K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIs it normal that uscis touched fiancee petition after it was approved?
Hey Joe, I gotta agree with ya. It doesn't seem to make any sense at all that there have been so many touches on a petition that has already been approved two weeks earlier but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the way USCIS and the NVC handles any of the petitions. I guess I would take some comfort in the fact that atleast you know they haven't lost it but as long as you have waited and as patient as you have been I'm sure it's hard to find comfort in anything when dealing with USCIS in this incredibly long and ridiculously drawn out process.

QUOTE (Gerjoel @ Oct 2 2009, 12:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi all,

yes!! my fiancee visa is approved and she is just waiting to receive it.(due to the recent typhoon/flooding in the Phil. the US embassy is closed and might have caused more delay) She is also 8 months pregnant and might not be allowed to travel. here are my questions:

1.Once she receives her k1 visa how long is it good for? because she might have to give birth in the Philippines.

2.If the baby is born in the Philippines can the baby be added to her petition. or is this what you would consider k2 (this is a whole new catergory for me that im still researching) your experience or feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

hi there gerjoel..u can call fedex(i just forgot the number that u can call)and tell them that u want to receive a CRBA application form and US passport application, then they will send u all the requirements u need to gather and when ur ready with all the requirements they need just call them back for pick up and they will deliver it to the embassy, its much easier..that's what we did when we apply for our daughter's crba.

I've never smoked weed or a cigarette either, but I'm not going to judge people that have.

And the reason people say it's not important for immigration services is because they don't take into account the amount smoked; most people experiment in their teens, so of course it's silly that an adult that has done that should be denied a visa in exactly the same way that a regular user is.

Well said. good.gif

I can't believe that they make that big a deal out of someone who admitted to smoking pot 4 years ago. They could simply give her a drug test and see that she is negative and be done with it. I guess that this case definately proves, atleast in the Philippines, when asked if you ever experimented with drugs no matter how many years it has been it is best to Lie! How sad. Good luck to you guys.

That's skirting this site's TOS....
Last I check marijuana is still an illegal substance in the US, and since this is a medical exam that is geared to check a beneficiary's 'fitness,' admiting to its use, regardless of when it was, is tantamount to adminting you've done an illegal thing. That can affect your eligibility for the visa. I agree that a one time use (a long time ago) makes no difference today, and I don't think it should be taken into effect...but because pot is illegal in the US (at least for recreational use) I can understand how this question is on the medical exam.

You're right. I knew that this would come up and I apologize. It just seems so ridiculous to me what they punish someone for telling the truth.

Credit card debt is a big problem for many people in the States. Generally it's the interest rates that make it impossible to pay your cards off if you can only afford to make the minimum monthly payment. You may want to consider a considation loan to get those cards payed off and under no circumstances should you apply for another credit card at this point. Concentrate on getting your outstanding debt payed off first before considering getting a card of your own. Every time you apply for any kind of credit it is sent to all three major credit bureaus in the United States. Just applying can have a negative impact on your over all credit score.

make it look like a loan? I think they offered us that but it also means that the credit cards will be close by us when we paid it all off lets say for 60months. We have been paying a lot of past dues right now. I have been stressed lately.. even though its my husbands but still I help him with the bills. All of my salaries every 2 weeks just go to the credit card dues whew helpsmilie.gif It's such a pain in the ####. Our american express and Chase credit cards are close and we are paying it like a loan so once we paid all the debts it will be closed. I am trying to save the bank of america and the citibank though...sigh.

Just wondering if you enroll to their program will it affect your credit score? They told me it wont because once its all paid off it will show as WE close it, not them. I have never had a credit card so mine should be just neutral?

I think you are misunderstanding Melissa. You have to go to your bank and apply for a consolidation loan. You can get a loan to pay off all of your outstanding debt at a much much lower interst rate than what the credit card companies are going to offer you.

Do what you want but I have traveled all over the world and you never know what kind of problems you may encounter..Yes chances are you won't have any but the first time you do I guarantee the next time you fly anywhere you wont hesitate for a second to get there a few hours early and wait for your flight.

