your packet for us?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNeed help with document translation for interview

Hi i need help with translating documents (birth certificate, police records) for the interview at the embassy..... Is this something i can do myself since i speak spanish?( simply create a document that has the exact info but in english? Or is there a place in colombia that does that?)

For anyone whos wondering my noa1 is dated sep3, noa2 is jan19, interview is mar 14..... i was processed by the california service center , Dealing with the colombian embassy
also found out my fiancee is pregnant!
i got a ton of help from this site....
Thanks to everyone who contributes

Correct me if I am wrong but I read in the Bogota K1-K2 Packet DEC 7, page 2 of 7.... "We can return most original documents if you also bring notarized photocopies to your interview. If you already included an English translation in the documents you submitted to USCIS as part of the petition process, you do not need to provide additional English translations or duplicate copies."

http://bogota.usemba...pt-package.html / http://photos.state....2Packetdec7.pdf

When you do the AOS, if a Birth Certificate needs to be sent, this should be translated. Also any additional paper work to send while in the US and is in a language other than English, would have to be translated and notorized.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHelp....pleeeease

Hello my beautiful VJ fam!

I really need some help from keeping my hair from going gray...haha. So my stress worry is that haunting question 11 on the I-134 form.... I have read so many answers to the question I don't know what the right or accepted one is anymore, do I just need to follow the example given on this forum or do I select "intend" and state that I intend to provide whatever is necessary to ensure the beneficiary does not become a burden to the public". Or do I selected intend and then write (n/a ki visa for permanent resident) these are all things I have read and I have read it all depends on the embassy they all accept different answers and that this question does not apply to the K-1... And whatever I put does my co-sponsor have to put the same thing? Anyone from Colombia recently have their K-1 interview with an answer to this? Thank you very very much for any help! I really appreciate it all!!

After reading so much, I decided to put on the I-134 for item 11: K1 visa process for permanent residence. All expenses, including but not limited to, visa expenses, airline tickets, domestic travel, lodging, boarding, food, and medical.

The sample I-134 says: N/A ( K1 visa process for permanent residence ) - Do not check any boxes

Okay, what's the right approach????

Besides.... Today is 4 weeks since my NOA1.... getting more anxious each day... also, getting a bit annoyed since others have recently received their NOA2's before 115 days...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresthere is possibility of getting denied

Dear experienced visajourney's members,

My fiance, he petitioned I-129F for me. He sent the package in early December and about 2 weeks after he got a receipt that we both believe to be the NOA-1. Now is almost April and we haven't heard anything about the petition. We even sign up for the case update on the USCIS.gov but we still haven't gotten any news or update. I just checked now that on the case file on USCIS.gov that our file's last updated is on Dec 21, 2011.
I am so afraid that we would get denied for the petition, but come to think about it, we did everything so nice in order and checked and through, so I really don't see why we would get denied. But I am really scared!!! I mean, what are the chances that we would be denied? how big is the percentage of that incident? what can we do?

Thanks guys!!!

Well, I'm still waiting myself... Like everyone says... Wait... Wait.... and Wait... That's all there is to do.... Looks like everything is slowing down. Probably to the 5 month after NOA1 to expect NOA2 if there are no issues... I am still waiting impatiently....

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA2 STATUS MISTAKE.

Thanks everyone, of course the last week when I called the lady put a service request to VSC telling them that I am citizen since may 4 2011 and not resident . now I am waiting to their response, but once again what really scares me is that they decide to start a new process which would so unfair based on all the time that I already have been waiting .

I submitted copies of my Naturalization certificate (front and back). A complete copy of my US passport. My G-325A, Biographic Information, had all my citizenship information. Did you provide this?

OZ62MaleColombia2012-04-02 22:02:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA2 STATUS MISTAKE.

so the petitioner somehow got pegged as a permanent resident, not a USCitizen.

OK - got it.

USCIS has made a procedural error.

You should call back on Tuesday, speak to an ISO, a Tier 2 person (not the first person that answers the phone)
and
ask for expedite based on USCIS procedural error.

Then follow the instructions they give you on what to do next.

Good Luck !

If it is their fault, not yours, you can request "Expedite Service" - Getting a Congressman involved will take weeks and all they can do is enquirer on your behalf, they cannot push USCIS to expedite.

