Maybe I am wrong or I do not understand the question but why would you need the birth certificate for the cosponsors? If your are talking about your birth certificate you send a copy with the I-129F package and then your fiancée would have the original with her at the interview.

Because it states that your process might take 60 day’s, that does not have to be the case. You could get your NOA2 tomorrow or in a month. I know it sucks to wait!

Hi JanaStepho,

It is another canned response; yes I have seen other people post the same letter. I do not know how long it will take for you to get your NOA2 but it probably will be way less than 45 days. I have also seen people post the same letter but with 60 days instead of 45 days.

touches mean nothing, so i don't understand why people even bother to post them. 100 touches does nto equal 1 approval. so what is the point?

ryecatcher,

The problem was you received your NOA2 in two weeks, so you would not understand! When other or most members have had to wait 3, 4, 6 or more months.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAbout interview at Embassy
Hi loonphang,

This varies from country to country and Consulate Officer to Consulate Officer. But I can tell you that at the U.S. Embassy in Colombia it was very important the CO’s asked that in the interview. One particular fiancée said she forgot it in the hotel and the CO told her to go and get it. I am not telling you that is the only thing they look at but that is one of many things some CO look at and if you are border line this may put you over. Of course no where that I have seen it states that you must buy an engagement ring.

Remember you have the burden of proving your relationship.

Good luck,

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionwhy.....

rebeccajo,

An amendment was made to the INA in about 1996 or 1997 creating new sponsorship requirements for immigrants. Those new requirements are embodied in the I-864. The INS issued a temporary order implementing the new section of the INA in 1997, it took another 9 years for their successor USCIS to issue the final order!

Yodrak

Ok. Hope this is in the right forum.

The I-134 Affidavit of Support is not legally binding on the sponsor.

But the I-864 is.

Why is that? I realized last night that I have no clue what the legal reason is.............

Thanks Yodrak, you have a wealth of knowledge.

Hi Salgood411,

Congrats on finally getting packet#3. It is about time! That is why I posted threads to help other VJ members going through the U.S. Embassy in Colombia an easier route but you did not decide to take it. Good luck and I hope things go smoother from here on out.

If you get packet #3 to the Embassy before that cut-off date that varies from the 16th to the 20th from month to month that means you will have the interview the following month. If you do not make the cut-off date then it will be the following month after that. This means to get a November 2006 interview date you need to get packet #3 to the Embassy before October 16th to the 20th, I would get it to them before October 16, 2006.

Good luck,

Peter Miami

Hey Rodney,

I just finish sending you the DS-2001, packet# 3 & 4. Inside packet #3 you have the form OF-169. The police certificate she gets it at DAS, tell her to call and make an appointment because she needs to go to a specific place to pay the fee usually it is at a bank. This is why I asked you in which city she lives.

Good luck and let me know if I can help you with anything.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionBogota embassy questions
Hi Rodney,

Read my threads right here in this section; “Tracking Instruction for DHL”, “What is Included in Packet #3” and “Colombian Club”. There I give tips, instructions, short-cuts and general advice.

It took three days for my package to go from NVC to the U.S. Embassy in Bogota, Colombia and I track it all the way through. There is no problem getting the Medical appointment and Lab work but you must have the “interview letter” that comes in packet #4 from the U.S. Embassy in Bogota, Colombia.

Once the petition gets to the Embassy you or your fiancée faxes and sends by courier (Servientrega); a copy of your fiancées passport, OF-169, DS-2001 and DS-230 part 1. If the Embassy gets these documents before the cut-off date (varies from month to month 16th to the 20th) then you get the interview the following month. If not by the cut-off date you get the interview the month after that.

I can send you a copy of packet 3 & 4, just send me a e-mail address with atleast 8 MB of space in the inbox because each packet is in PDF file and it is about 4 MB.

If you have any questions let me know.

Good luck,

Hi Rodney,

USCIS:
If you call 1-800-375-5283, wait to hear the guy's voice (well, it's a guy here anyway).

Then push 1 (i think for english, if it applies).

As soon as you hear his voice again, push 4

Then push 0

Then push the * key

That ALWAYS gets me right through I absolutely cannot stand listening to those automated things when I know I need to speak to a live person, and I used to have a lot of questions.