PhilippinesCFO papers say 4 hrs. early...
Definately be there 4 hours early. In the States the airlines always recommend that you arrive atleast 2 hours prior to departure but if you have any problems at all that is cutting it close. Better to be early. If there are no problems which there probably won't be you can walk around and shop at the stores inside the airport or just relax and wait for your flight. That sure beats running in to any kind of problem and being stressed out hoping you won't miss your flight and trust me if you are late they are not going to hold that plane for you. Good luck and have a safe trip. Mike

Now this brings me to another question.... if I have to extend there in the phils.. I know I need to go to an immigration office to pay the fee. My question is ....are there immigration offices in the airports there? Or do I have to find one in the major city there? Sorry my fiance doesnt know this answer either... just need some guidance on how to extend my stay there to make sure she has her Visa in hand before we leave. THanks again everyone!

Yes..There is an immigration office in the airport in Manila. I forgot to extend my stay beforehand so I just paid at the airports immigration office before I left.

Make sre you either gate check a stroller or brin a baby carrier/sling fo easier movement through the airport.

I can currently send her text messages fine but for a real phone call she sometimes has to go outside for a better and more clear signal...

Has anyone tried using the PLDT landline sim card with their GMS mobile phone yet and can they tell me if it really works as advertised or if this is just another gimic to sell more phone accesories?

http://max.limpag.co...-sim-gsm-smart/

She has no landline currently and this 'seemed' like it might allow us a more clear connection. It would cost @P500 or so to try it out and we did not want to waste the money if this was garbage.

I have tried to get her to just install the Yahoo messenger 9.0 so we can use the phone-over-internet thing but... The laptop she uses is owned by her employer and she does not get to use it whenever she pleases, also her boss may not like her installing extra software on their laptop... I TRIED to go this route to save money...

Any other ideas or suggestions would be really appreciated here as w

I just want to be able to reliably call her at her workplace/home and be able to have a fairly clear and reliable connection without having to depend on her using her employers laptop.

Thanks for any and all help here VJ'ers!!!

She cant use the pldt landline sim to her gsm phone , there are other phone companies here that offer wireless land line, pldt and bayantel , she can bring it with her to work , though it is going to be bulky ; as for her cell phone , maybe problem with her network ; she can try and subscribe to globe , clear signal , that is what I use , and globe has tipid idd calls , for 100 pesos, you get 40 minutes of airtime . it is cheaper, so he can call you .

hope this one helps.

good luck to you both.

I agree. That is what my fiance has too, Globe and those IDD cards are great. It's a lot cheaper and the line is clear..most of the time.

There is always the possibility for three years and dump. After three years and she gets her USC, she has the same rights as any other US citizen to bring relatives into the US without waiting for a visa number to become available. Blood is always thicker than water, so that is something to think about. If she already has relatives in the county, that would be a way to help make sure you don't end up supporting all her relatives on your own. Chances are she will be willing to work to provide help back home. Love is never easy, and your plans are not always her plans. Life has it's surpises, and marriage, especially marriage to a foreigner, is no exception.

All that said, good luck. Fortune never favors the timid, or the unprepared. devil.gif

Thanks for the honest advice here Bill.

I appreciate ALL of you VJ'ers helping me out and being honest with me.

I believe I understand about the 3 years and USC thing. I have been reading a LOT... She currently has no family or relatives here that I am aware of. I am fairly certain she would have mentioned that by now if she did. She does come from a poor family but I very much believe that she is an honest person.

She seems to have no desperate 'need' or desire to get out of the PI to support herself or her family right now. I did a google earth for a really good satellite view of where she works, I have also seen a bunch of pictures of her at work... She is NOT suffering a bit there. (unless you would consider it suffering to not have a balcony overlooking the golfcourse in Mandaluyong! She lives/works on the opposite side of the condominium for that! whistling.gif ) She makes a good wage (considering she lives and works in the PI) and her current employer provides her with all of her necessities such as room and boarding, food, etc. She is able to use most all of the money she does make to help her family and she does... From what she tells me, she is saving most all of her money to help them buy a better house there and also helping her sister with tuition. This lady does seem to have some great values going for her! good.gif

Part of the reason I have so much faith in this woman and belief in her sincerity is because of her lack of 'need' to get out so that she can help them. I fully understand how desperate people can and WILL do desperate things to get what they 'need' and this lady is not desperate in my opinion... She could very easily stay right where she is at and be able to provide for both herself and her family. good.gif

I would not easily ask any wife of mine to work outside of our home unless it was her choice. I do well enough to support a wife and family myself and I would rather just cut back and 'manage' while the wife got to do as she pleased... It would not be a problem to give her a small allowance to help her with her family obligations either... I would however, have a major problem if all of the sudden an entire extended family wanted to 'move in'... wacko.gif That would be a deal breaker for me...