Expedite Criteria

All expedite requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and are granted at the discretion of the Director. The burden is on the applicant or petitioner to demonstrate that one or more of the expedite criteria have been met. The criteria are as follows:

* USCIS error

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAffidavit of Support I-134

Hi, I have some doubts about whether or not I should list my 2 kids as dependents on the I-134 form. I did some investigation on my own, and the way I understand it is, as long as I am legally obligated to support them, then I have to put them down. My situation is, my kids live with my ex (she has custody) and I pay her child support every month. I do not claim them on my taxes. So am I correct in saying that I need to put them on this form? And if so, are they 'wholly dependent' or 'partially', since I don't have custody?

For what I have read, if you do no claim your kids on your taxes, you do no list them.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresBogota: Visa shipped via DHL?

At the Bogota Consulate information page (http://www.visajourn...mbia&cty=Bogota):

"Visas are now being shipped to beneficiary via DHL (a courier). You select delivery point when you select interview date and pay online. Visas may NOT be picked up at the embassy. Beneficiary can stipulate delivery address and MAY be able to pick up the visa at the DHL office. Example reasons for picking up the visa at DHL include that you are staying at a hotel. Your best, safest, fastest and cheapest option is to pick up your passport at the delivery service's office in Bogota."

I dont quite understand how the pickup works: how long does it take to get the VISA from the delivery service office? Who do I contact?
What is the alternative?
Shipping the VISA means we have to stay in Bogota after the interview to be able to get it fast, this makes it very difficult to plan anything.

What is the best way to approach this?

Any suggestions, experience, concerns?

The Packet 3/4 gives you the website to go and pay the VISA fee. When you create the account, you enter the details where you want the VISA package to go. Pay more for home delivery. Pay less to have it delivered to the local DHL counter. The package can then be picked up by the person who's VISA is intended for. How long, they give an estimate of 2 weeks for delivery. Does it take two weeks, depends, but I have been told 7 to 10 days.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-129f approved waiting for NVC

I filed my i129f on dec 23 2011 received my first noa1 on jan 4. My case was approved on may 2 2012. I've call NVC two weeks after I received my NOA2 and they don't have my papers. I call every day it's not in the system. Called USCIS they told me it was sent out. NVC Says they don't have it. I'm going crazy it's been a little over a month this is all so frustrating. Am I still within the timeline for the process from uscis to NVC and how much longer do I have to wait. My girlfriend has everything in order waiting for the interview.
Please anyone shed some light on my situation.

BY THE WAY VJ you guys are the best!!!!!!!

Don't worry too much, it will not get lost! I highly recommend you send an email to NVC asking for case number. Read this link how to do it. http://www.visajourn...nal_Visa_Center

I also had made comments previously on how to contact NVC.

My NOA2 was on the 2nd of April. On the 4th of April I sent an email to NVC requesting case number. 7 days after my NOA2, I called them and got the standard need to wait 2 weeks after NOA2. I just decided not to do anything anymore because the biggest wait is getting that NOA2. Anyhow, on the 11th (9 days after NOA2), I received a response from NVC giving me my Bogota embassy case number. On the 17th, I received an email from the embassy telling me that they received the package. Shortly after receiving the embassy email, I called NVC asking for a status, told them that I have not heard anything concerning my case, well they said that the package left NVC on the 12th, which is the day after I received the NVC assignment of the Bogota case number. They could be behind, getting swamped, but also reading, they also do the "AP".. My recommendation again... send an email requesting the case number. That's it... and wait for a response. Don't send multiple emails.. like some people have done. 1 is enough. Once you have the case number, you can schedule everything!!! Do the embassy appointment, do the doctor appointment, do the flights, do the hotel reservations... then when all is done... Waiting starts again... Good luck... and if you read there are people waiting a lot more than you... Patience.... Patience... It was hard for me... It's not easy...

wow, you mean to tell me that you can now schedule the K1 visa interview date at the embassy in bogota?

I remember having to wait for the package to arrive at the embassy and then keeping an eye on the monthly schedules posted in advance by the embassy and seeing which day had arbitrarily been chosen for the interview date.

this of course made for last minute airline scheduling and such like a great inconvenience and more costly.

