I forgot to mention/ask advice about this.

The Miami POE kept the whole packet that Marlon presented to them. Any chance that we may get it back? It's not a big deal as Marlon has an extra copy of his BC. I know that we have to submit the certified copy of our marriage license for AOS and I only paid for one, it was $18.50. The lady at the court advised me to use it first to change my name and for my SS card and passport name change before we send it for AOS. Does that sound about right?

Also Kelly (Luvtrav) Marlon will be emailing you if he hasn't done so already in order for his dad and step mom to book some tickets through you for Jamaica.

This made me so sad. Andre cooks nearly every night. If I cook more then twice a month, I am complaining.

Consider yourself lucky yes.gif Tony doesn't get home from work most nights until 6 or 7pm. By the time he showers and gets ready to cook, it's getting late. I usually like to eat around 6 or 7 - if he started cooking that late, we wouldn't eat til 9. Not to mention, he's dead tired on most days and doesn't feel like cooking. Needless to say, we go out a lot or get carry-out innocent.gif

We have some of the same problems, Rhonda. I work two jobs and Andre's shifts vary; but are mostly the opposite of mine. He cooks when he can and I eat them as leftovers. Works wonderfully well.

I'm not much on carryout or eating out too much. I just get so tired of it.

Sarah......so glad to see you on here. Andre was asking how Marlon was doing.

Hiya Kelly and thanks! good.gif Tell Andre thanks as well! Marlon is doing extremely well. Today we found a very nice lady from St. Croix to braid his hair, she only charges us $10.00 bucks so that makes me happy! Other than that he has been watching alot of movies and surfing the web. Since I work 2 jobs I don't see him much but we spend time together most evenings and on weekends. He is an early to bed and early rise while I stay up later and sleep in! I will have him give Andre a call sometime!

Three days of 'Curefest' in western Jamaica
published: Thursday | September 20, 2007

Reggae artiste Jah Cure addresses journalists at the launch of 'Curefest', a series of concerts, at the Cable and Wireless Golf Acadamy on Tuesday. - Colin Hamilton/Freelance Photographer

Singer Jah Cure will make his first major performance in Jamaica since his release from prison on the third and last day of his very own 'Curefest', slated for Friday, October 12, to Sunday, October 14, in Trelawny and St. James.

And when he performs on Longing For, the climactic concert at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium in Greenwood, he will be far from alone. Dennis Howard of Jahmento Productions outlined an extensive line-up of performers to those gathered for the official 'Curefest' launch at the Cable and Wireless Golf Academy, New Kingston, on Tuesday evening.

Among the nearly 50 scheduled performers are Morgan Heritage, Cocoa Tea, Lady Saw, George Nooks, Tarrus Riley, Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Capleton, Ninja Man, Queen Ifrika, Barrington Levy, TOK, Wayne Marshall, Mavado and Prodigal Son. Howard also announced that Beres Hammond is the big surprise for 'Curefest'.

Line of performers

Hammond is not the only standout performer whose name was not on the screen who will also be a part of 'Curefest', as Karen Smith will be performing, along with Etana and Live Wyya, at the festival opening 'Reflections', an all-white birthday party for Jah Cure, which will be hosted by the singer at the Starfish Hotel in Trelawny.

On Saturday, October 13, the festival moves to Pier 1 in Montego Bay, St. James, for '45 Cures', a selector spin-off which will pit radio disc jockeys against sound systems and selectors. Among those who will play are Danger Zone, ZJ Liquid, Black Chiney, DJ Wayne, Little Richie, DJ Sunshine, Sky Juice, DJ Sparks, Stone Love, ZJ Nikki Z, Fire Links and ZJ Chrome.

Guest speaker Leachim Semaj, using examples from the books of James, John and Matthew in the Bible, noted that "talent is neutral". He said that while the talent that you have is God's gift to you, what you do with that talent is your gift to God."

President of the Jamaica Federation of Musicians (JFM) Desi Young said: "On behalf of the JFM, this is an endorsement of talent that has impressed, but the circumstances led to some absence. The fraternity is united in its support for this artiste (Jah Cure) going forward, showcasing this talent that the world has come to gravitate to."

