US Citizenship General Discussion	N-400 FILERS - MARCH 2012	Haha, thanks UMUC, I wasn't trying to get away from writing the experience, I had to get back to work quickly so just updated the status y'day. Here is our experience at Charlotte, NC office. Our appointment was at 9:15am so we reached there at 8:30am (yah, too early). However, at security point, we were told to come back at 8:45am as they only let people in 30 minutes ahead of their interview time. Also, my husband is the applicant and I went with him as a side kick well, mainly to show that we're still married in case there are any issues. We went back again at 8:45am and went through security checkpoint (yes, same as airport security with scanners, take out shoes/belts/coins/etc). It was quick, only 2 people were in line ahead of us. From security checkpoint, were were sent to a Window 1 in some room. The lady took the interview letter and I am assuming, she checked us in or something. We were told to go wait in an Appointment room. By the time we got through security and checkin, it was 8:55am. My husband was called in at 9:20 for interview (only 5 minutes late, not bad). He said the IO was very quick in everything. She first started with civic test. He only remembered few questions: 1. What is the political party of the current president? 2. What are the two political parties in US? 3. What states border Canada? 4. Name two US holidays Then he was asked to read Who elects congress? and was told to write, People elects Congress... Then the IO quickly went over the application, we had one correction in there. My husband was out with 'approved' letter by 9:30am. The interview basically took 10 minutes. We were again asked to wait in the appointment room for oath letter. Around 10:10am, the lady came and gave us oath letter and we were done. One note to future Charlotte NC applicants, it's impossible to get anyone from any of the surrounding passport accepting facility to get hold of on phone. I personally went to one of the USPS office and she said everything was booked till 21st of August. I called 4 other places and left message at each of them and only 1 person replied so far. Luckily, we were able to get appointment to apply for passport on the same day as oath. So, if you're in a hurry, call them and make appointment as soon as you find out oath date. Yay, I passed my interview yesterday, Aug.8 at Orlando local Office. It was the shortest time I had in the USCIS throughout my visa journeyOur oath date was handed out to us immediately after the interview which is on the 16th of this month. Thank you so much Visa journey- it's a great community Congratulations to you. I had my interview and oath ceremony the same day as well Hi guys.... I PASSED my interview yesterday at Holtsville, NY. It was quick and easy. My question now is, how long to get the oath letter in the mail..... Tnx. Congratulations to you. I applied mine on July 6th at the local post office and received the passport on July 30th. Just my 2 cents..... Yeah I might travel in Sept...its not definite hence the expedite process! I remember filing a passport as first timer for my mom last year and we didn't pay any kind of expedite fee except the $140 for passport book and $25 for something else. I think her passport arrived in regular USPS envelope. Oh okay...because it, travel.state.gov, strongly suggested to use overnight delivery. US Citizenship General Discussion	N-400 FILERS - MARCH 2012	Alright, just as I promised to post It all started at 7am after I cleaned up and gathered all my documents for my 9.20am interview. My brother and I left the house at 7.15am and arrived in Bmore at 8.02am. There was a line already outside so we decided to go in We entered the interview room at 8.26am(yeah I know. I was super early ) and I began reviewing the 2012 US Citizenship App on my phone and praying as well since I am fasting for Ramadan. I wasnt called till 9.45am by a pretty young lady(she pronounced my name correctly like we knew each other something with a smile). We proceeded with the interview by her asking for my passport, GC, driver's license(she didnt ask for the yellow letter at all). She started with the yes and no questions, noting everything I said. She got to question 16 that asked about arrest, citation and stuff, which I answered NO to but alerted her of the fact that I was cited for speeding ticket but said it was not a problem since it wasnt DUI related. She got to the Selective Service System part and I already said NO on it. She asked if I did know about it and I honestly said I didnt know about until the time I wanted to register for grad school. She printed out a sworn statement and asked me to sign it, saying that I failed to register because I didnt know about it and also I gave her the status letter from SSS as well, which she kept with her since I have another one at home. She asked the six questions: 1) Where is the statue of liberty 2)Who is the governor of your state? 3)What did Martin Luther do? 4)Name two national holidays 5) Who is in charge of the executive branch? 