US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionFinally visa approved at Lagos Consulate!!!!!!!!!!
Hello VJ Members,
Its my pleasure to announce to you all that my fiancee's visa has been approved at the Lagos Consulate. This visa journey has been tough. We overcame all odds. My fiancee returned to the consulate at 1pm. His number was called and he returned to the insane Asian CO who interviewed him the second time after we were initially denied the first time. She asked him if he had the documents that she requested, and he said yes and he presented it to her. She then asked When was the first time we saw each other, how long did we stay in Dubai, what i did last weekend? Then she started again to drill him on the emails that were omitted because we were calling each other husband and wife. He asked her "I thought we went over this already"? She continued by saying that American ladies dont address each other as husband and wife unless they are married and he told her that he doesnt consider me to be American since both of my parents are Nigerians. She then said that how does she know that we didnt get married in Dubai? He said that we didnt because Dubai is a muslim country. The Asian CO looked at my fiancee for about 5 seconds according to him, and she asked him if he had his passport. He said yes. Then she typed something on the computer and he gave him a yellow paper telling him that he should pick up his passport with his visa inside next week Tuesday March 2. I recommend everyone going through Lagos Consulate to pray hard and be very prepared and be ready to fight and defend your relationship. I would like to thank everyone who has helped and supported me through these trying times especially:
Africa Sub Saharan members: Thank you so much
momov31: Good Luck on Thursday I will be praying for you
Amarachi's wife: Your words of encouragement will never be forgotten Thank you so much Praying for a speedy AP

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPhone call record in Nigeria
Hello upchurch,
I know that denials in Nigeria are becoming too much, but my fiancee showed records of me calling him and it didnt seem to be a problem. I used ustelelinks. It shows how long we were on the phone, my full name address and phone number just like a regular phone bill. Good luck

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionStopped the Interview
Im really sorry to hear about your fiancee's denial. I was (and still kinda am) in the same situation. But this being from the Lagos Consulate. Our first interview my fiancee was flat out denied (No questions asked) and on the form it said that the petition will be sent to the US for review/revocation and our marriage was for immigration purpposes. I know exactly how you feel believe me. After the interview, I immediately contacted my senator to make inquiries on why exactly my fiancees visa was denied. Miraculously, my fiancee was given a second interview and he was issued a 221g for additional documents. Please dont give up!!!! I dont know what these CO''s gain from denying couples but its very frustrating. Take care. All the best and Good Luck.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDo I have to it all again? My interview was tough!
Sorry for the late replies. Since you have all the documents ready to be submitted, make sure that you email the consulate requesting for another interview date. As I previously stated in one of your other post, there's no definite answer as to if you will get approved, denied, placed on AP, many different scenarios. It depends on the discretion of the Counsalar officer. Please dont be discouraged. I was once in your shoes. Be prayerful and have faith. Goodluck and please let us know the outcome. All the Best.

US Citizenship General DiscussionIs it TRUE?
Hi there,

I just read through the news of Immigration stuff and found something stated, that spouses can apply for citizenship after three years already now? They say it was reduced to three years...so I guess you had to wait longer before?

Thanks Isabel

US Citizenship General DiscussionFake ID's

My girlfriend (soon to be fiance, illegal from Mexico) applied for a good job with a company, that upon the initial interview, only needed one photo ID. The second interview with the HR department required her to show a green card and SS#. Even with an ITIN #, she will not get the job without the green card and SS#. She has a fake SS# and Green Card. If she presents these, she will be hired. What do we do? We don't want to jeapordize our soon-to-be-started I-129 process. Will they ever know?

fake SS# and fake greencard? You are kidding, right? I wonder....dont they see if the ssn is faked. Sorry for jumping out the line here (maybe) but get her home to mexico and do what needs to be done. That is just ridiculous, sorry. Many many people wait and wait and wait for the legal processing and she just has a freakin FAKE ID. Sorry, those things get me mad.

Oh and you as her soon to be fiance....how can you support these things? Am I in the wrong movie here? How to switch the freakin channel? I hope they catch her and ban her for lifetime. People just like this woman making this whole immigration process so hard. How can you honestly expect and *good* suggestions here? I really admire the people who already answered so politely. :o

Isabel

Hola Amig@s,

Hi Mayra

Have your hubby take a chill pill before the interview. Showing your love for each other (search this thread to my and others' interview recounts) will help if they are looking at you in the seating area while waiting- but don't assume they are... and dress business casual, not disco casual.

Other than that, expect the questions listed throughout this thread.

Much luck

OMG Hal, you cracked me up...dress buss casual not disco casual..hilarious!!! I know what you mean...not a hoochie here my friend lolZ!
Yeah, I know the whole process starts from the waiting area and on.... that's waht i tell my hubby to chill seriously b/c they can see all these nervousness...we have nothing to fear, its just a process that we have to go through, you know. But really wanted to get it from you guys that might have gone throught it so i can send it to him and he can just relax.

