Middle East and North AfricaA few cultural questions

We found the bidet at the Mediterranean halal grocery store. It cost about $35.00 and my husband hooked it up to the toilet. The water is a little cold for me so next time we'll try to invest in one with the thermostat for temp control.

We have always had a watering can available, but I like the idea of one that has flowing water.

I was wondering about the temperature ecspecially this time of year.

Middle East and North AfricaA few cultural questions
Overall Iranian people are very family oriented, and extremely hospitable people. The middle eastern culture is really not easy to breakdown. There is alot involved depending on the individual, family, beliefs, exposure, and the region the person comes from.

I have read and heard so many different experiences over the years.

Some interesting sites...
http://www.farsinet....amu/issues.html
http://www.iranian.c.../Man/index.html

I can tell you my experience being married to a man from Isfahan for nearly 30 years. My husband is intelligent, loving, attentive, and an extremely thoughtful man; he has an amazing sense of humor, he's a wonderful partner, a fantastic father, a great provider, and can a bit stubborn at times. We have a daughter who married a wonderful American man, and they have given us two bright and beautiful granddaughters. We also have a son who is in the process of getting his lovely fiancee here from Iran, thus the reason I am here. My husband is still to this day the most amazing man I have ever met. I feel I have been truly blessed in life.

PS. You can start looking for some middle eastern grocery stores in your area because he will appreciate them when he gets here.

Good luck to you both!!!

After reading this post I called my cable company and they do have an international plan a lot cheaper than the calling card I was using. I got rid of my movie channel and will pay for the international calls instead. Through Comcast I will get 300 minutes for $14.95 per month to call 100 Countries. I didn't realize I could already call Canada and PR for free. Also I can request phone logs with the number I called and the minutes.

Thank you guys for all your help because it is so important when you get to the Embassy stage to have proof of ongoing relationship.

How can you make calls through comcast?? I have comcast but know nothing about it. And you can call the middle east??

Comcast offers telephone service as well as television service. However, I'm not sure about where all you can call with it.

My son has the same issue no proof because he uses http://www.phonecardsmile.com/. I told him to print out the phone number and the pin numbers as he goes, and I emailed his fiancee and told her to keep her phone records that show his calls as well as her calls to him.

NVC has a twenty four hour automated system that you can call and enter your case number.

http://www.visajourn...omated_Messages

Maybe you can try it today and call them live agian in the morning.

K-1s are generally not entered into the automated system, so this is probably a non-starter.

Middle East and North AfricaHow did we all meet our loved one??
QUOTE (tany1157 @ Sep 7 2009, 03:00 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Was just curious how we all met our foreign loves....I met mine online. Even though this seems common today, I don't love to tell everyone I met someone online...does anyone else have these same feelings? My family has no issues with it, what do you all think? Are we crazy for falling in love with people that are so far away? LOL I would never date someone outside a 50 mile radius of me...but when Ouadia and I met through a dating web site, he was so nice and day after day, we would talk, never missing a day, and one thing led to another, and before I knew it, I was in morocco staying with him and his family for a month. I still can't believe I am having a relationship like this, he isn't perfect, but he is the man I have been looking for, and he feels the same. It is very difficult at times of course, but I know that what is waiting at the end of this journey is worth it! Just wanted to hear other stories, and connect! biggrin.gif

I met my SO in September of 2007, through a matrimonial site even though I was only half-heartedly looking. I was pretty apprehensive with him as he was in Saudi Arabia and I'm in Tennessee, there was just way to many miles to build a great relationship, at least thats what I told myself. I was pretty closed off and kind of treated him with polite disinterest. I told him we could be friends and from time to time we could touch basis. Anyways, he didn't lose heart and began sending me music and inviting to listen to music with him through yahoo voice chat. Pretty soon, I was talking to him every day if only just to discuss new music and other things that piqued my interest. He called me on my birthday and I thought that was a very sweet thing to do and pretty soon, he was calling me on a daily basis. Even though he resides and work in Saudi Arabia, his nationality is Bangladeshi and he was telling me I should come over to his country. In November, he asked me to consider him as my SO and I was still hesitant, but he was pretty persuasive and by January, I was hooked. I didn't get to Bangladesh in 2008, we met in Dubai in July of 2008 and he formally proposed to me and I finally met his family in June of this year. I went to Bangladesh and we also went to see the Taj Mahal in India and saw the Himalayans in Nepal. It was awesome.

Beth, this doesn't sound good at all. He should not be bitching about the visa and throwing it in your face like that. He should understand that your hands are just as tied as his. From what you say he's way too into the visa. I don't know him so I could be wrong but I don't think I am. I have my own opinion about financially supporting an adult but I'll save that. I will say that you chose to send him the money and treat him like a child instead of a husband, why does it surprise you that he's now behaving like a child?

Its just the way I'em, maybe naive, but thinking he is going without , well, thats the way Iem too big hearted said by all, and Im sorry.
I just want to finish the day, and Ive deceided Im going to do something I have not in months and months, Im going out with the neighbors, its the 1st Friday of the month, and we all use to go eat Mexican foods and have margaritas, tonight Im joining them. I even gave that up for him, he did not approve of my drinking, even with my neighbors whom I know for years, longer then him. Tomorrow is another day, all this visa ####### will still be there.

