I had a crazy idea to attend the interview with Marlon. My boss approved the time off and there is a slight possiblity that I could get a buddy pass from a friend. I called Marlon with the idea and he said that it was up to me. He asked me why and I stated that there was a couple recently where it was requested that the USC be present at the interview. He seemed keen on the idea BUT he did mention that he is still trying to come up with the money for the Non-Impediment form and cost of the medical. I have to admit that I am a bit disappointed that he wasn't excited at the prospect of seeing me but he told me not too worry that he could swing the interview on his own. I am just sad and missing him... :help:

I talked to Marlon today and he got the shots he needed in May Pen for around $4000JA. There are a couple more shots he needs but he can do them when he gets to Arizona. He also scheduled his medical in Kingston for July 18. All he needs to do now is get the no impediment form and we are set! It's so nice to know that we are moving right along! I wish that I could go to his interview but I can't miss any work during that time. Now I just have to be patient...

I had emailed them a little excessively and they told me the date as well as to be patient and to wait for the postal mail! lol

oooh sarah i'm so glad you got your interview date! mine is several hours before yours. it would've been awesome if we were both there at the same time though. we talked about starting our visa journey at the same time and here we are having interviews on the same day. imagine that!

i can't believe the embassy is giving different answers to the same question! i was very specific in what i asked regarding the i-134 vs i-865 and was told to stick with what the packet asked for. hmph!

If it makes you feel better go ahead and do both but I am just going to stick with the I-134 as I have an email from them that Marlon can reference. I am so glad that Marlon and your honey are interviewing on the same day!!!! That means hopefully they will be here in our arms by the end of August! :luv:

i just got an email response from the embassy (and i'm quite shocked, lol)

i asked them about the i-864 since i had filled out the i-134 instead and their response is that i should follow the instructions on the checklist.

so now i'm going through the redundancy of filling out both forms just in case. what an inconvenience!

Did you fiance ever receive Packet 3?

he picked it up at the embassy on the 19th. it said that he needs the i-864, some 3/4 view passport photos, and $335 for the visa fee. this has been discussed here, and it's said that these items are not necessary for the k-1. but the embassy has advised us to follow the checklist.

He does NOT need the I-864 only the I-134, I have an email from the embassy stating that it is the I-134. Also, the visa fee is $100.00 payable in JA money and the courier fee in American money (someone please correct me if I am wrong.) The I-864 is for married people only hence why it is needed during AOS.

I have a question about the packet 3...

It includes the name of Marlon's son on the welcome letter. Marlon is a little worried because we forgot to fill out questions 21a & b on the DS-230 part 1. His son will not be coming to the US until much later. What should we do? :help:

You should be fine. His name is probably listed on the welcome letter b/c he added to the I-129f form. Since he will not be traveling w/Marlon he was correct by not including it on the DS-230 forms.

Phew, thanks! JG also told me the same thing and I told Marlon to quit stressing! lol

We just got back from a business trip (mine) in Washington, D.C. If you saw any news clips of a Jamaican dancing in front of the White House last Thursday, that one was mine. He was so excited to see it.

We celebrated our first anniversary on Friday in D.C. Can't believe how fast the time has gone. For us, it is getting better and better each day.

As far as the job thing goes..........it's the luck of the draw. Andre applied for many jobs he was overly qualified for and after very promising interviews, never heard another word from them. His current job is working out well and he's moving up the ladder quickly. So, you just never know. Hang in there.

Happy Anniversary Jomo and Andre

Must have missed that! Happy belated 1st anniversary to Kelly and Andre!!!! (F)

So....I just used my Buy One Get One voucher from Spiritair to purchase my ticket to go to for the interview. Now..I'll request the days off...(backwards I know).

That's cool! All set then? I may go to Marlon's interview if it is in September but I am still hoping and praying that he will have an interview next month!

Honestly August or September will work for me but as 12/11/2006 says, everything happens for a reason so we must hang in there! I will keep everyone posted!

I was just given our interview date today by the embassy. It is set for August 14th. I'm so happy to get this. It's been about 6 months now. Just 6 more weeks to go!

Congrats!
How did you get the interview date?
Marlon scanned his packet 3 and emailed it to me today.
The move went well and I started my Stats class today, the teacher is fun and motivated!

Pam: Thanks for the tip! Does the courier fee also have to be in JA dollars?

Ebony: Congrats girl!

How long does it usually take for the embassy to respond to an email?

For me usually 1 or 2 days?

Marlon is a neat freak! lol He is constantly walking around behind me and cleaning up. He even makes the bed every day! It will be a fun adjustment when he gets here! lol Luckily my roommate Noah helps me out cleaning, laundry, and trash, or else it would never be done! But I am getting better!

