As I came running home she shouted she got her visa..

A man came on a motorcycle carrying a big envelope with her passport!!

PhilippinesSSN
I got my SSN with a "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION" stamp on the front of the card.
When i applied for it, i have not applied for my AOS yet, I applied for it 2 months after i arrived here because i had to wait for my state-issued marriage certificate to arrive in the mail....And then i received the SSN card 2 weeks after.

Maybe you need to show your Marriage certificate to the ssn officer to prove that you are a pending immigrant and that you are married to a US citizen.

Hopefully we get to see each other next sunday, so wwe can chika-chika,hahaha!!!

hi mikeandlani!
Thanks for posting your parent's interview experience and like beng, my parents and 2 siblings are planning to attend my wedding in hawaii in june. We are planning to schedule their interview once we have a definite date on june so that we could also send my parents the invitation to serve as evidence of their purpose for their trip. They both still have work as government employees so im crossing my fingers that they get visas when they get interviewed.

hi honeybear,

since your parents are both government employees, have them secure a permission to travel from their respective agencies in addtion to the requirements posted in the USEM website, this could help establish their strong ties to the Philippines and negate the presumption of intent to immigrate. as to your siblings, if they are adults and working, make sure they have with them their certificate of employment and compensation. It would likewise help if you can have your family travel to at least two countries before they apply for a visa, this is to prove that they do travel but always do come back to the Philippines. i did this with my parents, had them holiday to 3 different south east asian countries before i filled up their visa application.

just a side, an invitation does not always ensure visa issuance. 4 years ago, a friend of mine who was getting married in the US sent her family her wedding invitation as well as her wedding programme, to help her mom and eldest sister secure a tourist visa. her mom was already in her late 80s and her sister had kids, plus they had principal roles in the wedding ceremony, unfortunately they got denied. on the other hand, i know of someone who applied for a tourist visa two years ago for the purpose of attending a friend's wedding. she didn't have any invitation with her, neither did the consul nor the pre-screener ask for it. she was approved for a multiple/5. smile.gif

here's a link to sample questionnaires the consul might ask, i had my parents read through it while i prepped them for their interview. its basically a guide for indian nationals, but i guess it can apply to filipinos as well yes.gif http://***removed***/visas/visitor/interview.html

Goodluck to your family's tourist visa application and always remember to pray, as mike and i prayed hard for the approval of my parents' visa .

God Bless.

lani

thanks lani!
It"ll be of great help to me and my family...I really appreciate it.
I'm going to have them schedule for a group interview so all of them would have to go at the same time. I hope everything works out fine...
Again, Thanks so muuucchh & God bless!

PhilippinesParents' tourist visa interview experience...
QUOTE (mikeandlani @ Jan 25 2008, 06:36 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
...last tuesday (1.22.08), i brought my parents to the USEM for their tourist visa interview and with the Lord's help they successfully got their approval, with no fuss. My dad said the consul only asked them 5 questions and that was it. since i had my husband written down as their host in America and i signed their ds-156 as the person who prepared the form, the questioning went this way:

"CO : who is __________(hubby's name)?
P : our son in law
CO : how come it isnt your daughter who is sponsoring you?
P : she's still here with us in Manila
CO : why isnt she with her husband?
P : they're on the final stage of their spousal petition and is actually going in for her interview at the end of the month.
CO : how many children do you have?
P : 3. 1 girl and 2 boys
CO : and all are in the Philippines?
P : yes.
CO : ok. please give this slip to the delbros counter to arrange for your visa delivery.
P : thank you so much."

Yesterday (1.25.08) their passports arrived. they were given a multiple/10. WOOHOOO!!!!

PhilippinesManila Embassy Interview/Visa Status
QUOTE (fish @ Jan 11 2008, 08:32 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello VJ family,

I have posted this on another thread but should have posted it here.

I am so happy to share with all of you the good news. After months of job hunting I finally got my dream job. I went to 5 interviews starting last Jan.2 mostly in the city over an hr away drive and just one company close to home (we live in the country so 20 mins drive is close). Yesterday I got the call from this company who told me that they're offering me the job and to check my email for the formal job offer. The employment package was soooooo good. This morning I went to my orientation and did the drug testing. I just couldn't contain my happiness at the moment.

