CONGRATS! i hear wedding bells already! :D

I will tell you something funny... I told him that yesterday, but he says he will not hear them until he sees them, because I went to Peru Sept last year with the intention of marrying him (we have known each other all our lives, but at the point I had not seen him in 6 or 7 years, except through Skype) well everything was ready for us to get married, even his sister flew in from DC for that, and a couple days before I flew to Peru I got cold feet. I was scared and told him I wanted to see him in person and make sre that what we felt was still real. Well, he was not very happy about it, but he is always willing to make me happy, and ofcourse understood the way I felt. So, I went to Peru and for 2 weeks, we had some great talks and he met my daughter and we reconnected jst as we always did ! So when we came back home, I filed for K-1 a month later. Now, we have a date to get married, but he wont believe it until I go through with it and he loves to constantly remind me about it, lol But anyways, maybe this story is just funny and amusing to me, sorry, but the moral is I HEAR WEDDING BELLS TOO !!!! LOL

Congratulations, si man! :)

Now, amidst so much else to do in a short time, have him get official copies of every document that would be inconvenient, expensive, or impossible to procure once he's in the U.S.: multiple copies of his birth certificate; school transcripts; professional certifications; divorce certificate if applicable; medical records (a vaccination list, stamped by his physician or clinic, can be invaluable); and anything else that you can think of.

If possible, have him renew his Peruano driver's license NOW for the longest term possible -- or, if he doesn't drive, have him do everything in his power to earn one. You'll both appreciate this later, trust me, si man.

Thanks TBone !!! This is awesome advice, I will tell him immediately to start getting these documents together. I would have never thought of this. :bonk:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsIf the worst happens....

Ok.. I have a question not that I don't trust and love my fiance.. I just want to be prepared for anything and
everything... Once my fiance has his green card, what would happen if he decides to leave me???? Could I file for his green card to be taken away since he is no longer with me?????????

First off, once the visa is approved, you guys need to get married. You have 90 days from the time he enters the US to do that. If you guys decide not to get married, he goes back to the DR. If you do get married, then once that is done, you have to adjust status. When all of that is done, he will receive a 2-year conditional residency (green card.) It's conditional because you guys have been married less than 2 years. Ninety (90) days before the expiration of the conditional residency, you need to apply for removal of conditions.

You can find the details to each step on the guides section in VJ.

However, once he has a green card, you can't hold it for ransom or take it away from him. If you are having insecure thoughts, then don't go through the process.

oh I didnt realize that status had to be adjusted.. So I guess in other words then I am able to do something about it at least.... another question then would be what type of evidence could u have if the person just decided to walk out on you or found another woman???

Then you report that to USCIS for visa fraud.

Hehehe! I like this one.
On yahoo messenger you can sometimes send the link to the other person and it will let you share the same video(play-pause etc). Otherwise it's about timing and syncronizing, just like watches(hence the "1 2 3..play!", atleast that's what came to mind when I read it).

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsSerious Stress...

We had a 5 hour difference and that was bad enough. 16 must be very stressful!

How did we cope? Well, I have to admit, during the period of wait I had no life outside of work and David. On weekdays, I would get home from work, eat....and then retire to my bedroom to talk with him. On weekends, I would use the time difference to my advantage and get everything done I needed to do before he woke up. Then, we would spend all day talking, watching movies together (1,2,3...then press play!) he would read me to sleep, leaving my video open whilst he went about his business. We lived and breathed for one another, spending every second we could.....talking, laughing, FIGHTING!!, all the normal stuff. Sometimes I resented him being so far away and having no independence during the long wait. Mostly, I just could not wait for the day when we could just sit in a room together. Not talking. Just being together.

In fact, when I first arrived, I told him not to talk to me anymore. We'd talked enough!

That seems so far away now. The key seems to be to look to the future during the wait. I know him better than any man I ever spent time with because of the time spent talking. It doesn't matter that people tell you this, because the visa wait is like purgatory.....but once on the other side, you'll tell others during their wait that......it. will. be. okay.

And the record, I would have used every family connection I had to speed up the process. The other side of the coin is that.....the wait strengthened our relationship and to this day makes us realize just how much we love each other even when we are biting each others heads off. Many relationships do not endure the visa process. Ours did. Life is gooooooood......full of the stresses of all relationships.....and goooood!

How do you watch movies together online? I would love to know how to do this...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsSerious Stress...

If your future father-in-law was Deputy Chief for USCIS would YOU ask for help? If you say no, you're lying. Sorry for being so blunt but EVERY SINGLE person on this site would.

I don't understand why everyone seems so shocked and appauled that I would even mention it. Come on...

Sure we would, but your post's vibe, to me, is that since he works there, you are entitled to special treatment...which is not the case.

Everyone should know, before getting involved with this process that it is very long, unpredictable and expensive. It is very hard being apart from our loved ones and the hard thing is that there is very little that we can control. It is a true test of love and commitment. I know it's hard for you, everyone on this board understands what you are feeling. We are all experiencing it now or have in the recent past. We're here to support each other and encourage each other.

