i see alot of people writing the word infopass what is it how do u do it and what do u get out of it?

It's an appointment that you will do in your local USCIS office to check advances in your case. Of if you think that there is some trouble with your application or procesing times yoo can do an infopass appointment to ask them directly what's happening...

US Citizenship General DiscussionQuestion on where to file
I think you can put the address that you want if you are living there. But there will be more things to consider like the address of your official documents because they cannot match with the application I think. Good luck.

US Citizenship General Discussionnow i know how it feels
Hahahaha
When I saw that somebody was annoyed because the person who asks for something "already said" I thought "why is he/she angry?" But also, when I started to answer question it was funny but now I feel like lazy people don't want to read about a concern topic and it's easier ask than do a research and spend a lot of time reading and reading...
There is a thing that maybe we forgot, the questions come from different members and we get angry like if the same member was asking and asking the same again and again...
Anyway "it's better to do stupid questions than being an stupid because you didn't ask"

US Citizenship General DiscussionUS Citizen losing Citizenship...
Hi Karima,
Don't listen to them.

Check out DCF - it is for people who get married when they are residents or have visas in a foreign country and have gotten married.
The K-3 visa/ IR-1/ CR-1 are for people who are already married and most were married overseas. That is a huge part of this site. All those people obviously did not lose their citizenships. As the other posters say, you lose your citizenship when you give it up.

Read this for more info: http://travel.state....enship_778.html

It does say you can lose it by being naturalized into a foreign country. But usually being a Permanent Resident is not the same as citizenship, so I wouldn't worry.

If you are going to live abroad, you can register with the Department of State and then if anything happens in the country where you are staying, they send you emails and stuff and obviously try and help you if anything happens to you.

I've posted bits of info about our experience last week so this post isn't going to be really long. I can't say much more than cici did in her post about the overall time line and procedures at the consulate. My fiance actually printed out her post to study while she was in Juarez. I'll give a little info about the questions that were asked at the interview.

1. Where did we meet.
2. How long have we been dating.
3. What state would she be living in in the USA. She didn't have to give the full address but I've read that they can ask and you should have your fiances memorize it!!!!
4. Questions about our son. Where was he born etc
5. Has she ever been to the USA. Not even illegally?
6. What was she going to do in the USA? She wrote work on the DS-156 and she had an offer of employment letter.

For proof of relationship, they didn't ask to see anything but pictures. That still seems crazy to me given this day and age of digital pictures and powerful computers. It's not that hard to doctor photos. She also looked at our son's birth certificate so maybe that was considered as proof of relationship too.

For those of you who are getting nervous about your upcoming trips, post some specific questions and I'll give you an answer(if I know the answer of course). Be prepared that things are expensive in the hotels and stores/restaurants close to the consulate. There isn't any sort of Wal-Mart close either. If you have extra room in your bags, pack some snacks and water unless money isn't an issue for you. Don't be so nervous about the violence. The locals told her that things have changed dramatically in the last month since the arrival of more military. Men should be prepared to be stopped at random by military and asked for ID and being questioned.

Good Luck to all!

One other thing!

After several times of referring to me as her fiance, the CO suddenly referred to me as her husband and my fiance said: "Don't you mean my fiance". She said the CO's reactions was sort of weird about that and my fiance really thinks she was trying to catch her calling me her husband. We have been living together for over 2 years so perhaps the CO thought we were already married. Drill it into your fiance's head that they need to refer to you as their fiance. I know in Mexican culture, it's common for people to refer to their significant other as husband/wife even when it's not legally the case.

Oh MY! The OC did the same thing to me too!!! Twice!! And he looked at me funny too (Very funny)!!!

He was telling me that since he paid some money when sending the packet for the first time, he's not sure we have to pay the $400USD when I go to Juarez. Could you please let us know if we have to pay those $400USD too? huh2.gif Thanks!!!!!! jest.gif

No, you don't have to pay $400 again. That was the initial fee for processing the petition. You will have to pay for the medical exam (approx USD $150) and the visa appointment fee, which used to be $131, but I hear they raised that by a few dollars.