Yeap... as of September 2011 they started the web-based system. Also I received the packet email and said that they no longer slow snail mail the packets anymore.

English_K Packet Apr 2012.pdf says: THIRD: Once you have the required documents, you must register for your visa interview at http://colombia.usvisa-info.com

So once I get my case number from the NVC I can register online or does my fiancee have to register online. Secondly I will be paying for the Visa if that is a factor. Please reply. Thank you

I registered the account under her name several months ago. I logged into her account, I payed with my VISA, and scheduled the appointment. I then told my future esposa the date of interview. I then called Dr. Dennis and scheduled the medical appointment. I then called the hotel and reserved the room. I then called the airlines and made all the reservations for me and her. I rather do all this because she is at work and doesn't get much time to do anything. She lives in Barranquilla and will fly out to Bogota on Avianca. I will depart from Miami via Spirit. I got a free return ticket using my miles.

As soon as you get your Bogota case number from NVC. Do the online DS-156. Pay online the VISA fee of $240 via the website mentioned in the Packet 3/4 I previously posted. As soon as you pay the fee, you will be able to schedule your appointment. You do not need to wait for the package to arrive at the embassy.

It's called: Administrative Processing at NVC and can take several weeks. It happens, but not to everyone. When it happens, there will be delay. Either way, your package will leave for Bogota, no doubt about it. This is a very long process. Very long. Gotta breath. Go for walk. Stay away from the computer. K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresName misspelling

Thanks for the replies. Let me try to answer the questions.

I had always seen her name spelled with a "y". That is the way I saw it when we meet. That is the way she always signs her name. And that is the way we filled out the I-129F forms together. It wasn't until a few weeks ago when I saw her passport and ID card that I noticed that it was spelled with an "i" on there.

I just saw online today that our application was approved. And they mailed the 2nd NOA letter last Friday. So i am wondering what trouble we might be in? Will it be no big deal as it is 1 character out of a 4 word name. And everything else in the application is good? Or we need to re-apply and wait for another 6 months. What should I do now?

Thanks for the advice.

Start with the Birth certificate, either way, you will have to bring this certificate to the embassy for the interview. Next, the passport. Next the cedula. Once you got the name down. Contact USCIS via phone and explain the situation and ask what do you need to do. Her visa and paperwork will have her name and it needs to be corrected ASAP... In other words... now.. before things get out of hands.

Good luck!!

Will need the Colombian Cedula number. Before you leave the states or just before leaving for Bogota, do a print out and bring it to the interview. You will need a print out that you paid the VISA fee.

-------------------------------------------------------
Before we left the Hotel Casa Sarita, the señora Paulina advised us to take the TransMilenio to the doctor's location. The cab ride from the Instituto y Laboratorio Clínico Calle 38 No. 8-28, would cost about $50 US dollars. After the lab work and eating a quick breakfast at Subways, we walked several blocks south to the TransMilenio station. We payed each 7,500 COL pesos for the ride up to the Dr. Rodolfo José Dennis place which is located way up north at the Fundación Cardioinfantil. Total cost for both: 15,000 COL pesos ($8.25 US).
- We took the TransMilenio B1 and get off at the Calle 161. About a 30 minute ride.
- You can then take a short cab ride to doctor’s place from the Transmilenio station.
- Our appointment was at 2PM. We arrived at Calle 161 at 10AM.
- Since it was really early, we decided to walk and do a little tourist touring.
- When we got to the park on the left hand side, we made a left at Carrera 13B
- After the park, the building, next to it is the place.
- Went inside, made a right towards Tower H. Made a left and at the end was the appointment desk.
- Inside the building is a very nice food court with lots of choices.
- We hung out inside the building, taking pictures and then we walked out to have a look around.
- We sat at the park for a while, then around 1PM we went inside to eat and drink something.
- Approx 1:45 PM, we went to the desk and reported for the appointment.
- Approx 3PM, she was called in. I stayed in the waiting room.
- Approx 4PM, she said that she needed shots and that the passport picture was no good and that we needed to get new ones.
- Noticed three other VISA ladies were there and they ALL were required to take shots.
- Doctor told my fiancée that vaccines needed reinforcements (vacunas necesitan refuerzos). Additional cost for 3 shots, 151,100 COL pesos. IMOVAXGRIPE, TETANOS Y DIFTERIA, and SARAMPION. Doctor exam cost was 150,000 COL pesos. Out total cost 301,100 COL pesos and we were out of there with the medical package. Doctor said that if there where issues, especially from the lab work, she would not get a package.
- All ladies were required to completely undress, but my fiancée said that Doctor Dennis was very respectful.
- After my fiancée got her shots, we had to get a cab ride to get new passport or VISA pictures. We were given a place and address. FOTO JAPON, Calle 140, #18A-70 (Close to Avenida 19).
- Cab cost about 5,000 COL pesos each way. Cost for pictures, 41,000. I wanted 6 pictures, but, each sheet was 4 pictures and had to buy 2 sheets, total 8 pictures and was given a cd.
- Got back to the doctor’s place around 5:10PM. My fiancée got her medical package and the form 3025 in hand and we left the place before it got dark.
- This time we took a cab to the TransMilenio station at Calle 161
- To go back we were recommended to take the TransMilenio H13 and to get off at Calle 63.
- Glad that we never took a cab, because there was so many traffic jams coming back. Very glad also, the money saved came handy for the required shots.
- Got off at Calle 63 about 30 minutes after and we walked to our hotel from there.

