Thanx Devkpaik and Shawndoc-

Yea, I was going to wait till i get there on the 11th and see whats up.
My wife is the kind of gal that doesnt take any sh*t (at least from me:) ), I just didnt want to subject her to a bunch of morons and/or if we can even get in the building.
I'll make a post once I see whats going on first hand.

My wife and I talked about the Phuket airport blocking. WHen I asked her if she thought PAD would do something at BKK international, "wont happen. The army will go in at that point"......which I have to think so as well. I would think PAD knows this to, or they would have gone there already.....

Isn't it ironic these people call themselves an "alliance for democracy" when they've already helped overthrow one elected government and are working to overthrow their second? Thaksin wasn't clean, but at least he was elected. My girl in Isan says the PAD have been paying "protesters" to pack the bkk-bound buses.

Quick question for you guys.
So my fiance is flying from Bangkok to Incheon (korea) to seattle. She has an 8 hour layover in Korea. Just wondering, do they stamp her passport in Korea? As in like, I know for a US citizen we get like a 15 day visa on arrival or something like that, but for a Thai citizen, what do they do? Like, do they just tell her she can't leave the airport or something?

I guess my main question is, is she going to have problems at customs and immigration, or does she just show them her K-1 visa and tell them she's just flying through Korea on her way to Seattle for a K-1 visa?
Thanks guys

No, they won't. Not unless she leaves the airport. Incheon airport is modern and has all the conveniences. The layover is excruciating long, but she can find a row of benches to stretch out on.

We finished our interview a few hours ago and WE'RE APPROVED!!!! kicking.gif yes.gif To give you all an overview of the embassy experience... We got there at 6:45am and ended up being the last couple called up to interview. We were quite worried as when we got there and presented our documents the lady was giving us a hard time about a copy of one of her sons birth certificates vs. the original... the boy isn't coming over with this visa so we didn't think it was a problem having a copy of the BC and a copy of his passport, she insisted we needed the original and I insisted it shouldn't matter since he's not coming on this visa that we would present the original on the K-2 later in a couple years. She just told us to have a seat until her name was called, 11:30am her name was finally called, the longest near 5 hour wait I've ever endured... especially after her giving us a hard time, all I could think was there was gonna be an RFE which would screw up the travel plans I already made for her. The interview was about 15-20 mins... seemed like an eternity as I sat and listened to the interviewer question her. Pretty simple stuff, "where did you meet him? When did you meet him? How do you communicate and how often? How many times has he visited you? What were you doing when you met him? Was he on vacation at the time? How long did you spend together the first time you met? Has he visited again since? How many times and when? Do you plan to marry him in the US?" That's all the questions I recall them asking her, pretty easy stuff. Glad I was able to come to help present the documents early in the morning at least as that was really hectic, too bad I couldn't actually stand up there with her for the interview itself... but it all worked out well and he told us to come back on Friday the 18th at 3pm to pick up the visa and her passport, I nearly screamed and jumped out of my seat as I heard those words... "pick up your visa", but I restrained myself to a quiet "hell yeah!" and a little air punch. The lady who was doing the Thai translation for the interview looked at me and laughed a bit as I did that. That was a hell of a relief! They handed us all of our original documents and evidence short of the required forms and her passport (which I didn't think they would do) and sent us on our way with our appointment card to pick up the visa. We'll be here in Bangkok until the evening of the 21st, then we head to the states together finally!!!!! kicking.gif
Good luck to the rest of you! I will note to you all that of the other 7 fiancee visa applicants there with us, all were approved! Just to give you all some piece of mind. I know this because there is zero privacy in that place and you hear every conversation of every case going through the loudspeaker since they're behind glass. But it was good to hear everyone getting their visas even with a couple of us getting a slightly hard time up front about our documents(including one couple who didn't have the DS157 since they're lawyer forgot to give it to them). So don't stress too much since they seem to be willing to bend a bit if you present everything you can give them and then some and just have patience. Also note to those of you out there just getting started, I used no lawyer on this... so yes, you can do it yourself if you have a lot of patience to read things over and over again.

Chok Dii Krap!!

Steve & Bualai

Congrats! I'm glad to hear everything went (more or less) smoothly. I had the unfortunate experience of my Noi being denied a tourist visa there (once when I was with her, once on her own). But that was before I realized those visas are very hard to get -- especially for a poor farm girl. I really hope it goes this well for us with the K-1!

The secret address (not really). Just make sure the subject line is 1st IV INQUIRY, your BNK case # and your full name. You might not hear back until tomorrow but don't sweat it. They have been very nice to me even calling my fiancee to tell her how to make sure to do something.

This worked great. The regular email just got me no response, I resent the messages exactly the same to the "2" address, and got a reply back by 9AM Bangkok time.

But now I've got a problem and want some advice.

They received her packet 3 on June 16th. They've scheduled her for a August 1st interview. She hasn't done her police certificate yet and we were planning to do it on July 14th when I come to visit.