With that said, I don't think that anyone has the right to bypass anyone else just because you are stressed out and frustrated. It's not fair to others who have been waiting. People need to be realistic when they start this process.

That is just my take on things.

I do wish you the best in your journey and hope that the process moves smoothly and quickly.

To answer your question: my husband and I set a time in the evening to talk on Skype.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsSerious Stress...

I'm not discounting what you went through, you musn't be so judgemental, dear.

Also, I think if you were in the situation where a parent/relative of your significant other worked in a higher position in USCIS you would MOST DEFINITELY see if they can help you. I'm sure that even tho you probably have outstanding morals/principles, NO ONE would say, "You know, I'm sure there are probably tons of other people waiting so just send mine to the bottom of the pile." We all want our cases processed right away. I get it that its a small drop in the bucket but I asked for ideas on dealing with the stress of it all, not for you to be rude and snotty to me.

I am sorry for being so blunt, by why should you get special treatment just because a relative works in a a USCIS center? YOu should wait your turn just like everyone else.

Middle East and North AfricaDS-230 question

i know its a silly question it says to send original + copies of police report , marriage certif , etc....
now i asked somebody who just went through the same process and he said he didnt have to send originals they asked his wife about original on the interview !!!??
so shall i send them or what ?
also do i have to wait for NVC to recieve my I-864 and approve it before sending the DS230 or go ahead and mail the ds230 i already paid the IV fee and they accpet it .?
thx for ur help

You are supposed to send in the original documents. If you don't, then they willbe requested at the embassy. The NVC will send you a list of what was sent and what you need to bring in the interview letter they email you.

The DS230 can be completed and sent regardless of the status of the I-864. This document is sending beneficiary contact information to the NVC only.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresnvc completed!!!!

Hello there. Did you sign up to get email updates? Our case was completed on Feb. 14th and we missed the interviewing scheduling for that month. This past Monday night, I received and email from NVC with the appointment date for the interview, list of what to my wife needs to bring to her interview and they also gave us a checklist of what they have received (police cert, birth cert etc...) stating if it's sufficient or needs to be brought to the interview. Previously on many of my calls to NVC, I asked if anything will actually be sent to her house by mail and they said no since we signed up to receive info and updates by email. All she has to bring are more evidence, the medical, her passport, pictures and her pretty self to the interview. I'm booking my ticket this week to go be with her and sit in front of the Embassy ready to do blackflips when she comes out with that smile. Keep calling the NVC. They told me scheduling only takes place during the second week of the month and we received our notice the second day of March. Good Luck !!!

I did not know they did this for the interview. I though the information came from the embassy. Maybe that's just for the finance visas.

Good to know. Thanks.

Also was wondering will I receive the packets ? and can I fill out the forms or does my wife have to...asking because She might not know how to read English perfectly..

I don't think that the petitioner receives copies of the packets. You may want to have her scan and email you to documents in the packet or fedex you a copy so you can review...let me know what happens as I would like to know as well.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresnvc completed!!!!

Hey all..

I just received information from the automated system that my case was completed on march 4th....now what??? What happens now??? What should I expect???

That's great news!!! Congrats!

Now, the NVC will transfer your case file to the appropriate embassy. If my understanding is correct, the NVC should have provided an interview date. With the spousal visas, since we work closely with the NVC (unlike the finace visas) they are supposed to set up the appointment.

If I were you, I would call the NVC on Monday (I always call at night after 9pm ET...I only wait like 5 minutes or no waiting at all) and find out your interview date. The embassy, once they receive your case file and review it, should contact the visa applicant (your spouse) about having the medical exam. They should be sending your spouse a packet of paperwork. It may be more secure for the spouse to physically go by and pick up the paperwork depending on the mail system in that particular country.

VJ has information about the the different consulates/embassies and if you go back to the website where you paid your IV bill, on the link they give you for the paperwork, there is a link for interview preparation and also a chance to specify your consulate/embassy because each has their specifics of what they require.

Hope this helps...if I made a mistake, I'm sure someone will correct me, but I have been reading about this lately while waiting for the NVC to finally approve our case as well.

Good luck!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDOS Specialist...wrong advice given???

I just got off the phone with a "DOS Specialist" who really didn't seem like she knew what she was talking about. There were a lot of "I think so?" given by her :(

SO...that being said...I am asking for some advice from the experts at Visa Journey! :)

My husband lives in the Dominican Republic. I am the US Citizen. We received our notice the interview for April 6th, 2011.

Should HE be expecting documents in the mail? The woman on the phone said "no" and that "he could take the email we received to the medical appointment" and that just seems wrong to me.

If anyone could offer advice/experience...we would really appreciate it :)

Thank you!!

My understanding, since we are filing for spousal spousal visas, is that they send out a packet to the beneficiary, but the NVC sends the petitioner a copy of the interview letter via email. The only other documents that your husband should be submitting will be his medical stuff, another police report (DR wants a second one submitted at the interview even though you submitted one with the IV paperwork to the NVC), and a copy of the interview letter. Everything else you bring will be for supporting evidence.

