K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresInvestigating Officer to sign approved petition
QUOTE (ColombianoGringo @ Dec 20 2007, 11:13 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Yenys,

Were you investigated because you had been in the US before or do they do it for everyone? My wife has never been outside of Colombia before, so I wonder if it applies to her.

I Think they do the same for everybody, but my guess is that take more time if the beneficiary have been at least once in the USA, It's just a Tought. I came to USA once before to meet my Husband, maybe for that our process took almost 6 weeks for the next step wich was the BGT number.

Hope that your process dont take this long, this is very stressful process, but when you are in God's hands and trust and believe that You really are in, make this process a lot easier.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresInvestigating Officer to sign approved petition
QUOTE (faith11 @ Dec 19 2007, 08:06 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello everyone, l am faith11.
My case was approved november 8,2007 after 232 days waiting and we haven´t made it to NVC yet. My husband called USCIS today and our case hasn´t been sent yet.
They said that the paperworks are being signed off by an investigating officer and when this is done then they send it.
My husband asked if there was anything wrong with the case and the woman said that nothing was wrong, that the petitions were approved.
l am very sad now, because its´more than a month and nothing yet for my case, when they say investigating officer could this be that there is anything wrong with our paperworks. Should l be worried about this or maybe l am just being paranoid.
This process has been so long and stressful that the only thing l want is to be over and finally be with my husband.
Does anybody here knows about this investigating officer signing approved petitions, and how long could this take?
Thanks.
Faith11.

Hi My Friend, Are you ever been in the USA Before? Because They did exactly the same with our process, they just check my background, to make sure everything was ok, So, Dont worry I guess this is the process they have to follow.

Greetings all !!!!

We would like to ask for advice from others that have the K-3 visa.

My wife arrived here in Miami on a K-3 VISA last weekend. I know we must do the i-485 and EAD next,
but the $1010.00 fee will have to be saved up by us as we had alot of expenses getting my wife here.
Hopefully by next month we can come up with the money or wait for the income tax refund.....

In the mean time, I would like to know if we can get her social security number so I can file her on my income tax
return. Can I get the SSN now, before filing the I-485 ???

ANY advice is appreciated !!!! Thanks

God Bless you and have a wonderful Christmas and New Years !!

heart.gif Brian and Yenys heart.gif

K3 visa holders cannot get a SSN until they have EAD. However, you can file a W7 with the IRS, along with your next or amended tax return and get her an ITIN. (Individual Taxpayer ID number) Just download a W7 form with instructions from irs.gov

THANKS FOR THE INFO, WE DID FILE THE W-7 AS YOU ADVISED.... good.gif

Hi there,

U won't be eligible for a SSN on a K-3 Visa initially. That is a another difference between the K1 and K3. K1 holders are eligible. Anyway, You will have to file your AOS along with the I-765 Application for Employment Authorization Document. Once you receive approval for 765 you can apply for a SSN. The approval may take 2-3 months. You may want to check with your local CIS office and see if you can file that form locally as opposed to filing it with the AOS documents. Be advised that you can file taxes without the SSN. You need to file for a ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) using form W-7. http://www.irs.gov/i...d=96287,00.html. U can use that number until you get an SSN for your wife.

God bless you both!

Diana,

A DAS is only for the beneficiary. You as the petioner and US citizen, do not need it. good.gif

My opinion is the Consul Officer did not see enough evidence of a on going relationship and
perhaps your Fiance did not answer the questions the way that they liked, or did not know answers to there questions whistling.gif .

Read this thread, Have as many pictures as possible, plane receipts, proof of money you send him or he sends you. Phone cards, email print outs
anything that can prove and show you have a relationship. This Colommbia Club has great advice and over 183 pages to read and see what works for others at the Interview.. Keep the faith and go to the interview with him prepares with all of tha above and you will get approved. good.gif

I have my K1 interview in 3 weeks' time, one week before Christmas. I was concerned about getting my passport back in time for Christmas, as my SO will be here by then, and we're due to fly to the UK together to spend Christmas with my family. I just called the US Consulate in Amsterdam to ask for advice and the lady was just so helpful. She said I can take an express mail envelope to speed things up (normally I wouldn't need to take anything). That office has been super-fast, sending packet 3 the same day as receiving the info from NVC, and sending packet 4 the day they received packet 3 from me. I thanked her for the efficiency we've seen (in comparison to the snail's pace at USCIS) and she said "Well I don't mess around with K1 visas. Especially not just before Christmas!" It was so nice to be able to thank someone who is having a direct hand in processing our case, especially someone who really seems to understand the pain and heartache we go through in being apart from our loved ones.

I just wanted to share this story with everyone to encourage you all!!

CONGRATULATIONS !!!!

It used to be that the beneficiary could personaly go to the Embassy 2 days after the visa had been granted to pick up the visa package. Now DOMESA is the Embassy chosen delivery service for visa packages and there is a kiosk in the Embassy that the CO will send you where you will make arraingements for delivery. You can have it delivered anywhere in Colombia including Bogota. We had it delivered to the place that we were staying in Bogota...it arrived in the morning on the 4th business day. I Matt y Fernanda!!!.. I did exactly the same, I changed my last name for my Husband's Lastname... I did not receive my Permanent Cedula, I just Receive a Temporal ID Called CONTRASENA, That was enough to leave the Country, I did not have any problem at the airport at all Thank to God. I guess she still keep her Old Cedula with her Single name on it... in the case she has a problem she can show them her Old ID Doesnt matter that the name Doesnt Match the most important is that the number ID will match.

