Hello All,

Not sure if this is the right thread to say hello in, but HELLO anyway...

I'm a bit new to the site and after lurking around for a while, this thread seems like the best of all. I'm currently dating a guy that lives in Jamaica and will be filing really soon. I may have some questions since the process is new to me, so I hope I can get some good advice from some of you.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Jonesie is fine and resting at home. She is still having contractions, but they have slowed down considerably.

I didn't get granted a divorce today. The judge wants to see my ex in court. He is illegal, and barely accepts my calls because I filed for the divorce. The judge stated that they will serve him notice at his last known address. We can't get scheduled for the trial calendar until after the first of the year. If he doesn't show up, the judge will hold him in contempt and grant my divorce. I know it seems like a small delay, but in my heart it is huge.

I'm hurting right now because I have to cancel my trip to Jamaica that was scheduled for 12/30 to 1/12. I'm hurting because I have been wanting this divorce for the last three years, and I can't get it. I'm hurting because I can't be with Aron. I can't file paperwork, I'm just stuck here all alone in pain. I don't have a timeline, a countdown, nothing to look forward to regarding my future. I have an albatross hanging on my neck, draining me for everything I have.

I give up. My journey is over. I don't have the heart or strength to go through all of this anymore. I will face the fact that maybe Aron and I really aren't meant to be.

Jawi.

Jawi,

hang in there and never stop going after something you want. The days are moving faster than you think. The new year is just about here.

I went to Greece in April last year and it was awesome. We flew into Athens for a few days; took a ferry to the island of Mykonos and then flew to Santorini. It was the best trip ever. Well , besides the trip to JA when I met Ray. laughing.gif

I also went to St. Marteen in Nov and it was a really nice place too. We stayed on the Dutch side and had a blast. The island is beautiful and you can take a ferry to St. Bart where all the Celebs go.

Morning Sunny & sus...I see we're up early.

Sunny, Spirit had some cheap cheap flights outta Ft. Lauderdale - I would just be prepared for problems with that airline - IT would have to be a true bargain for me to fly them to JA again.

This is the reason why I didn't use my ticket when I flew to JA last month. I might have to do a long weekend trip and just take a carry-on. After the 3 1/2hr delay with AJ last month I may swim to JA next time laughing.gif . lol

Girl, be glad yours was only 3 1/2 hours on AJ. I use to go to Jamaica for spring break all the time, but since 2000 I don't know what the hell happened. Flight was suppose to leave Baltimore at 8:35...we didn't leave until 4:40pm. First they had us on the plane, then we had to get off at like 9:15. Girl it was a mess. People started to cuss. Then people started to demand to get off. I think it was something about a smoke dector. You know on December 22, they flight didn't leave Baltimore unti 10:45pm... I heard people at Mobay that came to pick up their families were cussing. The delays were from NY also.

I have never had more than a 30min delay with Air Jamaica since I've been going to JA. I guess it was my time. lol They need to have more flights that leave out of BWI. That one flight a day is crazy. I wonder what the employee's so after that one flight leaves. Seems like a waste of a day if you ask me.

Kimmy,

That's what I do now. Mi pay $1500 fi di chip and di guy unlock di phone. Verizon don't use chip, but my Verion phone works anywhere in Jamaica. I've never had a problem. I just cna't deal the ROAMING. So I brought an AT&T phone to use while I'm in Jamaica.

yup..when u look pon u blasted bill wid roaming ####### u can buy one next plane ticket tuh baxide

You can get the Verizon phones unlocked in JA, but they can only be used for Cable & Wireless/B-Mobile or Miphone which is probably cheaper than paying for romaing. The LG Chocolate phone that we unlocked had to be used with B-Mobile and not Digicel.

That's true JaEnglish, Ebay would not be a good source to use from JA. When I was in Target on black friday, there was this JA guy that was running around with the shopping cart buying all the dvd players that were on sale for $25. He must of had about 30 in his basket. I said you must be sending them home and he was like yes I am. lol Now I wonder how he was going to do that. Unless he had a hook up through customs, it's wasn't worth it.

Sunny,

We if you have the hook up that's the only way or CUSTOMS will slam you. I think another way around that is if you're moving home and shipping a container. My aunt send her entire household from queens that way and her cars. I'm telling you, some Jamaican don't throw away anything. I just sat there and watch the poor movers. Some of the furniture whe was taking home was from the early 70s. Sometime it's better to just by things out there. We're blessed ot have a aunt in FL that has a shipping business, so, sometimes we go that route. My dad is retiring in 2 years and he has already started to send thing down. CUSTOMS is a PAIN IN THE a$$.

I've brought home DVD players in my suitcase. Laptops,. I've not been so lucky now. I always get this awful woman who send me to go get inspected and she stands there like a DAMN hound dog. Thanksgiving last year I went down for a wedding and they took every damn thing out my suitcase. I was not happy. So, I had to make up noise and ask for a supervisor. She had my things falling on the floor. She let my bridesmaid dress hit the floor. CUSTOMER SERVICE stunk 100%...supervisor had her and another person put the things back in my suitcase. They were all over the place. I was so embrassed.

I wanted to ship a barrel, but I can't find any place here that does that. Do you know of any company here that ship barrels to JA.

Sunny --

My brother just asked the same thing. He's in Phili but he'll be back in town Monday. I'll ask him who he used. Be warned. Whoever you sending it to, CUSTOMS, CUSTOMS, CUSTOMS...

I know Lawny, I'm just curious.

Okay. Got to look for for a sitah. I'll check with my brother on Monday. Don't let me forget. My mind is so overwhelmed right now. The last time I shipped something by barrell they dropped it off, you pack it and they come and pick it up. I don't know if they still do that kind of service, but I'll check

Okay, I'll remind you if I have to... Thanks a bunch

I am going to St Lucia in April for a couple weeks - I wish the rest would go as fast and I could be there for an interview and take him home with me!!!

