I think now is a perfectly reasonable time to get them involved. Contact all three. You never know which one will have the time to work on it for you.

Yep. He needs the long form copy. If he orders it from the website they list, http://www.gro.gov.u...t/certificates/, that is the only copy they offer so he can't go wrong.

All the instructions do say US size for the medical. However---my fiance (husband) took some of each size and showed the receptionist at the medical asking which size do you want. She said, "I'll take the smaller one (UK) because the big ones don't fit on this form they give us and we have to cut them down with scissors." Others have also turned in small ones. They don't really care at the medical so whatever you have.

Haha my husband did the same and they chose the US size!

Gould's website says they do do them- 5 pounds for 2. Not sure if they'll have someone there to do them at 7:30am though. might be worth giving them a call to check.

United KingdomQuestion for United Kingdom folks
There are many people who think that London uses the date for travel that you give them to determine your interview date. It's not always true (someone here had her interview scheduled on the day she put down as her wedding!) and I think so many people assume this now that everyone puts an earlier date, but it's something worth considering. Don't book any flights or send off a check to the caterer of course but do give them an estimate. Just keep in mind that if you say you don't plan to travel until, say, December, you will most likely be waiting a long time for an interview

You're not required to give them a date for the medical yet. You can just write "to be determined" or something like that. Lots of people do the medical close to or even on the day of the interview, so you'll be fine.

United KingdomAdvice please
If you are planning to settle in the U.K. (or some other country) you do not need a visa to get married in the U.S. As long as he is eligible for the VWP he can enter on that and marry and then leave.

If you are going to settle in the U.K. though you will be needing a visa.

United KingdomK1 - best way to contact U.S embassy after exiting NVC
Hmm. Not sure. The DS-230 specifically asks you to list all your children and then in another question asks you to list only those who will be traveling with you. I think your best bet would be to just include a cover letter when you return the checklist pointing out that it's just you but if you're really concerned you could call the hotline, get the code and email them just to confirm. I'm really not sure just how serious that is.

So i have my case number, from NVC and then confirmed from DOS. Does that mean i oculd now simply download the forms and complete them. I beleive there is information on there about booking the medical or is that on the website too? Do you have to take the packet 3 letter to the medical or interview?

Yes you can go ahead and download and send in the checklist. The medical info is here: http://www.usembassy...iv/medexam.html
The forms and certificates requested in packet 3 should be brought to the interview.

While you can easily get at the forms and start collating the documents required you do need packet 3 as it has the London case number on the letter does it not.

I assumed that everyone knew that you get your case number by calling NVC and giving the operator your USCIS receipt number...

It's usually not the best idea to "just wait" with London as they have a dirty little habit of getting things lost in the mail, generating packets and never mailing them, etc.

Don't feel weird about calling the DOS number. It's the price of a regular call and they answer questions like that all day long. If your file got to London three weeks ago it's totally possible your packet 3 has already been generated and you can get moving now.

No live trace on an ACPO police certificate means they have found no records on the person. He's clean. He's good to go for the interview.

But is there a difference between "no live trace" and "no trace" which is what's usually expected?

United KingdomDont have W2's to go with tax return? 1099's instead?
Does the amount listed on the 1099 equal the total income claimed on the return? If so, then you're fine, you're not missing anything. If not you really should order copies of the transcripts. It's just a lot easier to figure out and takes just a few days.

QUOTE (n1dom @ Sep 30 2009, 01:29 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
When it came to handing over the documents I wasn't asked for a W2, nor did I offer it, just gave the tax return which satisfied the requirements.

While they may not have asked you for the W-2s, they can and the OP should be prepared. Anyone could make up a return that says they earn $1 million per year- it's the W-2s and 1099s that back the claim up. The returns themselves mean nothing.

United Kingdomcalling the embassy for info
Not quite. If you put a travel or wedding date a little ways off in the future they'll hold onto it and won't assign you a date for some time. They would have entered the information into the system in that case though.

Not suggesting that's what happened in your situation- just an example.
imaishaFemaleUnited Kingdom2009-09-22 14:22:00
United Kingdomcalling the embassy for info
It is a long time, but others have waited even longer- I think I saw 6 weeks over the summer. If you're worried you can just send in another copy.

You can also call DOS and ask them to "see if there are any notes on the case". When I was pursuing the K-3 as well the embassy received our response, entered all our dates and stuff in the system but forgot to tick a little box and so whenever I called DOS they thought my checklist hadn't been received when it had been. I haven't heard of that particular problem happening with anyone else but it's worth a shot to just check. Good luck!

Once the embassy has opened up your packet and entered all the information into their computer, DOS will be able to see it. If they say the last activity was the embassy sending out packet 3 then the embassy has not reviewed your checklist yet.

It doesn't cost nearly that much. For an IR1 visa there are no additional fees for the visa itself. You only need to pay for the delivery, which is £14.20. If you want to pay more for a specific delivery time, you can. Those prices are on their website here: http://www.thedx.co....portdeliveries/

And they definitely do accept all sorts of cards.