Nope
Just have to get your papers ready and you can get the packet info befo re Bogota ever responds to you.The sooner you make your appointments, the sooner you fiancee is with you! All you need is the Bogota case number to make your appointment. After you make your embassy interview appointment, call the doctor and schedule the medical. Be prepared to pay for shots! My recommendation, don't get the shots ahead of time, because the doctor will say that booster shots are required, so either way, the doctor is going to dictate which shots are going to be needed. Just do it, get it over with! You will walk out with the med results in hand. You will also have to reserve your room and flights. Good luck and get your papers ready! Also, anything we turned in at the embassy, they were returned to us. More, get the Birth certificate translated in Colombia, it will be a lot cheaper. You will need this when you submit the Green Card paperwork.

- Left the Hotel Casa Sarita a bit late, approx 6:20AM. Our appointment 7:30AM.
- Got to the embassy approx 6:30AM, 10 minute cab ride, Cost 4,400 COL pesos, but I gave the cab driver a 5,000 COL peso bill.
- Huge line or lines outside the embassy when we arrived.
- Thanks to all here in VisaJourney, we knew where to go. We walked on the left side, grassy area, straight to the front, to line 3 which had 4 people waiting.
- After a couple of questions, the lady placed a small green stickers on our shirts with K1 hand written on it.
- Approx 6:38AM we went through security. We did not bring cell phones. X-ray machine, metal detector, take everything out of pocket, etc.. Just like going through security at an airport, except, we did not have to take our shoes off.
- After going inside, into the waiting area, we were told by the attendant to proceed straight to the front of Window 7.
- We were not given a check list by this attendant. We should have. At this point, it may be good to ask the attendant for the K1-K2 checklist if you did not get one.
- A little after 7AM, Window 7 came alive. The lady asked if we placed our documents in order according to the checklist. My fiancée said that we were not given a checklist. The lady behind the window left and brought a checklist and told my fiancée to place the required documents in order and return to the window.
- Our documents were in order, but in manila folders. The lady behind Window 7 said to remove everything from the folders. So, no folders!
- The list did not mention to include the DS-230.
- After a few minutes, my fiancée was asked to provide the certificate of Bautismo and the embassy appointment letter (a copy of the MRV payment).
- The medical examination to submit is the sealed green envelope. The rolled up and taped folder is not turned in and is a copy for the beneficiary.
- Approx 7:25AM went for some coffee in the waiting area. Remember, speakers are still hard to hear and I mean hard. You can catch the name, but the window number is hard to tell. Two other people on K VISAS went to Window 2 and got their K1's approved.
- Approx 8:49AM, heard the speaker announce for my fiancée to proceed to Window 3.
- Very simple questions were asked:
1. Who was the petitioner?
2. How we met?
3. Have she ever been married?
4. Has the petitioner been married? and How many times?
5. Have she ever been to the US?
- The person behind Window 3 said congratulations; your VISA is approved, in approx 2 weeks your VISA should arrive via DHL.
- At no time, proof of relationship was requested, nor was asked to produce the DS-230. The other lady said proof was not requested.
- Approx 8:52AM we were out of the embassy.
- There were cabs in the drop-off area. Got one and approx 9:30AM we were in our hotel.
- All embassy personnel were very friendly and courteous. We are very happy!!!
======================================================================================================
No llevamos teléfonos celulares.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaColombia Embassy Receives petition - what are the next steps?

