United KingdomQuestion regarding US visa photos
I took a photo myself and uploaded it to a photo service online (I can't remember which one but there are dozens) It allows you to crop it and helps you size it to the requirements for the US then you can either print it off yourself for free or pay them to do it. I got 4 for £3.99.

United KingdomIt's my interview on Monday!

Print out the email to take with you.

My interview time was 9am on the letter. Those times are kinda like a guideline more than anything!

I got there just before 8am. First 'checkpoint', they ask for your letter and passport, and check you off a list. Then you wait to go through the security. That only took a few miniutes of waiting. Whereas there where plenty of people, it wasn't a big line.

Remember no electronics and that means those bank internet keys too (if you have one!)! Not just the more obvious things (phone, e-readers, mp3 players...).

Diane had ipod earphones in her handbag. She was given the choice of taking them back to the hotel or throwing them in the bin outside the security booth so in the bin they went! They are very strict about anything with a wire in it.

$400 dollars?? * welp *

Money well spent for eternal happiness!

United KingdomPetition DENIED??
In Scotland we don't have a decree absolute. Scottish and English legal systems are completely separate and different. This is my actual divorce decree. It is signed and stamped.

United KingdomAnyone wish they were back in the UK

Sorry for your experience. But I think it is naive to generalize America based on your experience in one city.
How about moving to another state? California perhaps. My fiancee parents live near lake tahoes in northern california, small town but the people there are very nice and friendly and almost no crime. They don't even lock their doors when they go out to walk the dogs..
Again, my experience of living in America is from california where most of the people are pretty open-minded and friendly.

Ditto for New England. (Well maybe best to lock your doors in the Boston area!)

United KingdomAnyone wish they were back in the UK

Just to clarify, in the UK you pay toward the NHS with your National Insurance Contributions, which are separate from your Income Tax. NI goes towards the NHS and your State pension. So, in effect, you are paying specific healthcare "insurance", only the scale is the same for everyone and everyone in employment contributes, according to their ability (income).

Only if you work. Everyone gets treatment regardless of whether they pay NI or not. Plenty people get it completely free.

United KingdomUK vs England

Uh, no. The current Geico Gecko is an actor named Jake Wood, he's English and he used to be in Eastenders.

He's still on Eastenders. He plays Max Branning. I'm watching it right now!

United KingdomFlights from UK

Hi there

Just wanted to let you know that my husband got some reasonable flights from flightcentre in the UK.
I'm not sure how they compare -- but he is flying on Thursday with Virgin and both flights cost 520 pounds each (pound sign??)

If you're using an American keyboard without a £ sign. Hold down the alt key whilst typing 0163 and when you release the alt key a lovely £ should appear.

United KingdomSpotted Dick

Depends on the quality of the filling

Again it has to be moist. That is the key to success.

What about taking a spotted ####### into IHOP and sticking it alongside some french toast and covering it with syrup?

Hm, I'm going to have a heart attack when I move to the US from a clogged artery aren't I?

If you restrict yourself to only 4 or 5 times a week you'll be fine.