Hey!!

I will be flying out on wed!! and my wedding is on sat!!! yipppy!!!!! star_smile.gif kicking.gif

Thanks! She said it was just a little weird. She said she saw other consulars laughing and being so nice with people and almost shouting they were approved that she was so taken back by her experience. She said she overheard a guy explaining when he was in the USA illegally and explaining why he was in jail multiple times and the guy was approved. So she was a little shocked with what happened to her. I would've been so furious if that was the reason for denial. How can they ask to see an American passport? Why is that even their business? He's an American citizen just like me. He doesn't need a damn visa to get into the country. I don't get it...............Anyways now the wait for DHL.

Yeah I was told to watch out for women consulers and American born spanish consulers... they tend to be the meanest...... sorry to hear it went so bad... But at least you got it!! I am so happy for you!! Congrads!!!

Well, my fiancee and her daughter just checked into the Holiday Inn and her first impression was that it is very nice. She said that the area around the hotel/consulate looks nice and new. She mentioned that there were a lot of military at the airport and she saw several trucks full of military while taking the taxi to the hotel. The taxi driver told her that this is the nicest area of the city and that she shouldn't be worried about anything during the day.

Tomorrow they will go for their medical exams. If there is any relevant/helpful info from that, I will post it tomorrow.

Yeah, She will be safe!! Good luck!

Hi everyone.

I'm going soon to the consulate in Juarez for my interview and I had a couple of questions.

= Does my fiance have to attend the interview or with just me (the beneficiary) its ok?

= Do my documents have to be translated? (birth certificate, police records, etc?) they are apostilled right now but I was wondering if I had to translate them.

Cheers everyone and thanks cici for the incredibly detailed and helpful comment.

You will have to stay outside, she has to go alone to the interview...

Spanish is good you don't need to translate is thats the case

I was wondering what the process is to actually crossing thru the border...Ex: what do they ask you, what are the things they ask you to do? and about how long it would take to actully cross there? I will be traveling with people that I am not Comfortable sharing my visa status with and I really don't them to over hear anything personal.

I will be crossing thru the Colombia International Bridgelocated on the US mexican Borderin the city of Laredo, Texas

She only has to say she is there for a fiance visa and she doesn't need them! they really won't fight her much

Hey Everyone Thank you so much for you support!!!

Heres My story!!!

Day 1 Monday:

Monterrey to Juarez Vivaaerobus
I met a couple on the flight that sat next to me they were also heading to juarez for a K1 Visa. We arrived around 6:55. The couple and I shared a taxi to the consulate. When we got off the taxi there was a "Consulate guide" who took us to a place to see if we were missing any forms. Of cousre this was a scam!! they wanted to charge the other couple 1000.00 peso to do the online form!!!

8 am

waited for the banks to open so I could make the payments! The banks open at 9:30
There is a mall right in front of the holiday inn/consulate were you can find a Banamex and a Bancomer
Plus you can take you picture for 65 to 75 pesos!

We got there and as easy as 1-2-3 we were done!! we were put back on the bus and taken back to the new medical place and were told to be back there at 3 on the dot NO LATER!! so that they could takes us back to pick up the exams!! When Got them they told us not to open them!!! the old medical place is 30 mins away from the new one!

Not surprising! I'm sure the COs get a cut from the photographer down the street. That's no joke!
If they don't like the pictures, do they allow you to go get them and return the same day or is an entire day that is lost because of a picture? Are there more specifications than 50cm by 50cm against a light background?

No the day is not lost! you can go out for anything that your missing... like another girl had to go out like 5 to 6 times for different things..

The picture are 65 pesos to get here!

