K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsThe Journey
Such is the nature of life itself and nothing at all in life is ever stressful, rather one's attitude toward it.

By changing the way that you see the world, the world that you see changes.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsMarch 2009 k-1 people
Just wanted to pop in and say "All the best" to your month. I am from October (the extra chatty group) and my fiancée and I just a few weeks away from the interview. It's been quite a wait thus far, and I promise that the most patient shall be better off for it.

Between now and then, may I suggest a few things:

1) maintain contact through phone calls, email, chat, Skype, letters, etc. and keep everything. This will be necessary when the interview come around to prove your ongoing relationship.

2) If at all possible, visit your fiancé(e) between the time you file and the interview. This also works toward proving your ongoing relationship.

3) Become familar with the next steps now, including practicing filling out the appropriate forms, so when NOA2 comes, you can hit the ground running. We did that and even then we had to wait a week or so to get everything together before having the interview scheduled.

4) Improve yourself. You really love your fiancé(e), so do something for them by learning their language or culture; learn a new hobby that the two of you can do together; learn to cook their favorite foods; learn to play an instrument. Doing this not only can be a romantic gesture, but makes the time go faster.

As I am sure many of you are already aware, VJ is an excellent community for support and resources. Before asking any questions, do a search or check the Guides of FAQ. The chances are that it's already been asked, so no need to spend time posting and waiting for replies, go find the answers. If your situation is unique, then feel free to post in the appropriate forum and others shall be more than happy to assist.

If I may be of any further assistance, don't hesitate to contact me personally.

Again I want to wish everyone the very best.

Safe journey

My wife brought two paper bags full of all of those items listed ranging over a four year period. She had snippets from a few dozen IM conversations, about the same number of emails: I even mailed back to her cards that she had sent me that were post marked.

In the end the interviewer didn't look at any of it! The entire interview lasted about 10 minutes and I believe the decision had been made prior to then. However, I still encourage an abundance of evidence.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI-134
In the Bangkok consulate's Packet 3 it specifically asks for

I-134 form completed
a copy of the petitioner's (US citizen's) passport
a letter from the employer
last year's (2008) tax return

That is all. You could have pay slips and previous two years ready as backup (as I have given to my fiancée to carry to the interview), but you do not need to send them in.

If you go under the East Asian forum, I posed a scanned copy of the Packet 3 letter there. You can see for yourself.

edit: I am a bit confused because rayman has K-1 listed in profile but this is posted in IR-1 /CR-1. I am only speaking for K-1, as the other visa may have different requirements.

I liked Japan Air Line (JAL) because at the time they allowed me to check 3 bags for no extra fee, while EVA, Northwest, etc. only allowed 2. Things may have changed, so please do find out, as others suggested.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresProper Presentation for Submitting I-129F
Just wondering for all those who have submitted, is it ok to put all the paperwork in a clear plastic sleeves within a binder? It would allow me to organize and index the documents, specifically the evidence of having met and ongoing relationship.

Any suggestions, recommendations or approvals of my idea would be most welcomed.

Thank you,

If you look at the top of the page you should see "Guides." Click on it and go to the K1 Visa Guide. There are examples of filled out paperwork there, as well as step-by-step what to do. It will help a lot. If you have any other questions, just ask here.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOngoing emails with I-129F in English?
I am almost ready to send my I-129F and I have included some emails too. My reason is that right in the k-1 guide and again on the example I-129F cover letter it lists evidence of ongoing relationship. Though perhaps not necessary, I do not see any harm whatsoever in including them, and they very well could help.

As the other posters have stated, they should be in English.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures1-134 Section 11 No need to fill in?
Thank you for the replies. A check of this site turned up this thread

http://www.visajourn...showtopic=49901

The consensus was to check "I do not intend" along with the information provided from the example on this site
"N/A ( K1 visa process for permanent residence )"

Sounds fine to me, just wanted to get corroboration from my peers.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures1-134 Section 11 No need to fill in?
Thank you for your reply. When she goes to be interviewed, will she need to prove that she can support herself e.g. bank statements? Or is the I-134 with supporting documents good enough to prove solvency?

I greatly appreciate the collective support of the entire group. This is like a 12-step group for loved ones around the globe.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures1-134 Section 11 No need to fill in?
On the I-134 Section 11 states:

" I intend / do not intend to make specific contributions to the support of the person(s) named in item 3. "

I do intend to support my fiancee until she is able to work.

In the Example Forms from this website it has filled in "N/A ( K1 visa process for permanent residence )"
though "I do not intend" is not checked off.

