US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS-156 Question 39, yes or no?

You could print it, sign it, then scan it really high resolution, and email it.  Or you could just leave it blank, I don't see how something like that could matter

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionpaper work not at the embassy and it been three weeks

I couldn't find anything on the Mumbai consulate site, but on the Phnom Penh Embassy site, their instructions are to wait 6 weeks from the time NVC recieves the approved I-129F.  According to your timeline, you have 3 weeks to go before getting worried

Tried everything suggested.  The problem is universal.  Anyway let's make lots of NOISE!!! go to http://www.travel.st...ntact_4746.html to report the problem.  If you have an interview coming up soon just use the fillable PDF: http://www.state.gov...tion/108128.pdf

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS-156 Electronic Form

No, having issues on it as well.  I click continue, and depending on the browser, I get some form of this error message:

"An error occurred on the server when processing the URL. Please contact the system administrator."

or

"Error 500"

Looking over the forums, looks like it's a common problem.  Keep trying.  I just leave the window open for the application, then I periodically refresh (my data stays in the boxes) and hit continue.  They probably have an iffy server processing these, sometimes it works, sometimes not...

They do state that the barcode helps them process the document faster, but if it doesnt work, I suggest getting the fillable pdf at http://www.state.gov...tion/108128.pdf and then explaining the situation to them, maybe even print out a screenshot.  You wont have the barcode, but the form should still be valid

stat.gov has the fillable PDF at http://www.state.gov...tion/108128.pdf, but you would not get the generated barcode from the online form.

To specify, I don't get any errors and can fill it out, but when I hit continue, which is supposed to generate the form, I get the errors I stated earlier

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS-156 Online Form NOT Working

It appears the online form for DS-156 found at evisaforms(dot)state(dot)gov website is not working.

I have tried multiple browsers, all have the Acrobat Plugin v11+, and all give me an http 500 error, something like:

"An error occurred on the server when processing the URL. Please contact the system administrator." (Firefox, Chrome)

or

"This error (HTTP 500 Internal Server Error) means that the website you are visiting had a server problem which prevented the webpage from displaying." (IE)

Can anyone corroborate this please?

If you can get it working on your computer, please let me know.

If not, help me brainstorm ways around this.

Thanks

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionwhat if noa2 expires before interview date?
My understanding is that you have until the time your noa2 expires to communicate with the embassy and send in packet 3. I know loss of people's whose interview date was after noa2 expiration, and they had no problem. Remember noa2 comes from USCIS, but you aren't dealing with USCIS, you are dealing with the department of state

United KingdomThings you need to do before leaving the UK

It might be worth applying for an international driving license at the post office before you move. If I'd have done so, I'd be able to drive right now according to the SC DMV, but I can't drive as a tourist on my UK license and they reckon I'm gonna have to hold a beginner's permit for 6 months and take the whole test again >.>.

I read elsewhere that the international driving license is only useful if your existing one isn't in English

Additionally, for the I-134 it states

"I have stocks and bonds with the following market value, as indicated on the attached list, which I certify..."

Is "the attached list" of your own/financial advisor creation or is there something official I am missing?

Also, despite not having a formal valuation on our US property, shall we include it as a rough estimate or just leave it off?

Cheers!

United KingdomLondon I-134 Self Co-Sponsor

Hello,

I realise this has been gone over quite a bit, however as I've pieced most of it together from all of the place I wanted to put it down all in one to make sure I've got it right.

We're looking at how to complete the I-134 as part of a K-1.

My sponsor is currently unemployed, so we are going for assets as proof.

This means we need 5x 125% of the current poverty line, which according to this government website for 2 people (Sponsor and I) is $15,510

That comes out at ((15,510/100)*125)*5=  $96937.5

If the sponsor has over this amount in shares, will a statement from her financial advisor suffice?

Despite no longer being in that job, I believe we also need to include her tax return from the previous year?

I also have sufficient savings to self sponsor, so as a just in case I am thinking I may as well prepare for that also.

I believe for that I require 12 months of statements, average balance, details of large deposits, totals of withdrawals and deposits.

There appears to be no form for this, so is it a case of paper clip it them together with a nice summary sheet of my own creation?

Does that all look correct?

Cheers!

United KingdomGetting Email Packet 3

Hello,

I seem to remember reading you once you have the LND case number you can ask for them to email your packet 3.

Is this the case?  If so, any ideas who I need to call?

Cheers

United KingdomStill no packet 3, DS-160 submitted, now what

Heya,

I have our LND case number from NVC, according to their site it was processed on 22nd November.

However, we still havent heard anything from the London embassy.

I've gone ahead and submitted the DS-160 last week.

I'm feeling a little lost, What should I be doing now?

Can I go ahead and book the medical ?

Cheers!

I was just rereading the confirmation email from the DS-160, it states the following

YOU MUST BRING the confirmation page and the following document(s) with you at all steps during the application process:

Passport; Evidence of approved I-129F

We never received a letter version of the NOA2, only the email - would a print out of the email be sufficient ?

Cheers!

United KingdomBorder experience of fiance's long visit to the UK

Hey, I thought I'd share our experience on this

We are in the process of filling for the K1 and couldnt stand to be apart ...you know how it is

As my Fiance is out of work we decided she may as well come stay with me in Nottingham whilst we wait.

We booked her return flight for late March so she'd be here for 5 months, so we expected some extra questions to be asked at immigration.

She flew direct from Phoenix to Heathrow, and sure enough was stopped at immigration for some extra questions once they ascertained how long she'd be coming for.

We had printed out her return ticket and a copy of the K1 packet we'd submitted.