You will not be disappointed in choosing Holiday Inn Express, Make sure you take advantage of the Continental Breakfast between 6-10am. It is not just toast and cereal. They also provide eggs, refried beans, and another hot dish which changes dailyl (Please pick up your plates after eating, as their is no actual "bus boy". Their is a gentleman who is their, and after speaking with him, he clarified the situation, so thought I would pass the word)

Medical Exam: I would recommend to arrive before 5:30am. How early that is up to you! I send my boyfriend at 5:30am which he thought I was nuts but then he said there was a lot, but a lot of people there already.

There was a couple in which we became friends with and they said they would hear people getting ready as early as 3am. we were sound asleep and did not hear anything until the alarm sounded off. Again this are my suggestions. If you arrive over the weekend, I would recommend to make friends with people who have been there a couple of days already and get the latest inside scoop! Or just let the "Dumbo" ears do the work laughing.gif

I thought that they issued the K1 visa on the same day, or early the next day.

I'm British and applied as a resident of Mexico because I had been working there for 2 years. My FM3 expired a few weeks ago just as the visa process was picking up speed so I quit work and Mexico and I'm currently back in Dallas on a tourist visa.

I understand that the consulate is closed on Friday in Ciudad Juarez. The week after dosen't work becaude it's my fiances boys birthday (they'll be 7, I can't miss that). I jsut want to get it done.

So, now I'm thinking of driving down (651 miles) on Saturday afternoon / Sunday morning. That means I'll be ready for the medical first thing on Monday. Talking of which, can you pay for this in cash or bank transfer from the U.S.?

Thanks

Paul

I thought you had to have a vaild FM3??? I am also not mexican but I am here on a FM3 .... Mine was going to expire last month but I got it renew think I would need it for the consulate at Juarez.... ( it really sucks If i didn't really need to renew ... I had my assitant working on it night and day so I would have it by the time I arrive at Juarez headbonk.gif )

If I arrive in El Paso on Monday at 3.00 p.m. Have 2 full days to have the medical, interview and collect visa. Return flight from El Paso on Thursday lunchtime with K1 visa in hand.

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks

That is exactly the timeline that my fiance had planned, but DHL didn't have his passport ready until Thursday afternoon so we ended up having to reschedule flights and book extra hotel nights. You might want to give yourself until Friday, just in case. Good luck!

Good to see you are here. I see that you are going for your interview on the 25th. Would you be so kind as to post your experience, specifically with the DHL process getting your documents back. My fiance and her daughter are going on April 3rd for their medicals. We called the medical facility two times and talked to different people and they both said the if done on Friday, the child's results will be ready on Monday. So then she will go to the consulate on Tuesday the 7th and I hope she gets the visas back the same day or Wednesday. Thursday and Friday are holidays so if something goes wrong, we will be in a tough spot as far as what to do. I booked the hotel for Wed. night and the flight back on Thurs. afternoon(in case DHL is open and they don't have them back by Wed). I really didn't want to do this with a holiday week involved but it would have pushed our times back 2 weeks and we couldn't do it then. I think we are taking a little risk and trusting god that everything will work out ok, but it should be ok unless the DHL things turns out to take longer than expected. Thanks

They are going to stay in the same hotel. It was like $54 per night through holidayinn.com Also we were able to buy roundtrip for 2 from D.F for $6,000 pesos. Not much more expensive than a bus and not mention a whole lot faster and more comfortable.

