K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsSilly Question
Are you in K1 process?
Well, I was to. I never received nothing from Juarez in Mexico. They send the packet by ordinary mail. My fiance (now my husband) received the packet in USA and I went to the interview with that packet. Actually the packet hasn't arrived in Mexico yet, at least nobody has told me nothing to this respect. If I had been waiting for I will never being in USA hahaha!!. My recommendation is that if your fiance/ee in USA will receive the packet you can go with it to the interview. Good luck.

Middle East and North AfricaTranslators ~

Hi ~ Which translators are used for official documents? Do they need to meet certain criteria to be accepted and considered authentic? Any info would be appreciated rose.gif

Most of us here in VJ have done the translation that are needed for imigration. If you or your fiance/ee knows both languages he/she/you can do it. Only you can put the legend that the person who was translated the document knows both languages and that he/she is competent on this translation... sign and notarize it.

CanadaPolice Certificate from SYRIA will take too long..
Sorry to butt in on a Canada thread, but Packet 3 from Ciudad Juarez lets people know that they don't need certain police clearances. For example, we don't have to get one from Mexico because the Department of State doesn't consider it to have them. I believe the OP may be dealing with a similar issue.
http://ciudadjuarez...._3_complete.pdf I'm thinking it's actually not updated because it lists Syria as a country you can't get a police certificate from, whereas the DOS does.

Audy_Rob found this cool link for me related to Mexico in an earlier thread:
http://travel.state....ocity_3586.html

You just switch it for your country. The DOS says that the place where they issued police certificates in Iraq is currently in ruins.

It says Syrian records can be obtained from the embassy, so I would definitely wait for them. I highly doubt you will have your interview before you get the police records, and if you do and they want it, you will just have to supply it when it gets there hopefully. If in doubt about the Iraqi records, I would contact the embassy where you are filing and ask if it is completely necessary. Personally, the State Department website is good enough for me.

CanadaProving domicile when not living in the U.S.
Thanks for the advice, Trailmix. I am already working on my domicile letter and you make a good point about a lease. I'm not expecting a lot of trouble as the consul? in Mexico City said they're more concerned about us having a place to stay, which is why your advice makes especially good sense. I'm glad to get a second opinion as I kept imagining all sorts of grim scenarios. I had been most concerned because most people doing DCF get a joint sponsor and I wasn't sure if it was possible to do it without, but hopefully they will accept paystubs at the interview.

CanadaProving domicile when not living in the U.S.
Hi, I'm doing DCF from Mexico, but this thread is addressing most of my concerns. I have never heard of any cases rejected for domicile in Mexico, but I don't want to be the first. Here's my questions:
1. Do you think moving back after Packet 3 (I-864 and DS-230) is soon enough to re-establish domicile or do I need to establish it before the I-864?
2. I won't be starting back at my job until after Packet 3 (that's the plan.) and we don't want to use a cosponsor. I should be alright with proving my income as long as I have paystubs before the interview, right? Or is it likely that the consulate will ask for them at the I-864 stage if I'm doing DCF?

In terms of re-establishing domicile, I think I fit in with #2, temporary absence because I was a part-US resident on my 2009 taxes and I am going back to the same job and have my driver's license, voter's registration and US bank account.
Thanks in advance for any help!

OMG Hopp, I just saw your post! LOL they definitely should! I registered with the embassy in case of emergencies, and this is the first time I have gotten one of those things. CJ is so ridiculously dangerous but since they just built the new embassy I don't think they plan to move it. I have heard some crazy stuff about shootings at restaurants in the city. I feel like they have a real need to cut down on the immigrants ;)

On a more serious note, I hope everyone makes it through the tsunami ok.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsGetting married on April 11th in Indonesia, will we have time for her to return with me?
This is what the US Embassy in Jakarta says:
Marriage in Indonesia requires a religious ceremony. Indonesian law requires that both parties must be of the same religion and the marriage must conform to the laws of the countries of the parties involved. Four religions are recognized in Indonesia: Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Christianity (Catholic/Protestant). Depending on the type of religious marriage ceremony, there are different requirements to make a marriage in Indonesia legally valid.

