Does my fiance need a police certificate for the consular interview in Juarez if he had never been convicted of a crime? The Juarez Consular website says:

"Persons convicted of a crime must obtain a certified copy of each court record and any prison record, regardless of the fact that they may have benefited subsequently from an amnesty, pardon, or other act of clemency."

That sounds like it is asking for the record for people that have committed a crime. Can anyone who has been through the process in Juarez help? If you don't have any convictions do you need to get one? The reason we want to avoid getting one is that my fiance would have to go to Mexico City to get it. Does anyone know of another way of getting a paper like the "constancia de antecedentes registrales" without going to Mexico City?
I'm trying to decide if my fiance should get one as well. The language of the instructions lead me to think the exact same as you. From doing a lot of reading in the Juarez forum it seems that most people get one and take it to the interview but it is never asked for. My fiance is going to look into getting one here in Queretaro before she leaves for Juarez on April 2nd but if she can't get it, I'm not going to sweat it.

Don't you just love the wonderful "instructions" on the Juarez website? tongue_ss.gif If one was to only follow what it says on the fiance instructions page, it would lead to a certain denial for lack of information.

Can you tell me on what page of the consulate's website does it say that as I can not find that information!

What visa are you applying for? If you are applying for a K-1 Visa when you receive the appointment letter from Juarez, you are directed to the following website address:

http://ciudadjuarez....visa-forms.html

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks CG,
I'm talking about this web page. The line I quoted is number 5.
Thanks for any help you can give.

That's right your fiance can just fill out all of the paperwork from the website and you don't actually need the letter because you can get a copy there in Juarez. You do have to wait for them to tell you the letter and packet 3 have been sent. My fiance is from a state with very little mail service so we wont be waiting for the letter to arrive.

So is your congressman's office going to call Juarez for you in two weeks or are you going to call?

ok, so i got our noa2 today. I'm wondering how long it takes the embassy in Juarez to get you the open invitation letter, packet 3. I'm trying to get a rough timeline laid out. Are they timely, or should I start the ball rolling with my congressman?

I want to know exactly the same thing. It looks like the timelines say on average it is 72 days from the time received until the interview but that sounds way too long. I am sure some people don't go right away for whatever reason. I also saw in the Juarez forum that several people recently went ahead and write their congressman. I am torn about whether to call the Juarez embassy (since it is so expensive) or if I should just go ahead and write Mitch McConnell.

Unless Juarez differs, Mexican auto insurance will not break your bank. It runs from midnight to midnight of each day.

A taxi or other mode of transportation may be a better bet for you. Do a Google search for "El Paso Convention & Visitors' Bureau" and follow up with what you learn there.

As with any Texas/Mexico border town, it's best to stay in the tourist or business areas during daylight hours, and to keep your wits healthily about you at all times.

I did the google search and here is what the El Paso Convention & Visitors' Bureau says:
The situation in Ciudad Juarez is of special concern. Mexican authorities report that more than 1,800 people have been killed in the city since January 2008. Additionally, this city of 1.6 million people experienced more than 17,000 car thefts and 1,650 carjackings in 2008. U.S. citizens should pay close attention to their surroundings while traveling in Ciudad Juarez, avoid isolated locations during late night and early morning hours, and remain alert to news reports. A recent series of muggings near the U.S. Consulate General in Ciudad Juarez targeted applicants for U.S. visas. Visa and other service seekers visiting the Consulate are encouraged to make arrangements to pay for those services using a non-cash method.

Of course none of this is news to us. We have heard about the violence in Juarez for years. One of my students is from there and yesterday I mentioned to him that I may be going there soon and asked for some advice, he said, "be very careful." Needless to say, we will take care of each other while we are there.

Plane tickets from home to Juarez are about $750.00 but from home to El Paso they are about $200.00. I thought I could just fly to El Paso and rent a car and drive to Juarez. Has anyone here done that? How did that work out?

I know this is not something you guys are thinking about at this point but TRY to get a copy of your physical to carry with you from Juarez. The ONE Civil surgeon withing hours of here is making Roberto pay again for another physical. They insist that they will not fill out his records for AOS unless he has it redone. I have seen several forums on VJ that talk about the Civil Surgeons so it is not uncommon for them to ask that you do it again even though USCIS does not require two physicals. It is costing us another $300.00 and two days of tests and shots.

The one from the website says that form expires in 05/31/2004

There is one from the state.gov website that is the current version, but it does not have the Ciudad Juarez seal. It does expire in 09/30/2010

Let me know

I am not sure we were going to fill that out tonight. I will have to look into it.

Ok well as some of you know we made it to Juarez. It was a very special moment when we were able to see each other again. We spent some time with each other and then went to dinner and to the mall...which I'll have to post a pic of later because quite frankly is hilarious!

So this morning we woke up really early and were like what the heck lets go see if the medical office is open (today is a holiday here) and guess what it was...and he is there right now. one day early! I think this will be good. Anyways I waited until he entered the building and then took a courageous voyage across the street to a Starbucks and came back to the hotel.

Fingers crossed and lots of prayers please

Sandi

Yeah Sandi! I am so glad you guys are ahead of schedule. Roberto made it through POE Houston this morning. He said he'll give me the details later but it was no problem.

I am just wondering how much cash I should be bringing with me. I know the banks will be closed on Monday and I am not sure if I can use my debit/credit card there. Does anyone know?