My girl just got approved at her interview on the 25th of January. For the interview you will need 2 copies of the DS156 and one of the DS156K along with 6 passort photos of the applicant. Also needed at the interview will be passport, birth certificate, medical exam results, and DAS certificado judicial. Dont know if I left something out or not but look at the list on the embassy website.

For what I have read and see, K1, do the online DS-156 and print two copies, fill out the DS-156K PDF and bring 6 passport pictures. But confused, the website to schedule an appointment says to do a DS-160.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaColombia Embassy Receives petition - what are the next steps?
Hola, anyway you can post a copy of your packet. Please... and thanks!

or email it to me?

Also, would it be better to schedule the interview first, then the medical?

My future esposa lives in Barranquilla and we want to do both the medical and interview during the same week.

What about getting the VISA. Has anyone had the embassy send the package to a local DHL and picked it up there?

Which DHL is closest to the embassy?

Thanks all for the great help!!!!

Jon & Clau & Andrea & Arturo: The Bogota just sent us our Packet 3 & 4 electronically. You will be happy to know that as soon as they receive it, they send the email the exact same day. GOOD LUCK & GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaColombia Embassy Receives petition - what are the next steps?

Once the embassy has received the petition, what are the next steps? What paperwork is filled out and how is it sent? I am confused as to whether the DS 230 and DS 2100 are still used. The VJ embassy info says one thing... the Bogota Embassy website another (obviously I think the embassy website is more up to date) I want to do things correctly. Help! As i understand it, both the 156 and 156K have to be filled out under the new method. How are these forms submitted to the embassy? Are they faxed or emailed or are they brought at the time of the interview?

Thanks.

I am still behind you, but for what I know, you can look at the links above, it says it all. the DS-230 and DS-2100 needs to be sent as soon as possible after you get your case number. Get the number from NVC a few days after they get your package. Send the DS-230 and DS-2100 via e-mail. the 156 is done online, you must print 2 copies. The 156k is a single page pdf file. Both of the 156's are to be taken to the interview. Also the I-134 - Affidavit of Support (Must have W-2, 1040, a letter from your work, letter or letters from your bank (two copies each-Must read the instructions to fill in the I-134!!!), 6 passport fotos, I made 8.

Found a place to stay about 150 yards from the Embassy. Highly recommended

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaDS-156 Question Re Ex-Spouse , and Applicants' Fotos

For what I have read, there is no longer a requirement for the DS-230 and DS-2100 since September 2011. Only have to bring the required documentation to the interview, which is clearly stated in the DS-156K. Birth Certificate, Evidence of Engagement, Divorce Decree, Evidence of Financial Support (I-134 - Affidavit of Support-to include letter from job, letters from bank-read the instruction), etc... Also have to bring to the interview two (2) copies of the DS-156 which is done online. The DS-156K section 4, Marital status and the online DS-156 section 17, Marital Status, indicate the Marital status of the Beneficiary, other than that, you shouldn't worry about the DS-230. Also just read that the DAS Police certificate are not being requested to produce. Don't sign any forms until the interview. Once you have your NOA2, call the NVC within 5 or 7 days to get the BOGOTA case number. Just gotta read the Colombia threads. Hope it helps.

Some info I have jotted down:

NVC (603) 334-0700. Case is forwarded to NVC. I advise you to call them about 7 days after your approval date. Have your receipt number ready. Press 1 for English, the 5 to talk to an operator. Ask them if they received your case, and if yes, ask for your case number.

For K1 you need I-134, you will use I-864 later for the AOS – Adjustment of status (I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status - Apply for a Green Card)

At the physical, be SURE your fiancée receives an extra copy of the G-3025 shot record (she keeps this copy). Many beneficiaries fail to get this extra copy and end up needlessly getting duplicate vaccinations when it is time for them to AOS.