Allan Green of the Western Society for the Upliftment of Children, which along with the Alpha Boys School will benefit from 'Curefest' gave thanks for the "timely donation".

OMGoodness!!! I'm so jealous!! I WANT TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! crying.gif crying.gif That's right in Ken's backyard!! JALOVE will be down there then...I wonder if she'll go! That sounds like an AMAZING concert!!! Thanks for sharing JG...I'm calling Ken right now to tell him! (That's another $10 on October's phone bill no0pb.gif -whatcha gonna do?) This is BIG news!! And for whoever else I missed sorry, had too many pages to read! lol

Thanks for the well wishes on my upcoming wedding, we have been so busy trying to plan it as well as finding someone to braid Marlon's hair inexpensively! We got our wedding license yesterday. Now we are waiting for the Bishop my friend contacted to get back to us. We are hoping for October 13.

Marlon is adjusting very well, no issues at all. He eats about everything without a complaint, he just tells me if it is something he doesn't prefer. He has met most of my closest friends and my sister and niece, so far all is well! Marlon is the quiet type surrounded by noisy and crazy people but he takes it well! lol

I can bet how excited you are. Enjoy the planning and I pray you have a wonderful day. Don't let it stress you out too much, it's the marriage that counts good.gif

Just want to say thanks to all the vj members. You all have been an inspiration in helping me achieving an approval the on 09/11/07. please see the complete review below.
We arrived about 6:00am and started waiting in line. We were called in about 7:00 am went in after clearing security. We went to windo 12A dropped of papers tax return, no Impediment, Ds230 Part II, Ds156, Ds 156k, DS157, I 134 with job letter and pay stubbs along with bank statements. My income was a little below for 2006 I was able to use savings and 401k to supplement income. We were then call to windo 16A for finger prints. Was told to wait for name to be called. About 8:35 was called to Windo #22A. We handed in the bank statement since they were not asked for at the first window. Was told to go sit far away while they interview my fiance'. He was asked where we met, the name and age of my kids, How often we talk on the phone, How often I visited, We filed for me to go to America and Why was I divorced from my first husband. My fiance' stumbled on the divorce details and I was called to window #22A to be interviewed alone. Was asked the same questions but Officer was concern that we did not discussed my previous divorce in details. I have been divorced for over 14 years and had several relationships after so did not know that I should tell my fiance' all the dirty details. My fiance' told me that his heart was racing like a car engine. He was called back to window and was asked to give in his passport. She then stated fill out pink paper and we were told to go to airpak accross the street We hugged and kissed and was walking on cloud nine. Wedding date is planned for October 17, 2007. Hoping visa is received in two weeks.

OMG! Congrats! I wish your honey safe travels! kicking.gif

Would she have a problem getting back into the country with her current K-1 visa? Her visa is dated to expire the end of November.

Unfortunately the K1 Visa is not a "travel" visa -- it's a 'one time entry' into the U.S. You could always try to get an "Emergency AP" but like Kelly said, I have heard some horror stories (here on VJ) about what happens when people try to re-enter.

Your best bet would be to get the actual AP or wait for the Green Card.

When are you planning to file the AOS 'bundle?' And have you checked to see how long the processing times are -- I know Kelly filed at the end of July and her check is not even cashed yet......

Donna and I are discussing this now. I believe we first have to marry before the AOS is filed. We are looking at a late October wedding date. The AOS would be mail soon afterwards. I mentioned to her that some people go to the courthouse and get married after arriving. Later they have a reception for family and friends. This would allow us to get the AOS in sooner. As women how do you feel about having your first marriage at the courthouse? I wonder if she would later feel cheated or bad about doing this. Is it worth saving this time by having a courthouse marriage? I would like a women's perspective on this.

I don't see anything wrong with a courthouse wedding as that will be what Marlon and I do. When you are getting married the important thing is to be married not how you were married. I would love a big wedding but if all goes well, in a few years we can save up for one and just renew our vows. I do plan on some kind of food/reception venue, perhaps a potluck?

Nyseness, everything irie! biggrin.gif Thanks for the PM!