Phew...one more wake up and I will be on my way.........

We will get married in the courthouse later this week and we are having a ceremony with my family in Florida on the 24th of Dec. I am hoping he breezes through the POE.

Chinman,
As you know Roberto waited from getting his visa approved on Friday until yesterday afternoon before DHL received his visa. DHL told him it was the consulate. Roberto called non-stop and actually physically went to DHL every day (except Sunday). They did update the website tracking right away when it was ready for pick up. He had already called them a moment before they updated the website and was on route when I got the message from DHL on my blackberry.

I hope you do get out of there soon! Hang tough, maybe it will be just one more day.

2400 pesos for Medical
1900 pesos at Banamex for the visa
and Im not sure how much for DHL because he did that inside the consulate. Ill ask him when I call him at 6:00.

If he gets it before it closes tonight then he can leave tomorrow morning. That will be 6 nights and 7 days in Juarez, which is longer than we plan to spend on our honeymoon. But the good news is we get to have one, right?

Everyone, (receptionists, cab drivers, random people in the lobby and even the Immigration officer that gave the interview) keeps insisting to Roberto that he needs to go to the bridge once he gets his visa from DHL. I just want to confirm one more time that he doesn't go to the bridge because he is flying back to Merida and his POE will be Atlanta in a few weeks. Is that correct and is there somewhere on the juarez website or other USCIS website where I can find it to put Roberto at ease?
Genny

Hi Genni,

He doesn't need to go to any bridge, at DHL he needs to check his passport and visa information are correct ... passport number match with one is on visa, lastnames ... everything.
Haven't heard any recently changes on K-1 visas like going to the bridge or something, I asked the Consul at the end of my interview and he told me that JUST if I was ready to travel from Juarez "walking" through the bridge must have for the bridge my DO NOT OPEN YELLOW ENVELOPE has (comes with your visa and passport)

Once I had my visa traveled back to DF and after 2 months came to US ... my POE was Dallas and everything was fine, they didn't asked me for a sign or something like that ... just my yellow envelope, my passport with K-1 visa, few questions about my bf, myself ... That's all.

OMG so sorry Isi, I didn't see that you had responded. What you said is what i thought I just wanted to double check because all day everyone keeps telling him he must go to the bridge. I don't think anyone else he has met has a K1.

See that is what I was confused about. I kept reading about people needing to do that.

The visa is not here yet. He was approved on Friday but it hasn't arrived to DHL yet. But I don't think it is normal for it to take so long. They told him on Friday that they were behind. I had always heard that the bridge is not for K1 people that are leaving on a plane but I do wish I saw it written somewhere on a USCIS page. I still can't find it. I guess I can call the consulate.

Thanks he has a ton of questions and feels more comfortable to ask him in Spanish.

Do you know how Victor's service works? If I call and book with him how would I pay for the service or does he just make the reservation?

Andrea

You pay him for his taxi services and he makes the reservation for you at the Holiday Inn. When you call him he will ask if you have a reservation. I didn't do it that way but I wish I had either paid online at one of the places on Booking buddy or through Victor. But Roberto had already paid ahead of time.

For medical I waited in the room and he was out in 2 hours. It doesn't seem dangerous to walk back and forth. For the interview I also waited in the room and went to the mall across the street. The Holiday Inn is so close. I did walk down with Roberto and stand in line with him both for medical and for the interview but they didn't let me in either time. Chinman good luck. I think maybe if you guys get to medical by 6 (it opens at 6:30) then that is plenty of time. Roberto is next door at the Microhotel because he got a better rate there and it is not nearly as nice as the Holiday Inn but he isn't as picky as me.

Genny, how can we get the 60 dollar a day rate?

Could you list the documents they actually took from him?

Andrea

Andrea,
I have seen the $60 rate on Expedia. But the shuttle driver Victor said that he could have gotten the rate for us. His number is (915) 526-9772.
In Roberto's interview they asked for each of the papers from the consulate website and the only one they wanted two copies of was the DS 156 (they asked for that outside before he even went in). They asked for his original birth certificate but not the police records. They also asked for the I-134, Affidavit of Support and supporting documents for that. They didn't ask for our proof of relationship packet that I made with photos and emails and chat records. They did look at the pictures that I sent in to Vermont for proof. They asked him for details about people in the pictures.
Let me know if you need something else,
Genny

Ok I promise not to keep triple posting, but for those of you that are getting ready to go to Juarez make sure you get a $60 a day rate at the Holiday Inn. If you didn't already get a good rate on the
internet then you need to talk to someone and get that rate. Don't pay too much!

Roberto is still in Juarez until he gets the package at DHL. So you might see him Chinman. He went to the Archeological ruins "Casas Grandes" today for a visit but he will be back tonight.

FWIW, the child doesn't prove anything about your relationship beyond the fact that you had sex at least once. Doesn't hurt to provide documents of the child's existence but you've already had to prove the parental relationship for the baby's CRBA & US Passport, right?

I saw many young children but no babies. As I have been told, Normally they do not permit anyone but the applicant to go to the interview. However because my children are minors as yours are they permitted me to go. My daughters are my step daughters and because I was the US Citizen pettioning for them I was permitted to accompany them. So I think in your case you could accompany your baby. I would assume that there would be two separate interviews. One for your Husband and one for your baby. I have not done my wife yet so I cannot offer any advice yet on that. I would think that you could do the interview for your baby yourself. Hope this information helps.
