K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat does relatively fast mean?
Technically I believe you can know her, meet her in person and file the paperwork on the same day. Whether or not that will fly with the powers that be is another story. You should 'get to know her' for as long as it takes to establish a good relationship, to know each other. You want to be comfortable with someone before you start the process so that you are not wasting your time, her time and lots of money. Good luck on your journey.

You took her family to Jollibee??? I thought you loved her!

Just kidding! A lot of the Filipinos around here used to eat at Jollibee in the PI, but now they consider it cruel and unusual punishment. It reminds them of home, but not in a good way.

Yes, Jollibee is definitely low rent but that's the burger franchise in PI so that's what you get. Will be glad to introduce my fiancée to one of my grilled burgers when she gets here.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow to get a human on the NCSC customer support line
Don't press any buttons at all. This will make the system think that you have a rotary phone. A Tier 1 operator will come on soon. They might speak in Spanish. Just say 'English please'. Now you have a 'real' person. If you don't get the answer that you want after speaking to the Tier 1, ask for a Tier 2 ISO. They have access to much more information.

Sorry, this is OT, but what is a "touch" on your timeline?

All it means is that someone at the service center scanned your petition for some reason. It does not mean that they did anything to it other than scan it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresShe had her interview yesterday
I am assuming that the appeal must be done in person. Maybe this is a US Embassy in Singapore thing. I have heard of some that had their interview in Manila and did not need the police cert from Singapore.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresShe had her interview yesterday

They want a police clearance. the background on this is that my Fiancee is a Philippine citizen living and working in Singapore. Sometime back in November the Singaporean police decided to stop issuing police clearances for non singaporeans. Then suddenly a week before the interview (without our knowledge) they decided to allow visa applicants to appeal this allowing them to get a police clearance. We didn't know this going into the interview because we had already checked into it thoroughly before the interview but by the time it was changed we had already had everything put together for the interview. We didn't find out about the change until the interview.

Sorry about your interview problems.

Was it the embassy in Singapore that says that you can now appeal the police certificate for non-Singapore citizens or is it something on the Singapore Police website? I can not find on the website where it says that you can appeal. My fiancée worked in Singapore for a year and will be interviewing in Manila soon. I am wondering if this is a requirement from the US Embassy in Singapore.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures5 months since our NOA1

It`s been exactly 5 months(Oct 7, 2010) since we received our NOA1 from the California SC( phone text message. snail mail a week later) I called USCIS today and the call left me a little befuddled. I was told that I was still within the 5 month processing time. So they will give me a reason tomorrow ? I was told the date they are currently working on K-1 cases from Sept 16,2011. However the VJ time line says NOV 7, 2010. Is this normal ?

Did you talk to a Tier 1 Operator or a Tier 2 ISO?

When she pays the visa fee at BPI, she will need her passport, a copy of the biographical page of her passport, and $350 in Philippine Pesos. And possibly her MNL number.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThoughts on the 90 day ceremony deadline

If you want more than 90 days to plan a big wedding for family, you could use the 6 months' validity of the visa to plan the wedding, then do the POE, and finalize everything in the 88 days after the POE, and get married on day 89 - that'd give you almost 9 months to plan ;)

If your going to cut is that close, don't lose track of the time or miss count your days. That would really suck. :bonk: :bonk: :bonk:

The cost of the vaccines is included in the cost of the medical exam at St Luke's. If you decide to not get vaccines at St. Luke's and get them somewhere else, it will be at your own expense. It is not any cheaper to not get them at St. Luke's.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-129F package

hi... me and my Filipina fiance is still preparing ter of the I-129F package... we decided not to get a lawyer(is it ok if we don't have one?), we both researched and carefully followed the steps, hope everything goes smoothly... just want to ask some questions from you guys since you're quite ahead of us... should the letter of intent to marry be notarized by a lawyer or a letter with our signatures enough? I saw an example from a friend who also processed K1, their letter of intent was an affidavit and was notarized(they had a lawyer, I just thought...maybe it was overly done...)

thank you so much for your help, looking forward to get this package ready by next week, thank you.

no need to notarized the letter of intent

Middle East and North Africafood changes
I came back from Jamaica with a yucky stomach virus! It was definitely from the difference between Jamaican and American food. I was fine while in Jamaica but I guess the food there was more nutritional than what we eat here! Plus I made the mistake of drinking water there once!

Middle East and North AfricaYour Mate
What made you attracted to your mate?
Well since I met Marlon online, the first thing that I noticed about his personality was that he was very easy going as well as interested in what I had to say. I did see a photo of him and he is very beautiful and gorgeous in my eyes but by having a long-distance relationship, communication is what we have had to build. I love the fact that we can talk about anything and the way he always asks if I am alright everytime that I call him.

What was different about them that made you take a second and third look ect...?

My mother always taught me to take everything with a grain of salt. At the beginning of getting to know one and other online, I maintained distance when it came to how I was starting to feel about him. We had a few disagreements online and those are difficult because the keyboard does not amply express how one feels! He write me poetry! No man has ever done that for me before! After awhile we realized that he and I both want the same things out of life. We realized that our sense of humor is similar and we often knew what the other was thinking and what they would say!

What stereo types did you have to break down for your family to accept your mate...?

Thankfully my mother was very accepting of our relationship. Granted she only saw photos and spoke with him on the phone. Sadly she passed away in October. Before she left this world, I was crying and apologizing about how she would not get to meet him or see us married etc. She told me that he looks and sounds like a nice person and that I would be very happy. She also told me I would make a great mommy and coming from here that was a HUGE compliment! For the most part the rest of my family has been very supportive. Other than the occasional "he's using you for a green card" from bystanders is all I have really had to deal with. Marlon also heard that "American women go to Jamaica only for a fling and have many men in different countries." lol Bottom line: nobody has the right to judge Marlon or I or what we have. We are both secure in the knowledge of love, ourselves, and God.

Middle East and North AfricaQuestion about SO's race
I so dislike the word "race" as we are ALL of the same race human. My mom used to make an extra place and write human! lol This thread is interesting though because Marlon is from Jamaica and considers himself to be Caribbean (sp?) Has anyone seen an option for him?

Middle East and North Africayour husbands job in america?
Marlon is not here yet but in Jamaica he worked as an optical technician for many years without a degree. He then moved to England for over 6 years and worked for various factories. He just returned to Jamaica last year and currently he is managing a bus and a taxi. We have spoken about what he wants to do here and either he will attend classes to get a degree for optical technician or he will work construction because I told him how much they make here. While he is here and cannot work and beyond, he assured me he wants to cook, clean, and do the laundry! When I asked him what I was supposed to do he told me just to sit and look pretty! lol We'll see!

I think everyone who has to be separated from a loved one during a VJ and doesn't have a webcam should receive a complementary one in the mail along with their NOA1......compliments of the USCIS.....as a way of saying "thank you for your petition" and "we hope this helps keep you sane until you finally get your visa"

I wish we had one. His village is so small it's beyond cost-prohibitive for him to even get a computer line, at 110JD/month. (1JD=US$1.40). So he emails me from work sometimes, but we're stuck talking on the phone pretty much.

[/quote]

I second that! Marlon lives in the country and it's expensive enough to pay just the electric bills, Jamaica is notorious for island wide blackouts! We just text message and sometimes talk on the phone and depend on 2 week or more long snail mail. I haven't seen him since September 11, 2006 and when he sent me his passport photo, you can imagine how long I stared at it! lol I have photos of him all over my apartment but I envy those of you who "see" your sweetie often!