He looked at it all, not thoroughly but it appeared to count in her favour.

He asked all the questions you'd expect; why are you coming for so long, where are you staying, what I did for a living.  Nothing challenging that sticks out.

He then asked for my phone number and called me.

That followed a similar line, "are you expecting someone into the country?", then all the same questions he'd asked her.

At the end of our conversation he told me, that was all good and she'd be through shortly.

All in all, nerve racking but straight forward

All the best and happy Christmas!

Explain the discrepancy to me. What does the box at the bottom say?

Oooo I just reread it again with a calmer minder and we might be in the clear

Here is a piccy of it

I was worried that it "2 results" isnt "vaccine history complete..."

Looking again now it seems I actually may be in the clear

Ok thanks. I was worried they'd simply use the box at the bottom as a summary and not look at the rest. I guess it wouldn't do any harm to include a cover note with the form to explain the discrepancy

Thanks for all the help

United KingdomWhat to ask for from medical

Hmm, I might have screwed up a bit

Everything went fine, except for I turned down the Flu Vaccination and now the DS-3025 states incomplete.

My thinking was I wont be applying for AoS until April, so the vaccination would not be requried at that point.

Do you think this will be a problem ?

Hello,

I remember reading somewhere that after the medical you should ask for a copy of something from the doctor that can be used in the AoS process.

I think it was something that would certify you've had your vaccinations.

Is this still the case and if so what would they call it and who should I ask?

Have mine tomorrow afternoon, nervous but otherwise ready!

Thanks in advance!

I ask because my gp takes weeks to give you an appointment for non urgent cases and I need to get this asap!

Have you tried making a nurse appointment ?

At my pratice a nurse did the vaccinations for me, then I got her to print off the record afterwards.  Its been my experience that even in busy surgeries you can get a nurse appointment within a week.

(that said, I'd follow Nich's advice first:))

United KingdomCheap one way on BA with Avios

Heya all,

I'd been looking at plane tickets off and on for a while and thought I'd share some findings ....

I'm specifically looking at direct LHR->PHX flights, BA are the only ones that do direct flights from the UK so thats all I've looked at

LHR->PHX is pretty cheap in the winter months and the availabilty of reward seats is good, other routes will likely be harder to work around.

BA say (and I havent disproved) they offer the cheapest flights on their site, so prices for this are from there

One way £1436

Return  £578  (£289 * 2)

Ridiculous but we've probably all noticed returns are cheaper. I've read that it is due to carriers putting extra fees on for people returning within a week so they can scalp business fliers

I found you can get a relatively cheap one way ticket if you have some avios points to spend.  I got mine for:

£247 + 25k Avios

This only really works if you already have some Avios hanging around.  You can buy avios points for cash but 25k costs £415 so not worth it, but you have some from previous visits right? smile.png

For reference a return (same days as cash listed above) costs

£379 + 50k Avios

So actually a better deal but not what I wanted; though you might want to save points for return to England at some point...

Also, its commonly said online that upgrading a seat is a more cost effective way of using Avios points.  That may be the case but for me at this time, saving money now was more important!

A neat advantage of flying one way is you get 2 bags for free instead of 1.  Your first extra bag in economy normally costs £40 (£120 for other classes/3rd bag)

Heya,

Does anyone know how this works?  Mainly, how do they notify me its read for collection?

United KingdomHow long will the embassy keep my passport?

When traveling inside the European Union, you don't need a passport. National ID card is sufficient.

I dont think this is true for United Kingdom as we are not part of the Schengen Agreement

United KingdomHow long does the POE normally take?

At Phoenix they are pretty great, especially now the LHR flight is the only international clearing immigration at one time.

I've been the first/only person in the queue before; I picked a seat near the plane door then walked very quickly

... then I had to wait for them thoroughly search the box of food/presents I was bringing ^_^

United KingdomFlying a dog in cargo with British Airways from UK to US

Trouble is, when you look into flying a pet in the cargo with BA they insist that you use a pet export service. It's going to be expensive to use this service. Is there any way around this?

I was told by one of the airlines that this is now an import requirement of the USA; In other words any pets shipped 'as cargo' must be booked through an agent

As has been said the alternative is to take the Dog in the cabin as excess baggage.  I'm not sure how that works, asI was looking at taking a bird and nobody will do that from LHR -> LAX :(

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionSelf-sponsorship for the I-134?

I realise this is an old thread, however as this is the top google result for "i-134 self sponsor" I thought I'd chime in ...

I don't know if you've looked at the London embassy website, but they do discuss using the applicants own funds.
http://london.usemba...faffidavit.html

This page has disappeared now, you can still get it via the way back when machine

Here is what the page said, I guess despite disappearing it still applies

Applicants Own Funds

An applicant who expects to be able to meet the public charge provisions of the law through personal financial resources may submit to the consular officer evidence of funds or income from one or more of the following sources:

  • bank statement showing present balance of applicant's account, date account was opened, the number and amount of deposits and withdrawals during the past 12 months, and the average balance during the year. If there have been recent unusually large deposits, an explanation thereof should be given;
  • proof of ownership of property or real estate, in the form of a title deed or the equivalent and a letter from a lawyer, or real estate agent showing its present valuation (any mortgages or loans against the property must be stated);
  • letter or letters verifying ownership of stocks and bonds, with present market value or expected earnings indicated;
  • statement from insurance company showing policies held and present case surrender value;
  • proof of income from business investments or other sources.

If the financial resources are derived from a source outside the United States, a statement as to how the funds or income are to be transferred to the U.S. must be provided.