Am I correct that there isn't enough time between July 14th and August 1 to get the police report back? Do I need to have her fly to Bangkok ASAP to get the police report done?

Hey I'd be careful about the police report. Those idiots working at the police station there gave my fiance's paper to some other moron, and that moron who has my fiance's paper still hasn't brought the paper back to the police yet.
Basically, we're dealing with a bunch of morons who are incompetent.
I'd get it as soon as you can, although I guess it's uncommon for this to happen.

Does the report have to be dated within a certain time period of the packet 3? I just filed the I-129F to VSC, which I know will (hopefully) take about 90 days. Is there any reason my fiancee can't get police clearance now, just to make sure there's no last-minute SNAFU? What about the medical stuff? She has a copy translation of her "house book" already. Does she need an original? One more thing: there's apparently a paper that proves she's single (not married) that the CO will want to see. Can she get that now?

I think Chong Nonsi might be the closest. You can take a taxi/motosai from there.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFinally K1 petition approved
Hello VJ Family
Its me again and Im back.Im no longer lonely and frustrated as I was a couple a days ago. I was in class today and I received a text message saying that my case was update.Lord and behold it was my approval notice. What was so funny is that I called USCIS yesterday and as usual they were no help. I received my NOA1 June 9 2009 and got received my approval notice via email October 9 2009. Im sure it would have got approved earlier but I received a RFE because I forgot to check off part c question 3 asking if I was a criminal. Of course I left class to call my fiancee and we started yelling and screaming. I havent been able to sleep. Ive been crying so much lately as if I were mourning. I havent seen my fiancee since April 12 2009 since we left Dubai. Its so good to be in love. Visa journey family I sincerely want to thank each and one of you for expressing your experiences and for all the advice. Im on visa journey everyday. This site has impacted me so much. For those who are waiting for there loved one k1/k3 etc to be approved you are not alone. Your turn will come in due time. I love you all and again thank you

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow many pictures for my AOS?

Hello everyone! I am still working on my AOS and the Instructions on the I-485 state that I send 4 passport photographs total, but yet going by the other forms involved in the AOS like the i-130, I-765 and I-485, etc, it looks like I may need more passport photographs. can anyone please tell me if I need separate pictures from the ones required in form I-485(4) and others for EAD, I-130 etc.
Do I also need more than 1 original copy of my Marriage certificate for all the forms that require it or 1 is good for the whole AOS stuff? :crying:

Lucky couple,
Have you tried posting your question(s) on the Adjustment of Status forum? Im sure they will better assist with your question. All the Best.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRFE response time

Hi guys,

I sent back what VSC requested in the RFE and that was on July 15th. I called them a few days ago to see if they could tell me if they at least received what I had mailed to thwm. The guy couldn't tell me jackcrap. I swear these people know absoultely nothing and then simpy point you to their website. Anyways, he tells me 15days I should hear from them from the point at which I mailed it. I'm nervous I haven't gotten antyhing.

What has been anyone's experience with RFE rsponses after you mailed it to them? I searched this before on here and some people said only 11 days it took to hear from them? Should I keep calling them? It's frustrating because it seems like they just can't tell you a thing...

Papillonlover,
I received an rfe last year when I forgot to sign a page on the petition. About 2 weeks later, the petition was approved. Trust me, it should not be a problem.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 DENIED!! What next!?

Make sure you do not mention this at the second interview, if there is one. If this comes up, be sure to mention it's an "engagement ceremony"! Also call yourselves other endearing names, even fiance(e) in front of the officer, not husband/wife. This is a trap that many fall into and there have been cases of denial based on this only.

Subscribing to what everyone already said, your case was not denied...Keep calm and provide all the extra proofs they might need. Best of luck!

I totally agree with what Aleksa and Nico mentioned. If you or your fiancee mention/address each other as husband and wife, it will defintely stir up alot of problems. Me and my husband (he was my fiancee then) went through chaos at the Lagos embassy because we were addressing each other as husband and wife, and the CO believed that we were secretly married. We eventually got the visa but man its too much of a hassal to deal with. Please contact your states senator/congressman if you need additional assistance. All the Best.

Congratulations on your fiancees visa approval! I will definitely advice for you to WAIT for your fiancee to receive the visa in his hand before making any flight arrangements. My husband went to Victoria Island 3 times before he was able to receive his visa in hand. I see that you live in Maryland? I will definitely check out the prices differences to BWI, Washington-Dulles and Regan International.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFIANCEE DENIED K-1 IN LAGOS, NIGERIA

Ok thank you so much. This gives me hope. Do I have to speak to the congressman/senator or just anyone in their office? I will call first thing tomorrow morning. What would they need from me to do a congressional inquiry? Were you denied your k-1 at first and told the marriage was for immigration purpose because that is what they told my fiancee. Thank you so much Nwanyioma. Where there is life, there is hope.