I've been whining about how hard it is for a new immigrant like me to find work and have experienced prejudice one time or another. One employer even told me I should be working at Wal-mart for me to gain any experience. I listened to them and tried but was overqualified. The experienced didn't deter me to look for job that is really my line and my passion. It paid off. I'll be working as an Accountant in a company where I was treated professionally and fairly during the hiring provess.

So to all of you fellow "pinays" out there trying to find the job that you've been dreaming of, be patient. In God's time it will be given to you. I was especially happy that my husband patiently supported me all the way. Drove me to my interviews in the city and bought me gps for christmas presents. Now I realized that this work meant alot to me. In a way, it makes feel that as a new immigrant this work is my final step to my journey.

Thanks everyone!

congratulations!!! kicking.gif
yeah, i guess there's always going to be prejudice and discrimination towards immigrants especially asians...I hope i do well as u did when i come over to my fiance's.
Good luck and God Bless!!!

i had our wedding here at san diego last june 30,this is our pic and i got our gown and barong at phils.
i was surprised about sa make -up dito, we paid $25 sa friend ng bridesmaid namin and guess what she only put make-up on my eyes..then sa hair naman $100 sa salon na malapit sa wedding reception...grabe nakakaloka ung price..anyways we're going to have our wedding at PI on may 30 and im going to wear same gown

mamba ur wedding theme is so cool! kicking.gif and u look pretty cute over all!

ok so thats like..5,000 converted into peso...

just curious here, if u may answer...y didnt u choose 2 tie up ur hair?..really im just curious..wala lang mas gusto mong lay down? curious lang po ha.. unsure.gif

also, wasnt it cold during ur wedding? (im asking po kase im thinking if il get a vest togethr with my gown po)

tnx!

my gown and his barong was made by Randy Ortiz,it's kinda expensive but it's cheaper compare kung dito bibilhin.it was a package na including veil, cord, shoes, bag, lalagyan ng ring (but we used big shell kasi beach wedding)...it will be better if sa phils mo pagawa ung gown mo coz it's a lot cheaper for a really nice gown.i want na nakalugay lang ung hair ko.summer kasi dito sa san diego nung wedding namin so perfect ung weather,di gaanong malamig.maybe depend kung saang state ka and when ung wedding nyo

How much did u pay for your gown with randy ortiz? it looks sooo pretty!!

yes bro ... they don have work today ... it will resume tomorrow

Thanks Jim and Heidi. Do you know the reason since it is not an US or Philippine holiday?

Anyway, for an update I called the Department of State. The Visa Expert (?) stated no documents are being required and the vise is under review. It appears we join the group in AR hell.

The reasons for Administrative Review can be for many different reasons. But, my hypothesis is that it is for document verification. The man at Window 37 asked Meryll to pay the visa document fee a second time and the top of the form is written fee paid. The fee was paid on January 7 and DELBROS was texted. It makes more sense to believe the process is working poorly than to believe the US Embassy is deliberately trying to collect the fee twice.

Hi edp333!
The embassy employees have a seminar to attend to on 2/13/07....That was why they told me to pick up my visa on the 14th and not on the 13th.....
sorry about the whole situation...i feel for you... sad.gif

Hello honeybear and everyone,

I'm just curious as to when I can actually see my appointment date online at the link you gave or what numbers to enter in the blank space. I've been checking my appointment date also but don't know when is the best time to do it. Currently i don't see appointments yet or maybe i'm doing it wrong. We have filed our petition last July 16 2007.

Thanks for any help helpsmilie.gif

I dont think there's really a set time when the embassy post the interview dates....Have you tried calling the Embassy at 301-2000 (not toll-free)?
Ask the operator if they have already documented your petition and if they say yes, then you'll be able to check your iv appointment date at their website in a matter of days. ( i did this and found out that even though they have received our petition, they have to document and encode it first before they can schedule us for interview)
The operator may also ask for your case number and look into their computer files if they have already scheduled you for an interview.
Be patient, if the embassy recieved already your petition then all you have to do is wait and see...
I used to check mine 2x a day thru their website.
Im a june filer, and i saw my interview date on december 10, in the morning.
Good luck!