I think we have everything, just take lots of evidence....I myself will be at the interview....what a plus!!
really he has nothing to worry about wink.gif

thanks again...Mayra

US Citizenship General DiscussionIs it possible to have tri-citizenship?
With ref to your citizenship question.
I believe that the US does not recognze any other countries passport or citizenship. When you swear in as an American, you have to denounce your home country.
Good luck with your case.

Hi,

Ive just been reading some posts on dual citizenship and I was wondering whether its possible to have tri-citizenship?

I am UK citizen with Irish parents, so can get Irish citizenship at any time and was thinking of doing this. I am a Perm Res here in the US and wondered whether I can apply for the US citizenship and keep both UK and Irish?

Also, is my USC husband allowed UK or Irish citizenship even though we both live here in the US ?

thanks

Yes. Yes. & No, not til he satisfies UK or Irish terms for naturalizing (I'm for sure with the 'no' for UK--have to live there---you will have to look up Irish)

Check out the dual citz FAQ, link in my signature (or the FAQ for this section, the pinned post for this forum & the Guide).

it would be nice if you could attend the interview for support to your fiance, but quiet frankly i don't think it makes much difference whether or not you attend. because most consulate won't even let the petitioner in the interview room.she will be fine, just make sure all the paper work are together. best wishes :)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionSolo for the interview
I have been reading alot of interview threads. It is possible that work may prevent me from being in Brazil at the time of our interview. Would we need to reschedule if this occurs? I am thinking that I am still 6 months away from our interview as our NOA1 date was 12/01/2010. I am working on a project in California and it looks like I will be unavailable until July. I am sure it makes the process go alot smoother when the couples are together but surely they must understand that some of us have jobs that do not offer this kind of flexibility. Does anyone have any input on attending the interview without the fiance present? Thanks for all of your thoughts and comments

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview attendance - Peru [edited title]

Be advised some consulates do not allow the USC to be in the interview with their beneficienary. You will need to check on the embassy websites for more information on your particular consulate office. So the answer to your questions is no, it is not mandatory that you go to the interview. Hope this helps and good luck to you.

The embassy's are aware that life does not stop for this process, some people have employment responsibilities and are not able to make the interview while others do not have the finances to travel for the interview only to come back in a few weeks to escort thier fiance to the POE. I am sure they love to see the support but I do not think it is a deal breaker by any means. Best of luck to you

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionBrazil Interview

We are flying from Congonhas Airport Sao Paulo to San Dumont. 2 roundtrip tickets cost about $300(USD) with Avianca. The problem for GRU is that you have to either take a taxi or pay for Onibus to get there and back. (if you do not have anyone to take you or pick you up) With Congonhas, we can take the one of the buses with the Metro system for $3 R each way to get there. Pretty easy and cheap.
Still looking for a good hotel that doesn't cost too much in Rio. Will look at Blob's suggestion. I know some areas close to consulate that you do not want to be out after 10pm. Just be smart and careful. We didn't have anyone to drive us and the trip is about 6-8 hours (from Sao Paulo) depending on traffic at the time. The flight is an hour. It is too bad that they do not have the train from Sao Paulo to Rio ready yet. That would be nice.
Boa Sorte,

Thank you, With my fiance being 5 months pregnant, Rio said they would be able to work in a closer interview date. I am now trying to put together everything that we need to purchase. Is there a "complete" list anywhere?

The Santos Dumont airport is literally 1 mile (2/km) from the Consulate. I was going to be flying to Rio (tickets for 2 cost around $400 round trip from Sao Paulo GRU) but a friend is driving me and my fiancee instead. As for a hotel, I decided to stay in Hotel Rondônia Palace in the Flamingo section of Rio. That for 3 nights cost 299 reais, with breakfest.

Thank you so much, The airport was my focus. I am sure our tickets will be pricey, from Belem :(. Thank you very much for the info

Good Afternoon VJ my question today is in regards to I the US petitioner and my preparation of my documents that I will be sending to my fiancé in Basil. My questions are #1- how “ in advanced” can my documents be?.. such as my affidavit of support , and bank statements , letter from employer etc.. Her interview is on April 12th I will not be there with her due to a work project and mail to Basil where she lives can take from 10 days to 50 days with no ability to send fed ex or an expedited carrier like that as she is in a small town in Bahia not a major city. Also kind of a silly question but are you entering the bank deposit verification dollar amount onto the affidavit of support under the question “ I have deposit is US banks for this amount”? . thank you in advance

Or does she have the option to take some now? and the rest later on? Or at least all by the time she does her AOS?.. you really dont need bank statements as long as you make above the required poverty level. I had the same question running through my head I am an underwriter for a bank and tried to approach this whole process in the same way as its all a matter of proving this and that very similar concept to a loan application as a rule its always good to provide what you need giving extra info is more work for the other party and can always leave room for more questions etc.. though I do have alot of savings I elected to leave this out as its really not a requirement as long as yuou make enough money to cover the poverty level.
