PhilippinesCalling/Messaging in LA POE

Oh okay, can she make texts with that too, or only voice calls?

Yes she can send text messages too.  I don't know how much a text message would cost though (its deductible to her prepaid load).

PhilippinesCalling/Messaging in LA POE

How are charges handled for that?

I once asked this at Globe.  If I will use Globe's OFW sim card, I need at least 80 pesos worth of prepaid load to make a call at LAX (ex: I will call a T-Mobile number).  So she can load as much as she wants.  Globe has 100, 300, 500 pesos prepaid card denominations available.

She can use a Philippine sim card and have its international roaming activated before she leaves.  She can call you at LAX using that.

PhilippinesHow to ship wife's things to the US?

Hi VJ...

My wife is moving here to the US in February. We are wondering what the best (cheapest) way to ship her things would be? She is bringing 2 suitcases but wants to ship a few boxes also. Thanks!!

You can try LBC, 2GO, FedEx or DHL.  They have rate calculators in their websites.

It depends.  You'll just have to be more patient and wait until there's an available date.  Slots open when someone cancels their appointment.

Philippinesgetting married on dec 24
For the i130 filing, you can submit the certified true copy of your marriage certificate. You can get this at the Local Civil Registry.

For the NVC stage and to renew your passport into your married name at DFA, you will need the original NSO marriage certificate.

PhilippinesMedical 3 months before interview

If her appointment is on April 10, would that be sufficient time or would she have to get another medical exam?

If her interview is on April 10, would that be sufficient time to get the visa or would she have to get another medical exam?

Yes that's enough time coz you said she did the medical DEC 2013, so its valid until JUNE 2014.

PhilippinesMedical 3 months before interview

Is the expiration date of her medical exam found on the top right corner of the vaccinatino record that was given to her? it states that the expiration date is 08/31/14. Thank you for all the help!

The medical results must not be more than 6 months old at POE (given that the beneficiary didn't undergo sputum/TB treatment).

Don't see why, ti's none of their business.  Not a controlled substance.  We brought back about 25 boxes, no problemo.

Nope.  It wasn't for her, we brought them back for another VJ member.  They're OTC in the PI.

Yes its OTC, I use that brand too.  I'm just worried that PI or US immigration will ask for a prescription.

PhilippinesAcceptable food to bring

We brought back a metric ####-ton of magic sarap (it has meat juice, but doubt customs knows that), and went thru both Korean and US customs with no issue.  Also brought back a massive amount of Trust pills, no problem.

The ONLY issue we had was that we had to open our suitcases and show Korean customs our Bioflu tablets.  #######?!?!

Did your wife have to get her OB's prescription for that?

PhilippinesWhat Happened to my womans Birth certificate after POE SEattle?

What I mean is, she should have brought multiple copies if her NSO BC (not xerox copy).

We can request as many as we want at NSO, each "copy" will be printed in NSO security paper, so each "copy" is considered original.

PhilippinesPhysical Examination: How Long Before Interview?

I understand that the St. Lukes Medical Exam is a two-day process.  When is the latest I can schedle the Medical Exam before the interview?

The reason why I'm asking is because I'll be flying my fiancee to Manila for the exam.  It would be great if she could do both the exam and the inteviews in one trip instead of two

Like, fly in, Day 1 & Day 2 the Physical Exam, then Day 3 the visa interview... then fly out.... something like that.

Thank you in advance!

A week prior to the interview date is fine.

Anything less is cutting it too close.  You may be interviewed but not approved if USEM does not have your medical files with them.

Hi thank you for the prompt response! One more thing, what are the usual docus that I need to prepare for the AOS package? We haven't paid for the AOS processing fee so needless to say we didn't receive any AOS checklist. Also, we didn't submit DS 261. Would there be a problem during my interview regarding that?

Nope.  OP is under the F2A category (Child below 21yo of LPR).

PhilippinesMy CFO Experience and Great Counselor on Our Batch (Sept. 4, 2013)

Once you have the CFO sticker in your passport no one needs to see the certificate, the sticker tells them you attended CFO.  And the only ones that care about CFO are the customs people at NAIA, no one in the USA gives a hoot about CFO.

I was told that in order for me to get out of the country as a woman married to a non-Filipino, I needed a CFO certificate. (Sticker is for immigrant visa-related travel)

The 3 times I left the Philippines since I got married... No one ever asked me for it.

Also, I'm applying for my immigrant visa here in a Japan consulate and I've already asked re: CFO from Philippine embassy here... It's not a requirement for my immigration.

