hiya
found this the other day and forgot to post it for you guys to look at..this only refers to the visa waiver program but as many of you who aren't here permantly as yet you still come here to visit...and also for those of us who have relatives and children who come to visit too..

New Entry Requirements to the USA

Effective from 12 January, 2009, the US Department of Homeland Security will introduce new immigration procedures for all passengers intending to enter the USA.

Under the new procedures, travellers wishing to visit the USA under the Visa Waiver Programme – which includes passport holders from Australia and New Zealand – will be required to “pre-register” their intention to enter America at least 72 hours prior to their scheduled departure.

This requires all intending travellers to apply online to the Department of Homeland Security for a travel authorisation, prior to boarding an aircraft or vessel to the USA.

Travellers who do not apply for and receive a formal travel authorisation ahead of their intended departure date will not be able to board a flight or ship to the USA.

This is not a regulation created by airlines. It is a requirement of the US Government, and unfortunately, where passengers do not have a travel authorisation, airline check in staff will not be able to resolve the problem. Nor will the airlines be liable for any costs or cancellation penalties or inconvenience where travellers do not have a travel authorisation, and are not permitted to travel.

To apply on line for a US Travel Authorisation, visit https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta. The application is free of charge and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It is valid for two years for holders of a valid passport.

Once a travel authorisation is sought and obtained, passengers must update their travel plans on line for subsequent visits to the USA, quoting their travel authorisation number.

hi goonlurka
your quite welcome also ..take a look at my post with the consulate website attached..regarding medical and police check

also you can get blood tests done at your local GP and charged to medicare...look up what you need to be tested for..get a copy of the results from your doctor signed and also keep your blood test receipts to take with you to your medical..

also take a look at the embassey information section on VJ ...it lists medical examiners and anything you might need to know also..

hiya kaffy...hope all is well ...

yes put every address since the age they require make sure you go as far back as they ask because they will only send it back to you for more information..if you haven't got anymore room continue them on another sheet..
also write near the question on DS-230 continued on seperate sheet .. something like that..

i had the same problem and i typed out the rest with the heading of what question number it was and the title of the question then numbered them..
then on a cover sheet let them know there is a continuation of that question number...

good luck and glad you found the thread..

cham i wouldnt worry about the age difference thing mate...i am 8 years younger than my hubby and it wasnt even questioned..and to both of you the interview part of this journey is the easiest part as long as you have everything in order that they want it and bring everything they ask for...

im still excited about this result and was smiling and crying all the way through obama's speach....shame you have to be a citzen to vote...i am use to having that right to vote ....
congrats to all the americans who voted either way...i must also add i thought mcains speach was very gracious and well said...

hiya all

firstly congrats on getting through your greencard interview sharyna way to go...

secondly....im home from my trip to england...surprised the heck out of my mum when i arrived..heaps of relo's said me going over made her holiday in england...

after 40 years of not being in england i didnt remember very much really...on of my sisters in laws came over and said i use to know you when you were a little girl do you remember lol...urrrrr NO lol...

i know england is my birthplace but i could never live there in my home town...it is too closed in for my liking...if they were to off me acreage then i would consider it..the countryside is absolutely beautiful...

met heaps of relo's my nephews are all grown up now and with families of their own..i saw them last when they were 5...4...3..years of age...

robbie missed me like crazy....and so did i miss him...next time we go out of the country im taking him with me ....

had no problems getting back into the country..in manchester the lady helping within the lines asked for everything...greencard passport...marriage certificate...extension letter...then when i got into chicago they only asked for my passport and greencard....

ohhh ya never guess what i brought home for my hubs...VB 6 pack...and i had to put it in my luggage i was so nervous about them smashing i opened the case as soon as i got it in the car and it survived the journey...with much joy on my hubby's face lol...got home next night he just had to have one and it was like watching a fella who had never drank beer before..lol..savouring every damm sip lol..cant ya tell my hubs likes VB lol...he reckons it is the best beer he has ever tasted and he has tasted heaps of international and state side beers...just wish we could get it over here for him without paying the high prices off the internet...

