Middle East and North AfricaFiance sent DS-230 in his packet for consulate
My fiance in Morocco sent me what he received from the consulate. Among the forms is the DS-230, which is for an Immigrant Visa. We are filing for the K1-Fiance visa. Does he need to fill out this DS-230 and take it with him to his interview anyway? Thanks guys!

Middle East and North AfricaCompleting forms sent from Embassy
My Moroccan fiance (beneficiary) wants to know if he should fill out in pen the forms the Consulate sent him (DS-230, DK-156, etc.) or if he should go to the official website with more updated forms, and type them, then print those for interview? I say he should make it nice and neat, and type the newest forms as available off the USA travel/gov website. What have you all done? THANKS :)

Middle East and North AfricaDocuments required from Moroccan police?
Hi, my fiance's got his interview in a few weeks in Casablanca, Morocco. I've heard there are 2 police documents/reports he needs to get from his local police. Can anyone tell me their experience with this? I figured there would just be one general one (lived here so and so years, no criminal history, etc. etc.) ............. THANK YOU!

Middle East and North Africaafter NOA2, 5 passport-size photos needed still?
Hi all, my fiance's interview is coming up in Casablanca. I think he needs only 5 more passport-size photos - 3 for the medical exam (?) and 2 for form DS-156 (because they require 2 of that form - so 1 photo per form). Is this right? THANKS!

Hello everyone! Just wondering if any of you have used translators in Rabat? My fiance plans to have his arabic documents translated there, and would like recommendation(s). Do you know of any good/inexpensive translators in Rabat? Thanks so much :)

Middle East and North AfricaMoroccans
I am also engaged to a Moroccan, by the way. I read somewhere in the last few months that Moroccan's are considered "caucasian" on forms - our government sees them that way or categorizes them that way. I don't know the thought-process behind this .... all I know is my fiance is a gorgeous guy, whatever his color. Good for us for not being prejudiced, and the people who we know who are - it's their loss to go through life being prejudiced, right?!

Middle East and North AfricaDenial at Casablanca and no paper given
Thank you everyone. I've sent email(s) in to the Consulate and no reply still. Tried to get through to the Visa people there and as far as I can see it's impossible and just takes your money every time you get through to the recording :( Best wishes to everyone! This can be a very long, very costly process. But - we must keep moving forward to be with the ones we love!

Middle East and North AfricaDenial at Casablanca and no paper given
Hi all,

My fiance was told it was a denial at his interview yesterday at Casa. I asked him if they gave him any paper and he told me no. All they gave him was the photographs back he'd taken with him to the interview. Has anyone heard of this before? Does anyone know what it means? I'm puzzled. And we don't know why he was denied. He was just told our case was going back to USCIS .......... hmmm! Thanks everyone

First off - congratulations and it's wonderful to hear your good news, great love story too! I really appreciate your stopping in and giving us still in the initial phases some insight into what we may expect in the days to come. Your post was really welcome and so helpful. Thanks for sharing your story, and I wish you and your husband many many years of happiness and children :o}

Middle East and North Africapositive things
Hi,

Thank you for the positive post. Good luck getting through your illness and soon feeling much better.

My relationship also has sooooo many red flags, but I feel confident my fiance and I have forged a strong union and I look forward to the day too when we are living together on the same continent

Something positive - I've gone through quite a few stages since his interview and recent expiration of our K1 visa petition. But soon I will be able to visit my fiance again and am really looking forward to that. It's been way way too long. Although I would have much preferred he and I living together and being happily married by now, this process has strengthened our resolve and made our relationship even more solid. And that's always a plus!

I like this positive post idea! Thanks for thinking of this, and for posting.

Whatever it is negative in your life right now, I hope you find your way through it and have less of that negative, and good can come from it, or soon follow on its heels. That goes for all of us.

Kathy (and Mohamed)

Middle East and North AfricaNeed to find reason(s) for denial
Thank you ALL for your answers and suggestions. Very very helpful everyone. THANKS! I don't know if this next one we'll re-do the K1 Fiance visa (this is what we tried first - his interview was in July of this year - 2011), or if we might just go for the gusto and get married there! Exciting possibilities!!! We have a lot of red flags in our situation unfortunately, and Casa I'm sure looks at them all, shakes their head no, and denies before the interview has even begun. I will look about getting the report via the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). I really appreciate everybody's input. Good luck to you all, and to me and Mohamed this time around :) Love will prevail, I'm certain of that!

Middle East and North AfricaNeed to find reason(s) for denial
Hi all, wondering if any of you know the procedure(s) to try to find out reasons why the visa wasn't issued. Is there a way that I can get any notations/reports/etc. why my Moroccan fiance did not get his visa, and why we were never given any paper at the end of the interview? I will be going back to see him soon and we will be filing from scratch again. It would be nice to know why we were denied in the first place, so we can be better prepared our second attempt. Thanks for your input everyone! p.s. His interview was in July in Casa, and no paper was issued or given to him and he was not given visa. Last month I received a notice in the mail that our petition has now expired.

Middle East and North AfricaA couple more questions about trip
Things are a lot less expensive in Morocco than in the USA in general, which is great. Some wonderful tips I heard were to bring lots of Wet Wipes type moistened towlettes, and plenty of ziploc sandwich baggies for taking fresh wipes with you, and disposing of used ones. Many Moroccan homes don't have a traditional toilette, but rather a hole in the ground and no toilet paper to be found!

