You dont have to send in any of the documents that are on the checklist. They are to be brought with you to your interview.
It should say on the instructions ....Step 1, Step 2 and Step 3.

Step one should say to send in the DS forms.

Unless the K-1 is different at the Consulate you are going to, but I thought all K-1's were given the same instructions.

I thought that too, but there are no steps. Just the list of the documents, and then ... All the documents should be mailed before an appointment can be scheduled.

Hi engfridak. :D

How are you guys doing? Very well I hope. I can not answer for the U.S. Embassy in Albania but for Bogota, Colombia the only documents that you fax and send in by courier are; a copy of passport, OF-169, DS-2001 and DS-230 part 1. Every other paper, documents and everything else is taken in the date of the interview.

Try asking other VJ members that are going through your countries Embassy and if not call, fax or e-mail them. Another thing you could try, is to call NVC they might know because the State Department send me (the USC) a packet 4 just like the Embassy sent to my fiancée, so they might know. I wish both of you the best, you both deserve it and keep me in touch.

Good luck,

I say disclose it and the evidence of its treatment to be on the safe side. Most STDs are significant to the US government in terms of visa issuance, so I would say err on the side of truth. You'd be surprised what the US government does consider to be a risk to public health. You haven't specified which STD it was, but rest assured it's probably on their list anyway!

And your NHS doctor may THINK they can't access your medical records, but they can if you sign a release which they may ask you to do anyway if they have questions...or else no visa. I think not disclosing it (if they ask you about it) may technically constitute fraud and could cause enormous problems for you later down the line all for the sake of saving a small amount of time now. I don't think disclosing a treated STD will stand in your way; check up online about that.

I agree.

On my letter from the National Visa Center, they listed my new Case Number. Mine started with "BGT". This number is what is posted on the US Embassy's web site:

Well I will be in Bogota the night before our Interview at the Embassy, 21 SEP 06.

My fiancee will be there in Bogota on the morning of the 18th to do her medical exams and other last minute items like photos and such.

If any of you guys have questions about the area, hotels, airlines, etc. Let me know. Also my fiancee would LOVE to meet anyone else that will be going through the process as she has said she will be going crazy being in Bogota (new city to her) waiting for the final day.

So if you have questions or would like to forward contact information so your fiancee can ask questions in spanish...just ask.

Also I found a great deal, in my opinion on a place to stay. It is a one bedroom apartment with free breakfast, phone calls to the US and Canada and internet for only $45 a night. They also have single rooms w/ private bath for as cheap as $30 a night.

Go to www.BogotaApartments.com and tell Ingrid that Abel Ramirez sent ya!

Congratulations..I have a question how can you find out trough the embassy website your appointment date before package 3 arrive? I try and I have not been able to do it

Hi Ovet16,

There is no way to know your interview date before packet #3. Your or your fiancé(e) must send in packet #3 to the U.S. Embassy in Bogota. If packet #3 gets there before the cut-off date which varies from 12 to the 19th of the month, then you get the interview the following month. If not then you get it the month after that.

Please to learn more read the threads that I have written. Three of the most important topics you need to know are right here on this section; “Colombian Club”, “What is included in Packet#3”, and “Tracking Instructions for DHL”.

Good luck,

.. any idea on how soon the Visa will be issued ? is this an overnight wait or does it take longer to receive it ?

I have been told by several here at VJ that the visa in Bogota are issued the next business day. They use to send them to you via messenger, but I think you now leave your passport and come the next day to pick it up.

Thanks. I hope it is the next day. If you can keep us posted on this we would really appreciate it.

Thanks to the both of you for your input...

Well, considering the fact that it took 3 days for Danni's fiancee to recieve Packet 3 -- as well as your comment that some recieve it, some don't....

I will just have to prepare the DS-230 for my wife and have her fax it in. Now, my question is: is there a barcode on the DS-230 when you recieve it from the Embassy?

If so, I will have to prepare one.

Thanks again,

j

It does not mather. We send in a different DS-230, just like many other VJ members. The DS-230 we sent did not have a barcode.

Hi James,

It varies from person to person and city to city because of the bad postal problems in Colombia. Some people never get packet# 3 or 4.

I have a packet #3 but it is for K-1, I do not know the differences between K-1 and K-3 packets. Let me know if you want a copy and read my threads right here in this section. I will move them up so that you can read the tips, advice, short-cuts and more information. I and other VJ members have done these things good luck.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionIMPORTANT: Time to receive Visa in Bogota

We have worked very hard to have all the requested paperwork, in fact she has printed out around 250 emails, has all my phone records for the last year, hotel receipts, airplane receipts, engagement ring receipt, flower receipts, cards, bank transactions (wire transactions to her account), and photos. I really hope whoever conducts her interview is in a good mood!!