So I pray you all have good news and happy days in your neck of the woods!!!

Irie,

Congrats Irie, wonderful news..... We were just talking about how VSC has been working pretty fast. Hope you had a great time in DC. I work in DC and it's been really cold and windy lately. Today is a little better, but next week it's suppose to get into the 60's.

That's so true Lawny, we could have done that!!!! kicking.gif

Yeah sometimes folks in JA are sooo greedy that there prices make no sense. Those unlocking devices cost one standard fee, so to unlock any type of phone shouldnt make a difference.

When I went into the Digicel store in Ochi, I was totally amazed at the prices for some of the most simple looking phones. I could really make a killing there if I took some phones over. The iphone is going for over $700 there and Ray said they are really selling. Here they are only $399. It's awful.

Yes, it was the LG Shine and we went to several different places. One guy said $100US but unlocked the LG Chocolate for $2000JD and the other guy's didn't have the code for the LG Shine.....

I just noticed you can order the unlock codes on ebay for little or nothing, so next time I'll try that.

I recently took a phone down 2/14 for my fiance and because it was a new model, they wanted to charge us $100US to unlock it. I raised hell in JA and ended up bringing it back home with me. I had it unlocked here for $30 and I'm sending it back with a friend that's leaving for Ochi tomorrow. That was a total rip off.

I have never heard of this, and I have NEVER encountered this problem...and I have been going down there every 2 or 3 months for the last 3 years! Every time I would go, I would say I was visiting my boyfriend/fiance, and it was never a problem. They would ask me where and I would give his address, and they'd just say "enjoy your stay." And now that I say I'm staying with my husband, I guess there's no reason to question anything...That definitely is strange though.

Maybe it's because she cussed on the immigration officers out on her second trip down, I don't know. It sounds crazy to me.

Okay. I work in NW near Pennsylvania Avenue (near Georgetown). I have alot of friends in Bowie, but they say I life in the bonedocks...i'm just on the other end of the miserable beltway. The Colesville area has gotten expensive in the last 5 years. And I think they're going to rebuild other parts of in the next year. For everyone that is NORTH of DC, we will send you some SUNSHINE on Monday. good.gif

I have a friend that lives off University Blvd and I was just there last weekend. That's nowhere from Bowie and maybe that's because I drive any and everywhere... I love the Georgetown area. I went to High School in Dupont Circle and use to walk to Georgetown to hang out. It was a long walk. lol

I think JA takes a little longer than any other other country. I wonder why??? You'll have it in no time from the look at things.

I used to think that too Sunny...but when you look at some of the sub-saharan African countries...mi feel APPY dat I dealing wid Jamaica!

I think it's mainly dependent upon the staff at it Embassy processing visas...at least that what the JA's Ambassador's Assistant told me when I asked that same question!

It makes sense...if you check out European countries and som Asian countries with large staffs...they get through in NO time. Plus, it the culture of the country. Unfortunately, every dyam ting inna JA is slow...including the mail system to get theie packets!! The Ambassador's assistant said they have to make accomodations for that also!

Bless,
Gill

Yes, your probably right Gill. There are a few countries that have a longer wait. I'm glad things are finally moves at a normal pace and hope they stay that way. I have a long ways to go because I haven't even mailed my packet yet, but it soon come....

yes.gif Ramen noodles are good for so many things! For only $0.14 a pack you can't go wrong no0pb.gif

I agree they are really good. I love the chili flavor which is so hard to find. The one negative is that they are VERY HIGH in sodium.

I like that site too. JALove if your hair has a tendancy to get dry I would suggest leaving in conditioner...not the leave in kind...and using it mutliple time a week, while your hair is natural. I like Motions. This will intensely soften your hair. After awhile you'll notice a difference and not need to condition it as much. Also use an oil mositurizer. The kind that has the same texture of lotion or conditioner...I use Motions which is pink just like Lusters famsous brand but just not as thick and I don't like the Lusters smell. This should help with your dryness.

it was only in that one spot i dunno why lik the very back middle close to the top. it normally curls up when wet but that part gave me drama!!! my hair is damage so maybe cut off start fresh is a great idea. I love motions conditioner and also i want to say its called diez Y uno lol dont quote me!!! they use that in the dominican shops i like that too. Im going to get some more motions. I miss MD for the hair stylist my hair always was right! its not the same here sad.gif but my guy does pretty good he cuts well and works wonders with the flat iron so it comes out super straigh if u have a perm or not. Hes a rasta and jamaican. Why does everyone assume he is gay! all men that do hair arent gay smile.gif im supposed to go tomorrow but i twisted my hair and really dont feel like sitting but i do need a good trim i havent been since october

JAH'LOVE my hair was in my back and because of stress and other issues I chopped it off. It was breaking alot and that was the best thing to do. I cut in in December to my ears and it's now grown down my chin. Don't know what it is in out family, but our hair grows like grass then it stops once it gets 1/2 way past our shoulders. Before I was stressed out and all that I went to the DOMICAN SHOPS and they took excellent care of my hair. $25.00 wash and set and blow-dry. I would go 7:30am on Saturday mornigs and be out of there by 9am. Best thing...NO APPOINTMENTS necessary. I loved it. Only thing I see with them, they don't really know how to style short hair.

Where is the Dominican shop Trelawny20853? I'm in MD and want to try them out one day...

Youre in bmore right? there is one on Baltimore st over east and then there is one right on reisterstown road past barefeet shoes called Top Dominican Salon. They have just started coming to the area

No Jalove, I'm in Bowie.... But, I can drive to Baltimore though.... lol

I'm in Bowie, so Silver Spring is not that far. I use to work off Colesville Rd. lol