I didn't take much money with me. Instead I used ATM's as someone else mentioned with no problem, but I did have to speak with customer service at my bank (B of A) and tell them I'd be traveling to Morocco between such-and-such dates, and to please ensure my account would be "ok'd" for using ATM's with my BofA card while traveling ... I've had 2 1/2 hour connections too, mid-journey, and so far so good.... I don't have advice if you miss connecting flight. anyone???

Washing - my fiance's family has a washing machine that's a little tedious/labor-intensive compared to ours. They have to hook it up to the kitchen sink and manually bail out the water at the end of the cycle, I think it was. Then hang clothing outside on a line to dry.

Have a wonderful time!

I can't help but just want to wish you good luck. Your post caught my eye because I had never even heard of Comoros (was appalled at myself) til just now! I learned something today. Maybe the fact that I've never heard of this country, seen a post or known of anyone from Comoros, etc. is just a reflection that it is a smaller nation, less population than many other nations, therefore less cases of people from Comoros emigrating to other countries?

I did the exact same thing back in October, and they (thankfully) routed it on for me. Phew! I lost only a day, thanks to them forwarding it. They probably come across this a lot. Also - side note - I made my check out to the wrong entity - I thought I was writing it out to the correct one - and again, it must have been a common mistake - they accepted it and cashed it anyway. PHEW! So, for some things, they give us some slack. YAY! Good luck to you and your honey :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresImportance of Staying with current job during k1 processing
Thanks Rebecca Jo and Squeaky. K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresImportance of Staying with current job during k1 processing
Hi all,

Do any of you fellow VJ'ers have any experience or knowledge about the advisability or not of quitting current job (of 10+ years) and starting a new job? I wouldn't quit one without the other lined up and ready to go, btw. Ideally, I'd be quitting one and starting up the other next day. And let's say both jobs kept me above the poverty line according to VJ. What do you all believe about how important it is to keep the established job during this time? (I'm just daydreaming about giving my 2 weeks' notice someday soon. I am SO ready to move on from my present job! Nothing waiting in the wings for me yet, but it's nice to dream)

Thank you everyone.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLosing my job was what brought me to re-meet my fiancee
Your story reminds me a bit of one of my best friends. She'd dated and fell in love with her boyfriend in Spain many years ago while she was visiting. They broke it off after awhile, yet kept in touch off and on over 6 years. Today - she has moved back to Spain to live and marry him! She'd gone back to visit friends, casually met up with her ex - and things blossomed from there. Just a great story, and they are SO HAPPY together  Your story reminded me of theirs. It's great. Congrats again!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHard decision to make, As many opinions as possible would honestly be appreciated
I would go ahead with my plans on time. The old me would be very considerate (too much so) with others' wishes, wants, needs but the new me is a little more "selfish" and I'm trying to life my life more thinking of my own needs too. 8 months ago did your dad really think this all was going to happen, you were really going to get married with a gal from another country, etc. etc.? Did he not start looking into it because he was maybe in denial, or is a procrastinator, or didn't know where to begin to find out how to look into this? See - that's the old me trying to see it from dad's point of view, then changing my plans to suit him better. Oh - he tried. Oh - he has a good excuse ... I must give you full disclosure! There have been many people I've come across during my foreign fiance that have advised me against this. Some who are clearly no longer in my camp. It has made me a stronger person, more sure of my convictions. I'm giving you way more than you need here, I believe, but just wanted you to see some of my reasoning why I would go ahead with my plans. It IS your life - and now not just yours but your fiancees too, and it would be disrupting your lives, together. Probably the only thing that might stop me, in your shoes, would be these considerations: does my dad not have long to live and it would mean the world to him to be at my wedding? Did my dad not try to get his situation sorted out because he's a little less considerate of me than I am of him? (I have someone in my life like that - and I am through with trying to defer to this relative, by the way. This relative has forced me to grow up and be more my own person making my own decisions) Some thoughts - if you and your gal go ahead with original plans - you could have much in your wedding that would be thoughtful towards your dad - video footage of you and your gal toasting him, saying a speech about him - or something recorded by him that you would play at your wedding/reception ... how about "live feed" so your dad is there by satellite imagining, or whatever they call it? he's there on camera looking on somehow, and you all can see him too? Maybe there IS a way for him to be there, via our latest greatest technology :) just thought about this .......... and of course in the future you and your wife could involve him in all sorts of ways in your lives ... have a special day that re-tells your wedding somehow - or show him the videotape when he can be with you 2 in person, things like this .......? I wish you 2 the best! And a wonderful wedding day!!!

Hi everyone .... I just tried calling customer service at USCIS for the first time .... when prompted I put in my "Receipt Number" which I understood to be my case status number from my NOA1 form (begins "WAC ...."). I didn't input the WAC, but just the following 10 numbers, and the message I kept getting was there weren't enough numbers. Has anyone had this issue as well? (I was calling 1-800-375-5283)

We filed at the same time back in October. Still in "Initial Review" at USCIS. I haven't yet spoken to anyone at USCIS, but sent an email to my local congresswoman and hope to hear from them and see if anything's happening or will happen, soon. This waiting and waiting and waiting gets more agonizing for each day we go past the "normal processsing time" it feels. Need strength to carry on! This is HARD to do!!

Absolutely no need to worry. We submitted ours in October, and had one touch like a week afterwards. Then nothing until almost 7 months later. We were just approved last week. Took 6 months and about 3 weeks. Almost 7 months for our NOA2. It will happen, but unfortunately, in THEIR time. Hang in there. It actually does happen, right when you've about given up hope. I promise!