Also, try to call at 7:59 am local time. They open the lines at 8 am last I knew, and it takes maybe 20-30 seconds to push all the buttoms. It's amazing how long you've got to wait if you wait til 8:05 or 8:10!

I'm going for a visit to Bogota to see Carol in a couple weeks. I will be there for the embassy appointment also, but I would like to leave the money for the medical and embassy cost on this trip.

What cost and how much each?

Medical ?
Visa ?
any other?

Trying to plan ahead as you can see. I'm in the NVC sinkhole right now.

Thanks.
Rodney

Medical: From http://bogota.usemba.../wwwsimve.shtml

note: this is regarding "Immigrant Visas", but I would *assume* it's the same for Non-Immigrant applications as well.

"For every medical exam the applicant must have the appointment letter, DS-230 forms, three photographs and police certificate(s). If the applicant does not have these documents on the day of the medical exam, the physician will not see him/her.

As of January 1, 2005, the exams will have a maximum price of Col$255,000 per person:

Col$120,000 for the general physical examination
Col$135,000 for blood tests (serology and HIV) and X-rays
The applicant must pay the fees for the laboratory exams and medical examinations in cash. Checks are not accepted. Any fees for additional exams (different from the ones mentioned above) ordered by the physician, are the responsibility of the applicant.

Visa: $100.00 USD

From http://bogota.usemba.../wwwsc185.shtml

"Each applicant must pay the non-immigrant processing fee of $100.00 personally at the Banco de Crédito"

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Peter. You've been a big help to us already. I am sure going to try to your use suggestions to quicken the process. I have actually already printed the forms off the Bogota embassy website...and will get them completed.

Based on my timeline, do you think it is too early for me to have my wife get her medical exam and police report? Also, I can complete by I-134 at any time - I have all the info. Do you think it is too early to complete, sign, and date that form. I guess I'm just anxious and want to have everything ready to go. But I know it's not smart to have it done TOO far in advance (don't want them to reject anything because of "old age").

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

On your first question the reason the website says that is because that was the procedure that the U.S. Embassy use to use up to the middle to end part of last year.

On you second point I forgot the actual Spanish word used but it means that when your fiancée gets her birth certificate from the government she must get the long form that has her parents name and it has some margin or side notes. Just make sure she tells them is for a fiancée visa and that it is the long form. The local government in her city will know.

Good luck,

Peter Miami

Hi Mike,

On the Doctor appointment, Lab work and paying the bank fee your fiancée can not do it until she has the “Interview Letter” that comes in packet# 4 from the U.S. Embassy in Bogota, Colombia. This is the procedure for K-1’s so I am pretty sure it applies to K-3’s also.

On completing the forms it is alright do them ahead of time but do not date them until very close to the interview. Johanna my wife, fiancée at the time and I had almost all the documents done by December 2005 and when I went to visit her for Christmas and New Years vacation I toke all the documents done and if not I finish everything that I could. So when I left after that vacation almost everything was done. Except the DAS report, Doctor, Lab work and paying the bank fee because this had to be done in Bogota and we could not do it without the interview letter. Johanna lived in Armenia which is about eight hour bus ride to Bogota. Johanna finally got her interview on March 3, 2006.

Get everything done and do not date it or future date something like that “Letter of Intent” and other documents. Wait until it gets closer for her to get the DAS report.

Good luck,

Peter Miami

Peter Miami

Also interested in you advice. Already married and applying for 130 and 129F for K3, should I get my wife to complete medical and police report, just got NOA on I-130, since I am visiting on Thanksgiving and Xmas or by getting to info/exams to early am I wasting her time. Does med report and police report have time frame for expiration on processes ??

Thanks erporsche

Hi erporsche,

Read what I wrote above to Mike some of this advice will help you also. Your wife can not complete the Doctor or Lab work until she gets the "Interview Letter" that comes in Packet# 4. Get most if not all the documets done and take them on your vacation.

Good luck,

What did they tell you can you go back with more evidence of knowing and being with each other before April? Do you have or can you acquire more evidence; credit card statements, airline tickets, passport stamps, money exchange, hotel invoices, receipts, etc.

If you met in the summer of 2005 you should have some evidences; airline tickets, passport stamps, hotel receipts, telephone call log, credit card statements, etc.

They are not worried about current status according to you so concentrate on evidence prior to April 2006.
