US Citizenship General DiscussionOath Ceremony Letter received!!
QUOTE (Waiting4GC @ Apr 7 2008, 04:35 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I just received my Oath Letter in the Mail. I am so happy that the process is almost over. It took a total of 5 months and 26 days to complete the Naturalization process. I want to thank all of you for answering my questions. Having a forum like this helps a lot in such a complicated and lengthy process as the one we are going through.

As I side note, I still have not received my 10 year permanent card. It looks like I will never get it. If I don't get it before the Naturalization date, should I take with me the expired one?

Thanks again and good luck to all of you.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionVery Desperate!!!!!!
Hello VJ Family,
I need your help badly. On December 30, 2009 my fiancee went for his k1 visa interview and he was denied. Well this morning the Lagos Consulate called him in for a second interview January 14,2010 at 1pm. I dont know if my second interview had anything to do with my Senator in Maryland/Washington DC Benjamin Cardin calling for inquiries. They told him to bring additional documents. I went to the Nigeria Embassy in Washington DC this morning and they said that its last minute and there not guaranteed that I will get the visa before the 14th of January. My fiancee is on his way to my fathers house to meet and take pictures with him (My father is in Nigeria presently). So what should i do? Im just as nervous as the first time. After God has granted me this favor I dont want anything to mess up. All advices will be greatly appreciated. Time is against me. Thank you guys for all of your wisdom and encouragement. I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussion2nd Interview January 14,2010

You're very lucky that your fiancee is being given a second chance at an interview! I would question your fiancee intensely and review all the questions he was asked the first time around. Did he perhaps have difficulty answering some of them? Prep him very good and make sure he knows EVERYTHING! See if he can ascertain when he thought perhaps things were not going well at the interview. Facial expressions, increased questioning around a certain aspect of your case etc. might help you both in determining what exactly they were looking for, or what aspect of your case was facing extra scrutiny. Are you sure he has enough documentation to satisfy the Embassy?

Best of luck in having a successful interview!

Carlawarla
Thank you so much for your response. During the first interview, he was asked alot of questions and he answered everything correctly. The only problem that the CO had was that I havent met his parents and he hasnt met mine. But in my opinion I dont think that should be grounds for a denial? My dad is currently in Nigeria so he met up with him and took pictures. I couldnt attend the interview as much as I would love to because it was last minute (we found out about the second interview last week Monday January 4) and the Nigeria Embassy in Nigeria couldnt expedite the visa. Im also in an accelerated nursing program to become an RN and that was another problem. I sent an affidavit stating my reasons for not being able to make the interview.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussion2nd Interview January 14,2010
Hello VJ,
I am dealing with a high fraud consulate and i dont know what to do. My fiancee was denied the k1 visa Deceber 30,2009. He answered all the questions correctly and the CO gave him a white slip stating that he was getting the visa for immigration purposes. That same day I called my Senator to inquiry about the case. The following day the embassy replied to my senator given my fiancee a second interview. Im so anxious and nervous. I dont know what to do. Any advice will greatly be appreciated

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWhat next after we provide the additional documents requested?
Hello VJ members,
My fiancee was given a 221g requesting additional documents on January 14 at the Lagos Consulate. On the white type slipped a box was checked off and also specifying the exact documents requested (the CO wants photocopies of all of the visa pages on my passports.Ive only been issued 2 passports in my whole entire life). My fiancee has an appointment Janauary 21. So after the documents are presented what next? Im so scared I dont know what to expect. Anyone with experience/knowledge with this situation your replies will be greatly appreciaed

Nne like I said earlier, if anyone attacks any Nigerian on here again or makes any derogatory remarks it will not me on my watch. The worst they can do is use their so-called admin powers to remove my posts or block my ip address. People go thru enough stress going thru Lagos embassy without needing some cold-hearted people on here giving reminding them of that. If their only claim to power is vj, too bad.

I will be praying for you and I am sure your hubby will be fine when he takes in the evidence needed this week. Ogadicha nma. It is well. Stay Blessed.

Nwaoma,
Thank you soo soo much for your support and kind words and meaningful prayer wishes. You dont know how you uplift me with all your words of encouragement. I may have not been born in Nigeria, but my father is an IGBO man. And where my father is from is where Im from. Im very educated about my culture and I will defend our country to the fullest. Dalu. God Bless you

With all due respect, if anybody is bashing your culture it would be the Consular officer. There's a critical difference between criticizm offered about behavior that negatively impacts visa issuance and "culture bashing". Unmarried people submitting evidence in which they call themselves husband and wife, is a bad idea. Emphasis is on the mistake of submitting redacted communication evidence, not the culture.