6) Name one of your senators now After asking me those questions, she asked me to say "Who lived in the U.S first? and write "American Indians lived here first" She then asked me if I wanted to be a citizen today, to which I answered yes(was she kidding me?!). She told me to come back at 11.45am for the 12pm ceremony. I was done by 10.05am with the interview and had to wait till 11.45am. We were walked into a large room where we watched video and turned in our GC and received our certificate as well. We were also provided voting registration form and how to register. All the documents I took with me were never asked for at all BUT it was good I took them because you never know with these people and what will come up. I also was lucky for the fact that it was slow so there were not many people(I think there were like 60 people or so in my group, minus the babies that were crying) Hmm, thats it for the most part. I really do need to thank VJ for all the support, even though I was asking too many questions but I am one of those that dont mess with IRS and USCIS at all!!! US Citizenship General Discussion	N-400 FILERS - MARCH 2012	I had a successful interview this morning. My appointment was at 10.05am and I got there at 9:40am. I should have went there earlier as it is on first come first served basis. Anyway, long wait for me and the IO called me in around 11:10ish!!! She asked me the Yes/No questions going through my application: your name is.. you live on...,your husband is..., your work .., your phone number is.., you went out the country in such and such date, have you ever vote or register to vote... Then she said : I will now ask you the civics test questions: IO: Who vetoes Bills Me: the President IO: What is the supreme law of the land: Me: the constitution IO: What's the capital of your State? Me: Springfield IO: What do we show loyalty to when we say the Pledge of Allegiance: Me: The Unites Stated, IO: and...., Me: the flag IO: What's an amendment Me : it's a change to the constitution IO:Who did the US fought in WW II Me: Japan, Germany and Italy The IO asked me to write down: The White House is in Washington D. C., which I did. Then she said "you obviously passed the exam, we will scheduled you for Monday Aug 6th, is that OK?: (Me: *explicit* yeah ...well I didn't say that but you know... She handed me a piece of paper stating that I passed the interview and she was recommending me for approval. The whole thing must have lasted 20 min top. I went out and waited for a little more than an hour, then I got the Oath Ceremony letter and was out around 12.30pm She never asked to see any of the things/copies that I brought. I spend days stacking up paperwork and she didn't ask to see any of them... well I'm not really complaining. I was so ready to justify my extended stay out of the country and what not...(3 and then 5 consecutive months out of the country during the past 3 years) She had a huge file of paperwork on me from beginning of the time, it looked like. Some of the people who got their interviews earlier during the day will have their Oath this coming Friday. Don't take my word for it, but it looks like the earlier in the day you have your interview the sooner you get your Oath ceremony. What a journey!!! Thanks to all of you ... US Citizenship General Discussion	N-400 FILERS - MARCH 2012	as promised, here's N-400 interview experience last july 26th.. hubby and i arrived at the chicago USCIS office around 9:30am and there were almost a hundred people sitting at the waiting area. i checked in for the interview and gave me a pager number and asked us to wait near door 2. i was actually worried that we were going to wait a while since my number was 63. my number was called around 9:45am, i approached the IO at the door and he looked at me really weird so i said hi then i showed him my number. he said are you (looked at his list) then said my name.. i said, "yes sir". at that time i was getting confused because he was looking at me really weird like he doesn't believe that it was really me . there was a really awkward pause and the conversation was like.. IO : who's with you? me : my husband.. IO: where is he? me : right there (pointing at the back seat of the waiting area).. IO : which one? me: the one wearing blue in the very back.. IO : oh.. *pause* can you call him? he can come with you.. so i called my husband and introduced him to the IO. IO told us to enter the door and follow him to his office (long walk!). he pointed us to the seat but asked us to stand and swear before anything else. after that he introduced himself, ask our names, asked for IDs, my passport, etc. then he started asking questions. i felt really weird because he started asking questions to my husband. my husband and i were not expecting an ambush interview , LOL! it kinda felt like he was quizzing us because he even asked my husband to spell my name ! he was testing us to see if we were really married or still married. it din't really bother me because i was totally relaxed when my husband was there but i must say it reminded me of an AOS interview, which i dint have. of course, we aced it! good job to my husband too because he din't study or expect any of that. after asking us so many questions about our marriage/life, he finally started to ask questions about the info in my N-400 application. when he finished verifying info from the application he explained the civics test and proceeded with that. the questions were : - what is one promise you make when you become a united states citizen? - what movement tried to end racial discrimination? - who is the governor of your state? - where is the statue of liberty? - who is the first president? - name two national US holidays then i had to read the sentence "who lives in the white house?" out loud and write "the president lives in the white house". after that he asked us to give him a minute while he entered some info on his computer. he asked me if i had anything else with me that had both our names or address on it. i said "yes", opened my portfolio