Thank you cici that was really helpful! We're planning on going to the SSP in Merida and Cancun to get the letters, along with a letter from Marcos' tiny little pueblo where he lived for most of his life. I've been living with him in Mexico (save for a few short trips to the U.S.) since 2007 and we have a baby together who was born here (and he does have his consular report of birth abroad certificate, along with american AND mexican passports). We've got a TON of photos of us together (and with our son), I have one boarding pass (I never thought to save my other ones. dangit!), and itinerary from a trip we took to the riviera maya with my mom, and a few other things. I'm not TOO concerned about evidence, but I am more concerned about the affidavit of support.

For the last year I only worked a couple of months and I really haven't made any money since moving to Mexico. I've been mainly supported by some very generous aunts and uncles back in the US and, of course, my mom and my fiancee. So since I'm his fiancee, I know I'm going to have to do an affidavit of support, and my mom is going to do one as well. The only problem is, my mom didn't make very much money until the middle of last year, so her income on her tax returns for last year and this year are going to be low, but squeaking by over the poverty line (plus assets of a home). I know that on the I-134 it asks for a bank letter, job letter, and tax returns. She got a fairly large settlement last year (but used a lot of it for bills and to fix the house) so that'll make the bank letter ok, and since her current income is higher than last year, that'll be ok, too, but the tax returns are what's bothering me. I'm just hoping that they take more into consideration the bank and job letters than the tax returns.

I'm also wondering if it would be worth our while to get bloodwork done here in Merida to make sure that my fiancee doesn't have any issues before we make the trip to juarez. When he was in the prepa he came down hepatitis A, which I've read is quite common, even in the U.S. Better safe than sorry, and if it's something that *might* effect a medical exam, it would be better to have a letter from a doc here saying that it's under control. Ugh, maybe I'm thinking/worrying too much.

What I have heard from alot of other ppl who post here that the income is a big deal in juarez... Is it possible for you to get another family member to co sponser you? You can have more then one sponser.... that's an Idea.... Just to be on the safe side of things....and usally bank statments and things like that are good are good and they will most like look at your current finacal situation then older stuff.

lol... I thought the same thing last week and so we got x-rays done lol.... I have been reading if you had something of a health problem that you have to show it is taken care of before you go to juarez..... so it best to know before hand of any medical conditions.... remember to take letters from doctors stating he's better.... ( remember this is all need to knowso if they don't ask why tell them he was sick)

My mom is coming down and we are driving from Merida to Ciudad Juarez sometime in mid-April (4-day drive)! I am a little worried about the crime and everything, but my fiancee and his friend are going to be with us.

Because it's going to take so long to get there I want to make sure we have EVERYTHING in order before we go. I'd rather have too many papers than not enough, and I think it would be horrible to go all the way there only to discover that you've left something out. We never did receive the NOA1 here in Merida, and I only knew about the NOA2 because of an email update I received. I'm thinking about changing my address with the NVC to my mom's address so that any correspondence will actually be received. Opinions?

sounds like you have a good traveling group... luck!

Hello All....this is my first post after reading for a few weeks, so go easy on me if this question sounds absurd. I just called the 800 number to ask a few questions about our case. I was told our packet 3 was mailed on 2/19 and that it will arrive in 4 weeks. I know I sound impatient here, but why so long? If the packet has been placed in the mail I wouldn't think it would move that slow.

You can go to juarez any time now.... you really don't have to wait for it.....go to juarez take your NVC letter tell them that they have alreay mail you packet 3... they will print out the letter for you... look a few pages back on this forum for more information...

Print all the forms on the juarez web site!

As long as your case is still active, which it is, don't worry about the expiration date. They will extend it for you. I called the embassy two weeks ago and they told me the letter would be sent within 4-8 weeks. February 23 will be 8 weeks for us and we haven't received anything yet. I hope the person you talked to was exaggerating! We set our wedding date as April 18, thinking that would give us ample time to receive the invitation letter. I hope we aren't wrong about that... unsure.gif

I really hope you are right! I was hoping for our wedding to be under a cerryblossem tree in DC and they only blossem about the last week of march and the frist week of april...... I am kind of a freak when it comes to wanting to know about dates and I have read most of the time lines from people that have recieve there NOA2 after July and the Aropx date is about 8 to 10 week for package to be sent ..... which is not a good thing...... and this guy made it sound it i was going to be waiting another 6 months!!!!!!!