Having dinner with friends (sans the drinking) is nothing that should be given up for someone else. Putting aside alcohol/tobacco issues (which a spouse could argue is physically unhealthy), why give up healthy, fun, stress-reducing socialization with friends if that's what it is?

He does not drink, so he thinks I should not drink, and for my neighbors and going out, he thinks it gave a wrong immpression, 2 are male, single, but for pete sake, these 5 sets of neighbors, I've known for over 10 years, they've looked after me when my parents died, , we watch out for each other, its a tight knit neighbor hood, after hurricane Ike, we all took care of each other, cooked outside, got supplies, you have to know, we did not have electric or water for over 2 weeks, hooked up genertors , shared generators, and myself ,bought 2 generators for neighbors, we cut trees down off each others houses, helped each clean their yard, loaned cars when 2 neighbors lost their cars due to fallen trees on them. Anyways, I cant do no more for the visa, or the way he feels now. Only he knows what he wants.

True and very true... Have fun tonight! This ####### will still be there as you've stated... good.gif good.gif good.gif

The unknowing right now is the hardest part for both parties. You're both trying to figure it out. I am sorry to hear he turned on you like that today. It sounds like he is feeling a loss and is in denial right now. I don't know if you've read about this in threads before but people from that region have this blame it on others and not take responsibility for themselves mindset from time to time. I've seen it over and over. It's never fun when they do it on you and especially when you don't deserve it. The truth is neither of you are to blame for the Embassy's actions and he can't really put it on you because they never said the reason why for the delay. The Embassy's prerogative is theirs and you both may direct all your flying arrows at it. My Husband tried it a couple of times with me but each time I never let him put it on me unless it was really me and we discussed this mena mindset and where it's going to get him. He soon realizes the truth afterwards and doesn't cling to that idea it's somebody else's fault like the person closest to him. He's never used profanity towards me either even when he's really upset. His way of dealing with it is to disappear and clam up for two weeks instead. I don't prefer either situation, the profanity you experienced from your Husband, or the clamming up I usually get from my Husband.

He has clammed up with me several times, not taking my phone calls, and he is so good of not letting me talk, I talk, and he talks louder and louder. But he truly thinks this hold up is my fault, that I did not tell him something, or Im hiding something.
then he threw at me, "You said we wouldnt not be in AP since our K3 was" so trying to explain to him that was the K3 and not the CR1 was useless, he got more irrate with me.
Im tired Olivia, so darn tired.
I begged him to try hard to extend his residency card, and he did not, MY FAULT.
He has not worked steadly in over 2 years, and I've helped him financially, Ive done all I could to make sure he was safe, feed, clothed , and a few dollars in his pocket, no matter how hard I would try and try, I felt like it was never enough.
But yet I love him still with all my heart, Im tired of the games with the heart, I just want a bit of peace in my heart and mind. Im 44 years old, Im too old for this Sh!t!!! I just want a normal life, and to have someone love and take care of me as I take care of them.

Beth,

I can empathize with your situation and this VISA process will make even the sanest person insane... I've flew over the top a couple times since my fiancee didn't have the documents he needed at his interview and now we're in a holding pattern and basically he told me Dee.. blaming me isn't going to get anything resolved but I can honestly say he has worked relentlessly to get everything done, calling over to Bangladesh several times a day to make sure everyone is doing as they say they would and by his own admission he told he wasn't taking nearly as seriously as he should have and now that he realize we may not be together because of this, he's gone over board to ensure it won't be a stopping point.. i"ve told him a couple of choice words and he's been distraught .. but now we're better because of it..

so like everyone else has advised... take some time alone .. don't call and try to talk to him... leave him be and get yourself together and address the situation with at least a clearer mindset on Monday and if he's still being a tool.. then just pray for guidance and what decision you ultimately make because you have to do what is best for Beth in the long run

I am sorry to read about your situation, but I strongly feel you shouldn't wait until Tuesday to talk to someone. You need to talk to someone today, don't wait. I can understand the feeling of overwhelming loss and keep lead your thoughts down a dark path. Please reach out to someone today, you can pm me or anyone if only just to give voice to your concerns and I know for a fact when you give voice to your thoughts and someone listening to you non-judgmental will go a long way then trying to deal with this burden completely alone.

Middle East and North Africatraveling to Saudi Arabia

Hi everyone,

My finace is Egyptian but currently working in Saudi Arabia. I know KSA has strict laws concerning women traveling alone, I'm curious if anyone has any information on this or if they have traveled to KSA without a male relative. I would like to join my finace for his interview but I'm not sure if I can get a visa to come or if I will have a difficult time while I am there since we are not married and I would be traveling alone.

Thanks all

You can't travel to the Kingdom unless your father, brother or husband petition for you to go and since this is only your fiancee in the kingdom then you aren't allowed to travel to kingdom. My fiancee works there as well and a single woman can't go to the kingdom without a male relative petitioning for her.

thanks,
Dee