Aside of that, A well bred and properly trained Doberman would simply not allow strangers in the house. We used to have to lock them up in the back room when the X wifes family would visit... I paid 'extra' for that breeding there! innocent.gif

Hello!!!

Questions... have you met her? If not, my biggest suggestion will be to come as a "friend" and see how you really feel about her. First off, and I'm not saying she's liar blah blah, and I DON'T want to offend you or her... but there are many ways to skin a cat... she could've given you somebody else's address for a start. She could assume any kind of role, job included, and just tell you these great things about her so you won't see any red flags. Meeting her in person would be a great way to determine if what she says is true. You will be able to assess their family's financial position and if you can really support them. I tell you now, you may need to send US100-US200 monthly to her family once she gets there and you are both married. I've read somewhere here that some would send even upto USD500 a month. Take that into consideration before deciding to pursue a long term relationship.

Second, about the visitor's visa. Almost every Filipinos dream is to set foot in America. Even my parents wanted to get a tourist visa to see where I'm going to live with my husband. I think it both stems from their eagerness to see me married and in good hands or they just want to see US... the latter does not necessarily mean anything bad so long as the parents are willing to spend money on the trip and not depend the entire amount on you.

Third, about the money issues, I would sincerely suggest that you be open and honest to her about it. If you trust her, then give her a general idea about your income and your expenses and how much you put into savings monthly. Then tell her that if you both decide that you love each other and want to get married, your income would probably be such and such, your expense will slightly go up, and on top of that you will have to pay a lot for the immigration papers. Make sure she is clear about this and she does not expect you to feed her entire clan. Likewise, tell her that you can only help her family up to XXX amount until such time that she can work... then you also have to talk about her salary and how the two of you will dispose it for your expenses in US, sending money home, etc.

Finally, if she is paying for schooling of siblings or nephews and nieces, then expect that if she moves to the US that she will have to continue to do this and the family would most likely have more reason to ask for money from you. (ie graduation, outings, school projects). Expect also to shoulder part of the expense of buying the house.

Well, relationships are hard... if she loves you and if she is a mature woman capable of handling adult conversations about money and the future... then you are lucky, you found a good gem.

I like the way you think Izzy..Well put.

Yep! For 2 reasons. First one being, I didn't want any possible harm to come to her over a peice of jewlry. (she doesn't live in sophisticated Makati), and the 2nd reason being its just a symbol and regardless of its value the symbol is the same. When I asked her what she wanted for a ring? What could possibly have changed in the two weeks since anyone's posted their interview review? rolleyes.gif When my husband was getting ready for his interview, the last 'review' posted here for that consulate was about 2 years old. Be glad that you have quite recent info to prepare with.

And that has what to do with the consulate in the RP? rolleyes.gif

Hi Sheryl. My fiance Karen had her interview on 6/16/09. I will tell her to fill in the review of her interview experience. Take care and God bless. Mike

But if you want to be on the good side of the pre-screener and not take too much of his/her time... I "strongly suggest" you paste them in a bond paper and fill them in a 10-page plastic filler. It has that flexi-plastic cover so it can be bended a tad bit when it goes through their small slot. Good luck!

Good advice but other than that it really makes no difference. There just interested in the pictures for proof of the relationship. They don't care how you present them. Good luck to you. Mike

PhilippinesRound Trip $748.00 PAL Airlines
Yeah, I'd fly Philippine Airlines over any other carrier by far if I had my choice. They are truly exceptional. Singapore Airlines is also excellent. They treat you like royalty no matter where you are seated..first class, business class, coach but you pay a premium. Thanks for the info sjr09. Mike