ok i have gabbled on way too much..

so happy that its the job you want mate...
gawd the weekend went so fast ...i just caught up with my washing gasbagging with my neighbour who told me her daughter told her that a bloke at her work just married an aussie..so fingers crossed i can hook up with her ..ya know if each town had a resource thing for all immigrants it would be so neat..that way you wouldnt miss your hearing your accent... tapeing a whole lot of stargate onto dvd for the hubmister...and reading my dragon book that has just come out..and trying to catch my manager at work ..been waiting for 3 days to do that just for permission to book my flight to the uk..

myperfect flaw..the mates up over has a recipe section both aussie and american recipes im sure you would be able to find something on rissoles in there also they use american ingredients and explain what is equivilant to aussie ingredients..

night all take care

hi heather
congrats on the journey so far going great for you...your nearly there now..
if someone can help me out on this one that has recently done the K1 interview..wasn't the affidavit of support the
I-184 .. im sure we filled that one out..just want to make sure ...

i went on the embassey website heather to check about the w2's and found this about affidavits...

A signed affidavit of support, form I-864, I-864A (if needed), or I-864EZ for each applicant.
A letter from his/her U.S. employer on company stationary verifying date of hire, position, wages or salary, numbers of hours worked per week and whether the job is full-time, permanent, part-time, or seasonal.
Most recent U.S. Federal Income Tax Returns and W-2 forms.

the above is why i question the I-864 form

hi jon and welcome ..
not being good at paperwork is one thing will change for you by the visa journey end...when you are getting this all together dont forget to make a complete copy of what you send into them for your own records..there have been many people who have received RFE's and they swear it was included in the package..be overboard about it all..read..ask questions..and just learn..that is all the advice i have really for anyone starting this process..
you found the right place to help you out with it at least mate and thats a start..

the only thing i can think of is if you have an account in australia still open to get it directly deposited into there..or
get your cousin to send you the cheque you sign it over to him/her and post it back that way it can be cashed over there and the money wired back over to you by western union maybe..

you could google cashing international cheques to find out what the process is mate..they might charge a large fee to do it also and not be able to touch the money for awhile until it cleared..

Hi Poss

yeah its been asked before but dont worry on that stuff changes all the time...go to the embassey information at the top of this page and click on the Australian Embassey there is alot of information in there that will help you..also go to the below link to the Sydney Consulate website..on the left hand side there are listings of things you need to get for your interview...

Sydney Consulate information

the police check when i was doing it was valid for 1 year...this also went for the medical..someone who has done it recently might be able to correct me is this is wrong...also with his medical and police checks tell him to make copies of police check and ask the doctor to make a copy for his records ...also tell him to get his blood tests done by his local doctor to see what his ammunity is ..that way you dont get unneccessary vaccinations and get the results printed out you can get them put on medicare..these will help with costs at the medical..

The AOS is Adjustment Of Status...which is done within 90 days of arriving in the states and after you get married...I think you were thinking of the Affidavit of Support that you as the Sponsor has to fill out and send tax transcripts and employer letter and bank statements..

Evidence you can start collecting for him to show at the interview are photot's of you together...phone bills...letters...cards...boarding passes from trips to both of you...if you sent parcels to each other the cover...the list is endless really of what you can think of that will prove you have a relationship...engagement ring receipt...um any wedding plan receipts you might have...just to name a few...