Should all K1 filers be checking off 'do not intend' or not?

Thanks for your assistance,

Pete

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHolidays!
QUOTE
you forgot to add that travel expenses almost double during this holiday season.its gonna hurt the pocket book

I do not understand the significance of this fact in relation to the OP's ? A look at the the K-1 Processing Timelines from this site show that historically last Winter saw the highest increase in processing times across the board. NVA approval to Consulate receiving the petition spiked in the sping of this year, otherwise last winter was the longest wait.

There was the rush of applications the prior year, creating systemic delays. However barring any further developments to expedite the process, this winter could be as long or longer than lasts (due to the exponential increase in applicants).

Dig in deep friends, it's going to be a long cold winter.

I filed last week and got a Feb 27 to March 14 window for adjudication. I noticed someone who filed around October 1st had a late Jan. adjudication. How accurate are we finding these estimates based on timelines to be?

All the best to everyone

I'm in a situation where my fiance and I have already completed all the documentation neccessary for the K-1 Visa and she has recieved it.

He has said that she has received the visa already. As several others have already stated, once she goes through Immigration it shall be stamped.

It should do no harm if Maldicion goes to visit her before she comes to America, as many couples will meet for the interview and/or to travel back together once the visa has been issued.

USCIS can take UP-TO 6 months to process an I-129F

Then it goes to NVC (about 1 week); then to the Embassy/Cosulate (about 2 weeks); you receive additional forms from the Embassy; you go for interview (about 4 weeks) . . .

If you send in Feb 2009, it might not be until September 2009 that you have your interview.

This story does not sound credible. As another noted, why would the fiancee go through all of the process (including signing an affidavit of support) only to turn away her fiance?

I am betting this is trolling. Anyone second that assessment?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA1 Date from when it is issued or received?
Though not a pressing question, I was wondering if most posters list NOA1 date in their timelines from the day it was issued (found on USCIS website) or the day the hard copy was received? I figured this affects the timeline averages whether one lists it 4-8 days earlier or later. .

Any consensus?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuick Question NOA 2 approved
You can begin preparing for the consulate interview by doing the following:

1) Get together all evidence that supports an ongoing relationship since the time you filed (March 2008 to present) and continue to collect any aditional evidence e.g. phone bills, emails up until your fiance gets Package 3 from the consulate. He will need to bring all of that evidence with him to his interview, which could be sometime within the next 4 months (Look at the processing times for Montreal on this site).

2) Get ready new letters of intent to marry, though no need to date them until you know the interview date (they should be dated close to the interview date).

3) Look over the I-134 Affidavit of Support form. Again this does not need to be completed until closer to the interview date, but to get an idea of what you are expected to produce would be good to know now. e.g. letter from employer, pay stubs, tax returns, etc.

I really like to have a solid understanding of the process before I even begin, however I understand that others are able to operate just fine on the 'need to know' basis. I also like to have everything done (for example fill out the entire I-134, except for date and signature) early, so when the time comes, just print, date and sign. But again I realize that it's just my style and other ways of operating are equally effective.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresA possible shortcut around all of this nonsense??????
Integrity always trumps expediency. Just because people apparently 'get away with it' sometimes does not mean they are free from the consequences of their choices. Every major faith has the believe that our current actions will have consequences that extend beyond our immediate lives. I am in concordance with those who say that the wait is worth the value of honesty.

People slip across America's border every single day, and some have even turned a blind eye toward it. This does not justify the argument that it's ok to do. I am proud to be working hard as an American, and to be able to even have the opportunity to bring my fiancee here is a privilege. With mitigating circumstances, I understand full well that the process may be prolonged, however I do accept that.

One's circumstances in life are largely out of one's immediate control. Yet how one chooses to respond to all situations is entirely a matter of person decision. I do not bemoan this process a moment. Speak to me in 5 months, 9 months and 5 years from now, and I can confidently state I won't then either.

Patience is a valuable ally.

Ditto, the Guide, Timelines of members and Processing times (for NOA1, NOA2, Consular Interivew) all have links at the top of this site.

And please fill in your own Timeline, which will help other VJ members assist you better by knowing details such as which USCIS office was the petition filed at (CA or VT?), from where does your fiance hail?, etc.

If you have any further questions, go back to step one and read the guides. If you still can't find, post your questions here.

