I emailed Kingston and asked if there is any way that Marlon can come and pick up packet 4 as he will need it for his medical on the 17. They said there is no possible way as the next date he could do that was July 31st!!! :help: What the heck are we supposed to do now? I emailed Marlon a copy of the email from them stating the date and time of his interview, will that suffice for his medical?!?!??!?!!?

He should just show up at the embassy. That's what my fiance did on monday. He made sure he had the NVC case number (KNG#####). He explained to them the situation and they told him to come back the next day. He has not received packet 3 as of yet. Thanks to VJ and your help, I knew to send the DS 230 by courier.

They made an appointment for him to come back on Tuesday. He was able to pick up everything then.

Thanks, I will let Marlon know to do that. I did send an email to them stating that he NEEDS that interview letter for the medical & the interview. We'll see what they have to say to that!

Thanks to everyone for the words of advice and encouragement!
I could just about strangle Marlon right now, I got a text this morning full of excitement at my coming and how I can't back out now! Are all Jamaican men like that? One minute cautious and suspicious and the next carefree and excited? :help: lol So needless to say I am teeter-tottering on going or not. My roommate gave me a good pep talk and offered to help me financially to be able to go...

*sigh*

I personally think you should go because this is the ending to a new beginning and you want to be there to share the excitement. My fiance' is tripping about going by himself to pick up his packet. He says he definetely wants me at the interview. Marlon wants you ther too they just have a strange way of communicating when they are under stress.

Among my family, friends, and Yardie family the sentiment is that I should go. I called Marlon this morning and he explained to me his initial reaction was due to stress and the fact that neither of us have any money. I am doing my best, I just need to find a buddy pass and I have a couple of people to contact to achieve that. Thanks so much to you and everyone who have given me advice on the matter, it means ALOT!

Although I really want to go I won't merely because honestly I cannot afford it nor to take time off. I am already on the verge of having my car repossessed (long story) suffice to say I got screwed on my vehicle and I have tried to no avail to either re-finance or trade it in. Not having a car will not affect me personally as I live close to work and everything but it will screw my credit. To top everything off I found out today that I am borderline diabetic and it is reccommended that I take Metformin. I hate mondays...

I had a crazy idea to attend the interview with Marlon. My boss approved the time off and there is a slight possiblity that I could get a buddy pass from a friend. I called Marlon with the idea and he said that it was up to me. He asked me why and I stated that there was a couple recently where it was requested that the USC be present at the interview. He seemed keen on the idea BUT he did mention that he is still trying to come up with the money for the Non-Impediment form and cost of the medical. I have to admit that I am a bit disappointed that he wasn't excited at the prospect of seeing me but he told me not too worry that he could swing the interview on his own. I am just sad and missing him... :help:

Marlon just sent me a text message and stated that he knows that we both have confidence in his ability to handle the interview and if I want to be there I can, he just doesn't want me to go into debt because of him. Okay, I feel better now! Seriously, I can't wait until he is here!

Hey, just wondering....does anyone know if mail is moving again in Jamaica? I know the electricity had been out due to the storm last week and things are slowly coming around. Of course I sent forms etc. to my fiancé right before the storm and I'm not sure if he should expect them soon.

Hope your loved ones down there are o.k. too!

I just talked to my fiancé on Friday and he is in Clarendon. There is still no electricity there but cell signal was restored on Friday. From what I understand major businesses were restored to power and some residences but not all. As far as I know DHL and AirPak are operating. Join the Yardie thread under forums, regional, and Caribbean. We'd love to have you! Welcome to VJ and may your loved ones in Jamaica be safe!

Howdy!
Thanks for the invite! I am very glad to know that there are more people who have experienced either a K1 or K3 visa with a Jamaican significant other! I am American and I live in Arizona. My sweetheart lives in Jamaica. We are at the starting point and trying to decide which visa would better suit us in regards to the amount of time it would take to bring him here to the States. Originally we had discussed the K1 visa however speaking lately, he voiced his wish for us to marry in December. I am open to either visa avenue I am just a little overwhelmed with it all! I work 2 jobs and attend university part-time so my days are long and a little hectic. I guess I am here hoping to gain some insight as well as a support group. So thanks again for the invite and I look forward to meeting you all!

question: Who else met their Jamaican significant other online and how long was the initial courtship phase before engagement and/or marriage?