hope your NOA2 is soon to arrive...good luck

well i have started getting my stuff together for my removal of conditions....damm that 2 years went fast...will be sending it off in a couple of weeks...
went down to kentucky for a week to see robert's aunty..didnt get good news though..was a shock to the system actually...we knew his uncle had been in hospital and his aunt is in the early stages of alhzimers....she had forgotten to ring us or anyone else around her that he died on june 2nd..we turned up at her home and the relatives and church memebers were sorting out all their belongings ...the family had put her into a retirement home ..the niece had her living with her but she kept wandering off and needed 24 hour care..so to walk into that was a big downer on the trip..we went to see her in the home she recognised my hubby but as the visit went on she was not remembering him..and she thought she had met me before which she hadn't...its about the saddest thing i have experienced over here...so now i am compiling a photo album for her to send down to her and a few other things for her...
so we didnt get the answers to roberts family tree that he was hoping to get...yesterday i discovered his father was adopted...then disappears from that family within 10 years...so the search continues..and to make things worse..the cemetery robert remembers his father being buried in told us they have no record of him being there...so we have to go over to michigan to find out for ourselves...
ok enough of the rambling of me
hope everyone is doing well..
hiya sharyna....gawd mate i still would do the info pass ...if it is close by that is..but i do hope they are able to help you with any questions you fire at them...
take care

hi k3
The part about sending all documents into the consulate to get an interview date is a new thing..to me there is not much known about the rules ...

I would email the sydney consulate to verify if this is possible..there is usually a waiting time to get a medical appointment..which state your fiancee from...the consulate is very good at answering emails.. can you let us aussie's know what the answer was to your question cos it could help someone else in the same situation as you down the tracks ..thanks mate..and also on the visiting usc ..you have to write a letter explaining why you want a particular date for your interview..my husband wrote a letter stating he wanted to be with me at the interview for moral support and we got the date we wanted.. ohh one hint look at the days as well as the date when thinking up one..if you ask for a friday you either have to go back on monday and pick up the visa or get it posted out...friday's just adds to the expense of hotels flights and such...

hiya patrica
how u doing...
hello to all the others ...i know i read somewhere someone got an interview date.. congrats to you.. im on a page where if i go back to read the post i will loose everything i have typed here so do forgive me for not naming you..

hi ya all
liam/sam
interviews are conducted on any day actually..mine was on a friday...When you send in your readiness form also enclose a letter from the U.S. citz stating i will be in Australia between such a date and state you would like an interview while you are visiting for moral support of your fiance...We did this and we got the date we requested..our downfall was that we had it on a Friday not thinking about the weekend and stayed the weekend plus monday in sydney..so we could pick up my visa from the consulate on monday..which took 5 days out of our packing and seeing family in Vic although i stayed with my daughter in sydney. So if you can arrange it for a day where you could go back the next morning go for it.. the consulate are very obliging and try and help out any way they can..

Spring is here finally in Toledo .. have had some lovely weather ..5 months of cold weather just aint nice especially to an aussie lol...so were out in the garden finally organising the vegie patch and planting seeds...and tonight robbie put the flyscreens back in reason..i had the storm door open for fresh air to flow throw..and he said wrong thing to be doing kath..lol..i said why..he said racoons, squirrels, moles, deer.. gawd and here i thought he was going to say intruders..lol....

great wedding pics patrica and hd...love them..good to hear all is going well with you two..

hi poss
welcome to the thread..i know its a bit hard to find us..i usually send new aussie's a message telling them about the thread but i have slacked off..might have to talk to the admins here to see if we can get our thread to stand out more...what ya reckon guys and gals...

hiya liam and sam
welcome to the thread
before liam gets any vaccinations you can check what he needs on the australian consulate website for his age group..alot of us aussies go to our local doctors with our lists of vaccinations and ask the doc to do a blood test to see what we are ammuned to first this can be put on medicare...the results are to be on offical letterhead of the doctors office...tell him also to keep a record for himself also for future visits to the docs over here in america...
also take a look at the embassey information page on VJ .. its at the top of the page its packed with information about the medicals the doctors u can go see ....it also has the address of the consulate on there too..

i would like to say hi to all my mates on here...promise will be in here more often to help out..waves to all...

how is he enjoying the weather...ohh ask him for me..being a male over here..has he got homesick yet and does he have all the ladies swooning over his accent lol..

hi D.man
nice to see you found us..
my advice to ya is to go to the embassey reviews for sydney at the top of this page...
there are many aussie's that have gone through the interview and posted reviews..the positive and the negative side of it all..and hints too for the day..