Please, please let me kow how it goes...I am still desperately waiting for an interview date from the NVC...I want this whole thing to be OVER and have him HERE.
amesaFemaleDominican Republic2011-03-09 16:13:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNVC pending interview date

It will totally be updated and your case complete soon. The standard answer is 15-20 business days and it will most likely be A LOT quicker :) AND...the good thing is that interview dates for the DR are coming with only about a 6 week wait time so...start compiling your interview stuff...it's going to be here soon!

Keep the faith. You will get through this :)

Thanks...I called the NVC last night and they told me that our case file was completed on the 28th. HOWEVER, there were no more available interview slots at the embassy in the DR until May and they are waiting for information from the embassy in order to proceed. So again, we are in limbo.

My nerves are completely frazzled. I seriously need a vacation.
amesaFemaleDominican Republic2011-03-30 20:55:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNVC pending interview date
Ok, it's my time to post a rant.

I totally hate this immigration process. I hate how it keeps my husband and I apart with weeks and months of unsurety of what is going to happen and when. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it!!!

I submitted my AOS packet to the NVC in early February. It was reviewed and processed in about 3 weeks. Hubby didn't get his paperowrk to me on time, so that was sent in to the NVC on 2/26 and it arrived on the 28th...I have the freaking green receipt card proving it.

I have been patiently waiting all this month of March...calling about once or twice a week after the 15th...everyone telling me that the NVC is pending receipt of the IV packet and I kept telling them that is was delivered on 2/28...I just called again this morning and some nasty guy answered the phone and told me that the case was updated on Friday, 3/25...that they now have 'received' the IV packet and that we need to wait 15-20 business days!!!

I ALREADY WAITED THE FREAKING 15-20 BUSINESS DAYS!!!

Why do they do this to us??? I mean, good grief...I see all these people just easing their way through the NVC and they have to cause me issues when I have submitted everything they wanted with the proper cover sheets, I have paid all of the stupid fees...and they are making me wait longer.

I guess just because USCIS approves the petition doesn't mean everything else is smooth sailing...

I cannot wait until this nightmare is OVER!!! UGH!!! What a great way to start the week. You can guarantee that I will be calling them every freaking morning and every night until this gets completed with an interview date.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresInterview Scheduled!
My husband and I both received an email tonight from the NVC...they finally scheduled us for an interview at the Santo Domingo embassy on May 4th....in three weeks. I'm kinda freaking out because it's seriously right around the corner. We submitted everything required, so our case is complete as far as documentation, it's just a matter or bringing the supporting evidence, the medical exam results for him, the passport fotos and the police certificate.

I feel jittery. Anyone ever feel like that? I mean, after all this time apart, we are literally weeks away from really starting our lives as a complete family unit. I am feeling all sorts of emotions. Anyone else experience this?

We are both really happy and excited...relieved. I just feel like there is a lot to do in a small amount of time.

My fiance also got poked quite a bit and told me that the nurse was not particularly skilled at administering injections... He was very upset thay day. At least your hubby is done with his medical exam!

Best wishes! (F)

Yes, I felt really, really bad for him. He just told me, 'It's because I love you.'

What a person has to go through to get over here. I asked him if he had a list of immunizations that he had received and he told me no (I had read somewhere that if a person has it, to bring it as itmay reduce the number of injections) so I think he got everything...poor guy. Half in one arm and half in the other.

He was told to pick up the results a day before the interview. Is that what you both had to do?

Yes, you have to pay this fee. Take the printout of the notification email from the NVC and Banco Popular will know what to do. They will give you a receipt and a piece of paper attached to the receipt. At the interview they will take the piece of paper attached and give you back the receipt page :)

I am SO excited for your interview coming up!!!!!

Thanks!

So, it's just taking the interview letter document that was emailed to both of us, take it to the bank, have them verify that and pay the fee...take the receipt to the interview.

Correct?

Easy enough...I was freaking out about what on earth they were talking about because it doesn't specify WHAT document is to be verified. Sheesh.

We are very excited. Hubby had his medical exam today...had 8 shots. LOL. If it had been me, I would have passed out on the floor between the shots and the blood tests.

Anything else we need to pay for besides the letter verification?

Thanks, Carlos' Wife...I knew someone would respond. :) There ain't no way I am paying $8 to call the Snto Dmgo embassy.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresSanto Domingo Embassy
To all my pals that have been, are presently, or will be interviewed at the Santo Domingo Embassy:

In reviewing information found on the embassy's website for the interview preparation, there is a note indicating that "as soon as you have obtained the documents that are applicable in your case, take this sheet to Banco Popular branch in the Dominican Republic to pay $13US plus the applicable taxes per applicant. This fee is the offical verification of your records. Only applicants who will be age 18 or older on the day of their interview need to pay this fee. Make suretotake the Banco Popular receipt tothe consular section on the day of your interview."

Guys...what the heck is this? We are doing a CR1 visa, so all of our original documents were submitted to the NVC and they have already sent them over to the embassy. Besides the medical exam, passport pictures, second police certificate and our supporting evidence, what else are we supposed to pay for?

Our AOS fee was already paid, our IV bill was already paid in full.

I ask anyone that has received a CR1 visa through Santo Donmigo to please, please respond.

Thanks!