My wife is Chinese. We called each other by the same Laogong and Laopo we do now, once we made the decision to marry but did not submit evidence to testify against ourselves. Of course in our case we took the spouse visa route but the husband/wife references began before the marriage just the same.

I don't think anybody is knocking your culture. We're saying the evidence you submitted is what is causing the bullet hole feeling in your feet/heart right now. There may also be other issues impacting your case status of which we are not aware.

Pushbrk,
Thanks for the reply. I agree and disagree with your post. I agree with your post to extent that calling each other husband wife on emails would be a problem. But we honestly didnt know that. If we had knew, Im sure the outcome of this case would have been a little different. I disagree with your post because I do feel indeed that most VJ members on this website do bash each others cultures. Like I said before, this visa journey is a long and difficult journey. I really feel as adults (Im presuming) that we be more considerate and sensitive when reply or advicing couples. No one in their right state of mind being in the situation Im in wants to hear "I told you so, How did you not know, Why did you do that" etc belittleing comments of such. Am I having a visa interview with another CO or a VJ member? That can lower ones intergrity and thats not fair. I hear time and time again Your dealing with the highest fraud consulate. Were not the only one. I really wish that people on this website can show more empathy towards fellow members. Nothing else is impacting my case status. What I posted is what really happened during the interview. I just feel if no one has any good advice or words of encouragement, then dont post a response. Its just that simple. We VJ members are hear on this website for the same purpose: to migrate and be with their loved ones and have a smooth visa journey so that the process will not be difficult.People need to be mindful of what they say to others. Its not what you say, its how you say it.

My son had a passport issued when he was less than a year old so what is wrong with a 2 year old having a passport ? It is the Nigerian norm to call your fiance husband/wife once the relationship gets to the point where the marriage is definitely going to happen. My husband had a girlfriend that he had gone though the bride pride ceremony and when she was killed in an auto accident before the marriage she was buried on his property not her parents. Officers are supposedly versed in the local customs and would know this. Both members of the couple are of Nigerian heritage and it is not at all surprising that they used husband/wife as terms of endearment.
This couple met in a third country and just because she has not been to the country of her parents does not mean they have not meant or that they don't have a valid relationship.

NigeriaorBust,
You dont know how much you uplift with your guidance and advice. Thank you so much for all of your support. It means so much to me from the bottom of my heart (I have tears in my eyes) :crying:

Nwanyioma, would you please clarify this statement ?
"No No. Im only 26 years old.LOL. I last visited Nigeria 1985 ."

You said you were last in Nigeria in 1985 and are only 26 years old. 1985 was 25 years ago - it is now 2010. Does this mean you were last in Nigeria as a baby? You have a passport with stamps from when you entered Nigeria as a baby? Are you sure you don't mean a different year than 1985? How old were you when you were last in Nigeria? How old were you when you had the passport showing your last entry to Nigeria? This is adding to the level of confusion about your case.

Hello Kathryn41,
I was born June 24,1983. I guess their is alot of confusion with my age. I last went to Nigeria 10/1985. I was only 2 years old then. The CO believes that we do have a bonafide relationship, but because we were addressing each other as husband and wife on the emails, she believes that we are married. In fact she believes that we got secretly married. I did send my most recent passport, she looked through the whole book and could not find any visa stamp entering/departing Nigeria. We are NOT MARRIED!!!!!! Im just so frustrated. So I had to FedEx my passport from when I was a baby to show evidence of when I last entered Nigeria.

Thanks Aniomaman for responding to Gary. Such brilliant response to his highly degrading post. If he has nothing to offer, he should best keep his comments to himself. He goes around posting such condescending posts all the time on Nigeria.

"Onye Ara" is an excellent description

@Nwanyioma.... Do send them all evidence requested. My prayers are with you.

Dise,
Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. I really need that right now. What she wants is my passport from when I was 2 years old to prove that I indeed visited Nigeria in 1985. The passport is expired. I sent it immediately priority via FedEx. When your desperate what can you do. That consulate is very very difficult. I cant wait for this visa journey to be over.Im tired.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionLagos Consulate Round 3!!! Fight!!!

Lagos is the highest fraud consulate in the world, it is in a class all by itself. Visa applications there are the most scrutinized of any. The problem is NOT that they call each other husband and wife, the problem is they tried to conceal this in emails. They were concealing what is (or could be) material evidence relating to a visa application in the highest fraud consulate in the world. Consulates do not need a reason to deny other than they don't feel right about something. In Lagos it is particularly hard to make them "feel right"

This is a self-inflicted denial and the OP is best advised to get married and try again without the silly games.

