Good morning Ladies..

Okay... i have yet another question rolleyes.gif ( i apologize in advance...LOL) this is more so for the veterans.... Me and D, were talking last night and still planning on moving forward with having a nonlegal ceremony in JA. One thing i have noticed, is it seems that i am so caught up in the day to day, the process, the visits back and forth to JA, etc... that i hadnt actually stopped to think about how drastically my life will change once he is here. I have been single now for maybe 5 years, and lived on my own with my sons, i come and go as i please, am used to being in my own space and not having to answer to anyone. I love my SO with all my heart, and cant wait for the day we are together, but i guess my concern is, not only me getting acclimated to living with someone again, but also helping him to make the transition. For those of you who are married, or have lived with your SO's for even 6 months at a time...How hard was the transition???

I just woke up this morning, thinking about it and found myself getting somewhat anxious...LOL

The first week or so is pure heaven. All your dreams came true. Then, reality sets in and you realize it's a big adjustment. Remember how your life used to pretty much stop when you went to visit him, yet his seemed to continue in the day to day sameness? It's reverse when he comes. You still have to work, take care of the kids, the house, the car...............He is pretty much free to do anything and not sure what to do first.

The thing is, it will come at you day to day, so it's not like you have to really think it out. You just deal with it as it comes. Lots of patience, lots of compromise, lots of communication.

It takes a little while to get into a grove. Sometimes we still have to deal on occassion.

You can do this. Always remember WHY you are doing it. Whenever I get so mad at Andre that I could spit, I remind myself that I used to have to argue with him over a phone line 1500 miles apart. That thought always keeps me grounded.

I beg to differ, Shell............inches taller then me, skinny, with small feet have it going on too!

I hear you girl... I'm just speaking of my own experiences and I said short, big and big belly. Sometimes when men have a big belly, it takes away from the goody area. Andre is not fat and does not have a gut.... LOL I can say this, I haven't been with all the men in the world but that's what I've seen so far.... Just my opinion. Ok, enough of this kinda talk. I'm missing Ray. sad.gif crying.gif

I've dated big guy's that are short and they DO fit in that description. lol And don't let him have a belly, because then it's really over. I haven't been with all men, but that's been my experience.

Tall, big feet, and slim normally have it going on. That's just my take on it...lol

Okay, this is for you ladies in the DC/Maryland/Virgina area.... i just read an article in the paper about some new pedicure being offered with fish. It is offered at Yvonne's hair and nail spa, i believe in Alexandria, Va, where you dip your feet into a tank full of baby carp and they nibble the dead skin off of your feet!!!! UUUGHHHH... there are women quoted in the article as saying " this is the best pedicure i ever had, the little fish kind of tickle"....WTH? i swear there is no limit to the retardedness of americans, if someone can come up with or invent it, there is always someone out there to try it.... sheesh...i need to start working on how to get rich.

Roxie,
Your wedding style sounds very much like mine. We married in JA almost a year ago and it was THE BEST day ever! I know many people say that the wedding does not make the marriage (I used to say that too), but its still an important aspect of your union. Of course if you are not following a relious faith the wedding may not have the religious meaning to you and be more of just a celebration or party. For me and my husband the ceremony was very sacred to us and I could not imagine not having that ceremony with all his family and my family there to bless the union. I'm the type of person who has her mother come bless the house you move into by placing blessed oil all over the walls. My mom use to pray for us before school and finger a cross on our foreheads with blessed oil. I'd go to school with an oily forhead rofl.gif .Anyway, My husband did most of the work on planning our wedding too since it was in his part of town. His family helped out with everything. So it really wasnt that expensive for me. I didnt go into debt an once the wedding was done there were no residual bills. It is possible to have your ceremony there for cheap. Its just the way that you look at it.

Lita;

My grandmother did the same thing to my brother and I...plus 3 times a week we had to drink garlic tea (none of the kids would come near us) to clean out our system. As a child my brother and I were never sick and I mean NEVER.