The printing out of emails is really overkill. Even the Emabssy people say DO NOT put a bunch of email print outs and evidence of relationship in to the initial folder which the consul will use to decide on issuing a visa. They merely tell you to hold on to the information so IF they ask you for it they can view it. I selected about 10 emails throughout the 1 year time period most of them in the beginning half since I did not have much other evidence of phone conversations during that period.

Thanks for the insight, I guess you could say that both Luisa and I are "sofoco" Luisa has all the paperwork that I mentioned with her right now and she is planning on taking it all to the interview in the morning!! I only hope now that she does not get the lady the rejects all applications that I keep reading about!!

Well I will be sure to post the news, hopefully good in the morning!!

Hi Pachuco,

Let me be the first to congratulate both of you.  I am also glad that you got the visa and did not have to wait the entire weekend. My wife, fiancée at the time got approved on Friday but had to wait until Monday at 4:00pm to pick it up. I did not go because of work.

I am glad your interview was easy but trust me there has been people that is was not easy and they have written threads about it. But the problem is that VJ changed its look in February 2006 and a lot of threads were lost or archived. When my wife went to her interview two other women were rejected; one because they only had one year's tax returns instead of three and the second because her fiancé (the USC) was married three times and she knew this but the officer said that she should not married a USC that has been married three times and I have many, many more horror story. Of course some people fly right through but no one knows who is going to be.

I wish the best of luck and have a good trip.

Our info was sent to Bogota the week of 8/10 and still have not recieved packet 3....

So, we went ahead and completed a DS-230 and faxed it in to the embassy along with a copy of my wife's passport and a copy of the I-797 notice for the approved I-129f (for a K3 visa).

This process was/is documented in the "colombia club" thread, but that group consists mostly of K1 applicants and I wasnt certain if K3'ers could do the same. But, my wife and I are not waiting any longer --

James

Hi JamesFreddy,

Good job in getting the ball rolling because a lot of people going through the U.S. Embassy in Bogota did not get packet #3 because the mail system is so bad in Colombia. This is why I have posted different thread on what is included in packet #3, what steps to take and I have e-mail packet #3 to VJ members who request them.

Good luck,

Peter Miami

It can't hurt. we did the same and faxed the DS-230 Part 1 and also the 156. The woman my fiance(e) spoke to at the Bogota Embassy said to check the embassy web for the interview dates but currrently the September interviews are the only ones posted. The woman also said said it could take up to 30 days.

Hi Salgood,
Read the threads that I have posted and it will tell you how the cut-off dates work. It is in the “Colombian Club” thread.

Good luck,

Peter Miami

Peter --- thanks for your input and offer of help!

I had read through your threads and determined the contents of the Packet 3 -- the hard part was getting my wife to do some of the work filling them out!!! lol...

All kidding aside, I think it would have been best to just simply compile the forms and send them in rather than waiting a month for them to send the packet out. It truly was a waste of a month or so. Now, we are a bit confused regarding the process of:

1. Recieving notice of an interview appointment. That is, the website says,

"All appointments are scheduled through the Visa Information Call Center.... For more information, please phone the Visa Information Call Center, which is accessed by using a PIN code issued through Banco Colpatria. Applicants in Colombia who wish to arrange an appointment or obtain visa information from the Visa Information Call Center can use any Red Multibanca ATM or go online to purchase a PIN code through Banco Colpatria"

So -- I guess we DO NOT wait for packet #4?????

2. Should I (US Citizen) or my wife (Colombian Citizen) deal with calling the Visa Info Center to schedule the appointment?

3. When should we call in to schedule the appointment? How do we know if they recieved our Packet 3 info (that was faxed in yesterday)???

Thanks again,

james

Most of the people that work at the Embassy give you a lot of misinformation just like when you call the Service Centers, NVC, or the 800 number. You got to be kidding this is the most ridicules statement I have every reed. If they could at least do one thing right but they can’t even do that. Like KarenCee said why don’t they send the TSC or CSC petitions to VSC or NSC? If they are great employee and a great service provider. Why don’t they give any information along the way except everything takes 60, 90, 120 days if you are lucky one or two things take 30 days? If any company would do this they would go bankrupt before they would even open.