I don't agree with this at all no0pb.gif Their K-1 Visa is only good for 90 days - once that expires, they are out of status. You are technically supposed to file for AOS BEFORE the 90 days is up. That's why they say to file immediately after you get married. I know some people have waited, but I don't recommend it.

This is what it says under FAQ for Adjustment of status:

6.1)...How soon after we get married should we apply for Adjustment of Status?

A..Right away, or at least right after your honeymoon. You should make every effort to get the Adjustment application filed within 90 days of the fiance(e) entering the United States, which is when the K-1 status expires, as indicated on the I-94.

Filing for Adjustment of Status within the 90 days protects your legal status. Your legal status as a K1 expires after 90 days, married or not. The only way to protect your legal status is to apply for Adjustment of Status, and the only way to maintain continuous legal status is to file for AOS before the K1 visa expires. On the practical side, it is often difficult to arrange for the marriage, and get all the paperwork ready in time to file for AOS within 90 days. Many newsgroup couples have filed for AOS a few days or weeks after the 90 day limit with no problems. Thus far, newsgroup experience has shown this is not a major issue with local USCIS (INS) offices.

There is absolutely no "technical" part to filing AOS and there's is absolutely no mention of a filing date before then. It is "recommended". TRUST ME, I have done research upon research on this. There are maaaaaany couples from all sorts of countries that have waited well over the "90 day period" and never had problems. Now, for us....OH I'm quite sure we'll have issues, just because that's "my luck" and nothing is ever ever an easy road for me.

You file for AOS so that the SO can be legally working, driving, etc etc.

Kelly

Shauna, it just depends on your situation. Yes there is nothing written in stone, BUT I also agree w/Rhonda filing the AOS w/in the first 90 days is in best interest. God forbids something happens in JA and he needs to leave ASAP b/c he was "out of status" he could cost him problems to come back EVEN though he may have a AP on file. I say to do it ASAP so he can work and travel (if needed). If your having money issues now having him here adding more expenses and not being able to contribute will only make the finances and the adjustment period even harder to bear. Just my opinion.

All great advice but of course I will have him here. It doesn't matter when he can work and contribute as I have a roommate and between the both of us we have expenses covered. His quality of life will be much better here as to why we decided for him to come here.

Congrats to those with upcoming interviews!!!! kicking.gif good.gif

Here's a question for the Yardie vets:

Have any of your fiance's been out of status before filing for AOS? If yes, for how long and were there ANY problems?

Are you thinking money issues, Sarah?

You have a year to file for AOS. The only problem I can think of would be EAD as I'm guessing you will think Marlon needs to work. I don't have the answer on the EAD cause we filed with our AOS. I'm sure someone on here will.

BTW.....got your call over the weekend and yes, I was working. I'm going to call you one night this week to wish you luck on Friday. I'm sure you are just splitting with happiness. I'm excited for you.

Sarah, I'm thinking you should talk to kelly (luvT). I think they just filed for Craig after almost a year (?) I could be wrong, though.

Yes, it is mainly financial worries but if we have time then I certainly feel better!

That's the problem....each State has different rules. We were able to get Roy his SS card right when he got here -- then we were able to get his State ID and he took the test for the drivers permit. I am too scared to let him drive so I don't know when he will get his license. He just said to me last night that he hasn't driven in a long time -- then I told him what happened to Damien and said he will NEVER be driving   He didn't think it was funny.....

Andre drove maybe 3 times in Jamaica. When he got here, I nearly had heart failure every time he drove. We payed for one 2 hour lesson with a professional. Otherwise, I have taken him on non-busy streets during slow times. Every once in a while I will take him on a busy street (after making the sign of the cross!) We are going to practice some more parallel parking tonight, tomorrow, and Thursday and see how it goes on friday. I don't think he is ready yet; but maybe he will just prove me wrong.

You guys have me rolling here! I too am worried about when Marlon gets here and actually drives! he offered to let me drive while I was in Jamaica but we didn't get around to it, thankfully!

OMG...........never eating manish water again.........NEVER EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

SAME HERE!