The visa office has access to interview dates and time scheduled for all visas. And it's free to talk to them. Try calling them at 202-663-1225.

You can call the Department of State Visa Services hotline at (202) 663-1225. Have the NVC case number handy when you call. They'll be able to tell you when the consulate has received the file and logged it into their system.

Marry file AOS and wait 3-4 months for AP approval - when you have AP card in your hand you can then go on a cruise.

For the interview you will need 2 copies of the DS156 and one of the DS156 K along with 6 passport photos of the applicant. Also needed at the interview will be passport, birth certificate, medical exam results, and DAS certificado judicial.

Osmin

6 Pictures: One (1) for the lab folks, One (1) for the Medical interview, One (1) per DS-156 forms (3 Total if only bring one person). That leaves 1 left for? I haven't figured out yet?

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaDS-156 Question Re Ex-Spouse , and Applicants' Fotos

I have heard that the first (documenatation) window does not like the fotos glued to the DS-156 form. Does anyone have experience as to how best attach the foto to the form. It says right on the form "staple or glue photo here". I just dont want to upset the person at the first window.

Secondly, on DS-230: My fiancee is divorced. Do I not include his name, noting "divorced" or state "None"

Thank You for your input,

TenEarly

Packet 3/4 says: PHOTOGRAPHS: Six (6) COLOR photographs taken within the past six months for each applicant. See http://travel.state....toreq_5334.html for photograph instructions. Altered or photo-shopped photos will be rejected. NOTE: You must attach one of these photographs to the DS-156 forms prior to the interview – please ensure any staples in the photograph are as far away from your face as possible.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaPaying Visa Fee - Colombia

I called the Immigrant Hotline and found my answer...I set up the account with her info, not mine. I only asked that question since I am paying the visa fee with my credit card, but the lady told me in ADDITION to the $350.00 visa, when her visa is approved, they want another $404.00 USD!!! I knew there was another fee at the time of the approval, but did not think it was that high, so just wanted all of you who are about to go through this to be aware!!

$404.00 for what? State Department says VISA fee is $350.00

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaPaying Visa Fee - Colombia

Thanks OZ62, the reason I asked this question was because since the embassy sends the beneficiary the instructions, I was not sure if the petitioner could pay and schedule the interview, so I'm also hoping I can do basically what you are planning to do.

Jon & Clau

I believe the bank payment is done in Bogota, but somehow you have to print something from the website and take this paper to the bank to pay for the VISA. Sounds like too much of a hassle. You can go to the website and read.

All I know, for the interview, you must bring the 156k, I already printed that document. Another one must be done online and you have to print 2 copies per person you are sponsoring. For what I have read in the package, you must have 6 passport pictures of her.

Each document gets one attached with a stapler, be careful, staple at the edge of the picture. So 1 for the 156k, 2 for the 156 (2 copies). 1 for the lab folks. 1 for the medical examination. I can't figure what the 6th is for? She has 8 pics just to be safe.

Found a place to stay that is within walking distance, approx 150 meters from the embassy. I hope they have a room when I get there, sounds like a great place. If you are going to stay for a several days, you can try to set a deal with the host.

It's a bed and breakfast place. Hot water, breakfast included. Please let us know how things go your way and Wish you the best of luck! The Cat is almost in the bag!!!

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaPaying Visa Fee - Colombia

Hi, we are preparing to schedule the interview and medical in Bogota and was wondering how folks have been paying the visa fee. The Embassy mentions three options...1)pay at Helm Bank, 2) pay with credit card on-line, 3) pay with credit card over the phone. Since my fiance' lives in Barranquilla, I am not sure there is a Helm bank in Barranquilla, but if there is not, the only option left is to pay with a credit card, which I(the petitioner) will have to do, so is there any issue with me paying the visa fee and scheduling the interview?

Thanks for your help!!

Jon & Clau

I plan to pay with my VISA and schedule the appointment. Once I have the appointment, I will ask my fiancée to call and set the lab appointment and the medical appointment about 4 days before the VISA appointment. I will then fly down from Miami. She will fly out of Barranquilla. We will meet in Bogota. Once the approved. We both plan to return, me to Miami, she to Barranquilla and wait for the VISA package. Once she has it, I will fly down to pick her up.