If your fiancé is Muslim, the ceremony must be held at the local Office of Religious Affairs (Kantor Urusan Agama (KUA)). The KUA will issue a Marriage Book (Buku Nikah), which is evidence of a legally valid marriage with a Muslim. A Muslim marriage ceremony does not need Civil Registration (Catatan Sipil).

Other religious ceremonies require Civil Registration. If you are a Christian, Buddhist, or Hindu you must hold the religious ceremony first, then record the marriage with the Civil Registry Office (Dinas Kependudukan or Kantor Catatan Sipil). The Civil Registry will issue a Marriage Certificate (Akte Perkawinan or Surat Nikah), which is evidence of a legally valid marriage with a non-Muslim.

Both religious and civil documentary requirements may vary from district to district. Contact the office where your marriage will take place or be registered for more information.

Please get extra official records of your marriage. There is no central repository of civil actions, including marriages, in Indonesia. So it may be impossible to obtain an official record of your marriage in the future. The U.S. government has no record of marriages that occur outside of the U.S.

Indonesian authorities require all non-Indonesian citizens to obtain a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage from their embassy prior to marriage in Indonesia. Download the form and instructions here.

To bring your spouse to the U.S. you must first file an Immigrant Petition (I-130) for him/her as soon as possible. Please see our Immigrant Visa web page

Middle East and North Africadevistated...now what?
Gaeliza, if you are feeling really depressed, you need to get some kind of help - talking to us can be helpful, hotline, good friends or even your local emergency room. I'm sure that you have put so much into this relationship that it seems like way too much to handle.

Please bear in mind that your husband may not be in any control of the situation. It is much more likely that his family is. I also have my doubts about your divorce being real, too. Or that your husband even wrote you that email. Middle Eastern families are very important to their members, and yes, they can dictate what the adult member will do.

Take it slow. At this point, you do not know what is real and what is not. Breath. Watch tv. Take a walk. Talk to good friends. Let things play out.

It is good that you found out whether he was coming into the US or not. That is good to keep an eye on. He has four months to do so from your timeline. That does change my first response, because I thought he only had a few days left. Even if he manages to come in, the minute he comes in to a new address without changing his address, he has violated procedure.

We are here supporting you; keep your chin up.

Middle East and North Africadevistated...now what?
I actually wouldn't be surprised if what he told you was true. Families in the Middle East operate on different values than in the West. From a psychological perspective, we come from an individualistic society whereas they are from a society-centered society. I think it is a HUGE deal that you never met his parents. He probably never told them he was married, in my opinion. They probably had no idea he was planning on switching continents. Also, he only has less than a month to enter the US so I doubt he will.

I hope you get some peace and truth soon.

Middle East and North AfricaFamily B2 Visa Denied
My husband's B1/B2 was denied before we got married. I contacted my Congressman and they told me they could look into the reason he was denied, and if we made a second interview they would contact the embassy on our behalf. You might want to try that since I imagine you would like support in your new life (to see them for your wedding, etc.) I know it was very upsetting to me that we had to get married without my husband having met anyone in my family in person thanks to the strictness of tourist visas from Mexico. If you go to the Congressman or Senator's website for your district, you can usually find a form to contact them. They will probably get back to you and ask you to fax a permission form or mail it.
Good luck and sorry they got denied.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsUsing Skype for phone calls
QUOTE (dragonboy69 @ Aug 23 2009, 04:10 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I was messaging another member and thought I would share this information with others on here that could benefit as well.

"I was having trouble texting my girlfriend with my phone (sometimes they would not go through) and it cost .25 each one so it started to add up, and phone calls were too expensive. I used Skype before to talk with some other friends I had in Thailand, it was pretty cool you could make a phone call through it for free. The free part was limited for computer to computer if you are both using Skype, but then I found out you could pay to make calls and texts to landlines or cell phones. The rate for Thailand is .11 so it was very affordable and the sound quality was pretty good too.

As I used their pay service something popped up about a monthly subscription in Skype. The subscription was only $5.95 a month for unlimited calls.... I was blown away. Then I discovered something even better, that I could use my cell phone to call with this unlimited plan (or landline), you don't have to call through the computer. What they do is provide you with a local Skype number, then you call that and set up contacts to call, when you select your contact it dials through Skype and connects you. So, for $5.95 a month you can call at any time and talk for as long as you want. Sometimes on my cell phone the quality is not as good, but I am sure on a landline it would be better (I always use my cell because I don't have a home phone). I used to call through my work and it was free (I work at a global company so they have unlimited calling anywhere), but I had to sneak the calls, so using my phone is way more convenient.

