Africa: Sub-SaharanNOA2 hard copy.

Hi every one,our case has been sent to lagos now and it has been almost a month. We have not recived the NOA2 yet in the mail yet,but we have our case number that was given to us at the NVC.What next do we do about the NOA2, its almost a month,do we still wait or call NVC?

Congratulations on your NOA2. But I will still get in contact with USCIS, because when your fiancee comes to the states to Adjust Status, the NOA2 is one of the things that you will have to provide. Hope that was helpful.

Africa: Sub-SaharanNigerian Bride Price
BUT..... Its depend on the CO interviewing your husband. I believe their was a story here on VJ where there was a Nigerian man (I believe he was living in Ghana at the time), well anyways he went for an interview there, and they turned him away saying that they will transfer his file and be interviewed in Nigeria. Well long story short, that mans visa was denied. (I forgot the specifics of the story but it is here in the Africa:Sub-Saharan section). Wherever your man is being interviewed, kill the CO with a lot of evidence so they wont have a reason to deny you. All the Best.

What if the interview letter hasn't arrived (you know Nigerian mail). My fiance and I have been waiting for it, and he has not gotten it, but we got an email stating the date of the interview from the Lagos consulate. So what does he take to the police and medical test-is this something that can be downloaded?
Thanks!

Sorry M2MarryN, but the Lagos Consulate does not mail out any interview letter. You can email the Lagos Consulate or call the Department of State (make sure that you provide youe fiancee NVC case number) for your interview date. I hope that was helpful

If you do not meet the poverty line requirements, then you must obtain a co-sponsor that could meet the requirement. Their is alot of information on poverty line requirements here on Visa journey and at www.uscis.gov. You can use the search engine for better assistance. I hope that was helpful? All the Best

Africa: Sub-SaharanHusband is over it

This is not the first time that "idontcare" has treaded the path of "putting asunder". I have long concluded that "Idontcare", based solely on her unfortunate experiences, has made it a point of duty to lump all marriages that involve Nigerians into one miserable box. I suggest that the OP takes time to consider her options. I know not your entire situation but this much i know: swallowing hook, line, sinker any thoughts, suggestions, ideas and what have you from "IDONTCARE" will be a blunder of amazing proportions..........

Is it not ironical that after several months of being away from VJ (and SS-Africa) i stop by briefly and the one thread i peruse has IDONTCARE going off the deep end as usual? Hmmm maybe i was meant to neutralize some of her comments...if i take this upon myself i think IDONTCARE may need a long vacation....but then we are talking indicators of probability here, arnt we...... IF!!!

By the way i think there are one or two who may have tried to contact me over the past few months. Hey if you have, please feel free to drop a new note. I apologize for not being in touch. I will check back later today and will certainly be happy to share any experiences...

Hello ghanagal,
Im so sorry to hear about what you and your husband are going through. This visa journey is not an easy process. I too was in the same boat with you as well. My fiancee (then we are married now), was denied intially. We were both heartbroken, distraught and frustrated over the visa denial.I even discussed options about breaking up as well. But with all that being said we prayed about it. You two are husband and wife, and if you believe and put your faith in God, anything is possible.Just believe and have faith. Please excercise patience. Dont give up and fight for your marriage. Take care and All the Best.

Africa: Sub-SaharanNaija women on the lookout

I have a friend of a friend who was just scam on black planet website. Guy had some good looking pic she fell for (which probably was not him), he sweet talked her over conversation. He then told her he was coming to visit her here in the states from England. Claim e was coming to do business. Never showed and gave some sob story about his mom being sick or something. Then he started asking for money and she sent it a couple times.. Supposedly her travel back and forth between Africa and England. I blame her though...How can women be so gullible to people they never met online. People post fake pics and tell so many lies.

I strongly agree with your post. If you are that "gullible" to send money to an absolute stranger, then to me its disregared as a scam. I call it stupidity.

Africa: Sub-Saharan4 and a half years and still doing great....

Sorry it is has been a very long time since I have posted here on VJ but I do read the boards once in while. Just thought I wouild stop in and say HI to all the oldtimers and new ones. My husband and I have been married since april 2006 and he arrived here in the states in march of 2008. Since he has been here he has been working and taking good care of me.......Sad to say we have miscarraid 3 times. lost all three of our babies......However things are good now....we have been through alot together and our relationship only seems to get stronger every day........words can not express how much I love my husband and how much he loves me......We may be done with the visajourney however we are still on the journey of life togehter and it is a happy one. I cant say it is a happy ending because our love story is still being written......everyday we fill new pages up with many happy memories. And yes even when things are so sad and hard to deal with that is when we are at our best.....We dont turn away from one another we turn to each other for our strength.....We talk to each other listen to each other and respect each other...... Most importent we pray to our God Jehovah together.......When Jehovah is in a marrige and you are guided by his love then your marrige will be an everlasting one.........I hope that everyone here new or old VJ'ers find them selves as happy as we are......I will check back in soon, as my Husband is planning a trip to go back to Nigeria in march to visit his family.......will let you know how that turns out......byeee for now ...

Very Good to hear that your enjoying your marriage with your husband. Its very encouraging for you to post your story. Whenever you visit VJ, you can post your story on the Happy Endings forum. Take care.