Haha! Yea my mom is funny. Man, I would have a big oily forehead and the oil would be dripping down to my nose. And you dare not wipe it off, less you wipe away your blessing. My mom tried to start giving us spoons of fish oil to keep us healthy but that couldnt work for me cause I would gag it soon as it hit my tongue...YUKKK!!

Welome back, Lita!

Lita and Tre -- That sounds like my dad. He would give me cod liver oil to keep us healthy. He even tried to get the cherry flavored kind when I kept complaining about the taste. Cherry flavored cod liver oil --- makes me gag just thinking about it. And my grandmother would boil lemon, garlic, onion and honey together and make us drink it as soon as she heard any sign of a sniffle. It was nasty as heck, but it worked -- cold would be gone by the next day or two, but no one wanted to come near you caused you reeked!

Cod liver Oil!! Yup! Thats what it was. I literally threw it right back up as soon as it hit the back of my throat!

Yuck Lita..... I tried that before when I was younger and it's awful.

Not to pick on you one bit, Wakey, just quoting your post........but, I have something to say about this who going back to renew business.

I know you guys want to go back and celebrate with the family. And, I truly understand why. I was there.

I want to point out a few cons in your planning.......

It will cost you 2 round trip plane tickets. More if you have kids.
It will cost you somewhere to stay if you don't say with family.
It will cost you ALL the costs of how big or small your wedding may be....seriously think about that.
He will either not be working or, if you are lucky, just started a job and may not be allowed the time off.

Visiting him now is expensive. That trip would be very expensive.

Remember all that when you are talking about going back to renew. It seems like such an easy thing to do. For us, when we thought of all that really went with it. Well, it was too much on my fianances at the time.

I say all the time...the wedding does not make the marriage....

When I went to Jamanica to get married, I had no idea how my wedding was going to turm out. Let me explain.

My now husband was task with all of the planning for the wedding. the only thing I was tasked with was showing up and inviting whomever I wanted to invite from the States. My wedding took place on 2/27/2008. That date fell on a Wednesday. My husband talked to the pastor of the church, obtained the marriage license and his friends and family put on the reception.

Our marriage vows took place in a very old church in Kingston. There were less than 20 people invited to the wedding. I was married in a cream yellow strapless short gown. I purchased it from Davids Bridal, but I had it cut off above the knee. I wanted to show my sexy leggs.(vain) My husband still laugh about this when I explains its to him. My maid of honor was my brother-in-laws girlfriend, from the states. I didn't asked my girlfriend, because she had just come off of a cruise, and I didn't want to put any hardship on her. Note: to this day she is still mad at me for this. My wedding was small but romantic. Now the reception was one big party that was put on by his friends in the commnunity. We didn't share in the expense of this, so over all my wedding cost me the price of a trip to Jamaica. I am saying all of this to say you can still have your dream wedding in Jamaica, it doesnt have to cost a fortune. Note: my father has agreed to sponsor a reception for us when Joe arrives here in the States. This will be his formal introduction to my side of the family. So I see this a s a win win situation for all.

JG, Once again Happy Birthday...I hope it's a good one! wink.gif (fingers crossed for you)!

Guys,

I have to say I had a WONDERFUL weekend! Ms. Hotlegz had her 'surprise' Baby shower this weekend and Ken and I met Mr. & Mrs. Jengy, Mr. & Mrs. Marcel (Lawny) and Kimmy & Kashi of course!

It was so nice actually meeting people that you spend so much time getting to know! We had such a good time! Ken couldn't believe they were all from meeting via the internet. My hubby USED to think everyone pon deh internet was a child predator!! wacko.gif (too much Dateline fuh his ras laughing.gif)

Marcel, Missa Jengy & Ken got along so well! And of course Lawny, Jengy & I kept ourselves entertained til the Mama of Honor made her appearance. Everyone looked Beautiful!! We got along like we had known each other for years!

