National Visa Center (Dept of State)tax transcript

I called the IRS asking for my tax transcript. I guess there are more than one type. Do I need the filing transcripts or the income ones? Thanks.

Hi,

I had the IRS send me tax transcripts and I don't recall the person asking me to choose between two options. Did you talk to someone on the phone or did you go through the automated phone system?

I actually talked to a live operator, and told them I needed my Tax transcripts for immigration purposes for the last three years and that was it. No other questions were asked.

Hmmm... by "filing" do you mean "nonfiling?" And by "income" do you mean the W-2s? Because unless you have a very odd situation, you are probably looking for "return transcripts."

Asia: East and PacificEnglish classes for native Thai speaker?
My fiancee's English is pretty good. She'll have no trouble with basic communication, save for an accent that could be slightly difficult for the uninitiated her in the states.

Do you think English classes at the local community college are a good idea or is she likely to pick up things just from being emersed in an English-only environment?

Asia: East and PacificBangkok Embassy- best visa to try for?
QUOTE (thaigecko @ Sep 14 2008, 01:44 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Any thoughts based on anyones experience with the Bangkok Embassy. We got shot down already for a visitor visa, the representative didn't care about the fact we had a store here, fiance has a 5 year old daughter she takes care of ect.. So I'm either thinking if it will be easier if we go again and already have the marriage done and try for the visitor visa again, or go through the K-1 route before we do the marriage paperwork. The K-1 route I woudn't be able to show a job in the US, but have the job here, so not sure if they will flat out deny the K-1 from the I-134, or maybe still give the K-1 anyway or look at the situation and then give us a visitor visa.
We don't want to really do the marriage till next year, but want to get her over to visit the states a bit for a vacation is all really.
Any suggestions would be great, thanks,
Nick

Don't feel bad. I had exactly the same experience.

I was just talking with my fiancee in Thailand this morning. We are in the process of applying for the K-1. I asked, "What if you have a hard time adjusting here?" She replied, "I'll have no problem if you grow me those chili plants." Her father gave me about 200 Thai chili pepper seeds to grow here for when she comes. That was all I needed to hear. I'll be sure to have a garden-full for her.

I already experimented this year. She's a farm girl, so she'll have the biggest garden I can manage here. Luckily, I love thai food almost as much as I love her!

It is an online service, not satellite. Rin and the children watch it everyday on the computer.

And yeah, I had to buy more spoons!

thanks! I went to the site, but don't read Thai, so I sort of assumed it was a sat dish thing. But great that it's online! That's perfect.

Funny thing about the spoons ... when I first moved to BKK I thought the spoon thing was a bit odd, but after three years there I got really used to it! Esp. for rice, it makes a lot of sense.

You nailed it, my wife came from South China, so did not like the cold weather, FOOD, but religion was not an issue in her case.

My advice, seek out others from Thailand in your community and make friends, this gives your spouse a feeling of a safety net in a new strange land (USA), we did this and now have many friends from Taiwan, China, and Hong Kong living here in Rochester that my wife can chat with and we can do things with.

Food is always an issue, even the local restaurants that do make Chinese food, tend to "Americanize" the food, it has taken some time to find ones that are true to the home stile. Look for Asian, and Indian grocers for food.

Yeah, I got a heads up on the food thing when Noi and I took a trip to Hong Kong a few years ago (I lived there before Thailand), so really was having trouble finding "her" food and it became a major distraction for the otherwise pleasant visit.

I guess I should start hanging out more at the local Thai-owned restaurant ... even though I don't think the food there is that great!

Asia: East and PacificBiggest adjustment for Thais coming to U.S.
I lived with and worked in Thailand for 3 years, so would like to think I have an idea of what the cultural differences are, but theory and practice are not always the same.

I anticipate (hell, I know) food is going to be a big factor for my Noi feeling good about her new life in America. She'll need Thai food, but she (and I) are happy to make it. I personally LOVE Thai food, ate it everyday while I lived there and miss it in the U.S. To prepare for Noi's arrival (Ok ... I JUST filed for K-1), I have figured out where to get all the ingredients she'll need to make her favorite Thai dishes.