I hired a Visa Service called APVISA which has pretty much abandon me and cannot get any answer from Alex there other than generic copy paste stuff from some document somewhere. No real life answers. I feel on my own and in the dark so please help us with this. James and Rona

u have to have ur fiance call the NVC and get ur case number.
then if u have the case number..
Either call the us embassy via (02)301-2000 local 5184 & 5185 to check if the embassy has already documented ur papers..(coz, it doesnt matter if they already received it...they have to document it first b4 they can process it) OR check your case online at http://203.177.135.1...tment/login.asp...

Thank you everyone for your kind words for me and my gal. That was the longest 89 days i have ever lived ...but, i know that is only a small amount of days compared to others STILL waiting. i am sorry for that everyone . You would think after hiring 1500 new workers the service centers would start speeding up now , Once again i want to wish everyone a speedy process and God bless all of my VJ family ... good.gif remember "If God leads you to it , He can lead you through it".

Actually, your waiting time is shorter than those who filed last year..apparently because of a mishap with the USCIS forwarding service.
Mine was filed in early June 2007 and approved late October which was 4 months from our filing date.
So, the 1500 new employees hired really did make a big difference.
But i agree, the hardest part of our visa journey is not the filing of the petition itself but the waiting for results....

I'm sure all the vets on this board are tired of this daily question, but keep in mind that dozens of people are just starting this process every day, and the "can I visit while the application is pending?" question is one, if not the, most pressing matters to most of them.

Information about this is all over this site, but scattered. I for one am a person who likes to hear personal experiences too, so I can make a decision based on what others in my similar situation have gone through.

The answer is yes, visits are allowed. But whether you will actually be admitted lies entirely in the hands of the officer questioning you upon entry. And face it, hearing you've got a sweetheart you're intending to/have married waiting for you in the US is going to set off a "he/she is just going to stay here forever" bell to that officer. It's your job to convince that officer that you have a life back in your home country that you fully intend, and will, go back to.

Anyway, I'm hoping people will post their experiences visiting the USC before and during the visa journey. I'm sure that all of us do visit legally, and do leave when we're supposed to. So, is there anything that worked for you? Hindered you? If you were ever denied, why? Were you able to remedy the situation and try again?

Going through customs can make your stomach turn, and make you feel like a criminal even though you've done nothing wrong. So, let's try to calm each other down and tell each other our experiences. I think we'll find that most of us are admitted (albeit with a little hassle, perhaps).

Vets, maybe this will cut down on having to answer the question 5 times a day!

Michele

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresi-130 help.....IV Application Processing Fees????
aloha,

so i have 2 cases underway, i-129f and i-130. i have received the package requesting me to pay the AOS fee of $70us, and have also received the ds-3032 form. we have completed the ds-3032 form, and i have went on the gov site and have paid online the $70us AOS fee.

the "invoice page" indicates that the $70us AOS fee has been paid, and has a box for me to check and then continue the process. this fee list my name as the "petitioner"

however, on the same "invoice page", below the "Affidavit of Support (AOS) Fees" information, it then indicates;

IV Application Processing Fees
Applicant Name Birth Year Relation Fee Amount Payment Status Select
XXXXXXX, (my wifes name- beneficiary) 1987 PRINCIPAL $400.00 NOT PAID

Total Amount Selected: $ 0.00

and then besides that part it states;

Help Topic: IV Application Processing Fees
Please note that it is NOT necessary to pay the IV Application fee for all applicants; however, if the IV Application fee is not paid for the principal applicant, the NVC cannot complete processing this case.

do i need to pay this part? do i proceed without paying?

i am at a complete roadblock here - can anyone help me?

mahalo in advance.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI-864 question
so after paying the AOS fee and following the links to continue the filing of I-864, i read carefully all the different options for me regarding I-864.

i read them all and they are quite clear as to which ones are applicable to myself (petitioner)

however, in reading the I-864W (aos exemption) it seems that the information they ask, and the qualifications required are pertaining to the immigrant or benificiary.

whereas the others ask for and pertain to the petitioner.

is that in fact the case?

ds-230 - do we fill out 1 each, 1 for me (us citizen) and 1 for my wife (immigrating) and send em in together?

do we send in 2 each (1 signed, 1 unsigned)?