All you have to do is download Skype from www.skype.com, if your family has a computer you can just use it for free through their Skype to Skype calling (or they can go to internet cafes if they have one) and you can also do video calling. It's definitely cheaper than any calling card, and sometimes those cards have bad reception anyway. It has been a plus for me because now I can document my calls and text to her for the visa interview."

I got so excited but then I noticed that it doesnt work for Mexico (except for landlines in 3 cities). Hmmm wonder why?

Stephen and others,
I need some advice. My husband and I are finishing all of the paperwork for AOS. He just had a physical in Juarez last month to get his K1. The ONLY Civil Surgeon within hours of our home said that he will not fill out the Form I-693 unless he can perform another physical. We said that Roberto doesn't need another physical he just needs a few vaccines. I read on VJ that we don't need a new physical. I also called USCIS and they said that I don't need a new physical. Roberto went today to the doctor and they gave him the shots he is missing and they took blood. They told him to return on Thursday for the exam and the results. They are charging him over $300.00. I plan to go with him when he returns on Thursday. What can I say or what can I take with me to convince the doctor that Roberto does not need a new physical but to please fill out Form I-693.
Genny

Sorry im guessing a little here 'cause you are ahead of most of us in this process. did you make a copy of his vaccinations he got b4 the interview? if so i would take it with you. i know ive seen this type of concern b4 here on vj so just go to the AOS section and go to the bottom of the page and type in the search bar key words like - already been vaccinated or another physical or civil surgeon said - but thats the way i found out most of my concerns here. or just ask in the AOS forum. sorry i cant help much 'cause your already ahead of us in the process mari joe

Thanks Mari Joe,
He does have a copy of the vaccines and they do not intend to administer more vaccines. They only gave him the three he was missing. What they do insist upon is giving him another full physical and charging him for it even though he just had one with a civil surgeon in Juarez Mexico. I'll looking through AOS forums to see if I can find an answer.

Some of the posts in the thread ("so what if she's scamming me? I get to 'hit that' for three years and then I can get a new one!") are exactly the kind of stuff that cause people to look askance at IMBs and marriages that come about through them. I know every case is different, and I'm willing to bet that most people who meet their SOs through IMBs are not like the guys who posted that kind of #######. But it does grind my gears that people like those guys are clogging up the system leading to longer waits for people like Elisha and me who actually met in person and developed our relationship while living in the same country.

I've missed you too! I won't be going with her to the interview. They don't allow SO's in during the interview and from what I have read, there is little or no benefit. So will save the money and use it for some trips when she is here.

I don't know when she'll interview. We're waiting for the medical to be sure there are no snags. We're crossing our fingers she won't need a sputum culture, but it's always a possibility since there's a high percentage of folks who do require that. It'd mean an 8 week delay.

Also, she has a conference she needs to attend for her work, as well as training a replacement. I tried nudging her to just skip the conference, but she wouldn't feel comfortable doing that and I (reluctantly) agree it wouldn't be right.

I didn't go back too far in catching up, but didn't see any update on your and Lars? Any word?

Dear Stan,
You rock, you rock, you rock! I had no idea you could sort of track the DHL package that they sent from NVC. I followed your instructions and here is what I found.
A package that could be mine (because it was sent by the Department of State) reads as follows.
Shipment delivered.
Delivered on: 8/20/2009 12:20 pm

I guess it could be a different person's package but I'm gonna go ahead and think it is mine. There are two other people that have similar timelines to mine though.

Did you speak to a person at NVC? (push 5) Because even though our file was there for two weeks it never showed up in the automated system. When I asked if I would be able to check it from the automated line they said "no, because 129fs move through NVC so quickly they don’t put them in the system." I called three times and spoke to a person each time. The first two told me it had already been sent to the embassy and then said...uh, oh, no...it is going through Additional Processing with “no time frame for release.” Fortunately they got it through and out in two weeks during which time I was trying to think of all the reasons that the FBI might have a record on me… : innocent.gif
