US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHas anyone postponed an interview?

Thank you for your responses - I am unsure of what to do at this moent - My David is getting cold feet and decided to break off the relationship on saturday - I am hoping he will come to his sences but I dont know what to do - all I can do is give him time - which isnt good as my medical is 25th september and visa interview 12 october - I gues I wil have to cancel my medical and try and reschedule it later. But as far as I know if we dont attend the interview then thats it process over:(

I am devastated

Oh no, I'm so sorry :( I think you should go ahead with the medical ...I mean even if you get the visa you still have 6 months to decide...

Well, look at the bright side, at least they keep you somewhat informed and their website is VERY helpful. Since most latin american countries seem to have similar requirements, my fiance and I used their website to get an idea of what packet 3 might look like since Argentina's website is basically useless. I understand how it can be frustrating though. Hope everything works out for you!

Nothing is cheap here, specially medical care.
Everytime I go to my doctor's office, no matter the reason (for example: pick up x-ray results), I have to pay $20 AND I have medical insurance through my job. My parents only pay $5, but they also pay over $600 a month for insurance.

I love the US, don't get me wrong. I'm very thankful that I had the opportunity to be raised in this country. But I just honestly do not understand what the big deal is about living here. I don't understand why some would go to such great lenghts in order to live here. How can someone be so selfish? Economic stability, maybe?
I am an immigrant myself, and while I am thankful for all the opportunities I've been giving, I also worked damn hard to be where I'm at. I went to college almost for free for example, but the scholarship wasn't exactly just handed to me. I worked really hard to earn it.

I think some people think that all their problems will be magically solved by living in the US. I don't think they realize that absolutely nothing is easy. Money doesn't exactly fall from a tree. Even foodstamps or welfare don't come easy, you first have to apply and qualify.

So, honestly, is it worth it?

I don't think we have anything to worry about, I just wanted to make sure they didn't surprise him with some random requirement at his interview or tried to be a$$es.

We received our packet for Paraguay, he went to pick it up at the embassy and they spent a bit of time going over everything he'll need and proof of being single never came up. everything was pretty straight forward, she asked him if he was ever married he said no and she said ok good then you wont need this certificate or that certificate. all in all he just needed his medical (which he had yesterday), pay the fee, fill out like 2 forms and that's it.

What about a certified copy of his birth certificate? Did they ask him for that?

I don't know if anyon'e seen Bruce Almighty, when he meets God and a long filing cabinet drawer opens with thousands of records...that's pretty much how they keep track of things in Paraguay.

I don't know about Paraguay but in Colombia they ask you to get a Certificado de Solteria which is a Certificate that states that you are single.

Interesting, I wonder if they have such a thing in either Argentina or Paraguay. Thanks for the info!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionProving Marital Status

I don't think they'll ask for it. There's not a way to prove one's single. There's not like, a certificate that you get for that.

Don't worry. You only have to prove marital status in case you're divorced or a widower/widow.

I know, I know, but isn't it easy to just lie and say you're single when you're really not?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionProving Marital Status
I might be worrying too much, but I just want to make sure everything goes smoothly when he goes for his interview.
So, I'm wondering, my fiance has never been married before, but how can he prove that he's single? I know you can prove you're married because you have your mariage license/certificate. But if you're single? Will they go by what his passport says?

My fiance is actually a Paraguayan citizen with Argentine residency, so his papers are all from Paraguay. Almost nothing is computarized in most third world countries such as Paraguay, so you can lie about anything and everything such as marital status. I love Paraguay, but trying to do something legally is almost imposible!

Ok, to make this short, how can he prove that he's single? Do they just go with their gut instincts and trust what the passport says? I'm afraid they'll say someting like "yeah, you're single? Can you prove it?"

It really fluctuates. I applied with my sister, and it only took her 6-7 months, while it took me over a year, that was in 2002. My dad applied in March of this year, and it only took him 2 months. Crazy!