Religion, I suspect, will be a little less important, though I think she'll want to go to temple now and then. So, I have found a few temples in the region and plan to drop in on them in the next few months.

She thinks she's prepared for the winter cold, but I know she's going to be shocked/surprised. Not much I can do about that other than a good-quality gortex parka.

Is there anything big here I might be missing?

I agree with Omoba, MOVE ON. Do not spend all that money either to go and visit him. Do not spend any more money on phone calls. If he wants you bad enough make him work for it. But be real about the situation.

Best of Luck.

IMO the cultural financial obstacles ( internet cafe and flash with phone card ) can be a valid reason , especialy if he has no job or very low pay, however everything else
you have mentioned doesn't add up and I would be extremely cautious to undertake
such a journey and expenses under these cirumstances.
If you are not a priority now you certainly will not be later and he puts his "social life"
first as you said.
My opinion of * move on * still stands. But only you know when the time is right to do so.
I hate for you to get sucked into this and end up getting hurt even more down the road.
Remember you deserve the best ! Whatever you decide, I wish you the best.

Please i have a question about the Affidavit of support, i didn't make enough last year to support my fiancee but the letter from my employer this year is more than what i made last year because i changed my job at the end of last year so am i going to need a co- sponsor or the letter from my employer stating how much i make in a year is going to be enough? since i didn't make enough last year and its in my tax papers. Thanks for your answers in advance.

This is not a problem as I didn't make enough last year either, my employment letter stated that my income this year is enough now. What I included with my affidavit was the notarized copy of 2008 tax return, employment letter, a letter from my bank. I did not need a co-sponsor.
We just got our visa approval this week!

Hello,
I was looking at your timeline and I was wondering how long it took for the Lagos consulate to send you packet 3? Also do you have an interview date. According to DHL our petition was delivered to Lagos consulate October 26. Should he go to the consulate and pick it up himself that is packet 3?
thanks so much for your reply i just wanted to make sure.

Our case was a little different as we used an attorney, big waste of money....Packet 3 can be downloaded off the Lagos consulate website. I will send you an email with the information we received and used. Too much to type. Our interview date was Tues. Oct 27th, we were granted the k1 visa, thank God! I believe you can no longer pick up the packets from the consulate, you must download them from the website or wait for the consulate to email to you. My advise to you is when you download packet 3, get the physical done as soon as possible, it takes a couple weeks from start to finish.

Congrats

I know Lagos can be especially difficult at the lengths they go to in trying to deny the visas. I actually think some of the ones there think their character is to do just that. Lets post some of those difficult questions so we can help others.

Up front we are a middle aged couple , I am older and white.

These may not be in the order asked but

How did we meet

How many times had I visited

How many times have I been married

Why was I divorced

How many children , their names , birth order , how many live with me and what do they do ( my kids are adults)

How many grand kids

How many siblings , and what are their names and locations.

What degrees do I have , what where the school and when did I get them.

Where do I live , what style of house and how many rooms

Do I rent or own

Where do I work and what do I do there

What are my parents names and what do they do ( he replied that they were both dead when we met and that dead people do nothing )

How did we communicate and what was the average length of our calls.

Why we didn't marry in Nigeria.

where are we planning to marry in the US

What year did I move out of NY state

In the interview it came up that his father had died since my initial visit and she asked him if his father died when he found out he was planning on marrying a white woman.

I think that is most of the questions .

Any others that someone can add. Maybe not ones you were asked but overheard while inside the interview area ?

Here are some of the questions they asked my husband.
1. How much does it cost per min to call your wife?
2. What does your wife do for a living? They want the title. Then the officer asked him to explain my daily duties @ work.
3. What does your wife do after work?
4. how far away is your wife's place of work, from her house?
5. Many siblings does your wife have?
6. Which 1 of the siblings are you closer to? and why?
7. The university your wife graduated from, and its location.
8. Our proof of communication.
9. Our proof of relationship (pictures)
My husband is 5yrs older than me, and we are both in our twenties. The officer never asked about our age difference.

Congratulations Dapu!!!!!!!!!!!!!