Good luck to both of you. You never know what to expect from the Juarez consulate....

Pita and I arrived in from Guanajuato to Juarez Sunday afternoon 8th of Feb at
the Holiday Inn express. That afternoon we located the bank, the medical office,
got some food and prepared for the morning visit to the clinic. The next day we
arrived at 8am and to a line of hundreds of people and found out that the clinic
opens at 6am! Pita went in and was taken by bus to the old clinic downtown. We
are assuming because the new clinic just cannot handle the heavy traffic of the
3000 plus who come every day. (I asked an officer at the embassy and he said
that they average 3000 people a day?) She got back around 1pm. The next
morning we went to a trailer next to the new medical clinic at 6 AM to collect her
results. There is new construction next to this trailer so I am assuming that soon
everything will happen right there.
The scheduled appointments start at 6 am at the new embassy. We arrived at
7:30 thinking we would go to the beginning of the line with our “open”
appointment. Pita was put in line with the 8 AM appointments and waited her
turn. She came out around 2:30 – her interview went fine! They said that her visa
would be waiting at the DHL office in two hours. The DHL office is about a 15 min
drive from the Holiday Inn and the shuttle driver took us there at 4:30 but it wasn’t
there. We went back at 6pm and it was there!
The next morning we took the bus back to Guanajuato and will be leaving in a
week for San Francisco through Houston. Whew! Next marriage and then we will
start the AOS process. If you don’t have a car staying at the Holiday in isn’t a bad
deal. It is pricey if you’re on a budget, ($85 a night) but you get an all you can eat
breakfast and being to walk everywhere is a big plus. They also have internet
and a printer.
Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and information on this web
page. The embassy seems a tad behind on all the information needed.
Mark and Pita

Congrads!!!

Yes there are many, here is one that if you book ahead you can maybe get a ticket only paying for a the IVA(taxes) that are in the range of like 200 to 500 peso but most time you have to pay like 1300 to 1500 which in US $ is like $100 (in this economy

Do I have to go to the NEW US Embassy or the OLD one?

If it's thew new one, then how far is it from the old one?

Could I stay at a hotel close to the old one and be able to walk to the new one? I was thinking about staying at Los Cedros hotel that is recommended here in the site.

Thanks

From what I understand, the old consulate is all the way across town from the new one. The old one is completely closed, so you can't go to that one, and the old one is in a very bad part of town so I don't think I would recommend staying near the old consulate. My fiance is staying at the Holiday Inn Express--it is right next to the new consulate. You might want to check into that. Good luck! wink.gif

Any idea on how much the night runs there? My price range is 50 bucks a night. Or does anyone have any other suggestion?

Arianna, good to see things have progressed well for you. Don't panic the finish line is in sight. star_smile.gif

The new embassy is not very close to the old one at all. I personally did not find the area around the old one very dangerous, but the new one is in area of town which is very modern/new and has better accomodations.

But I would skip the Los Cedros, because it is about twenty minutes away. And there should be hotels within walking distance of the new building.

Brian

Thanks, I am trying to figure this out in time to make it in the next 3 weeks and save as much money as possible.

Also, I am right now in Las Vegas and will be flying to El Paso to cross over to CDJ. What is the easyest and cheapest way to get across? Someone had recommended a Taxi driver but I lost that information.
Anyone have any other suggestions?

I'm in the US with a tourist visa and my mom is waiting for my invitation letter back in Mexico. The Consulate recieved my petition from the NVC beginig Oct and my mom says it hasn't gotten there yet. We called and they said they were sending them out 2 months after they were receiving them.

Today we recieved the letter that is sent to the US Citizen, I have it in my hands. Is it the same one?

Can I go with this one or does it have to be the one sent to Mexico?

Because this one has a letter in the front saying I have an open appointment to the interview and all the intructions with it.

Also the NOA2 said I had to Jan 8 to go to my interview but this letter has no deadline. Can I go after Jan 8 or no?

I was wondering if anyone knows if I can bring my 2 and a half year old daughter to the interview. She already has her US Citizenship so she's not filing for anything there. But she stayed behind with me.

The thing is that I don't want to have her waiting under the sun and being uncomfortable. Or would they give me any priority on her behalf to keep her out of the sun?

