I have heard some people are allowed to go in with their SO to the consulate. I am going to wait in line and ask if I can go. When we arrive I assume I can't have a cell phone or any other electronic device with me. I wasn't even going to take a purse. Are there things they won't let me take in that I might not have considered? Right now that "page is not available" on the CDJ website: http://ciudadjuarez....endations2.html

If they say I can't go in I'll just go back to the Holiday Inn and wait.

Ah but it is available in Spanish:

After receiving the visa and going to the bridge, do they have to cross over? Or do they just get the stamp and can go back to their house for their things and cross say in Laredo?

My understanding is that you don't need to stamp anything right after you get your K-1 visa, once you get it you have 6 months to cross at any POE you want and only then your visa and the DO NOT OPEN yellow envelope (that came with your visa) will be stamped.

star_smile.gif

That is my understanding too. We hope that Roberto gets the visa by the end of this week but he will not come to the US for several more weeks. So he is not going to the bridge.

i've been rechecking my documents daily, it's driving me nuts!!!! We're going to practice asking her to hand me documents from a folder with dividers so she can easily find what she's looking for....

i was thinking the copy of the letter i got didn't have a signature on it, but neither would one that is printed, so we should be able to use the one they sent me. If not, can you get one printed AND do the medical in the same day?

Yes you can. There are several people in this forum that have done just that including Margaret (delci06). She got the letter early in the morn and then her SO was in medical by 8:30 am. I am sure the letter they sent to you (and the one they sent to me) will work just fine. When I called Juarez I asked them what would happen if the letter never arrives at Roberto's house and she said "that is why we send it to you too."

Juarez finished processing ours after one month and a day. I got the letter here in the US two weeks later. Roberto still didn't get the letter. We are going to Juarez on Wednesday. I'll make sure to keep everyone posted on how things go.

I really need some encouragement. We were originally thinking Roberto was going to come get me in El Paso but now we are too nervous for him to cross the border the day before his interview. If he is not coming to get me that means I will be arriving at night alone from El Paso and going to the Holiday Inn. Im so nervous. I am not sure it is safe. If there is anyone who has done this let me know how it went, please.

Congrats epifreak!!!!

After all that stress before and during the interview and finally being approved I got back to the hotel to take a nap. When I woke up it was around 2 and I checked the DHL website and to my surprise the VISA was ready and waiting for me. I just got back from going and picking it up. I'm just so surprised about how lightning fast the interview and getting the visa was. The medical was another story but whatever it's done.

To answer some of the recent questions.
They are still not using the DS-160.
They did ask me for the DS-157.
At the clinic you can pay with pesos or dollars for the medical exam.
For the visa fee at the bank you have to use pesos.

Regarding the questions about the interview. It's pretty much what everyone have posted. In my case it was very fast. I think it was that fast because we sent a huge I-129F that the interviewer was reviewing. The only thing extra he asked were pictures. That was my case, either way come prepared with lots of things.

Cheers everyone and good luck!

Here someone who went in May was asked for the DS-157.

Whew, thanks Andrea,
Roberto and I just filled it out over Skype. Recently all of our dates are over immigration forms. How romantic smile.gif

When I got home tonight there was a message on my machine from my congresswoman (she left the message this morning) saying that she heard back from Juarez that the package was sent and that she will be sending me a letter. Not sure what that will be about, but I'm sure it's the email or something! HOORAY I am very excited! Finally some good news. I thought I was going to be waiting forever...it was in Juarez for 5 weeks before they sent something. So all in all not too shabby I guess. Now the planning on when I will be in Juarez.

I feel a lot better about that. The only little problem we can foresee is if they give him trouble about crossing. He has a B1/B2 visa so it shouldn't be a problem. But who knows?

The letter doesn't even mention the documents at all. It just says to go to the website and follow the directions there. But I like most other people am taking an I-134 that I filled out in August. I have the letter from my bank, my dean (boss), my pay stubs and income taxes as supporting evidence. I have had all of that ready for several months so I hope it is not too outdated. The letter doesn't mention that the consulate is closed on the second Wed of each month (which is the day we arrive). But the letter does say that the consulate is closed the last Friday of each month. It says that the open appointment is from 8:00-10:00 any working day.
It is nice to have the letter in hand because I wasn't sure we'd get it before we leave. I still didn't buy plane tickets yet. I'm hoping they go down tomorrow.

Isi,

We went ahead and made plans before we got the letter. We know that they mailed the letter and packet 3 to us from Juarez on Sept 18th. We are going to arrive in Juarez on the 14th of October. The Consulate will be closed that day but Roberto hopes to get the medical done on that day. I would like some more help if you or anyone else can offer it on taxis from El Paso to the Holiday Inn Las Misiones. I know you said that there might be some taxis that will take you to the embassy for free of you have an appointment. I am looking for all taxi options to and from the airport in El Paso. I loved the pics you took from your Holiday Inn window (that sold us, Roberto made the reservation right after that). Roberto flies to Juarez but I fly to El Paso by myself and get there at night so I want a safe but affordable option and I want to be able to plan ahead. If you or anyone else that has been can offer some help then I'd really appreciate it.

Let me know.

Hi there,
Glad the pics helped you ... good.gif
Well ... taking about the taxis what I heard over there is that from and to El paso is 80 usd each and free ones are if you arrive to Juarez airport so your bf might save some there.
Did you check prices for you flying straight to Juarez?
I saw some cheap taxis also but ... I don't know call me crazy but did not trust them at all maybe because I'm from "the jungle" (Mexico City) and being there alone you must be careful.
In the hotel get some taxis for you but not less than 60 usd ... unfortunately that is a very good business there and they take advantage.
Let me check other web sites and let you know
star_smile.gif

I know, going there alone has me a bit worried, especially since I'm arriving at night. The difference in price is tremendous though. To fly to El Paso will cost about $400.00 and to fly to Juarez the lowest price I have found is $854.00. I would much rather fly to Juarez but the price difference is too much. So I have to find the best price possible and the safest taxis. I am only going to be in Juarez for three days. I have to go back to work but Roberto will stay until everything is done. Thanks for helping.

Just remember you have to wait in Juarez for DHL to deliver the visa, so I might not book a return flight yet. I think the border crossing is like $60. My company hires a service to do that for our employees, I'll post the contact info on here when I get it.

Roberto is not coming to the US right away and so we are returning separately, which means his flight could be changed if he needs to wait for his visa to arrive at DHL (if it is approved). Does the border crossing taxi you are using charge $60 one-way or round-trip?

I am having a lot of trouble finding a reasonable flight to Juarez. I used booking buddy. I have priced flights to El Paso too. The El Paso option means getting a taxi there and back from the Holiday Inn ( I guess from what I read that is $80 each way) I used bookingbuddy and looked into the taxi options that Isi recommended but WOW it is still going to be really expensive to go to Juarez. Can anyone think of any other ways to save money? Roberto already has the hotel (Holiday Inn). Maybe I can fly using Southwest to a closer airport and then go to Juarez from there.
I am trying to do the 2.5 days in under $600.00.

Okay so first off I just need to vent because I am nearly in tears today. about ready to break down. I am just sick of calling and getting different answers all of the time. I called Juarez earlier in the week and they told me that they received all of the paperwork and to call first part of October. When I called the NVC today they told me that Juarez hasn't received anything. STOP SCREWING WITH ME!!!!! That's how I feel right now and I appologize for releasing here, but I know that you all understand. URRGGG this is going to be a long and depressing weekend.

Guerita! No, Your stuff is there, if Juarez says they have it they do! NVC told me the exact same thing on last week. I knew that my stufff was at Juarez because I had tracked the package and saw it arrive on the 20th of Aug. For weeks NVC told me it had arrived at Juarez then last week a very very grumpy woman yelled at me even though I was using my really nice slow calm voice. She said that Juarez doesn't have your application. I begged to differ. She said to take it up with my senator (because she could see in the system that I had requested that my senator look into notifying me when the 129f was processed). So that day I called Juarez for the first time. They said that they had had it since Aug 17th. (remember they said it would be 2 months?) Then the next day after I called...they processed it and sent out the letter. So NVC people get different info depending on what the screen in front of them says. You know they have it in Juarez because the embassy told you it was there nearly a month ago.
Hang in there.

I don't think you need immunization records for a Fiance visa

That is true he doesn't need it for K-1 but he might get the shots in Mexico because he has insurance there.

I called Juarez and the NVC each once a week. This week they both told me that the letter has been sent out and we are free to travel to Juarez to an open interview. So we are trying to go in the next few weeks (October 15-16). I have a few questions that perhaps someone can help with. I (the USC) plan to get to Juarez on a Wednesday night and Roberto will too. Do you think that gives us enough time to do both medical and the interview before we run out of weekdays? Or should he plan to do medical on a Wednesday? If we are approved then is the DHL office open on Saturday or Sunday or might he have to wait until Monday to pick up his visa if he interviews on Friday? Also, does anyone have a checklist of things to do and documents to have for Juarez. I want to make sure we aren't forgetting things. I have seen checklists for lots of other processes but not for the Juarez embassy interview and medical.
Thanks so much for everyone's help.

Hi Gerry,
Congradulations!
My fiancee..now wife... and I... Just got back from Juearez. Unless things have changed you must have the letter in hand to present to the Medical Building and the Embassy. That is the FIRST thing they ask for! I think they allow you to print it at from the web sight if you dont have it... forgive me but I am not sure what site you may print it from. But dont take my word on this. Look on the forumn and someone has posted where it can be printed from.

As far as the medical goes... if there will be children going through the medical then you are going at the right time (middle of the week) because the TB test takes several days to "react". We stayed in Juarez for 12 days because of the TB test and our wonderful USA Washington DC computers were down. If your have children that are going through the medical be prepaird for several days. If memory serves me correctly the TB test takes 3 days for the "reaction". If it is possitive then that is another trip back to the medical for xrays, if not then you may get the results that same day. If it is just yout fiancee then he may get his results the same day. My wife got hers the same day but not Michelle.

Go to the guide here on Visa Journey and review the list of things you need. One thing you need to do is bring extra money. We had to pay somewhere around $300.00 for another fee we were not expecting. I have forgotten what it was for. I am in my office and I dont have my paperwork with me to tell you exacly what it was. We had to pay $300. because of two fees. One for my wife one for Michelle.

I learned this about the process in Juarez...... be prepaied to wait! Then again some people are in and out in a flash. I knew of people who were there over 14 days and I knew people who were there for 2 days. It just depends on your situation.

I am not possitive about DHL being open on Sat and Sun. I think it is open on Sat but dont take my word for it.

If you are taking your car and driving in Mexico GET THE MEXICAN INSURANCE! THIS IS A MUST! If you are flying in and taking a cab then no worries. We stayed at the LaQuinta which is VERY nice and VERY HELPFUL and it's in walking distance for everything you need. PLUS much cheaper than H. INN. If you stay at LaQuinta be SURE SURE you book the one located at the NEW EMBASSY. I stress this because there is one located at the old embassy also. The have a shuttle bus that will take you to the medical building and the embassy almost any time you want. They will take you almost anywhere within reason even to the airport and shopping. They will NOT pick you up at the airport when you arrive.. it takes business away from the Taxi services but they will take you there for your departure flight.

Forgive me for not remembering everything. I am NOT the brains of the family! LOL My wife is!

On the things I said "dont take my word for it" be sure to verify these things. I would hate to missinform you and cause a hardship.

Hope this helps
I Am Mello

Thank you Mello, very much! We are not taking children. I am flying into El Paso and getting from there to Juarez (somehow). We are staying at the Holiday Inn. We do not have the letter yet but it was mailed on the 18th so hopefully we will get it before we leave for Juarez. If not then he will go to the information counter and get it printed out. Roberto is flying into Juarez. I will meet him there. I am trying to calculate
the days he will need to be in Juarez because I would like to be with him on his interview day even if I have to wait in the hotel. Since we are not taking children to the interview I think he can arrive in Juarez, go to the embassy and pick up the letter, go make payments in Banamex, and go to the medical clinic all in one day. Then the following day he can go to the interview. The day or so after that we will go to DHL to (hopefully) pick up the visa. So that means it would be possible to go to medical on Thursday and the interview on Friday. It may or may not work out that way but that is what we are going to try. This whole process has taught me to be patient and not trust that anything will happen when you believe it might.
So, taking what Mello says and the other things I have read then if I make a checklist for Roberto it will look like this...
Plane reservations to Juarez________
Hotel Reservations in Juarez________
Money for taxi/shuttles ____________
Money for visa, medical and DHL fees (4500 pesos)__________
Letter for open appointment__________
Copy of all supporting documents for 129f__________
Copy of vaccine record___________
K Visa/Fiance(e) Packet, CDJ 446.__________
Application Form, DS-156__________
K Visa Supplemental Application Form (K-1 only), DS-156K__________
Statement of Intent to Marry (K-1 only), __________
Proof of Relationship Form, CDJ 430 __________
Public Charge Information, form OF-167 __________

Does that look about right?

You are right Chinman. I tracked the DHL package and it arrived on the 20th. Juarez told me they received it from NVC on the 17th. And NVC told me it left on the 17th. I think those three days are the difference in my case between electronic and actual files being sent. One way or another it only took about a month and I am so thrilled. Everything else took a bit longer than expected but this step went faster.

Oh Genny...CONGRATS! Fingers crossed for you!!!

I called Juarez earlier and they told me that it is going to take up to two months.... she did tell me to call back the first part of October to see how things were going...hopefully soon for us too.

Who did you call this time to get this info?

Sandi

Sandi,
YEAH! I know we are so excited! At first I called NVC and they said that packet 3 has been sent out. I called Juarez to confirm and they said yes it has been sent out. We are so so happy.
Genny

They did confirm that they sent the letter to his address as well as to mine on September 18th only one month and a day after it arrived in Juarez.

Did you ask them if they sent the paperwork to both of you? I am really curious about that. The 202 number for NVC? And they actually helped...wow.

I am so happy for you guys!!! Gosh...keep us updated! You'll be through it all before us now!