When you contact your states senator/congressman, they should have an aide that will help with assisting them with the congressional inquiry. They will ask you a couple of questions like what your name is, your fiancee name, what was written on the 221g (visa denial notice) and etc. You may even have to fax them permission to do a congressional inquiry on you and your fiancee's behalf. Last year December 30,2009, my husband (he was my fiancee then) was denied saying that our marriage was for immigration purposes as well. I was devestated. That same day thats when I contacted my senator for help. 2 days later, the Lagos Consulate contacted my husband to reschedule an interview. Another couple was in the same position as I was in, contacted their senator and they too were granted a second interview. It really all depends. Dont be discouraged. Continue to fight. And with prayer, anything is possible. Take care.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFIANCEE DENIED K-1 IN LAGOS, NIGERIA

Yes we started about 6 years ago and were both very young. We talked about marriage then, but didn't want to rush and decided to wait. Since reconnecting, I could only afford to visit once this year considering being in Medical school.

Thank you so much. What exactly do I need to do to obtain help from my senator as you did?

Well first you need to find out who your state congressman/senator is. You can google that information. Contact them as soon as you can. Explain to them what happened at the consulate and ask them to do a congressional inquiry. If successful they could give you another interview date. At least thats what happened in my case. I hope that was helpful? All the best and goodluck.

Ireti,
So sorry for what you and your fiancee is going through. Lagos Consulate is a very very difficult consulate to obtain a visa from. I was once in your situation before sometime last year, and I know how you feel. My senator from the State of Maryland (Senator Benjamin Cardin), helped me quite a bit. See if you can get in contact with your states senator/congressman for more assistance. Please dont be discouraged. There is ALWAYS a solution to a solveable problem. Make sure that you are able to find a co-sponsor. I hope that everything works out for the best for you and your fiancee so you two can be reunited together soon. Take Care.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresChanging the embassy
I would check with the embassy before you put any request in writing. It could be a big hassle and delay things for you. I had to make a change in embassy and it set us back 2 months. Just because you put China down on the form, doesn't necessarily mean they will schedule your interview there. I have read about other couples who were assigned a different embassy for interview than the one indicated on the I-129; wait and see what they do. If you must change, you will probably have to have your fiance' make the request through the embassy in Russia, but check with the embassy to be sure...Good luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTracking the status of I129F?

So, great news, just received my NOA1!! Now I'm looking at other peoples timelines and see they know what their petition has been "touched"... How do I track this??

I've gone to the USCIS website and entered my reciept number, but it's saying my "case cannot be found at this time." Does it take a certain length of time before they put it in the computer?

You should be able to see it soon. We received our NOA1 on Dec 07, 2010. I believe it was showing on the status check in under a week. It seems to be a 4 or 5 month wait with the Vermont Service Center. Best of luck

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSpell Check

Hi, I'm Tabitha. I have found this website extremely helpful. I am at the very beginning stages of this process. It is terrifying.

Currently I am gathering my evidence that me and Joe have met. To my horror I have found that our hotel reciepts have his name spelled wrong and are using his middle name, which he goes by, and his mother's surname as his last name. Both of these names are in his full name but in the middle. I'm afraid this is going to complicate the process. I don't know how convincing a letter explaining the mistake will be. One other option is to call the hotel and see if it is possible for them to replicate the reciepts with the correct spelling. But if this is not possible how should I go about with this bump in the road?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Hello, i sent in my petition with a recipt from a hotel in Brasil that had my name all jacked up i included it and placed a post-it note next to it explaning what happened and that i thought it was funny and left it that way i think you should be fine as long as you have more proof of meeting togeasther like pics etc.. good luck to you

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPassport expiring question...
We are about to file the papers for the K1 visa. I just saw my g/f's passport and it will expire in June of 2010.

Do you recommend we try to get her a new passport immediately? I read the passport has to be valid for 6 months prior to entering the US. What would happen if we got the new one now and the interview happened to be in less than 6 months, any issues?

If the passport expires after she enters the US can she get it renewed from the Indonesian Embassy in the US?

We have to go to Singapore in March and i'm a bit worried if she gets a new passport now, then singapore might give us a problem with a new passport.

Thanks

Her father has an illness and would likely not travel that far. Mostly i think she wants to see where we live and know her daughter will be ok in the US. What i was suggesting was it would be nice for someone that has some experience raising kids to be there when we came home from the hospital after we were to have kids since neither of us have any such experience (it was just a thought and not really the main intention of the question). I'm just mostly curious about a short stay visit. Her family is considered to be doing pretty well for Indonesian standards with their store and house and what not.

Thanks.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAfter married, spouse's parents tourist visa question
Does it become any easier for my future spouse's parents or at least Mom come to visit the US after we're married and she is a permanent resident (or green card holder when the time comes)?

How about if we were to have kids and petition to come as a temporary asst. caretaker since my mom is deceased.

Thanks.

I can see where they may get extra questions because of it...but if it was just for a GC she would accept the first one wouldnt she?