then started giving him all the documents i had. he was overwhelmed and rejected some of it including our recent pictures. i think i gave him more than 10 , LOL! he did a quick check of the documents and circled our names and addresses on it. the only documents that were left with me that i was expecting he would really ask for were the tax transcripts. i asked him about it and he said i already submitted tax returns so that's enough. he even made a joke that he couldn't put the fastener back on my file because it was so thick. he then made copies of my husband's ID and my IDs, passport, and GC. he saw my SS card while i was getting my IDs and also asked for it. when got back, he handed us everything back and went to my file again. this time i officially knew i was good because i saw him put the big @ss red stamp on the front page of my file that said "APPROVED" . he signed it and did something on his computer and then handed me the N-652 (naturalization interview results) that says "congratulations, your application has been recommended for approval!". he looked at his computer and told me that i was scheduled for august 1, 2012 for my oath ceremony and he asked me if i could make it. of course, my ears we're clapping from excitement so i said yes. he then said that's all for my appointment that day. he walked us to the door and asked us to wait about an hour because they were gonna give us the oath appointment letter. it was around 10:20am or so when we got out of the interview. while we're waiting, my husband and i realized that the oath appointment is next week and my husband will be in wisconsin for a business trip. (yes, we got too excited and din't look at our schedule! LOL!) we waited for the IO to come out to call someone else and then cornered him , LOL! we explained the situation and told him that i would like to reschedule my oath appointment. he asked for my husband's availability and my hubby said anytime after august 3rd. he told me that it's gonna be a later date (like could take weeks or 2 months even) because the schedule for august is pretty much done. i told him that's fine because i want my husband to be there with me . he smiled and asked us to wait while he took a look at my file. he came out carrying my file and told us he would make a note on my file to schedule us anytime after august 3rd. he said we already waited for almost an hour so if we wanna leave he can just have the oath appointment letter sent to our address. he then verified our address. we agreed to it as the office was really busy and we were starting to get hungry , LOL! overall, i'm happy with my experience and i'm not even that worried about the oath ceremony schedule right now as finishing the interview totally eased a lot of worries for me. i'm very grateful ! it's a feeling that you just got home from a long trip and just want to sleep everything off. i just wanna say thank you soooooooo much for all your help and useful information! good luck to those getting ready to have their interview and congratulations to everyone who has completed theirs! I sent my N-400 application taking advantage of the 90 days rule, based on 5 yrs rule with 5 yrs marks on 06/01/2012. Officially USC on 07/25/2012. Total 4 months and 20-ish days from start to finish, not bad. N-400 Interview: The IO was not rude or friendly, just straight to the point. Asked so so many questions even my previous marriage, my jobs, travel, traffic tickets (told everything was paid and taken care of. I have proof, she said no need). She got a copy of my Selective Service which I got from here. https://www.sss.gov/...rification.aspx I also bring everything related to USCIS from my previous marriage, ROC, and such. I would say, over-prepare is better guys. IO told me don't need to bring all these because you applied based on 5 yrs rule. She congrats me for passing the Civics and English tests.She asked me to wait outside for decision. I initially thought she would hand me oath letter, because I saw(red letter) to several people and even talked with people came before me. She handed me a letter, here is what it says " decision cannot be made at this time ". I was pissed I did not know what to say. Why cannot be made? what is the red flag ? nothing.... The next day I called USCIS Tier 2, and IO approved me later in the afternoon. After that all I have to do is waiting....but instead of doing that I keep calling USCIS Tier 2 almost every single day. I contacted my Senator, and U.S.Rep. After exactly 30 days, I got oath letter.FYI,this is not because of Senator or U.S.Rep because they have not put their hands on my request yet. Oath ceremony: At USCIS Sacramento Filed office. There were 2 oath on the same day. AT 1:30pm and 2:30pm(mine). You sit, they hand you a package contains oath ceremony program, history book, letter from the President, Declaration of Independent booklet, and Certificate holder/protector. ceremony program - Welcoming Message by Director of USCIS Sacramento Filed office. Guess what !!! She interviewed me for my wife application. Very very friendly and professional. She was the one advised me to apply 90 days ahead. - Faces of America (Video) - Oath of Allegiance by Director of USCIS Sacramento Filed office. - Pledge of Allegiance, I volunteered to lead. - Star Spangled Banner (Video) - President welcoming message (Video) - Closing remarks by Director of USCIS Sacramento Filed office. - Collect the Naturalization Certificate I observed that there are so many people wearing jean and really inappropriate outfit Nothing much at the oath.