Congrats on your approvals!

The way that I read it, does that mean that you (snoopy or Matt y Fernanda) didn't go to the interview?
Could your spouse say how many people were there that where not with a husband/wife?

For the past year I have been thinking that I would meet my wife in Bogota and go to the interview together. Afterwards we would return to California. Now with the recent Visa/Domesa delivery change I am not sure what to do. I want to go to the interview and I want to enter the US with her, but it is sooo possible that I can not do both because of time restraints.
Right now, I am thinking that maybe it might be better to let her go to Bogota and then if she is approved I would fly to her city and come back with her when she receives the visa.

If I had one choice I would prefer to enter the US with her, but I am not sure if it would be wiser to choose the interview. I know for a K1 it helps to have the spouse at the interview, but does anyone think it would make a difference for a K3?

Thanks!

I WAS THERE FOR MY WIFES K-3 INTERVIEW AND NEVER WAS ASKED A SINGLE QUESTION...(lucky) i HAVE BEEN TOLD IT DEPENDS ON YOUR PAPERWORK AND CIRCUMSTANCES OF HER BACKGROUND AND YOURS ALSO... THIS IS WHY THERE ARE 5 MINUTE INTERVIEWS AND LONG ONES, SOME UP TO 50 MINUTES....

I need a little help, My fiancées interview is scheduled for the 23 of January, My plan was to go down there on the 15th, help here with doctors app and paying the bank, get the visa and leave together on the 27th.

How long does it take to get the Visa after the interview? I am in the military so it is not easy for me to stay a long time. I was planning on buying us both tickets to leave on the 27th or 28th. When can we pick up the Visa after it gets approved?????
anyone know?

DOMESA is the shipper and located in the kiosk area of the Embassy in Bogota. They will tell you 6-8 days.
But we got ours in 3 days and called and picked it up at the DOMESA office in Cartagena.

You can NOT pick up the Visa at the Embassy anymore, they changed that rule last month and must be shipped to address of the
passport holder....

YOU WILL NEED AT LEAST 3-5 DAYS TO GET THE VISA AND THAN BUY YOUR TICKETS OR BE PREPARED TO PAY THE PENALTY FEE FOR CHANGING YOUR FLIGHTS......GOOD LUCK !!!!

Good Luck to all 31st. appointments, I know you guys will do just fine; we want to hear how things went.

I have a question regarding a K-3 visa documents, they're almost the same as for the K-1 but I need to be sure on what to do. unsure.gif

My husband’s interview will be on January 14, 2008, I paid a lawyer to do all the documents, BUT, my husband called me this morning and he’s kind of worry because the putting all the documents together, and in the same order the Embassy is requesting them the "Affidavit of Support" I sent is not the one the Embassy is asking for, the lawyer gave me I-134 and the Embassy is asking for the I-864 which is a longer form, he’ll be traveling to Bogota next Tuesday and if I need to send him I-864 it’ll have to be done by Wednesday.

PLEASE, any of you guys who already went can suggest on what to do? helpsmilie.gif

Thank you ……. Ana

good.gif HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU. kicking.gif

You will need the I-134 for the embassy interview and get it notarized. You will need the I-864 for AOS filing.
I know this to be true for a fact, because I brought both of the affadavits with me to the Embassy and they only wanted the I-134 and returned the I-864 to me. These affadavits should be notarized and include 3 years tax returns, although your only required to have one year. the other two are optional, but give more evidence for them to approve faster....Good Luck !!!

Just drop by to share the good news with you: OUR VISA WAS APPROVED. The interview last few minutes, three questions: how many times have your fiancé has visited you, how many times have you visited him and where did you live while doing your masters degree in USA. Did not ask for any evidence and everything was in Spanish. I will post more details latter on.

It was nice meeting some people from VJ, please let us now how it went for you guys!!!

good.gif CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR INTERVIEW AND APPROVED VISA !!!!! kicking.gif

Thank you everyone for your input on the dual citizenship issue. All this information gives Fernanda and I a lot to consider. I do not see the kids staying more than 3 months at a time in Colombia. I do not know if it will really be necessary for them to have dual citizenship.

Also, Fernanda had her appointment today with Dr. Roa. She said that she had to completely undress. She started to tell me something else was strange, but said she did not know how to explain it in english. So I will find out tomorrow. She is a nurse and told the nurse at the office that it was completely unnecessary. But the nurse insisted that she must undress.

I have another question for those of you who have been to your interview. Fernanda was saying something about having to pay more for the K-3 at the Embassy. I told her that the $100 at the Banco de Credito was all she had to spend. Are there any additional fees besides the interview fee at the Banco de Credito and the Domesa fee you must pay for the K-3 visa?

The charge now is $131.00 USD for the k-3 and k-1 visa application fee....you will not pay any other fee's at the Embassy, except the shipping charge from DOMESA to send the approved visa in passport to your house address....good luck

Thank you for your help. It is greatly appreciated. Did you pick up your visa at the Domesa office in Bogota or did you have it sent to your home?

HI Matt We Pick up The Visa at DOMESA OFFICE CARTAGENA, But we paid for the service that will Deliver it at your house because there is not more option, We Pick it up at the DOMESA OFFICE because we keep calling to DOMESA and They told us that they had our Visa there.

God Bless You,