Phew thanks so much to everyone! I was so freaking out as was Marlon! lol Ok I can breathe now! lol Marlon texted me today and let me know that we made a boo-boo on DS-230 part 1, we did not fill out 21a and b! Do you think that will affect us? Hope not as the embassy is currently sitting on our paperwork! Of course I will keep everyone informed as to when his interview date is. I need to email the embassy today regarding my change of address, I will inquire about an appointment. I am so thankful for all of you!

As far as I understand it there should only be a $100.00US fee for the Visa as well as the $550JA for the courier? Let's hope so anyways!

Where's Sonshyne & JG on this one?!?! Or anyone else who recently did a K1?

Marlon texted me to let me know that he finally received his police certificate from the UK as well as Packet 3. It says the Visa fee is $335.00 US?!?!?! :help:

why so much? What happened to the 100US dollar fee?

That's why I am trying to get some clarification from the people who recently went through it!
Also, the packet asks for an I-864 but I had emailed the embassy and the reply was I only need the I-134? :help:

Hey everybody,

I do text Marlon and he texts me at least a couple times a week. Yeah I would love to talk to him more but I work 2 jobs! Plus I never call/text him when I am down, it would do no good and he's feel guilty that he can't do anything about it! I won't be on much now because I am moving next weekend and then my class starts on the 2nd. As soon as everything calms down I will pop in!

Congrats to Pam!

Thank you everyone for the tips and advice! Marlon did try to get a megaphone but it does not work in Clarendon. When he does call me he goes to his mom's and uses his sister's megaphone in Kingston. I don't call him often, maybe once a week but with a hopeful interview coming up I will need to talk to him more.

Yeah but the only option available to talk with him! At least now I can call him more often and for less!

To beat out all of those phone prices, We use the Cable and Wireless phones that have cheap calling rates for overseas. He purchased the phone and purchases a phone card every month that gives him something like 30 hours talk time  per month. I have saved so much money from not having to buy phone cards and use my T-mobile minutes.. I don't know what to do. I just have to ring him twice and hang up and he knows to call me right back. Best thing ever

Marlon is in Clarendon and it's more expensive for him to have a landline not too mention that he can barely afford credits for his phone.

Is there something in the air in Jamaica? Marlon was in Kingston on Tuesday getting money together for the no impediment form when his car was towed! He had to pay $3300JA to get it back and almost had to pay more because it was getting too late!

I just ordered phone service through Cox and now I pay 45 cents per minute rather than $1.09 a minute with T-Mobile and I get the phone service free for 6 months!

*sigh*

sounds like several of our fellas had a bad day in kingston.

dang girl t-mobile is high! are they charging you a monthly access fee in order to get that rate? the wal-mart phone cards are 50 cents a minute.

i've been racking up horrendous phone bills ever since i stopped using my prepaid phonecard service. i pay 38 cents/min and a 4 dollar monthly fee. i was going to look at ringyard but now fiance has mega fone (even thought it ain't working right now).

Nah, T-Mobile is just a flat dial and for Cox it is only 99 cents per month and the 45 cent rate. I like the fact that I can talk as much as I like and pay later. *shrug*

I just sent an email to kkholiday2006. My emails are written is such a manner as to come across as professional sounding. I start them out Dear Sir or Madam, I am inquiring as to... At the end of my email I say something like thank you for your prompt attention to this matter, sincerely... Maybe that helps? And this is the email address I use

They always respond to all of my emails.

Here's a question for my fellow yardies:

Are there 2 police records in Jamaica, one for local and one for overseas? Marlon said that he will need to get the overseas one again as it is only valid for 6 months but the local one is good for 1 year?

His mom may have his immunization record so he may not need shots!

Yes he will need the overseas one two he is correct. He probably will get one shot then and then need the follow up shot when he gets here. Dwain needs some follow up shot sometime. He missed his follow up shot in JA forgot about the date. He said you could do the follow up shot in JA or the USA.

Thanks! Do you know which shots they were?

Likkle problem....

we got approved with a blue paper requesting that i come to the embassy to answer some questions. what the heck is that all about? my man got through the first window fine...all paperwork was in order; second window fine; and third window when they asked him questions they asked if i was there and he said no and gave him the blue paper saying he was approved when i came back to answer some questions and we can come any tuesday or thursday without an appointment. i never heard of this one...something about this does not sound right to me. i need to think on this one for a bit. any thoughts?

What exactly does it say on the 221g? We got a 221g and what they told Andre was different than what they actually marked on the paper. It is very important to know exactly what they marked down. Any idea?

the 221g says

request for more proof of relationship
fiance presence recommended

If it is only recommended then it is NOT required, right? Give the embassy a call!