Africa: Sub-SaharanGender roles and West Africans

I am American from Alabama living in Delaware my wife is from Conakry Guinea, and the best way I can describe our marriage is by the Isley Brothers song "Living for the love of you" I love it. She lets me help around the house when no one is around but when her/our aunt or family comes to visits she wont allow me to lift a finger. I wake everyday at 4am for work and I tries to let her sleep but she gets up with me and for dinner we sit and eat together. This past winter during the snow storm she tried to come outside and help me dig ourselves out she was more in da way but she was there the whole time with me, my wife my African family is wonderful and both of our family she is a blessing. We do everything together, go everyplace together. My life is great right now.

Thats good to hear. Its good to be in love. You should post your story in the Happy Endings section.

Africa: Sub-SaharanGender roles and West Africans
My husband is Nigerian born(he's yoruba) and Im Nigerian/American born (my parents are both igbo) so besides the gender roles I was more worried about tribal clashes. As far as gender role, my husband is very very helpful when it comes to household chores and cooking especially. There was this misconception that African men dont cook, or doing anything else in the house leaving the wife to do everything. But with that being said I would guess that it will come from mans upbringing.

Africa: Sub-SaharanMy husbands greencard has been approved!!!
After everything we went through with the Lagos Consulate and visa journey, Im proud to announce that my husband was approved for his greencard this morning. Wishing all of you all the best and goodluck with rest of your journey. Here is more detail about the interview.
We were approved!!!!    We arrived in Baltimore, Maryland exactly 10:00 am. Our interview was scheduled for 11am. Only to realize that we forgot our marriage certificate at home. We quickly went back home came back and arrived at 11:08am (I was speeding). We went through security, who escorted us to room 103. We checked in at the front desk and the receptionist told us to listen for our name to be called. We waited for about 10 mins, and a young white lady called my husbands name. We said Good Morning to her because she really didnt look so friendly. Before we can sit down we were sworn in. Funny enough I was the one be intervied the most. These were the questions she asked:
Whats your husbands mother and fathers name?
What is his Date of Birth?
Where was he born?
Where do you work?
How did you meet? she asked the both of us
She asked my husband for my date of birth?
Do we have any children?
Have we ever been married before?
She asked my husband what my parents do for a living
Asked me where my husband was working prior to coming to the US?
Has his parents visited USA?
Asked us many random questions. She was correlating the information we put on our AOS application. Towards the end she asked my husband the criminal questionaire on the end of the AOS application. She said that we should be receiving something in the mail in a few weeks. That she doesnt see anything wrong with approving this application!!!! Our interview chatted and gisted with the both of us. We made her laugh so many times. She was ok.

Africa: Sub-SaharanI Got An Interview Date!!!!

Thanks so much, Aya, Nwanyioma and Missin Miss D....We are elated to have come this far. This is actually our second petition (the first - a K1 visa - was denied for ridiculous reasons back on March 23, 2010) so we know the drill with the medicals and everything else...lol You can be sure that not only did we front-load this petition with loads of supporting documentation, but we're prepared with a trunkful more to bring to the Embassy! Thanks, everyone for your support.
A word to Nwanyioma: I want to thank you for your kind words and support back in March of this year when our K1 was denied. We were devastated and thought all was lost. People like you encouraged us to get right back up, dust ourselves off, get married and prove to the Consulate that we had EVERY intention of getting married!
To all those who are still waiting - your turn will come and then I'll be congratulating you!

Mrs.Debby,
No worries. Thats what we are hear for. To help and support each other especially during trying times and dealing with the Lagos consulate. You have conquered and prevailed. Im so happy for you and your husband. Take care and stay blessed.

Africa: Sub-SaharanVisa not at pick up location

oh my God. So someone or some people have gone through this same thing and pulled through. My k1-visa was approved on august 19th 2010 and i was asked to pick up the visa on 26th a week after but believe you me ,it was not ready on that 26th and even on Friday 27th. I was told to call the collection center today instead of coming to Lagos and not getting the passport. I called today and my name was not in the list of passports that was sent to the collection center. I began to wonder if anything has gone wrong any where until i came here and found out that some people have encountered the same delay. oh what a relieve to know that it will finally be released. Thank you for keeping this site updated. thank you Nwanyioma, i have been inspired by your journey so far on this. love you all:innocent:

Abbeydcool,
So sorry for the delay on your wife visa. If you see on my timeline, my husband went to Victoria Islands 3 times before he was able to get his passport with the visa in it. He was told the first couple of times to call them to see if it is ready for pick up. Hope your situation is resolved very soon. All the Best.

Sorry for the 221g that was issued to you. Lagos Consulate is a hard consulate to give you making it not so easy to issue a visa. Try and give them what they want. Once you have sent what is needed to your husband, then schedule an interview by emailing them when you are ready. Im sure that once everything is received I believe that everything will be fine. Africa: Sub-SaharanGhanaian Traditnal Engagement

Ditto.

Like I said above, if it even puts the idea in the CO's mind then its better to leave it out. The same goes for communication you may present between the both of you (text messages, email, etc). If you refer to each other as wifey, hubby etc etc then DO NOT INCLUDE THEM. A lot of people on here do (us included) but I made sure to not include that in the proof we sent.

I agree with ZeeBee. Better to be safe then sorry I wouldn't include them. Me and my husband (he was fiancée then) and we were absolutely not married then were calling each other husband and wife on our emails and it was a big problem with the CO. She believed that we were secretly married and I had to FedEx 2 of my passports to defend that I did not come to Nigeria and get married. Just unnecessary drama if you ask me. Don't do it!