If not I will have to fly up to leave her with her Dad in the States and then fly back down for the interview alone.

If your daughter has her US Passport, I would recommend not bringing her to the interview. I really don't know if she'll be able to come into the consulate because the only times I hear of children going inside is if they're Mexican citizens waiting for visas. You could call the consulate directly to ask them, but sometimes they don't give straight up answers, and even have given wrong answers. It might be easier to have your fiance fly to El Paso, have him hold onto her while you have your interview, and hopefully fly out of El Paso together home to where he lives. The interview might take 4-7 hrs and it would be uncomfortable for your daughter.

Thank you SOOOOOOO much for your answer!!! good.gif

Day 23 of June \. We planned to have our appointment so we make sure we have everything set it up one nigth before and make sure I have the medical exams, than we got there again at 8 am, they pass me pretty fast because I went streigth to the police officer and they sent me to a line that was about to get inside, in that point you need to show them your Passaport, your letter form the consulate, and also your DS- 156 form, they let you get in and you get trhu a checking point where you have to take out your shoes and purse like a airporort cehck point, they give you a number ( witch you have to be checking every moment to see if they show on the tv screan ) because on the screen they show your number and the window you have to go with the CO, so you better pay atention. afther been waiting for a while I saw my number on the screan, by this point I was exausted at looking! I didnt have my glasses with me. I went to my window was a pretty nice CO who ask me for a package ( I was confuse of what he was asking) so I ask him what suppose to have the "package" than he tell me birth certificate ( original and copy),passaport, recipit of visa pay, Forms DS-156( two ), DS-156k(two), Financial stuff from my fiance I give him all including the affordavit of support, And I think thats it. He ask me to sing the forms witch he underline where I have to do it. I suggest to have everything on a folder so you are not looking tru your papers on that point ( because I kind of saw he was kind of mad, afther that ) even though I have everything organize and with tags so I knew exaclty where I had everything. I think that problem can be solve if they tell us what we have to give on advice on the first window, than second and what you gonna be using on thirth, than he sent me to get my finger prints and he said a number of the window I have to go.
I went there the lady pretty nice ( kind of asian so she talked kind of funny english adn spanish), than afther that you have to wait again for your name to get call or your number show on tv screen, in my case was the name ather a time of waiting. They call me by name, was the time of my intreview, I was calm I got there and the CO ask me to swear ( prometer con mi mano derecha que todo lo que estaba diciendo era verdad) that everything that I will say is true. than He ask me how we met? what I was doing? if is kids involve? if he has been married? If I was married before? he show me a picture Jakub sent and ask me were we where at? he ask me where does he work? how long we have been together? and thats it. Afther that he say your visa has been aproved you have to go to DHL to pay your fee for send the visa ( witch is inside of the consulate also) again you go in the line and pay for that 110 pesos ( afortunadamente traia exacto el dinero no tuvimos la precausion de checar si iva a necesitar dinero y con toda la adrenalina en afuera se me olvido pedirle a jakub mi dinero jaja pero me lleve pokito pensando si me daba hambre, pues sabia que adentro tienen tiendita). the people from DHL tell me to check afther an hour if they got my package, they also tell me that can take to 1 day to 3 days for them to get them. unsure.gif We were kind of stress out because Jakub was going to leave wendsday morning adn by that point we didnt have it so he left and I keep calling to the DHL office every 2 hrs until afther 1pm Wendsday we got it!! We where happy because We had just hotel pay until Thursday and I was having my fly thursday also. It takes one day and half for them to have the package. And the consulate process was about another 4 hrs inside from 8 am to 12 pm. good.gif If yiou have any questions just let me know