Thanks!
Sarah

Inna mi pants

A Jamaican guy enters a resturant and while sitting at his table he notices a gorgeous woman sitting at another table alone. he calls the waiter over and asks for a bottle of the most expensive champagne to be sent over to her knowing that if she accepts it she will be his.

The waiter gets the bottle and quickly takes it over to the young lady, saying that its from the gentleman. she looks at the champagne and decides to send a note back to the jamaican, the note reads...

"For me to accept this bottle you need to have a mercedes in your garage, a million in the bank and 9 inches in your trousers."

After Reading this note the Jamaican sends back a note of his own, it reads...

"Jus su yuh know...me av a bran new Benz an a bran new Bimma park up inna mi yard, an mi av over 10 million inna de bank but nuhbaddy an mi mean NUHBADDY nah gon mek mi cut 3 inch off a wah mi av inna mi pants...suh yuh can jus sen back di champagne!"

Not everyone. Written Patois gives me a headache. Can't bother with it.

I know thats right. I was too far behind to catch up so I left it alone.

I respect that as well. I truly do. (What I am about to say is not directed at you Shonnie, but I'm going to say my peace.)

However, being rude is not necessary. I responded the way I did because the rudeness upset me. It upset some other people here too. If you look at this thread, I didn't come here ONE time and ask ANYBODY to come and read it either. The success of my post doesn't require everyone to approve or like it. Jomo tries to be cute, and then keeps telling me that she was not trying to come off rude and if I took her comments that way she is sorry. I have never taken her comments any way until she kept telling me not to.

I started the post saying it was a purely fictional story and my first attempt at writing a story. She comes in shortly after talking about it was believable until I got to the nice customs agent. There was no patois in the story at that point. I shrugged the comment off, although I got several PMs about why she was being rude. Again, she and everyone else is entitled to their opinion. Mi nuh beg nuh friend.

There are enough people reading and posting in the thread that are not with JAMAICANS, and they are even mouthing the words to follow the story. If you don't like it, no problem. Feel free to stay away like you have thus far. good.gif The post will die a slow death and fizzle out in due time anyway.

What I don't get is some of the women claiming to be in love with their Jamaican husbands, but they hate his family, his friends, his mother, his country and everything that made him the man he is now. I have remained quiet about it...but some of oonu oomen nuh knoa yuhself! Yuh need fe tek wey yuhself and nuh place all de blame pon im when de marriage nuh work.

I think I will start a PATOIS ONLY thread too. Feel free to stay out of that one too...yuhseemi? devil.gif yes.gif laughing.gif wink.gif

Well, since Jawi wants to share so much with you all today, I'm in......

Perhaps those of you who view my comments as negative would be happier if he wasn't such a nice guy and we didn't have such a great relationship. I showed my husband what you said and he sucked teeth. He said some women are not happy and view a man like that if he isn't a playa, beating his wife, lying to her, and running around on her. I've had others saying that to me too. So, maybe they are right. I guess he can't be a real man until I am cowering in the corner as he runs out the door to find a baby mama.

He is a "man" in our relationship, just not "THE" Man. Such an antiquated sentiment. Neither of us controls the other nor the relationship and it works. If someone needs one or the other to control the relationship, then so be it. It's just not for us. We butt heads sometimes and we talk it through. Sometimes one of us wins, mostly we compromise.

If you knew his story, his family, and his friends, or seen what I have seen in his Jamaica, perhaps you would say the same things. I play off of what he thinks and feels and what I have personally experienced. Those who say they will support his family and friends know nothing about what they in for. Most of those people who say things don't even have their men here or he just got here and they are all in that honeymoon phase, so they have no clue how it is all going to play out. It's easy to say things when you haven't experienced them yet. As far as Jamaica goes, I love Jamaica. I think it is beautiful and I have fond memories of all over Jamaica. I miss many people there. I have been there 16 times, staying almost always in his yard or with other friends and family in their yard. It's not like I haven't seen things. I've seen beauty and peace and wonderfully fun times. I've also seen violence against men, against women, against defenseless children. I've see racism, sexism, and needless discrimination of Jamicans to other Jamaicans. I've seen sadness and I've seen poverty. I've seen people use other people out of desperation and I've seen it just for sport. I'm sorry if I don't see Jamaica as a paradise. I've seen too much to think that anymore.