As mentioned above - just 1 - for the beneficiary. The beneficiary signs part 1 of the form but not part 2 - however you send both parts back to NVC.

at this stage, am i still considered the petitioner? and my wife the benificiary?

Yes.

so at this stage, are we basically sending in 2 completed packages - one package for afidavit of support, and another package consisting of ds - 230 and related documents requested after the payment of "document processing fees"??

Yes.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedurespolice reports from a corrupt country.....
aloha,

our first time around (for k-1 fiance visa) it was pretty easy ($10, 30 minutes) to get the necessary police report for my fiance.....

....however, the next time around (for spouse cr-1) as my wife now has an american last name - they want $400us !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

would you just use the first one, albeit its a couple of years old with perhaps, a little note describing of this problem?

or would you cave-in to these creeps and pony up the $400?

bad enough she gets over-charged on nearly anything when she must show her passport.

yes, this amazing country is cambodia!

well, she is now "rich"......not!!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAppointment NVC Processing??? (for cr-1)
aloha,

we near the finish line...we pray, and give thanks, for without this site.....

a couple of questions before we finish up, seal theenvelope and wait...

with regard to Appointment NVC Processing documents (for cr-1). me being the us citizen, my wife the applicant.

(1) when they ask for the "applicants" documents, are they are refering soley to her? such as;

Birth Certificate
Court and Prison Records
Deportation Documentation
Marriage Certificate
Marriage Termination Documentation
Military Records
Petitioner Documents
Photocopy of Valid Passport Biographic Data Page
Police Certificate(s)

(2) when they ask for "originals" as well as photocopies, i presume that these two seperate batch of docs are grouped or stapled together, one being labled as "originals" and then are sent off together. sound correct?

(3) so then, they dont require any informational documents about me at this point? (as far as "petitioner documents" as listed in question 1, the examples they describe dont pertain to my wifes situation)

(4) at the bottom of the coversheets i printout from the gov. site it states "cr-1" does this mean that we are on the correct path for my wife to receive the 10 year green card soon after her arrival? how much work will this require if in fact the case?

again, thank you so much. i hope that in some way, my otherwise "simple" questions might also help others like me.

mahalo, appleegg

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedureswhaddaya think?
aloha all,

i know this is a very hypothetical question with no exact answer possible, but because my work is not being very flexable with my time-off allowed- i will ask it anyways.....and i do appreciate your answers!

we have an interview on july 13th, its a monday. i feel real good about our chances of success as we have been married for 2 years and have a very well documented history of nearly six years (i have been back to see her probably 25 times, and we have traveled to about 10 different countries together)

the crux of the problem is my work will only give me 1 week off. ideally, i would like to be there with her for the medicle exam, the interview, and the reception of visa and flight back to my home together in maui. obviously, the exam she can do herself, and probably the interview as well. but the travel part by herself i feel i should be with her (not alot of direct flights from phnompenh to maui!) she is pretty much a country bumpkin, and she would have to fly to a 3rd country (thai, viet, singapore, malay, etc.) overnight there (as well as have the correct visa for said country) then fly to japan, onward to honolulu, clear customs, then arrange interisland travel onward to maui. not an easy task, and we have not even discussed purchasing the air tickets.

should i -

1) go to the interview on monday, hope that we can get the visa by friday, then hop on a plane and start the journey home on saturday. (if that didnt work, i would probably have to fly back the next week or so and make a long weekend to fly her back - expensive, and a pain in da butt)

2) or, send her to the interview by herself, then when she receives her visa, fly over and bring her back (i feel very strongly about being at the interview)

oh, did i point out that my boss is a total jerkoff....he could easily cut me the time off - i even have an abundance of vacation time to use !!!!!

whaddaya think??

anyone with experience with the phnompenh us embassy care to tell me what you think based on your time there?

aloha,
thanks for the quick replies...sorry, i probably should have pointed out this is for ir-1 visa, we have been married for over 2 years. so not a k-1 issue.

im guessing now that we go to the medicle exam with the forms (DS-2053, DS-3024, DS-3025 and DS-3026) downloaded from this site, and we are good to go - sound about right?

mahalo for your thoughts and wisdom.