Yeah Online prices are great! We actully called the hotel to book but THEY told us to book online cause it costed less, lol... ver nice of them. I was able to get a flight for abou $1500 pesos round trip and my other half booked one for $280 UD to El Paso. It is much better to fly the bus.. Thanks

Yes I will write about my experience! I leave and arrive on monday morning to get the Banamex payments done that day tuesday I will go the Medical then Wed 25 interview.... thursday will our extra day just in case because Friday the Consulate will be closed. We are also hoping it doesn't take more then a day or two.... Where do you plan on staying?? We booked at the holiday inn right next to the consulate it was cheaper to book on line. I hope you luck on your fiancee's trip

Hi everyone! Just thought I would give you an update since Aldo got to Cuidad Juarez late last night. He is staying at the Holiday Inn Express next to the consulate, and he says the area around the embassy is very nice and he doesn't feel unsafe at all. He got in around midnight last night and said it was very quiet in the area. He went to the embassy this morning at about 7:15 and waited in line at the information window for 40 minutes to have them print out the invitation letter for him. He said it wasn't a problem at all. He just gave them the CDJ #, showed his passport, they printed the letter, and he was on his way. He then went for his medical exam, which he said was easy as well. He was back in the hotel room by 10:30, and they told him to come back at 2 pm for the results. So far, so good! I'm so so so nervous for the embassy interview tomorrow!! wacko.gif I'll keep you all posted on how it goes!

Hey,

Luck!! we wish you the best!!

WOOHOO! I called the NVC today just to check on the status of our case with them and get the case number. Our NOA2 was dated 19 Feb so I figured that possibly it was still there, but NO! The operator told me that the case has already come and gone to Juarez, it left on 25 Feb! I got the case number, so I'm sure I can contact Juarez to see where we are. Any suggestions as to how much time I should wait to see when they've sent packet 3 out?

crying.gif We got our NOA2 Jan 28 and it arrived at NVC on the 30th then left and arrived on the Feb 02 at Juarez and we are still waiting for our package to be sent to us (We only want the package to be sent so we can go to Juarez we won't wait for it to arrive) The juarez phone people said it could take up tp 6 month in the worst cases but it mignt leave in about 4 more weeks.... I am hoping that that is not ture 'cuase i have heard that some ppl get thier package SENT in one months time.

Oh no! unsure.gif Wow, that's a long time, I can't IMAGINE waiting up to 6 months MORE! I'm going to give them a call when I'm home next week to see if they've at least received it. Do you call once a week or once every couple of days to check to see if they've sent the package?

I call them once a week (can't wait see my phone bill, lol).... hopefully it won't be thatlong til we get the package sent... Maybe the guy who I talk to was giving me the worth case ?? Anyways I have looked thru timeless from ppl on VJ and most ppl get there'si in a month and a half to two months (I am really hoping that's the case)

So you're going to wait until you receive it in the mail or just until it's sent? With a "sent from NVC" date of Feb 25th, I'm wondering if we can expect an interview around mid-April or so, assuming we don't wait for the letter, just for it to be sent out.

until It's "sent" from Juarez....

NVC forwards it to Juarez then they have "send " the package... you can't go to the interveiw unless Juarez has "sent" package 3 themself to you because they have to consider you coming in for an interview or someting like that...sometimes the package never arrives to your mail and that's why we call every week, so that way as soon as juarez tells me they have mailed it we will be on our way there!!

Note: it doesn't matter that NVC sends the package to Juarez you have to wait until Juarez mails the Package 3 to you crying.gif but you Don't have to wait until you get the hard copy in the mail...

I hope they ship your letter out soon! I imagine you should expect it to be sent any time now (although the timeline for sending it out is all over the place), just based on the average time that it's taking, as you mentioned earlier! smile.gif

yes.gif
Yeah , lol. The aporx timeline does say it's going to be soon.... I am just not very good at waiting, lol headbonk.gif

It's very hard to wait when the out come will change you life!! Two weeks after the package arrives I getting married!! lol

Maybe your right, vivamex. I don't want to screw things up by changing my address this far into the process.

Since I didn't receive the NOA1 and the mail here is notoriously unreliable, I can pretty much guarantee that I won't get the NOA2 OR the NVC letter. If that is the case, can I go to the Juarez embassy with only the NVC case number (no letter at all) if I call them and confirm that they HAVE sent the invitation letter out?

