sorry for this informal posting, i'm rushing for work but wanted to post before i forget any details.
got to the INS office around 8.20 am, waited for about 35 minutes. officer asked me to raise right hand to swear i will tell the truth, etc.
he asked the following:
1. my current address
2. have you taken any trips outside the u.s.
3. where do you work now
4. can i see your greencard

he took out a piece of paper and then asked me these:
1. how many stars are there in the flag
2. who is the president of the u.s. now
3. what is the most important right given to a u.s. citizen
4. what are the colors of the flag
5. who was the first president of the u.s.
6. who is commander in chief of the u.s. military
7. do you support the government of the u.s.

he then asked me to write: the boys brought home a newspaper. i also had to sign my application.

then he said congratulations, you passed. he said wait for the oath taking ceremony letter. and i know i bolted out there with smiles from ear to ear.

thanks guys for all your help!!! i will let you know when i get my letter!

Congratulations. We are right behind you

US Citizenship General DiscussionMy Interview
QUOTE (colinlieu @ May 15 2008, 10:35 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My appointment was at 10:45 in the morning and we arrived there around 10:30 ("we" being my husband and I). After about 20 minutes of waiting, an officer came and got me (my husband was not allowed in and the officer did not ask to see any documents from him, even though my citizenship is based on our marriage, just FYI)

I was asked to take an oath (that i would tell the truth blah blah blah). Then we went over my application basically. He asked me if my information was correct, address, phone number. Asked me if my marriage was still good (yes) and if I had any proof of that. We got a baby girl back in October, so he wrote that down, and then asked to see some tax returns from this year. That was enough for him to verify that our marriage was in good faith. Then he asked me the questions that were already on the N-400, you know "were you ever part of the communist party", that sort of thing. I did fail to file my state taxes one quarter back in 2006, by mistake, so he asked me for some documents that showed that I had paid what was due and that i did not owe any more taxes. Then I signed my application. The whole time he seemed to be doing a hundred things at a time, printing stuff, checking things in my file, typing stuff on his computer. The guy was really nice and professional by the way, I really liked him. Then he asked me to read a sentence, I think it was something like "My car is parked in the garage", then I had to write "I drive a blue car to work". Then came the civics test, and I was asked 10 questions (there were pre-printed on a sheet of paper, so I guess this is totally random, not up to the officer who interviews you) Here are the ones I got:

1- What is the legislative branch of our government?
2- Who is Chief justice of the Supreme Court?
3- What are some of the basic beliefs of the Declaration of Independence?
4- Who wrote the Star Spangled Banner?
5- What is the supreme law of the US?
6- What are the 2 major political parties in the US today?
7- In what month is the new president inaugurated?
8- Name 2 Senators from your State.
9- Where is the White House located?
10- What did the Emancipation Proclamation do?

Then my officer told me I aced my test (hurray!) and congratulated me. He told me that I was recommended for approval, gave me a document saying just that, and told me to wait for my letter with the information about the oath ceremony! I was so happy! I was out by 11:20.

Hope this helps you guys prepare. Good luck to you!

M.

Hi there everyone. I thought I would update my wife's status for everyone so those who are going through the same process can judge their own timeframes. We went through VSC with our local field office being in St. Alban's, Vermont. We just received her interview appointment notice today and she is scheduled for her interview on April 15, 2008 (which also happens to be my birthday so after we're going to celebrate kicking.gif !!!

12-20-2007 Submitted my wife N400 to VSC.
12-21-2007 UPS confirms that her application arrived.
01-03-2008 Check Cashed by USCIS.
01-10-2008 Received NOA Receipt Notice.
01-15-2008 Received NOA Biometric's Appointment Notice.
01-28-2008 Biometrics/fingerprints done.
02-20-2008 Received NOA Interview Appointment Notice.
04-15-2008 Naturalization Interview (wish us luck)

We can now see the light at the end of the immigration tunnel...yahoo!!!

Wow!!! That's so quick! I hope this means that the VSC is getting its act together... It's been over a week since our cheque was cashed so I'm hoping my NOA will make an appearance soon.

Congrats and good luck smile.gif

Not so fast blush.gif VSC only does the initial paperwork. After that it's your local office and how busy the are. The speed of VSC isn't helping a lot here. That's why it is important to fill in your Visa Journey time line. It is search able by local office and really helps track the progress.

kicking.gif kicking.gif And here I am to deliver my SUPER-DUPER good news!!!!! kicking.gif kicking.gif
Not only I passed my interview with flying colors (to use the IO's words lol) I have my Oath Scheduled at 3:00 pm THIS AFTERNOON!!!!!!!! kicking.gif kicking.gif Isn't that amazing?? When she told me the ceremony would be today I had to ask her to repeat it again because I thought my ears had just failed me tongue.gif I just came home for a bit, we'll drive there later on (the district office is only about 25 minutes drive)

Anyways...here's how it went. I arrived about 40 minutes prior my appointment's scheduled time, ended up being called over an hour later wacko.gif . My IO wasn't a born American because she had a really thick Spanish accent that actually made it a bit difficult to understand her when she was talking, also because she spoke very subtle too...but she was very friendly and nice so I'm not complaining! star_smile.gif She made me raise my right hand to swear I would be telling the truth, then she started asking for my passport, ID and green card. She then asked me "Have you taken your test Mrs?"...me--> helpsmilie.gif laughing.gif I wasn't sure what she meant by that so I asked "what test?", she said "I mean, have you been studying?" DUH! tongue.gif I panicked a bit because I was kinda nervous and thought that maybe I had forgotten to do something or whatever ...anyways..she proceeded to ask me the questions, I got lucky because they were really easy ones...I do not remember them all, only 5 out of 6 for some reason...
1.Who has the power to declare war?
2.When was the constitution written?
3.What colors are the stripes on our flag?
4.Where is the White House located?
5.What countries did we fight in WWII? (I was expecting this one since Italy is one of them tongue.gif )
6. I cannot remember this one...if I do I will post it later
Then I was asked to write "I have three children", she requested I write "3" both in word and figure.
She stopped telling me I passed the test, then she asked for the IRS tax transcripts.
Then she went over my N-400 form asking me all the YES/NO questions towards the end. She then asked for my personal info and all to see if I would match what was in the form. Then she updated my trips-outside-the-US list and enquired a bit about a long stay I had in Italy in 2007 (almost 6 months but for a week), she wrote down my explanation telling me they have to justify longer trips, then wrote down that I went to Italy again after I filed for the N-400. That was pretty much it. The last thing I had to do was of course to answer her question about whether or not I wanted to be a US Citizen and sign the form in front of her. That's when she handed me the paper about the ceremony at 3:00 pm today...which is also when my jaws dropped biggrin.gif
I probably forgot some details... tongue.gif BTW it sounds longer than it actually was...the whole thing was probably no longer than 15 minutes after I was called inside.
I suppose I was not that lucky with the waiting time for the interview, but I really was blessed to be able to do everything in one day...Baltimore rocks!! kicking.gif

Good luck to everyone who is still waiting, I might post later about the ceremony!

P.S.
For those who are interested, in Baltimore the spouse isn't allowed to be present at the interview.

Congrats! A few more days and we will be in Baltimore for the interview.

Just closing the loop.

Wifey applied for US Passport at the local courthouse on 17 April. She was very frustrated because, although the check was cashed on 29 April, she still did not show up on the passport status page.

On Saturday we got a little package with her nice blue US passport.

I would also note that she had been worried that the passport folks would damage her naturalization certificate. They did not, although the mailman did bend the package to fit it in the mailbox. Nothing a few days in an encyclopedia won't fix.

Congratulations

SUCCESSFUL INTERVIEW IN BALTIMORE!!!

Had an appointment for 2:20pm. Although it says in the letter not to show up more than 30 mins early, we showed up at 1:20. Turns out that they interview in blocks based on assigned interview time, but they do keep track of who comes in when during that block. So, we were still among the first called when they got to the 2:20 block. Of course, they didn't get to the 2:20 block until after 3.

As for the interview itself, wifey tells me that she was asked 6 of the civics questions, but not the full 10 because she got all 6 right. All 6 were straight out of the study guide. She was asked to write a short sentence. She was then asked several of the questions on the N-400 form, I guess to verify she gave the same answers. The interviewer looked at the tax records, but did not keep them. She did keep the copies of utility bills as proof of residence and cohabitation. All told, took about 10 minutes.

After the successful interview, we had to go to another waiting room. Waited about 30 mins to get called up to schedule oath ceremony. We are scheduled for 14 April, so not a very long wait, and I certainly don't mind an excuse to take a Monday afternoon off.

Biometrics done earlier today in Baltimore! kicking.gif The place was packed though, had 20 people ahead of me, so it took over an hour and a half but it was a breeze afterall. They gave me the book with the CD with the civic lessons about the US to prepare fore the interview. Now back to waiting. wacko.gif

My wife did her biometrics in Baltimore yesterday as well, got there over an hour early and was in and out fairly quickly. Someone told her that they were trying to get the interviews/oaths done as soon as they can so that the new citizens can vote in the Primaries. That means pretty quick, because the Maryland Primaries are February 12th. Study Hard, interview may be sooner than you think!

So much for Baltimore trying to speed things up...Today's the last day to register to vote for the primaries in MD...so that means they are definitely out of question for me since I didn't hear a sound from Baltimore... Not that it came as a shock anyway... wacko.gif

Man I wish this thread was more alive with more news to report... crying.gif

I went to the interview in Baltimore office. It all went well, I got aapproval letter and sent to the afternoon's oath ceramony. But just before the ceromony, one officer came and call my name and told me that I cannot take the oath because they found two A files for me, they need to consolidate the two files.

Does anyone have the same situation? How much longer we have wait for the result? is anything we can do to help them faster the process, such as request another A files from the USCIS Record Center?

Please post your experience and suggestions, it is greatly appreciated!