It's really just a case of not being able to have an opinion that differs from others on here again. It's an old scratched record that just keeps playing over and over again. Anything even slightly negative and you get bashed all to hell. The thing is, I don't live in some fantasy world where someone else takes care of everything and I just follow along nor where everything is so perfect. I'm a strong proud woman who has opinions. I'll be damned if I will apologize for that. I'll fight for what I believe in till the day I die.

I'm not the only person who feels this way either. Others who believe along these same lines have stopped expressing opinions cause all they do is get bashed. It's a ridiculous concept that deluded people who live in this fantasy world of love, peace, and harmony at ALL times run away anyone else who has an opinion. I hope that when their worlds fall apart, they can find those others to reach out to in the same situation. I have a wonderful support group of friends who KNOW what happens in these LDR's sometimes.....knows ALL of what can happen, not just the lovey dovey stuff....who have experienced some or all of what I am going through, and who give thought provoking insight and advice.

Well said!

Okay, so Marlon has his SS card and we went to the DMV today to apply for an ID only. Well, they said they can only issue it based on the expiration date on his I94. I was like #######?!?! We HAD 90 days to get married and now he is NOT a K1 visa ANYMORE. They said they would issue the ID but it would expire 12/06/07 the same as his I94. I was livid!

SO we then went to my credit union to add him to my account and no problems! He will get his own debit card and for now my maiden name and his name will appear on the checks.

I did also call to inquire about the status of my marriage certificate and it was recorded on the 23rd and mailed out today, so I should get it in a couple of days.

Man it never ends! blink.gif

wow that is crazy....i had to fight them as well for a state id....and told her yes the 1-94 had expired but the visa was valid and her is the marriage certificate to prove it and then they gave it to him and it expires in 5 years...i think it really depands on where you are which sucks cause it should all be the same....

Oh man, I was fit to be tied!!!!!! My friend called the DMV and asked them what we need and was told that we only need his SS card, passport, his JA licence and bam there it is. We should get our marriage license by Friday, we'll try again! Thanks so much for sharing your experience!

Hey all ... new to the Board . . . was brought here on an expected "journey" today . . .

Learned that my boyfriend is also Nicky "Salmon's" current fiance'. She last saw him in March. I met him in April and have been back to see him 3 times. He and I have been planning our future together . . . and I'm thankful that I was smart enough to make him wait a year before I filed for a Visa, or I'd be in the same position Nicky is.

I've struggled all day . . . have talked to Nicky several times. He's telling her that we were just friends, LOL. I have photos, text messages, etc. I've shared it all with Nicky -- but she's in a quandary as to what she should do . . .

Give her love and support, folks. Her financial investment over this lying and cheating man is only gonna increase when she brings him and his son over here to Florida and she has to support them for a long time. I say cut your losses now, Girl!

Here's a picture of Corey and I taken in August when I was last there to see him and his family (yes -- they ALL know about me).

OMG! I am so sorry for you and for Nicky to find out!!!! Yikes! Welcome to the board, it's great to see you!

You are no longer worth the effort or my VALUABLE time to sit down and respond to your obilivious statements.

You've GOT to be kidding me!!!!

This forum was started for US to have a place to help each other -- not BASH each other every chance we get.

What is wrong with someone having an opinion? That's just fine if you don't agree with it but do we have to get so nasty?

I have been around (and been a party to) plenty of prejudice in my life. It is what it is. Yeah, it's a shame that in this day and age things like this still go on -- I am sorry for that. I really am. But I don't go around making it worse. Whatever......

Ya know Mindy.....I TOTALLY miss the good ole days when we used to laugh, joke, support, be caring, etc etc and not have ANY of this BS drama on here !!!!! Where the heck are all of our "veterans"????!!!