Seems strange that it takes so long to receive in Mexico. Although I've lived here for almost 3 years and I've witnessed just how long it can take for something to arrive at its destination. My lawyer, however, received a copy of the letter from the consulate and sent it to me via email. It was dated Feb. 10 and he sent it to me on Feb. 17. It was the appointment letter. It states that they are ready and it listed the web address of all the instructions and forms and states that she has an open appointment for the interview. I assume this means she can go but I'm wondering how long it will be until we receive the letter at our address in Mexico?

Yeah... sometimes they only send one package ... either the person in the states or the person in mexico.... It's the way in which they feel like sending it too ( Via US postal service or mexican mail)..... there are times in which the package never arrives .... ONLY IN MEXICO (lol) but you have a package so now you can go at anytime mon thru Fri. which is a good thing!

I still have crying.gif not gotten my Package 3 sent crying.gif .... waiting wand waiting

Sorry to hear your packet 3 hasn't been sent yet. Patience is a virtue that is difficult to have during this process. I'm curious to know how they select which applicants receive their packet 3 and when. The consulate received my NOA2 after you, yet when I called this past weekend they said my packet 3 was sent on 2/19. After questioning further I found out that "sent" doesn't mean in the mail. It means the invitation letter has been written and "sent" to another department within the consulate. Have you called to ask about yours?

Yes I call them every week crying.gif ( I am going to make rich people in juarez whistling.gif ) ..... I don't know how they work over there at all ( It's mexico) The good thing is you have permission to go to juarez ...

Thank you cici that was really helpful! We're planning on going to the SSP in Merida and Cancun to get the letters, along with a letter from Marcos' tiny little pueblo where he lived for most of his life. I've been living with him in Mexico (save for a few short trips to the U.S.) since 2007 and we have a baby together who was born here (and he does have his consular report of birth abroad certificate, along with american AND mexican passports). We've got a TON of photos of us together (and with our son), I have one boarding pass (I never thought to save my other ones. dangit!), and itinerary from a trip we took to the riviera maya with my mom, and a few other things. I'm not TOO concerned about evidence, but I am more concerned about the affidavit of support.

For the last year I only worked a couple of months and I really haven't made any money since moving to Mexico. I've been mainly supported by some very generous aunts and uncles back in the US and, of course, my mom and my fiancee. So since I'm his fiancee, I know I'm going to have to do an affidavit of support, and my mom is going to do one as well. The only problem is, my mom didn't make very much money until the middle of last year, so her income on her tax returns for last year and this year are going to be low, but squeaking by over the poverty line (plus assets of a home). I know that on the I-134 it asks for a bank letter, job letter, and tax returns. She got a fairly large settlement last year (but used a lot of it for bills and to fix the house) so that'll make the bank letter ok, and since her current income is higher than last year, that'll be ok, too, but the tax returns are what's bothering me. I'm just hoping that they take more into consideration the bank and job letters than the tax returns.

I'm also wondering if it would be worth our while to get bloodwork done here in Merida to make sure that my fiancee doesn't have any issues before we make the trip to juarez. When he was in the prepa he came down hepatitis A, which I've read is quite common, even in the U.S. Better safe than sorry, and if it's something that *might* effect a medical exam, it would be better to have a letter from a doc here saying that it's under control. Ugh, maybe I'm thinking/worrying too much.

What I have heard from alot of other ppl who post here that the income is a big deal in juarez... Is it possible for you to get another family member to co sponser you? You can have more then one sponser.... that's an Idea.... Just to be on the safe side of things....and usally bank statments and things like that are good are good and they will most like look at your current finacal situation then older stuff.

lol... I thought the same thing last week and so we got x-rays done lol.... I have been reading if you had something of a health problem that you have to show it is taken care of before you go to juarez..... so it best to know before hand of any medical conditions.... remember to take letters from doctors stating he's better.... ( remember this is all need to knowso if they don't ask why tell them he was sick)