Kimmy looked BEAUTIFUL...(pregnancy agrees wid you Hottie tongue.gif )

Unfortunately, Ken and I had to leave early for some BS Graduation party back out on the Island! Jengy told me not to leave ...and she was right! sad.gif But it was still good to met a few members... looking forward to linking up again and meeting more! good.gif

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Bless,
Gill

P.S.- I saw a sneak preview of Lawny's wedding pics and she looked STUNNING!!! Hopefully she'll post them soon! I'll post the few shower pics I have later when I get back home!

fi real,

Kimmy is skinny for a pregnant person, I jealous bad bad. I will not go over what Gill wrote on the wisdom of her going on I-95 on a Saturday evening whistling.gif and next time Lawny let Marcel party kicking.gif

GOWEH Jengs; (wid u young self);

OMG...Gill and Jengs absolutely GEROGEOUS ladies and it seems like we've know each other for years. Jengs let Marcel party...please he fell asleep as soon as we got into the car. I told you we had to leave at 6 am...I got up at 5am took a shower, got dressed and took everything to the car...Marcel woke up and was in a PANIC...I hid his clothes and shoes in the closet and left his cell phone on the nightstand...he calls me and I'm like I'm in Maryland. Haaaaaaaa I know (I'm terrible)..but he loves me.

that is just evil, mr jengs fell asleep in the car also, dem come in like babies, lol

Y'all must be reading my mind today, i was just talking to my friend about this same subject earlier. I really have my heart on getting married in JA, but of course with the visa process, since we are planning on doing the K1 that cant happen. We have discussed having a NONLEGAL ceremony on the beach in May( which is what i want, i want to have my friends fly down to be there) and then just going the justice of the peace route when he actually gets here. I have heard others mention that you have to be careful with the nonlegal ceremony route( im not sure why) im thinking that if you showed pictures( that the Embassy, may think it is a legal marriage and deny yoU????? Im just grasping at straws here) Can anyone clarify for me? ( i mean obviously, i wouldnt be stupid enough to present those photos at my interview, so im just wondering.

I'm not sure about the details of a NON-Legal ceremony but i'm guessing folks are saying "be careful" cause it probably has something to do with not wanting the embassy/ INS to think you got married in JA if your supposed to be doing a K-1. Not really sure, but yeah....I know what u mean about wanting to have some sort of ceremony or recognition in JA, even if it's not the "real" thing. LOL

We're doing the JP route here and then going back down later this year to celebrate with my family and his. We decided not to do anything big up here cause there really wouldn't be anybody at the ceremony on his behalf. Besides, I'll be ready for a vacation/ honeymoon by then!

Hello everyone

I am doing the non legal ceromony in Oct. If anybody have any do's or don'ts that they heard please share. To be on the safe side we are going to do it after the interview.

Hi, Jski.....when is your interview? so your going to do the interview, go to the states and then do what? go before a JP or have a legal wedding?

Everyone

I dont have an interview date yet? We planned for the ceromony at the end of Oct. I am hoping I have an interview before then smile.gif To answer your question she will not be leaving soon after the interview. I read somewhere you have a month or two after you get the K1 visa to come up. I am trying to plan the ceromony after the interview, so if we get approved at least we have the visa in our hands and they cant take it away from us...LOL. Like many of you most of my SO family is still in yard so it was best we have something there. When she comes up I will do the city hall thing to make it legal. I am a little nervous though, I want it to be small and quiet but she keeps making it big, we are already up to four bridesmaid. She has already been to David's Bridal picking out dresses too sad.gif

PS
Sunny she dropped of the DS230 friday 7/25

Great, so now you, Islandwoman and I are just playing the waiting game. I think we all dropped off our DS-230 2 weeks apart, so maybe we'll get the same interview date.

Question for you Vets.....or anyone who might know,

Once we file for AOS, how long does it usually take to get the AP back to travel???

I know AOS can take anywhere from a couple months to a year, but doesn't the AP/ EAD usually come back much faster than the AOS? We wanted to travel in mid-November and are sending the AOS/AP/EAD out in August. Will that give us enough time to receive it?

Any info would be helpful! smile.gif