The lack of consistency in this trafficking prevention scheme astounds me.

PhilippinesMy CFO Experience and Great Counselor on Our Batch (Sept. 4, 2013)
Did the CFO (for travel outside the Philippines) and yes, Ms Thea was nice. Still, I think it's a terrible waste of money.

Why?

Well, did anyone who got a CFO certificate get asked for it before they left the country? None! The last time someone "official" even looked at my certificate was when it was given to me after the CFO seminar thingy.

I am all for the idea of preventing human trafficking. But, the execution is just plain wretched.

PhilippinesPhilippine Fiance In Japan
When she goes to the Philippines, will she be going back to Japan? I currently live in Japan with my husband and visited Manila a few months ago

I took the CFO seminar just in case. But nobody checked at immigration. Prolly because i still had my maiden name on my passport (not my new foreign last name).

As for CFO ringing alarm bells at your girl's divorce decrees, I guess it all depends on the circumstances of the divorces and on details of how you met and how you had the relationship

PhilippinesVISA issued finally after 2 weeks! Now, the wedding gown question ...

drool?   ... really?? huh.png

The wedding is but the stepping stone to what is really important.... the marriage.

A wedding may be just a day, but it's a day everyone dreams of sharing with someone they love dearly.

If a woman's the "get married in PJs" kind, then let her get married in PJs.

If a woman (like me & like OP) is the kind who wants to wear a wedding gown, then we ought to wear a wedding gown :)

Just because a wedding is stuff one's dreams are made of doesn't mean the marriage can't be the same way :)

PhilippinesMedical coming up, and one of the boys has chicken pox

...so that means there is a high chance that my fiancee and/or the other boy could get it. Would this affect the medical appointment (planning to go to St Luke on the 14th)?

Isolate the boy who has chicken pox, for the mean time, so he won't spread it to your other family members.  Bring him to a pediatrician and wait until he is completely healed before you bring him to SLEC.

PhilippinesTourist Visa!

Attending a wedding is under the B1/B2 "tourist" visa category.  They will be approved based on their own merits, as mentioned above, their strong ties to the Philippines.  Working for the government doesn't necessarily mean automatic approval, unless that parent holds a diplomatic passport.

PhilippinesSome questions before sending papers to Phils...

Hello all! I'm trying to prepare my papers to send to my fiance in the Philippines, and I've just got a few questions.

First, my fiance and I are both 25. I've read that we should have the parental advice form just in case they ask for it at the CFO seminar. My question is do I (the USC) need to send one in too...or is it just for the the Philippine citizen?  No, only your fiancee is required to get parental advice.

Second, it seems like CFO wants to see the USC's birth certificate. Are they wanting like a certified copy? I was born in the Philippines, so I can't really get a certified copy just like that. Is it for proving citizenship? Can I just show my passport bio page? If not...hopefully just a regular copy from my parents will do.  CFO is quite notorious for asking a lot of documents so I would advice that your fiancee bring your original NSO birth certificate.  She can get one from NSO.  Send her a photocopy of your US passport bio page.

Thanks in advance for any help! smile.png

PhilippinesNBI clearance

i know that, i had the yellow one when i applied for my current job. last october i got the one with 'immigration requirement' as a purpose but then i read in the US embassy website that they want the one with travel abroad purposes. i called them asking about it but the CSR told me they dont know, so i tried to email them. what im saying is that the US embassy emailed me back that i should get a new NBI clearance with travel abroad purposes. i really dont know if thats ok, im just basing it on what they told me.
oh well, you can always give it a try. :D

That's fine.

PhilippinesNBI clearance

this is the exact email i got from US embassy
Fiancé (e) visa applicants aged 16 years and older must have a valid Record Clearance for Travel Abroad Purposes from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

FYI, there are 2 kinds of NBI Clearances:

1. YELLOW - for local employment

2. GREEN - for travel abroad

For immigration purposes, we should get the GREEN one. Regardless of what "purpose" you put on it, as long as you have the green NBI, you'll be fine.

PhilippinesNBI clearance

Hi everyone need help from Filipino peeps who had undergone their interview.

Has anyone experienced that the NBI clearance requested purpose was Immigration Requirement instead of Travel Abroad but still in green paper? Im just wondering if they accepted it.
nervous because my interview will be on Monday, I want to make sure things run smoothly. I called USEM about this and a customer service rep told me that it's all right as long as its in green paper.

That will do just fine. Good luck on the interview.