For real! I may not be an oldie but I have been here for a year now and this board sure has changed! I opt to only discuss issues pertinent to the imigration process but sometimes other stuff. As far as my personal views about politics and whatnot, I keep to myself. I really have enjoyed this board up until now but seeing how things are going I may stop. I really care about all of you and I hate to see attacks! Can't we all just get along?

Hey FutureMrs!

You don't really know me...because I was still catching up when you were preparing to leave. Anywooo...so how is FutureMr. adapting to his new environments? What things really shocked him? Did he oooo and aah at the tall buildings? How does he and your roommate get along? Yes, I am very nosey...but I know all of us are dying to hear some cute stories. yes.gif kicking.gif blush.gif

Hiya Jawi!
Marlon is adapting well to his new environment. He does not like the Arizona heat but thankfully it is starting to cool down! As JG told you, he previously had lived in the UK so no huge shockers. He's entertaining himself by watching lots of movies and surfing the web. He's eager to start work too. Cute stories, hmmmmm.... We were at my favorite Chinese resteraunt yesterday and he had just read his fortune cookie. He sat there with a questioning look and asked, "What does don't matter mean?" I looked at his fortune cookie and he was reading the opposite side! Sure gave me a good giggle! Other than that we are anxiously awaiting the big day!

Hey, guys. Please could we move on to something else? Everyone is pretty much stuck in their own opinions, with their own reasons, and it is what it is. It's all incredibly stressful and sad today.

I agree to disagree or agree with you, whatever the case may be.

Have a good weekend everyone. I'm out.

Oh LORD!!! Get over the veterans already!!!! It sounds quite insulting to those who are "newbies" on here! Like they are unwanted or something. I have seen you make this comment many times before, even when I was a newbie and all it made me do is not like the veterans. so that comment really gets the thread no where. Its gonna become a battle of the newbie verse the vet in a minute and of course the newbie will win, cause there are WAY more of them. The thread is what it is! It evolves just like everyting else in life! It has its ups and downs.

The problem on here is what I see on many other forums that have to do with Jamaica and the Americans who love it. People have a high-octane opinion, mixed with their love for a country but really have never walked a mile in the shoes of the people from the country. I think people who are not Black don't understand when things SEEM to always have a "racial" issue behind them because they only see the surface. They only see what the media presents to them.

I gotta say, there's a WHOLE underground, unspoken world that Black people from ALL OVER THE WORLD share. Only WE share it so other races and cultures don't get it. Blacks meet from the US, UK, Africa, Caribbean, and they all have someting in common. The way they have been treated throughout the history of this world. They all have heard horrible tear causing stories from their granparents, and even their own children. The all know whats its like to be a ethnic minority, even when they live in a country or continent where they are the majority. When we don't live in areas where there are many of us we gravitate to one another, giving each other an unspoken look, or head nod just to show, we acknowledge each others Blackness. When we are around each other we embrace our Blackness and our culture much more than we do when we are around others. WE wear our hair differently, we dress differently, we talk about differnet things. We have converstaions and speech patterns we would never share with other races no matter how down we think they are. When we do it fuels debates like the one on here cause others just don't understand.

I know this may be new for many to understand, even if you've been around Black people for years, dated Black men, had Black friends, listen to reggae, rap, soul and R&B. There are just somethings that you will never get. Either you can't physically experience them, like having someone call you a N----, have people tell you to cover your nappy hair, spit at you cause your Black, through hateful slurs at you, say your pretty for a Black girl, ask if you wash your hair, sit in an office of all whites, sit in a school of all whites, sit on a bus, at a movie, in the mall......its a different world from our eyes. Then there's just the stuff we as Black folks talk about in the privacy of or Black neighborhoods, some of that stuff will never come out to the public til the day we all die!!!!

SO when issues like JENA 6 come out well you're just getting a bit of a taste of what we talk about and how we talk on the DL.

HELLO!!!!!

Girl you hit the nail on the head! Thank you for your eloquent, well written, enlightful post. Oh but maybe my ideas or throughts aren't worthy because I am a "NEWBIE"!!!!! #######???? I think it is quite the opposite because you see we all have more experience .................(let it go......)

Thanks again....

I think the veterans comments were made as far as the spirit of the way previous discussions have occured and not necessarily what was said.

Well said J.G.!