OK...here's a little tip from a born Jamaican. ALWAYS ask what's in the soup or, if you've already taken a few sips, DON'T ask what's in the soup. I grew up in the city (Kingston) and took my first trip to the 'country ' when I was about 9 years old. The family welcomed us with open arms and a kerosene pan (ask your spouses about this) on an open wood fire in the front yard bubbling with soup. I have to admit it smelled delicious...and I was presented with a steaming hot bowl. I had to take my time and skim from the top because it was so hot. When I finally got down to the meat of the matter...there was a completely intact jawbone staring back at me..complete with molars, premolars and inscisors embedded in the blackest gums I had ever seen. I think the goat was suffering from gingivitis. I dropped the entire bowl and all but puked.

The other usual culprits for turning any non-jamaican off our cuisine are:

Chicken foot soup...also curried chicken foot

Cow foot..sometimes the skin of the cow (not the hide) is added to this dish.

Cow cod soup (which is the ####### and ####### and, incidentally, come from the bull - not the cow)

My girlfriend's mom used to deep fry chicken heads for her ..beaks, eyes and all. I kid you not.

Tripe..as in intestines..with broad beans.

Cow head...as in the brains...with broad beans

Light...which is the heart of the cow

Cow tongue...I hear it is delicious when smoked

The USA has a nasty habit of deporting turkey necks to our shores...so we cook those up with broad beans too.

Some people buy fish heads only because the rest of the fish can be too expensive for their meagre budgets.

One thing I must say about my people...no matter what it is...they season up their meats and marinate them to perfection and when cooked and served with some good rice and peas or yam, green bananas and cornmeal dumpling... if you close your eyes and forget where the meat came from...you are in for a culinary masterpiece.

My 3 cents!

Mars.

Girl you making me hungry!! I used to eat tripe and beans often but can't find anyone to cook it like JA. I don't know how to so my mom cook it for me. I also love cow foot w/ butter beans and my grandma used to make the best chicken foot soup!!!!

YUCK! Marlon's mom almost made us chicken foot soup but when I told her I was not gonna eat it, she just made chicken and yam soup.

Good morning VJ family.

One of my worst nightmares happened this morning --Damien was in a car accident on his way to work. I have no idea how this man walked away without an injury. The car flipped over three times and landed on the driver's side...he had to break the window to get out. The car is totalled...I couldn't tell which end was which. Thank God he was wearing a seat belt or he would be flown from the car in the middle of a 4 lane highway. No other cars were involved...another car cut him off so he lost control trying to avoid hitting a tracker trailor. God is good. Damien still went to work and was worried about being late

Thank God he is okay! (F)

To those of you with recent additions to the family, congrats on the babies!!!!! I so need to catch up!

Happy birthday tomorrow Nannygirl!

Good luck to those of you who have interviews as well!

When I get back I hope to hear lots of good things happening to you all!

I can't believe I leave tonight!

But at least I think I covered everything in my packing, I am going to take my BC for Marlon rather than mailing it as well as the letters I copied. The rest of the paperwork he will need I will compile when I return. I can't wait to see him, it's hard to believe that it has been almost 6 months since I have seen him! This is also my time to grieve the loss of mom and share my pain with my love. I have to say that I have too much joy in my heart to be overshadowed by too much sadness, he and I will be together here in Arizona sometime this year! Can't say I will miss academia during the time I am gone! lol

I will check in from time to time today at work however I keep getting the server load is too high to check for new posts!

Marlon's son will not be accompanying Marlon, he lives in England. Here's a question though, on one of the forms it says his son's birth certificate must be attached. Must I do this even if he's not coming?

Sonshyne: I hope your Aunt gets better and regains her strenghth! (F)

Ok, now I need to do laundry and pack, I am leaving tomorrow!

I'll still be online today and tomorrow!

Thanks to all of you wonderful people I feel better about this whole visa process! Perhaps when I return it will be to a NOA2!

DRATS! I made a little over $16,500 in 2006 but in 2003, 2004, and 2005 I made more than $17, 120. So I guess I will need a co-sponser after all :( Man I really wanted to do this all myself and not have to ask anyone such a big thing! Thankfully I have some good friends who are willing to help me out!

Hey thanks for posting this!
Am I reading this right?
My income for 2007 would have to be 13,690?

*fingers crossed*

Noooo...would have to be 17,120