Hello Gary and Alla
Thanks so much for your kind advice. We take the blame for our carelessness.Honestly we got carried away with love. But nevertheless, we were given a 221 requiring for additional documents. All she wants is my old expired passport to see when I came to Nigeria

Hello VJ Members,
I know everyone has been anticipating my interview results. And guess what? We had the infamous Asian lady. According to my fiancee, he said that the interview went pretty good. He was called to her window. Before she proceded with the interview She said "Your fiancee the petitioner called the Senators office saying we had additional evidence. My fiancee gave her the call logs. She said "Wow" you guys talk everyday. He said Yes. Then she said lets talk. My fiancee then showed her pictures, she didnt say anything about those, then he showed the lease to the apartment that we are renting (I moved in January 9th.The original plan was for my fiancee to Arrive January 14 which is today). She asked him if I had family in Nigeria. He said Yes.Then she asked if my parents visit Nigeria often. He said Yes. Then she preceded and asked to see our emails. Now on the email, Me and my fiancee put alot of Your wife or your husband so he took a black marker and crossed them out. She asked "What is it that your omiting on these emails? He told the truth and said that we were addressing each other as husband and wife. She said then you two are married. He said no we are not. So they were going back and fourth, she even went as far as to show her supervisor the emails with the omissions. She stated that our relationship was really true I guess seeing all the calls (She compared my fiancee mobile number on the call log to the one the application). She continued and asked if we did a traditional introduction or engagement. He said No that Im busy that Im in nursing school. She was saying that American ladies dont address themselves as husband and wife if their not married. He then told her that my parents are igbo and I was born in the US, and we addressed each other in such a manner because we were madly in love. They then started to giggle and laugh with each other. I even sent my passport. She was like OH MY GOD. Can you believe that this petitoner sent her US Passport"? Thats what she was saying to other interviewers. Wow unbelieveable. He then told her that I sent my passport because we were desperate to be together. She kept pressing the issue on the omissions on the email. She asked when was the last time that I came to Nigeria? He said 1985. She then said you guys are truly a couple that why dont we file for k3 its much faster. My fiancee said no. That we are not married. She stated that she believes that we secretly got married in Nigeria. Then she started looking through my passport that I sent to see if I had actually visited Nigeria, and she was so dumb founded because she saw no visa stamps coming/leaving Nigeria. She had no evidence or proof that I came to Nigeria. She said ok. Well on a good day she can deny us because of omiting details on our email, saying thats fradulent. She said we have two options. We either go and file K3 or I scan all the pages of my enitre passport from when I last visited Nigeria. He told him that he schedule and can come back anytime that he wants with the additional documents. He asked is that all she needs and she said Yes. Documented on her computer and gave him letter requesting for additional documents. So when my fiancee called me at 9:30am my time, I immediately retrieved my old expired passport (For goodness sake it expired in 10/1990. I have nothing to hide, and enclosed is my visa stamps dated for 10/1985. I have nothing to hide. I FedEx it priority ($85.98) and I called Department of State to request transcipts of my passports issued to me on my name. The infamous Asian Lady kept our call logs and our emails. Im so tired of this run around. I strongly believe we would have been approved if not for those omissions on the emails. Not making any excuses but which right person that is in Love wouldnt do that? But what is there buisness? So my fiancee scheduled and interview for next week Thursaday January 21. Back to Lagos Consulate again. All this run around for the name of love. I dont mind because hes worth it. Hoping for the best.Im not discouraged.

Your expiration date is null and void at this time as soon as the Consulate starts processing. Do not worry about the experation date. It gets extended automatically when the process begins at the embassy. My experation date is 020210, his interview is 021610. So Relax. :star:

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionFinally visa approved at Lagos Consulate!!!!!!!!!!
Hello VJ Members,
Its my pleasure to announce to you all that my fiancee's visa has been approved at the Lagos Consulate. This visa journey has been tough. We overcame all odds. My fiancee returned to the consulate at 1pm. His number was called and he returned to the insane Asian CO who interviewed him the second time after we were initially denied the first time. She asked him if he had the documents that she requested, and he said yes and he presented it to her. She then asked When was the first time we saw each other, how long did we stay in Dubai, what i did last weekend? Then she started again to drill him on the emails that were omitted because we were calling each other husband and wife. He asked her "I thought we went over this already"? She continued by saying that American ladies dont address each other as husband and wife unless they are married and he told her that he doesnt consider me to be American since both of my parents are Nigerians. She then said that how does she know that we didnt get married in Dubai? He said that we didnt because Dubai is a muslim country. The Asian CO looked at my fiancee for about 5 seconds according to him, and she asked him if he had his passport. He said yes. Then she typed something on the computer and he gave him a yellow paper telling him that he should pick up his passport with his visa inside next week Tuesday March 2. I recommend everyone going through Lagos Consulate to pray hard and be very prepared and be ready to fight and defend your relationship. I would like to thank everyone who has helped and supported me through these trying times especially:
