And you are right I did ask so no harm.done at all.

Did you in your process receive a yellow letter before interview letter?

I expected to be done end of January based on other people timelines. My better half was done end of March, it took 5 months from the day the application was filed.

One last question how did you stick it out? I mean you must have been losing your cool each time or something?

Chet, at least you have done interview...Maybe it is because it is election year or something!

I agree with ChetT. Baltimore is much slower these days.

I noticed because I compared some people in Feb 2012 and I felt sorry for them like wow!!

Ouch...Jemmi, you make UMUC's day tougher by your response

I know I know, patience is really virtue BUT I am just curious IF any FILERS, preferably from 2011 till now, CAN and/or will share VJ.

I have read through 2 filers's journey on here, 2012 to be specific, who are a month before me.

I dont want to compare too much as their cases maybe different from mine OR might go faster than mine or something but just curious as to how long the process IS.

Thank you very much.

My friend got an interview letter today. He was asked to bring, amongst others, a verification to support the Selective Service System. He has the status letter from SSS dated back to December 2011.

Will this be a problem? Does it have to be recent? I was telling him that it wouldnt be a problem especially if they were to call SSS and inquire about it and still get the same answer that was on the letter.

US Citizenship General Discussionn400 Yellow Letter & interview letter
Put it this way, your attorney get the news before you do till you are done!

Not everyone gets the yellow letter. Some people get the interview letter straight up.

Some get the yellow letter first, then the actual letter and vice versa.

The yellow letter, as I have come to realize and learn over the course of filing n400, is just a formality.

I wouldnt worry about it at all.

P.S if you do get the yellow letter, allow 2 to 6 weeks before the arrival of the actual letter.

Well remember even though u have some criminal background. As long as u not convicted of any felonies. U could still be approved. Just bring the court paper and don't lie. Tell them exactly what happen. And I dt think u need to bring all 5 years. Cuz IRS can only give the tax transcript from 2008 . Food luck and come back share ur experience

Some offices are overloaded and it takes a long time to schedule due to the number of applications. Waiting is bad bad, I know it, but nothing to worry about though.
Name check is a check for all your criminal history that might trigger any red flags. If you are clean and no lies, then you are good to go.
I would search for members with similar time frames from the same office (back 2 months earlier than your filing date), and track down their progress. This will give you an idea about the speed your office operating at.
Don't forget, every case is different, but if your case is a normal one, you can take other normal cases to determine what you need.
Good luck, you r almost done.

Hey Presley one more question..

When they do background checks specifically for the employment section, do they check on the companies listed on your form?
UMUCMale02012-07-07 16:35:00
US Citizenship General DiscussionChicago DO N-400 - In line for Interview Scheduling >60 days

That's why they sent u only the yellow letter cuz the background check ain't done completely yet. When it's done that is when they will schedule you.

Give it a week u might get the interview letter.

Sometimes ur name check haven't come back yet. As soon as it comes back they woul send ur files to ur local uscis. And they will schedule ur interview.

Presley, what does that name check entail if you mind me asking? I was in line for scheduling for 22 days before my case got sent back to my local office

Well I am now a United States citizen. The fact I had only mentioned employment/address/trip history for the past three years wasn't even mentioned in the interview. I did include a brief letter in my original application stating that I only included the past three years as I am applying based on being continuously married to a US citizen for the past three years.

Good luck to everyone!

US Citizenship General DiscussionTranscript "copies"

Ha, to me its a question of dollars and cents, the numbers I have to spend in a salt mine with a hand pick deep under ground to earn those dollars and cents. Driver's license is only a four minute drive and 14 bucks for a new one, my birth certificate is five bucks. But having to pay a huge fortune and fill out long forms for a new certificate or a green card, well that is equivalent to them sticking me in jail for three months for what I have to do to earn that kind of money.

As far as being both careful and frugal, just about everything legal document here is now letter size, all of my wife's and stepdaughter documents are the legal size. I just shrunk those down to letter size and got away with it. Least I have a legal size scanner that can do that. Also have a commercial HP printer will real brass gears in it where I can add toner to the cartridge to get a lot more life out of it. Does a very neat job compared to these new all plastic ones. To save on paper and postage, printed everything double sided, so for my wife with the three year, instead of a 2" high stack, was only an inch high stack. Also when printed, selected two copies so made a complete duplicate just in case the first one mailed in got lost.

Always paid by personal check, printing out both the front and the rear of the check, gives proof the USCIS received and cashed it, that goes in the N-400 file. Scanned the biometrics, interview, and oath letters when they came in, marking the calendar and filing those documents in the N-400 file.

Feel because I made backup copies, USCIS knew that, so never lost the copies we sent in, but if I didn't, they would lose those for sure. Can you imagine all the work you would have to go through to duplicate that? Also figure since the USCIS always sends us very important documents first class mail, the cheapest, that is how I sent in all of our applications. Feel if you send overnight and make one of their guys sign for it, tees them off and tosses your application in a corner someplace.

First job having serving our military was working for the federal government as a civilian, entirely different. If you worked hard, took viable risk in the military, would get both honors and promotions. Did that the same working civil service, but when a promotion came around, promoted a lazy idiot ahead of me, the reason they gave me, was I could do the job, he couldn't, so got angry and quit going into the private sector where hard diligent work is still honored. Recently was talking with guys from the FAA, same story, the good guys get nothing, the idiots get promoted because they cannot do the work. USCIS seems the same exact way from observations. Some think the way to get ahead is to be a hardass, certainly met several of those, but you always have to be nice, that alone can kill you. Being nice to an idiot.

Not related at all to USCIS NickD but reading most of your comments, mostly helpful by the way, makes me laugh everytime :) :) :)

US Citizenship General DiscussionMissed my Oath Ceremony thanks to USPS!!!!

Scriber, you know what you could do? Same thing I did: call USCIS, listen to what they say (everything you already know LOL), then you say, may I talk to an ISO (Immigration Services Officer). This way the officer can access your information and you will know the exact date. In my opinion you have great chance to be scheduled same day as your mom. Then you say you didn't receive the letter and ask him if you can schedule an infopass. You can do it anyway, but I would talk to the officer first. You can call from 8am to 8pm, you still have time today. I'm not sure if Immigration officers are available at this time, but you could give it a try. If they are not, call tomorrow at 8am.

Good luck to you, have faith and keep track of it so you don't miss your ceremony. :)

FINALLY!!!!!!!! Congratulations to you guys!!!!

US Citizenship General DiscussionAbout Reading/Writng Test

I warmly recommend to check the study tools (flashcards, etc.)on the USCIS website. All 100 civics questions are there too. There should be a list of words as well. Every sentence that you get is a combination of those words. Honestly, I do not think that the level of education plays a significant role. I mean, if they ask a native English speaker from GB to read "Which state has the highest population?"...it cannot be that hard. :) However, there is certain standard that everybody has to achieve.