i came here in 2006 on the K1 visa...we got approved rather quickly compared to some..but we delayed the interview..many things can delay you in getting to the interview stage...not having all the paper work in your hands..medical..police checks..and vacations over to the states...

this thread has so much to offer you..but it takes a lot of reading lol..gawd i been on this website for 3 years now and im still learning and reading lol..

my experience with the interview at sydney was to us we could of done all this over the phone and saved hundreds of dollars...lol that is how quick your actual interview is lol....but as HD said they are a friendly bunch ..the worst part of it is waiting to be called up ..but the view of sydney is fantastic lol..just have all your documents in the order they want and have everything..

dont hesitate to ask any questions in here there is heaps of lovely aussie's in here that will help ya out..
good luck
kath

hi susan
yeah i was so suprised too that i got that notification too..so i entered the receipt number into my online status thing and low and behold they had touched my orginal I-129F the day after..so i guess they were checking up on the information if it was the same....you didnt have notification by email of your status by email.. i have all the notifications printed out..and filed lol...ohh cant remember if i told ya but i found my mum's cousin that immigrated over here in 1911...there are living relatives but cant find them because of no census's after 1930 yet online...now were doing robbie's family and found quite a few of them...lol...

HD...ya right bout the emotional roll a coaster you go through in the last few weeks in oz...but as you said we understand what your going through...i i will be here 2 years in june and i havent been back....i am starting to feel it now..i keep looking at australian things and photo's we took over there...so i think im ready for a holiday over there...its also hard when you get emails from relatives saying mums looking frail or going into hosp for an operation...or you cant be there on an important event...
But...the added bonus to all this is your with the fella you love and his support and understanding eases it a hell of alot...just prepare your man for tears when you down cos it will happen and you will be right mate...my breakdown was when robbie went back to work..left alone in the apartment day in day out before i got work..now im fine and settled in to u.s. life great...

take care

i also received something from uscis on saturday...as i have said i posted in my hubby's sponsor change of address..and we received a notification that it was updated...not a bad turn around from nebraska..
posted from toledo on the 23rd feb they received it the 26 and we recevied the notice on the 1st march...all up 7 days...gawd i wish all our approvals could be that quick lol..

and another coming over...whooo hooo....hd..take the time to soak in all that is going on in oz ...your family, getting ready to leave and friends...believe me you will treasure the moments you have in your last days...your man is waiting for you on this side of world...but ya dont know when you will get the chance to see ya family again so treasure the time you have left in oz...
so you will be in chicago huh...im in toledo ohio..there are a few aussies up this end of the country...
have a look at the map mate ...

patrica...you got all the time in the world 5 weeks will go fast but take your time with the dress..why dont you go online or ebay and see what design you like...might help...i made my wedding dress..i chose my top half from a dress that i saw in a wedding shop and just copies it..and a full skirt ..gawd before i put that band on it was at least 3 people fitting lol...and i did the exact same thing as you about my first snowfall.. but i went down into it at 3 am just putting my face up to it.. i suppose its the same as when we have had such a hot day in oz and it pours down..or your town hasnt had rain for ages you do the exact same thing....i actually felt the same way when i saw my first rain fall here...gawd did it pour...but it was lovely to me...i still get a kick out of going out in the snow...

susan ... i was talking about tracking the application through the post office ... but when you get your noa1 you can enter it in the website like you would of done with your immigration application....

well yet again i have gabbled on...

owwwwwwwwww you are too funny susan...ok will send ya mine after you send me yours ...if mine aint up to par compared to yours ya not getting mine hehehehe...thanks for the giggle ...ya dag...
ok serious now mate..ya know you can track your package online...they would of given you a receipt go to HERE. and enter your receipt number..you should of heard something by now...also you can sign up for email confirmation susan...

seems to be the easiest part of the whole deal..im still annoy at the fact you pay all this money to them and on some application you dont receive an approval but they keep the money on us...in my book and this is my own opinion that it should be put into estgrow (is that the right word) for us for our removal of conditions..get all the interest ya like on it but help us out someway...ok end of rant about USCIS lol...many americans i talk to at work dont realise how expensive it is and that im not a citz because i married one...

hi ya vylex..
ohhh mate go visit susan she has always got snow to spare lol...im glad your wife is enjoying the snow ..its a facination to us aussies...many customers grumble an i smile and say i love it ...lol..which i do .. it gives the neighbourhood a whole knew look to it almost magical..gawd skiing..i wouldnt be able to stay upright..will stick to throwing snowballs at robbie and shovelling it lol..

hi ya kelli
how is the new job going..would love to get an email from you comparing mate...

take care all

hi patricia
well i know i wont be the first to welcome you to america but i can be the first aussie ...so

WELCOME TO AMERICA MATE....am happy your flight was safe and you arrived in one piece ..and by the way i never got the welcome to america cheer either at my poe..must be lax lol...see we told you there is nothing to worry about...lol

ohh you sound like me when i arrived..lol shopping shopping and shopping..i never thought of savlon cos i hardly used it in oz...must remember that one...

im not sure but i thought Macy's were going out of business...could of had a job there but wasnt wiling to work weekends..lol...i bet that was a different experience for you doing your registry for your wedding..its a big thing over here..and that was so nice of zach's parents to greet you too at the airport...hows the weather there..is it colder than you thought it would be or is st louis warm at this time of year..

take it all in mate relax enjoy and sleep all ya can to catch up...the jet lag will ease up soon too...

we had heaps of snow yesterday ...(i hear you susan..not as much as you get lol you get feet we get inches) and i noticed when i was shovelling it at 1 in the morning that it was packing really well...sooooooooo i made a snowman lol finished him about 2.30am mind you lol
i put my bombers beanie on top and wrapped him up with the bomber scarf and put my bomber shirt in front of him lol..(didnt think i should of put the shirt on first and built him up with it on lol) looked a bit rough but i finally got to do my first snowman in america...lol...took pics too lol..

ohh by the way thank you susan and pris for your kind words of praise..but i do this to help us aussies...im just so glad i found this sight all those years ago...i have even recommended it to people i know going through this process that i know in chatrooms and my neighbour who has a nephew bringing his bride from the phillipines...and you know what they say about us aussies...we stick together....

hiya vylex
nice to see you too mate...bet your wifey was rapt as when she passed her driving test...just let her know if she does a turn as if she was in australia ..for her not to feel too bad its just habit lol...when i first got mine i kept saying right side right side to myself ..and when i stopped doing that i turned a corner late at night and was on the left hand side lol luckily there was not many cars in close proximity lol...so i think we at one stage has that experience..

it is amazing how getting your licence gives you more freedom..not from our spouses but for us to adventure out amongst the natives lol..although i dont adventure too far from the roads i know ..there is plenty for me to do on the way home from work or dropping robbie off at work...last time i adventured i ended up in michigan lol..did a u turn and found where i went wrong lol

am always interested in what us aussie miss...and how they are settling in over here...

come on pris ya us on hold here ... how did you go mate...
sorry to gabble on

ok had a look on the sydney consulate's website..
and was looking at the forms webpage and took a look at the readiness form...highlighted are important facts on what forms to send back..might be on the right track but let me know will ya...

forms for immigrant visas

i dont know if we have any of you just got their noa2 but on the left hand side of this page there are other links that might be of interest to you eg. police certificate info and medical forms...

other than the above i havent read anything else on the consulates website about sending all the stuff in before interview..

ohh and...i did another change of address online to see if they do inform you about the sponsors responsibilties..
at you have sent it in online they send you to a page and at the bottom of the page they state in small print that the sponsor has to mail in their change of address ...i missed it because they ask if you have any pending applications and i clicked on no and it took me to another page saying thank you for completing the onlinen change of address..so with me not scrolling down further on that page i missed the bit about the sponsor...lesson learned lol..i still think it should be in large print where you would likely to see it...lol

just thought i would let ya know what i found out...