Ok here it goes our experience on Ciudad Juarez we been there since the 21 of June to the 24. We stayed at Holiday Inn express "las misiones" good hotel, no complains about it, pretty close to the Consulate like two blocks walking. First day Monday 22 we got the the clinic and do the medical, ( the clinic is also pretty close like a streat walking from the hotel that we stay at, we got there at 8 am I didnt even stay on line I went straigth to the police people and I show my pasaport and my letter than they let me get in rigth away, One suggestion here dont forget the money (140 dlls)!!! than you stared to get on a line until they call your name you pass and they put you a brazalete with your pasaport number, than they give you instructions to go to the area where you gonna be passing with a doctor, next is you sit and wait inline to get in to where they take the blood, normally is a big line because is a lot more people than just fiances visas. than afther they take you blood, you go to a eye check out where they divide woman and man on different areas, they make an simple eye exam, afhter that they send you to the other line that acually everything is on the same room, so you sit an wait (by this points are just woman on your lines than they pass 4 by 4 so the line moves fast), on that part you get to an area they have different rooms where the doctor ask you to get naked put your little cover thing (bata de hospital echa de papel) and tell you to wait there until she came in to your room to check you out. so when she get there she take your pressure, your heart beating than she ask you to take out your cover, you better help out and dont feel shy she is a female doctor in a case of a woman, she ask you couple questions and inspect you stand up, she ask you to get on the scale and massure you, than she ask you some questions like if you have done drugs, if you had problems with the police, when was your last period ( in this case I was not complitly 100%, but i give her a time, so they make me have a pregnency test before I get in to my X rays) she even do kind of a quick ginecological inspection ( she didnt touch anything ), than afther I have that she tell me to get half dress ( just the bottom) because was the time of X rays, they have a little room where you can finish to dress up, afther your X rays. I have to wait outside for my pregnet results I knew where negative but they ask me to wait. As you dont need shots with this kind of visa you just go straigh to the line of pay. than there you just give your number and a peper they give you and they tell you how much is it. Than I was out at 12 pm so arround 4 hours later. They ask me to return about 2 pm to get my results so we went there at 2 and was a huge line so we had to wait until they pass the people who were waiting also for results, they let you waitn and sit again it didnt take too long I was out probably about 45 min of waiting my name to get call. kicking.gif

We went to DHL today to see if Roberto's visa had been sent. The attendant told him to come back on Monday after 12:00 because things are running slow right now. Since I am leaving today and we were paying 1300 a night at the Holiday Inn Roberto moved over to the Microtel. We are there right now waiting for the taxi (Victor) to get me to take me back to El Paso. Roberto has a flight home for Tuesday. Total he will have to be in Juarez for 7 days sad.gif But still once he has the visa in hand we are buying his ticket to come to the US.

Here is what Roberto writes about his interview day:

He got it! More later. Poor thing is so starving. We need to go take him to eat. The person who interviewed him was rude but WHO CARES he got it!! His interviewer took his B1-B2 and said oh you have a visa.... I mean you had one because now you dont and stamped canceled on it and laughed. She also said Oh, your girlfriend is a doctor (Im not Im a PhD) and you? What are you? When he said licenciado she said can you live with that ? That she is a doctor and you are not? He said yes. He said she asked tons of questions. Where I live and work. The full names of my parents. Where we met and how. She didn't ask anything he didn't know. We are so happy. It is a huge relief.

Isi,
I am not sure how much the shots cost in the US but I am sure Roberto is going to have to get some there. He is missing only about 3. Here in Juarez the shots he would have needed cost between 30 and 50 dollars each. They didn't even give him the option of shots because he was in a K1 line. They put K1 no vaccines on his letter from the very beginning in the morning. So when we get to KY he will get the shots there as soon as possible.

Margaret,
I am so happy we are at this hotel. It is so convenient and has free internet. We have gone back and forth between here and the clinic, the consulate and the mall for the past few days. I was so happy we stayed in a hotel this close when we forgot the copies of the DS 156.

Roberto has been in there for two and a half hours, which was just enough time to fill out most of the AOS forms smile.gif

Genny

I know, right. It was very convenient.
I'm glad things are going well for you guys. I'll say a little prayer smile.gif

Still waiting, 6 hours later and there really aren't that many people here si I guess I thought that would make things go faster. I just found out the hard way that you arent allowed to take pictures of the consulate. sad.gif I took a few pictures of everything else but they aren't really different from Isi's. I would like to have a picture of all of the armed military people but after I was stopped by the consulate guards (over the megaphone) I don't think it would be a good idea.

Happy Birthday Isi! So glad it was a good one.