All the best

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsRandom processing...
It's all about setting a customer's expectations. They give a specific timeframe of when you can expect the process to take. That way if it happens sooner then you are super excited! I agree  that they should send out a notification if your time is going to take longer than the original timeframe put forward. Also consider that there are times when they recieve very high volumes of immigraion petitions so naturally during those times it would take longer than during the times when it isn't soo busy. If they gave everyone a specific day, imagine the call volumes that they would recieve when that day came and went. Also, keep in mind that every single case is different. So if the person who submitted theirs a month after me gets theirs first, there is a good chance that their petition didn't hit any of hangups that mine has.

When I was wanting to check my status of my petiion using their online service I had recieved my NOA1 but it was constantly showing that my case didn't exist. I called and talked to their customer service and the gentleman I talked to explained to me that sometimes it takes a good month or so for thier system to catch up with the process. In other words, their system that you check online is updated every day. He was almost right on the button. Nearly a month after recieving my NOA1 my petition finally showed up in the system as "Accepted". So although convienient, it's certainly not reliable.

Now if I end up waiting longer than 30 days past my expected NOA2 date....you best belive I will become a thorn in thier side until I understand why. :bonk:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsUSCIS website to check your petition status
Hi All -

I don't know if this is more of just a venting thread but sometimes it helps to know that others feel your pain. Misery loves Company or something like that.

So here goes:

I submitted my K-1 Visa petition to the USCIS at the end of May. (Yes I know only 2 months ago but hey that's two months in the past right :) ) This site has basically been my lifeline to try to keep in touch with my petition and to learn of where it is in the process. BUT it is still showing as "Accepted". It doesn't show in the "Initial Review" status or anything like that. Each day I sign in to My Acoount and I close my eyes and pray for a status update as I hit enter to veiw my case and each day I still see that stupid blue dot showing "Accepted". I have called once or twice and each time they tell me EXACTLY word for word what the website says.:wow: Seriously, I am not that stupid. So then they ask me if the funds have come out of my account to pay for the petition and I provide them the date and amount and they always answer that my petition began processing on the date to funds were taken out of my account. OK?! Umm so why not update the website? Or am I missing something? Is there another place that I am not aware of to get a little more informaitno on my case?

Curous what experience others have had with the site and getting a status update of any kind.

It seems to me that they put that capability on the site to help inform us without making us initiate a call to them. BUT if they don't keep the info updated then of course we are going to call which then makes the website irrelevant. :bonk:

Hope you don't mind my venting.,Super frustrated.
Kim

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWhere's the Happiness???

Look I understand that all of you want to be happy and positive, but this does not keep me entertained, nor does it allow me to provide you feedback as to how you can correct you problem.

You have to understand that human beings need to feel that their life is better than someone else’s, or they start to get depressed. Also going on how you love him or he loves you and all that ####### is really not that interesting. Please give me some drama or comedy, maybe some action. Life is not a fairy tale, its a struggle.

If you are going to tell me about your life tell me what you are going through. Some of you say you gained 18 pounds. Wow that’s a lot!!! How has this affected your relationship, health and so on.

If you’re in AOS, how has this changed your life? Your spouse is currently not working and being totally dependent you, how does that feel. If you are a women, do you feel subservient since you are staying home, or if you come from a country with little or no women’s rights, have you found the new gained freedoms refreshing. If you are a man how has this changed your masculinity, have you become the super dad, that wakes up in the morning makes your wife coffee, takes care of the kids, and then cooks dinner for her when she comes home from work.

In the restrictions lift or citizen process phase, tell me how you or your spouse relationship changed from start to now. Are the culture differences still there? How has the house dynamics changed, what new issues do you face.

In the end give me the drama, and the pain and leave the fantasy out. I need that 5 min of entertainment during work.

Hello AMP! I agree with you Life is definately a struggle. Everyone has their aches and pains if we didn't we wouldn't be able to grow and learn. BUT I thougth it would be nice to just take a few moments and focus on the happy side of why we all decided to embark on a Visa Journey. I find that each day I get so wrapped around not getting my NOA2 and being completely depressed about that so I down a gallon of chocolate ice cream in an attempt to make my pain go away even for just one second. Being able to count your blessings can really help you refocus and look at the journey in another light even if it lasts only until you complete your list of 10 things. You reflected for a moment and maybe even smiled. That is all I was hoping for.

and yes we could also share our "drama" in fact, I find that is what is mostly talked about here. And in talking about that "drama" we also get encouragement and assistance. So being thankful and listing your top 10 or being frustrated, sad and angry, either way.....we are all in similar situations.

BTW that's a great 10! :)