hi all
sorry i havent been around much...been researching my family tree..and seeing im stuck were on roberts which is even harder with not many relo's alive to ask questions...

first off patricia...lax is easy..if you are still concerned look in the poe reviews at the top of this page...and when you get there just ask which line you go in..some send you to the us citz line and some just send you through as normal..i went thought the us citz line with my hubby..and make sure you get the I-94 white card from the steward on the plane...the one i had insisted i didnt need on and had to go out of the line and fill one in..gawd was i mad after me insisting i needed one....also ...if you have really warm coats bring them with you lol...i have lost track where everyone is heading to now...lol...

hey kelli congrats..you will have to send me some emails to let me know how u get along and what the differences are compared to our store we worked in mate...hope it works out great for you..although i am fairly happy at k mart i would of preferred walmart even if they do get the bad publicity...

pris i have waiting along time for you to say your on your way up to sydney...will be sending positive vibes your way for your interview ..not that you need it..you will do just fine im sure mate...good luck and enjoy the view...

ohhh i had an email from one of our aussies that came here before me.. densusan ..and i thought it might be of some interest to you lot also..
when we moved susan and i we did an online change of address...susan saw in removal of conditions a post about the sponsor (either husband or relative) has to do a change of address also...i hadnt heard of this either..so she rang uscis and they informed her that the sponsor has to fill out and send in a I-865 sponsors change of address..

so just keep that in the back of your mind if you move addresses over here...i have refilled out a change of address and filled out robbies and sent it together with an explanation to why it wasnt done...the thing is in my way of thinking..when you look up change of address it should tell you to do the sponsor one at the same time..i either missed it or its not there lol..
katz your quite welcome with the email..did they do it automatically as i said they just might do for you...

knew there was something else to comment on....can one of you ladies clarify what the changes are that the consulate is talking about...are they saying they want everything for example...affidavit of support .. evidence of relationship or is it just all the forms filled out and sent to them to ...will do some research on this one to see if they have put anything on their website and let you know if there is anything there...

take care its bloody cold here at the mo that wind is icy...

hi katz
dont stress too much about the extension mate...what must happen is your fiance (u.s. citz) is the only one that can request the extension...we also had to have an extension...

my fiance (now hubby) wrote a letter sent it to me then i faxed it to the consulate and we got an extension....
all your fiance has to do is state why he is requesting the extension..state your circumstances that has happened ..we extended ours because robbie was coming over in june to get me and wanted to be at the interview...im sure you wont have any problems mate...just get it in asap...

if you want i can email you a copy of our extension letter ...and will look on here if there is an example for ya too

just send in the sheet that states the readiness on it katz...

hope that is some help to ya katz...

hi to all by the way.. hope ya all keeping warm and cool where ever you are...lol...
its -8c here at the moment...and the snow is staying on the ground with it being so cold lol

hey kelli have you heard anything from walmart yet mate...

take care
kath

glad you had a great time here and your on your final legs of your journey to being over here permanently....good luck for the interview mate ....not long now before your back over here...

ok someone asked about what they should remember to bring over here with them when they finally get here..
i found my tax records came in handy...simply because when we applied for our loan for the house they wanted to make sure that i just didnt get a job over here to get the loan...im just glad i had it in a safe place and knew where to get my hands on it lol...also bring some of those folders that already have the plastic sleeves in them .. for the life of me i cant remember what they are called lol but i cannot find them over here.. i brought heaps of them over but they had all my stuff in them ... just saves buying folders and plastic sleeves..also dont forget your favourite potatoe peeler lol..hmmmm if you have a really warm coat in oz dont forget to pack it...(silly me didnt have room and so miss them)

ive still got my cold this is the 3rd week..cant shake the cough and the disgusting phelm business ....it clears up and then comes back lol...i do get email notification of your posts so i am keeping up with you lot just getting home from work later now and cant be bothered typing some nights lol i know im getting lazy or tired lol..
well take care you lot