Roberto is in the consulate. They didn't let me in. We went right at 8:00. Last night when we were going through all of the papers we took out the second copy of the DS 156. The first thing they asked us for even before he went into the building were the two copies of the DS 156. So we came back to the hotel and got the other copies. When we got back to the consulate there was a new person at the gate and they didn't let me go in. I'm going to wait here at the hotel and thing very happy thoughts. Perhaps I'll even start the AOS paperwork. Isi did you start AOS yet? Did you get the shots here or there?

Genny,
Glad to hear you experience is going good so far. Keep us posted and best of luck.

Oh yeah quick question is there any other hotels next to the Holiday Inn that look decent. I jut want to see what my options are.

From what I am told the interview can be done in Spanish.

Andrea

Hi Andrea, how are you doing?
There are 2 on the same street, Microtel next to Holiday Inn and Quality Inn that is on the other side of the Consulate.
If you look at the pics I posted you can see both ... Quality Inn is all the way back.

Andrea,

Microtel looks fine, it is right next door. Roberto paid 1900 pesos at Banamex.

Isi thanks so much for the encouragement.

We went to a movie tonight.

Thanks so much. We are a little nervous but we feel like we are half way there. We got the results for medical. It only took five min to pick up. Isi was right Roberto just went around back of the clinic and picked it up. Then we went across the street to pay at the Banamex (ouch). We will go tomorrow at 8:00 to the line in front of the counsel. Isi do you think we should go before 8:00? The paper says between 8-10.
Thanks so so so much for everyone's messages of encouragement.

Roberto just got out of medical it only took 1.5 hours. They do it all in Spanish, they take blood, It cost $181 dollars or $2400 pesos. At the entrance it tells how much each vaccine costs they were all over 300 pesos. You don't need them for K1 (of course) but we had considered getting them here. And he had a female doctor. They asked him CONSTANTLY if he used drugs. And he has NEVER used drugs but they kept asking in different ways.

It was so fast! He gets his results at 2:00.

This morning we went to Examenes Medicos Consulares. We got there at 5:00 and there was already a big line. While we were waiting representatives of the Clinic came through the line and looked at the papers and assigned Roberto a number (he was 37th because most people in line were there with their families). I couldn't go in with him to medical so when he got up to the door at about 6:15 I came back to the hotel. We heard they don't give the results until this afternoon. I'll keep you posted. We have been walking back and forth between the Holiday Inn and the other places close by. It is very close and convenient to stay here.

We are here. Victor the taxi driver that Sandi suggested picked me up at the airport (it went smoothly and he only charges $45). We are at the Holiday Inn. Roberto wanted to go to the clinic today but he got here at noon. You can only go to the clinic between 6-11. We just ate next door at Barrigas, that food isn't bad but it is a little expensive.
There are two clinics. One next to Wendy's and another one. One is called Examenes Medicos Consulares and the other is called CME. Does anyone recommend one over the other?
We are going to go to the clinic tomorrow at 6:00. We have heard lots of people here in the lobby that have been waiting for days for DHL to deliver the visa. I sure hope we don't have to wait too long.

Please let me know if you have an opinion about which clinic to go to.

Alright,

Who is still waiting for Packet 3? or for Ciudad Juarez to finish processing?

We are still waiting for the famous "processing"

Thanks,

Ernesto

I also called NVC and they informed me that Ciudad Juarez has the electronic copy, but have not received the "paper copy"?!!!! wacko.gif

Does anyone know how that works? CJ tells me one thing(that they are processing our case) and NVC tells me the above. Please help....

Thanks,

Ernesto

Ernesto,
NVC told me the same thing two days before we were approved. I guess they don't need the paper copy to be able to complete processing.
Not only that but the day after NVC said they mailed the package I tracked the package from NVC via DHL to CDJ and it weighed several pounds and was received four days after it was sent out from NVC. I don't imagine "electronic files" weight that much. Nonetheless NVC said it was not received even though I saw a signature for it on the DHL website. When I mentioned all of this to the NVC they got pretty grumpy. Turns out it didn't matter and we were approved a few days later.

I have heard some people are allowed to go in with their SO to the consulate. I am going to wait in line and ask if I can go. When we arrive I assume I can't have a cell phone or any other electronic device with me. I wasn't even going to take a purse. Are there things they won't let me take in that I might not have considered? Right now that "page is not available" on the CDJ website: http://ciudadjuarez....endations2.html

If they say I can't go in I'll just go back to the Holiday Inn and wait.

Ah but it is available in Spanish:
